  1. I shop for many things at Amazon, and reading this Forum suggests many others do as well. I want to describe two very helpful tools for shopping at Amazon. The first tool is CamelCamelCamel, which I first mentioned in a post that included a comment about how some prices for some Amazon items can fluctuate wildly. CamelCamelCamel allows you to due two things. First, you can paste an Amazon product URL (such as https://www.amazon.com/Camco-44472-Wheel-Chock-Rope/dp/B001V8PRBM, or the product code, here B001V8PRBM) into its search window, and the web site will show you the price over time. A slider on the right allows you to adjust the time window. Using CamelCamelCamel becomes much easier if you install a price tracking tool as described here. I have not used their Extensions. Instead I have put their Bookmarket into the Favorites Bookmark bar on my browser, and that works well. Now, if I am looking at an Amazon item I simply click on the CamelCamelCamel icon and it opens the price analysis graph in a new browser tab. The second thing you can do in CamelCamelCamel, if you set up an account, is to set up an alert, where the system will notify you when the price drops to a desired level. I have saved some money using these price alerts. The new web site I found is FakeSpot (https://www.fakespot.com) that helps you determine whether reviews are accurate or not. As you probably know, many people put up fake reviews to boost a product ranking, often using companies that will put up X number of 5-star reviews at a price of X dollars per review. These companies use reviewer accounts that give only 5-star reviews, using the same language, and these reviews all appear within days of each other. See Wirecutter discussion. The FakeSpot algorithm analyzes all of the reviews, what other products these reviewers review, and what words they use. The linguistic analysis is particularly useful because fake reviewers use tend to use the same language styles for all of their reviewer accounts and for all of the products they review. In addition to Amazon, the software works on user reviews for Trip Advisor, Yelp and the App Store. I tried some TripAdvisor reviews for places that I thought were good and deserving of their high quality reviews, and FakeSpot gave the reviews an A grade. I bought an iPhone App several years ago and discovered that the app was worthless. I wrote a detailed but scathing review, but when the company updates the app every month old reviews get lost. I ran the current App Store reviews through FakeSpot just now, and it says all of the current reviews are fake! I tried some recent Amazon purchases and found that the reviews for one recent electronic item were mostly fake. For other items the reviews appear genuine. One example. Two years ago I bought a Camco 44472 Wheel Chock, which had great reviews. FakeSpot gave the reviews a C grade, and that 25% of the reviews are of low quality. There is a ReAnalyze Button, and I clicked it. It took a few minutes, but the revised report gives the reviews an A grade. It says that Amazon as deleted a large number of low quality reviews. Interesting. If you scroll down the FakeSpot page they have Browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox and Safari. I have been using the Safari Extension, which works great, but takes up a lot of real estate on my screen. My solution is to turn it on and off as needed by Safari > Preferences > Extensions. They also have an iOS app which works quite nicely. The reviews on the App Store are highly critical, mostly because there are no instructions. I found a web site that gave good info on how to use, and one of the 5-Star App Store reviews nicely explains how to use: On iPhone Amazon app go to a product, click on Share > More > Analyze with FakeSpot. Finally, the App Store reviews for FakeSpot’s iOS app gets only a B grade!

  2. Hello folks! I was wondering if anyone has installed the Trimetric 2030 RV battery monitoring system in their Oliver and if so how difficult was the install? I picked one up in Quartzsite for a pretty good price along with the Zamp suitcase panels. I'm very impressed with the performance of the panels and now want to be able to monitor my batteries. http://www.bogartengineering.com/products/trimetrics.html

  3. A very long time ago, we installed an RCA flat antenna with a booster in the back corner cabinet of our Oliver, used it a few times, and forgot about it, except when cleaning cabinets... We have an original tiny Jensen tv, with the speakers attached, plus audio out to several speakers, a few of which do not work. Obviously, we're not big tv watchers. But, I'd like to be able to pick up local weather and news once in awhile, beyond the radio. Or watch a rerun on a rainy day... For those of you without roof mounted antennas, what do you use? Our RCA, if not connected to 110 on the amplifier, gets only one channel now, with the trailer in the sideyard. Probably shot/ corroded. Do any of you use a tv other than a jensen? Thinking a smallish 24 smart TV that could stream from my phone or tablet would be nice, once in awhile. We could use our Netflix subscription on the road...on a bigger screen than the tablet. Ideas? Thanks Sherry

  4. My 2008 Tacoma Prerunner with a 4.0L V6 faithfully towed my Elite 18.5 over 112,000 miles. Because it currently has 236,000 miles on it and I go to some far away locations, I've recently purchased a new TV as an insurance policy. I've chosen a 2018 F150 FX4 with the 5.0L V8 and a six and a half food bed for more cargo space. The Tacoma is a proven performer but I wasn't sure about the newer, smaller 3.5L engine going the distance towing as much as I do. The extra cargo space will also come in handy. So far, the F150 gets the same or better mpg, not towing, as the Taco. Haven't tested it yet on a long trip pulling the trailer, but am hopeful on its performance under load.

  5. We are taking delivery of our new Ollie 18.5 on March 6. There are several members on the forum who also have the Legacy Elite and have been very helpful throughout our decision-making process. The vehicle we chose for the job is a Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 which should handle the Ollie with ease. I know @Skalywag also uses the same vehicle to pull his 18.5 but you should get a wide range of options just by asking. Good luck.

  6. I've installed 2 in previous 5th wheels, and 1 in a friend's. I like them. I've purchased the meter and controller for my Elite II but haven't installed yet. The only difference is that I got the larger meter rather than the RV slender unit since it will be replacing the existing ZAMP. It fits into a double gang electrical box, and still it's not wide enough to cover the hole that will be left from the removal of the ZAMP. My solution will be to get a blank 3 or 4 gang blank to cover the hole, and then cut out a hole for the Bogart. I think the Bogart controller can be mounted on the back side of the meter box, or right in the area. The existing wires will need to have the connectors cut of, or use some short 10 gauge jumper/adapters to convert from the eye connector to the bare stripped ends needed for the Bogart. The reason for that is that I can reversed the install should I want to revert to the ZAMP if I want to sell the trailer or something. The only issue I have not worked out is where to mount the shunt. And after you get the shunt mounted and installed between battery ground and chassis ground, the 3 (as I remember) small ground wires that go the the negative battery terminals will need to be rerouted to the chassis ground side of the shunt for the meter to work proper. And of course the 4 or 5 wires going to the meter connectors, but that won't be an issue. Plan to tackle it soon. Still pretty cold here. I'll post pictures when I get to it. Brad
