  2. We purchased our 2019 Elite II with four options, convection microwave, extra LP outlets, powered door lock, and a bike rack which we don't use. All being said, our trailer is just perfect for us and all those extra features are just not needed. I will say we don't Boondock so for those of you that do some additional options may be needed. Our 2019 Elite II was less then $55000 dollars, not that we were going for price, but we were going for what we needed for fun camping for us. I will say that when we talk with other Oliver owners, most don't use those extra options, but felt they needed to purchase them just because it was an Oliver and didn't wanted to be left out because it was a Oliver. Folks let me tell you, we are still the hit of the camping ground when we pull in and no one has ever said, you got the cheap model. In fact most that look at our trailer are totally surprised at all the features and niceness of the trailer. I look at a $68000 Oliver as $13000 more then I paid and would never get the value out of the trailer for our camping style. trainman

  3. WalMart has them for $12.77 (single) and $34.61 (double). That shrink wrap that holds the two cans together sure must be some expensive stuff! Bill

  4. If you're willing to detour. Here are the things I've enjoyed on I10/20: Palm Springs - just the lifestyles of the rich and famous and some cool 70s architecture too Joshua Tree NP - interesting NP Quartzsite - great boondocking Picacho Peak (need to be in good shape for this one - definitely read up on the hike) Saguaro NP - different country than the PNW for sure Pima Air + Space Museum Mt Lemmon - drivable Kartchner Caverns - COVID might rule this out Coronado Overlook - great chance to see the border Bisbee, AZ - Copper Mine/Art town Tombstone, AZ - the legend of the movie meets a version of Disneyland where everyone has guns and might be drunk too Hatch. NM - home of the Hatch Chile Truth or Consequences, NM (cool name) - next to Elephant Butte Lake park -- also a cool name interesting view Texas: headwinds and barbecue. Dublin, TX - Old Doc's Soda Shop - used to be where I stopped for Dr Pepper made with cane sugar, they don't make that anymore but still interesting. Ozarks

  5. Due to the extra height of the GoLight behind our A/C, 10 feet is an absolute must for us. During our return trip from the Boler Rally in Winnipeg in 2018, we toured North and South Dakota. This photo is looking back North after going thru Hood Tunnel as we were traveling South on SD 87 in the Black Hills toward Custer, SD. It gave me pause but it is actually bigger than it looks. Hood Tunnel: 10 feet, 6 inches wide; 11 feet, 3 inches high.

  6. The extra port only become really handy if you, like ourselves, transport the generator on the tongue 100% of the time. We travel far and wide and boondock 95% of the time so we do use it sometimes. I like to have every possible contingency covered so a generator is just one more tool that I carry.

  8. Last night I was charging the battery(s) on my laptop in my office when they decided to "do the lithium thing". If it wasn't for the fact that this was in my house and in my office the fireworks were fairly interesting - individual cells exploding and shooting in all directions with flames coming from their afterburners. I'm extremely happy to report that the "Tundra fire extinguisher" performed exactly as advertised and total damage is certainly much less than what it could have been. I'll shortly be ordering a couple more of these but be sure to see the first post in this thread above. Bill

  9. I did not realize there were installation instructions following the parts info so, no, I did not read the whole thread. I did go back to see what I must have missed (a lot) and going forward I'll know to keep scrolling down and not assume I reached the end. I have the parts on order and hope to make the modification after we return from our next outing. I'll try the close fit 33/64" drill bit first and hope I get lucky. If not, I'll drill one or both sets of the holes out to 17/32" for a free fit unless you recommend something different. Great write-up for the install, especially if one reads it. Thanks Bob

  10. Last week we traveled to Central Oregon (hope the governor doesn't read this!) for a tour of an Oliver II Twin. We made a point of going in the middle of the week, knowing campgrounds might be full on the weekend. The weather was beautiful . . . . . we stayed at Cold Springs CG (USFS) where there were sites available. Met the Oliver in Redmond Thursday morning, then journeyed to Bend for a mandatory stop at the Sparrow Bakery; if you've never had an Ocean Roll do stop here when in the vicinity. We decided to spend a night on the trip home along the Metolius River where we could enjoy nature and do a bit of biking. Alas, out of a dozen campgrounds along the river, everyone was full! Frustrated, we continued west. We didn't investigate any of the FS campgrounds along McKenzie River Hwy 126, where there might have been vacant sites. Instead we called one of our favorite places, Belnap Hot Springs Resort, and they had an open spot for that night only. This is an older hot springs resort with a lot of options - lodge rooms, rustic cabins, deluxe cabins, RV sites (many along the river), hike/bike trails, a secret garden, disc golf, and two hot springs pools - one of which is reserved for campers only; the other open to the public. Definitely worth a stay - a serene forest setting along the beautiful McKenzie River. The grounds are well maintained and the staff friendly; when we checked in, the receptionist remembered us from previous year's visits! Secret Garden Belnap Resort Site #1 McKenzie River at Belnap Resort Oregon is a beautiful state with its rivers, waterfalls, beaches, forests, deserts, geology and historic attractions. Unfortunately camping is not user friendly right now; I certainly hope the situation improves. My best advice, if you plan a visit to the Pacific Northwest, is to check campground status and availability. If state park campgrounds are on your radar, be aware you must have a reservation (good luck with that!). I heard, though have not verified, that they do not accept walk-ins, even if there happens to be a vacancy. Reservations can be made up to a day before arrival, but not the day of. USFS, BLM, and other public campgrounds are more apt to have vacancies, depending on the location. Most are self-check-in, so reservations might not be necessary, but check on specific campgrounds at Reservation.gov. Dispersed camping is allowed on USFS and BLM lands, unless posted "no camping". Fire season opened today, so campfires are prohibited except in campgrounds with approved fire pits. Private campgrounds/parks are most likely your best bet, unless you are lucky enough to get a reservation at a state park. Check Reserve America for availability.

  11. Okay I'm working on a detailed writeup with pictures for my trailer's documentation package. I'll post this writeup, in it's entirety, on this topic. But be forewarned, I made my project way more involved than what others might deem necessary. That's just how I operate.

  12. For a number of years now I have cautioned about simply purchasing a large portable waste tank due to the size of the tank and the weight of the tank when full. Smaller tanks of this sort can be stored and handled much easier and all of these tanks can be fitted with an indicator that "warns" you of how full they are getting. In addition, I always carry "Double Doodie" (or WalMart's equivalent) bags: https://www.amazon.com/Reliance-Products-2683-03-Double-Doodie/dp/B0024O0W94/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2GENF1YIDNWHC&dchild=1&keywords=double+doodie+toilet+waste+bags&qid=1590930131&sprefix=double+doo%2Caps%2C169&sr=8-2 These bags can be placed and used inside the existing Oliver standard toilet in the event I am concerned about not being able to find a dump station. Or, they can be used outside when I have my shower tent set up for longer boondocking situations. However, back to Landrover's thoughts, it might be interesting to have an RV toilet that is a combination cassette and black tank. Use the black tank when you need longer term storage of waste matter but have the cassette when you know you will have places to empty the contents more frequently. For a time I was very interested in composting toilets. But, the more I learn the more I found out that I would only be swapping one set of issues for another. And, as Sherry has said, the job of emptying the black tank is really no big deal and for my kind of camping the water saving "feature" of the composting toilet is really not sufficient to justify the kind of money charged for those things. 13. One more thought... Some folks prefer to use a lighter weight extension cord between the single Honda EU2000i/EU2200i and the Ollie, and then use an adapter at the shorepower connector on the trailer end, rather than wrestling with the heavier 30A AWG 10/3 standard shorepower cord. Since the single generator only produces 15A continuous (2200 Watts or about 18.3A peak), a standard 25ft 12/3 outdoor rated extension cord (which is rated for 20A) works well. Tom
