We spent 18 summers on the Yellowstone River, north of Yellowstone National Park and rarely used our awnings, and when we did use them it was mostly in the morning before the wind picked up. I’m sure there are other locations in the west, and elsewhere. where awning use is also limited. My suggestion is to also consider where you’ll be using your RV, and how often you’ll use yours awning(s) versus their cost and convenience.

We purchased our Oliver used with the old style manual Fiama awnings on the street and curb side on out trailer. We have never used the street side awning. We find the front door awning to meet all of our needs. It's on my list to remove the street side awning so I have less maintenance for the trailer.

Our 2019 Elite 2 only has the Cube Side Manual Awning, we bought it used, so we didn't have a choice, glad it is a manual awning. However, if we did have a choice, I think we would order only the Cube Side. IMHO, the Cube Side Awning is as large/popular as it is on most RV's, principally because of it location/usage, i.e. Entry Door, Eating Area out doors etc. On the other hand the Road Side Awning doesn't need to satisfy these areas, although they could have limited beneficial on sunny days. Most RV's, Trailer or Motor Homes use Single Window Awnings to block the Sun/Rain. The Single Window Awning design has the benefit of not being as vulnerable to High Winds, I think they look better also! Additionally, the Single Window Awning has the added benefit of blocking the Sun/Rain from entering the Back/Front Windows, if so equipped. Hopefully, one day our Oliver will have Single Window Awning (Dark Blue) on the Street Side and the Back Window. I was researching these again just this week! As I mentioned earlier, we really like the Stylish Look of these as well as their functionality!

Hi Oliver family, we're Mark and Teri. Last Friday we headed south to tour the Oliver factory and see the travel trailers first hand. We had been pondering the thought of purchasing a travel trailer for years now, but never researched it enough to make it happen. Well if the pandemic has taught us anything at all it's that we enjoy being together every single day and we are ready to enjoy retirement by traveling the US. We both have backgrounds in manufacturing but that did not prepare us the remarkable manufacturing process we witnessed at Oliver. It was incredible how much respect was put into their product. Needless to say we were smitten after the tour. Mark had told me we would tour the plant, see the trailers, get much needed information and return home to ponder and research further. Jason was helping us get a quote together, I thought it would be a figure Mark and I would discuss later at home. I excused myself to use the restroom, when I returned Jason was sliding over paperwork for Mark to sign. I look at Mark and he says to me, well you ready to start living our dream. He was signing a sales order. He was getting us an Elite II, standard with a king bed. Although they couldn't scheduled our pick up date for my birthday next year they came awful close. To say we are excited is an understatement. I think I have sent photos to all my family and friends. So here I am scouring over the Oliver forum trying to soak in all the information I can. So many more questions, good thing I have 10moths to find all the answers. Sales order signed 8/12/21, pick up date 6/20/22 at 8:30am. ❤️

I think that is good advice, John. It's probably a very good starting point but we all drive under different conditions and the "FEEL" you're talking about will be different for us all. Safe travels! 🙂

Fastenal has the Monroe/vlier at around $26. $20 if you have a wholesale account, and buy online. We have similar t-handle pins on our 2008. Glad we haven't lost one, at that price.

Sorry for the late response. You asked about what I meant by the term "Feel of the Front Axle." You can think of it as the "Seat of the Pants Feel," that you can actually sense while driving down the road. I suggest that the next time you have your Oliver Hooked up, you experiment with the Hitch Adjustments. First, take a very short Road Test with the Hitch adjusted as normal and pay particular attention to the Feel of the Front Axle, i.e. Tires/Axle! Now, loosening the Adjusting Nuts (1-2 turns) on the Chains and take another short Road Test , and compare the Feel you experience. You will probably feel a Light Sensation (less weight) on the Front Axle and may even notice a slight elevation of the Hood and a lowed stance of the back end of the TV. The difference in the FEEL, is the result of less weight being transferred to the Front Axle of the TV. Now, tighten the Adjusting Nuts 1/2 (one half turn) turn at a time, and Road Tests again while noting the sensation you feel in the Front Axle. Do a couple of Road Tests and I am sure you will get the hang of it.The Ride should progressively feel more FIRM, I'd be surprised if you don't feel the WEIGHT actually being spread across both the Front and Rear Axles of the TV. Congratulations, you have just "Fine Turned" your RV WDH!

I'm thinking of making a reservation. Has anyone booked specific sites yet? Mayb I can get in close. As of today, 8/15/21, there are still a lot of available sites. I'm not sure I'll be a solo camper or not on this trip. But I'm trying to be brave and get out, no matter what. Thanks, Chris

So, I'm guessing you are taking the Cassiar Highway up to Watson Lake, and then on to Whitehorse? It wasn't a great ride in the old days, but it's really pretty, and also pretty desolate. A number of provincial campgrounds along the way, many of them lakeside . Boya Lake is our very favorite, especially if you can arrive midweek and can snag a lakeside campsite. Some of the sites up the ridge also offer pretty views,, but lakeside sites are pretty big,, and easy.. No power, no flush toilets. But, nice clean vault toilets. Usually water, but sometimes not. There's a spring down the road somewhere, where those in need filled jugs. We were ok with what we carried. I'll be following you (jealously). Northern BC and the Yukon are the best parts of our Alaskan trips, with the exception of visiting my cousin in Denali, and the 50 miles of Richardson Hwy approaching Valdez.
