  1. Mike is correct but remember that either the 2000i or the 2200i will only run the AC alone. The Micro-Air soft start only reduces the heavy load at startup. The running amps will still remain the same. My AC unit draws 14 amps running which includes around 2 amps for the fan. So either of the small generators will be nearly maxed out running the AC. When running the AC with a small generator, make sure any/all other 110 volt items are off.

  2. Jeff, Be aware that power output from a generator drops when you are using propane instead of gasoline. There is a very good thread on the Easy Start here. You said that you may want to use the AC at higher elevation, and you should be aware that there is a further drop in generator efficiency as the elevation increases. You should especially read the comments by Matteo Giovanetti, the engineer for the Easy Start company, here, where he discusses both elevation and propane. He said that their experience was that Honda EU2000i on propane, not the slightly more powerful 2200 that you refer to, was able to both start and run A/C units with EasyStart only up to about 3000 foot elevation. I communicated with Matteo another data point, that using a Honda EU2000i generator fitted with a GenConnex propane conversion kit, I was able to both start and run the 13.5k BTU Dometic Penguin II AC here in Salt Lake City at 4250 ft elevation. But be aware of the elevation issue, especially on propane. I think it would be pretty easy for a local RV shop to install a propane quick connect.

  3. This may get me banned, but: Somebody at the rally this year told me that their small dog slept under the dinette. When the dog passed gas it set the CO/LP alarm off. Alarm kept going off until they moved the dog’s bed. Moved the dog’s bed, alarm quit going off. Respectfully submitted, Bill (certainly not Martha)

  4. Good questions. I’m sure some of our technically gifted owners will weigh in... from a technically non-gifted owner here’s how I think about it. If you’re not hooked to shore power many features of your trailer are powered. TV, Furrion, water pump, cell/WiFi booster, lights. Those all run on 12V. The fridge can run off anything, propane, 110V or 12V - you can decide. The water heater can be either 110V or propane (if you have the tank). The microwave is 110V as is anything that plugs into a 110V outlet. So, if you’re on a generator, all your 12V stuff works off batteries. Your AC is on the generator. If you have the hot water tank it could run off the generator or off propane if you choose. Anything you plug into at 110V outlet will run off your generator. Hope this makes sense! Mike

  5. Jeff, here's what I found on the web (emphasis mine): EU2200i The new EU2200i generator provides: a maximum AC output of 120 volts (V)/2200 watts (W)/18.3 Amps (A) and rated output of 120V/1800 W/15 A a run time of 3.2 to 8.1 hours on a single 0.95 gallon tank, depending on the generator load Honda's exclusive Eco Throttle® feature contributes to improved fuel efficiency, allowing the engine to automatically adjust its speed to produce only the power needed for the application in use The introduction of propane into the mix will further reduce the output wattage by about 10-15% so the generator will only be producing a running wattage/amperage of about 1600 W/13.333 A. This is below 4000 feet altitude, higher will only make it worse. I offer these observations not as negatives but hopefully as useful information to help somebody make decisions that won't prove to be costly mistakes.

  6. When I saw the thread title I thought "Good Lord, this truck size insanity has finally jumped the shark." Freightliner explains it better than I can: Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon are mid-sized pickups, as opposed to full-sized pickups like F150, Silverado, etc. I tow with what some consider less capable than a Chevy Colorado and I feel like my tow vehicle is adequate to the point that I don't need to rush out and replace it. Yes even driving in the mountains of Colorado.

  7. I spoke with a representative of the company that makes these tank monitoring systems about the issue of inaccuracies when using the sensors on different size tanks (other than 20 pound) such as our 30 pound tanks. He stated that the information that had been floating around the internet (see my previous post above) was incorrect and had always been incorrect due to a youtube video posted in the past. Apparently, although there had always been a monitor available, when this system was first marketed the company had actually envisioned most folks using their phones to read the tank level data. The app they supplied has always had the ability to be calibrated for other size tanks but the wireless monitor did not. He states that the current monitors have that calibration capability. Sorry for my previous misinformation. I assumed it was accurate, after all I READ IT ON THE INTERNET!!!

  8. It seems like the general consensus here is that compact trucks are borderline capable of towing the Elite II. Most people, including me I guess, will recommend a full size pickup. In my admittedly brief experience here, it seems like people are fine with whatever they're using to tow, but eventually gravitate toward full size pickups sooner or later. Having said that, these threads about tow vehicles remind me of George Carlin's routine about driving, where everyone going slower than you is an idiot and everyone going faster is a maniac. Same's true with tow vehicles - if you want something smaller than what whomever you're asking drives, you're obviously risking your life; and if you want something bigger, you're wasting your money.

  9. The only way any of the 2000 watt (peak output) generators will run the AC is with an easy start because the AC draws more amps to start than the generators can produce. Motors require much more power to get started than they do to continue running. That short term high load lasts for about one second and occurs every time the AC cycles on. The Easy-Start spreads the starting current out over more time, which reduces its peak, and allows the 2000 watt generators to work. But if the microwave is on, the generator won't run both. It's not correct to call the Costco generators "Yamaha generators". They are not. Read the box. It says "powered by Yamaha" It has a Yamaha engine and is made by a company other than Yamaha. Not saying there is anything wrong with them. I have a Yamaha and it is not the same as the Costco Generators. Since the generators are pretty much maxed out running the AC, there isn't anything left to run other 120 volt loads. So, no, they will not run the microwave or the battery charger at full output, while running the AC. They won't even run the AC unless they have an easy start or additional starting condenser. Possibly, the 2200 watt unit would run the AC, but it would not have anything left for any other appliances.

  10. Mike, just received my magnets from Amazon and installed them with Command tape. I have been looking for something just like this to replace the bungee cord that I have been using. This works great and looks much better, thanks!

  11. I don't unhitch when parked in front of my house. I pull the trailer on the boards, and leave the car hitched. I agree, a full tank is important when boondocking!

  12. Have not really had it long enough to evaluate. Three months and all is good. Mopeka's FAQ answer: The sensor battery lasts over 1 year but may last longer or shorter depending on the outside temperature. The battery will generally last longer in warmer environments
