  1. So far the awnings have never failed inside the showroom - floor shine and all! The sensors for retraction would be a few nanoseconds to late in most sudden gusts. As the awning curls up and over the solar panels - the retractor motor strains to understand why it is struggling ''''''' I'll put mine up. RB
  2. One good Bee cough will test most awnings. A few of the poles as stated help out a lot. Overland has posted some pics of a setup that looks about as secure as possible. We have learned - put it up when you will be gone for any amount of time. Murphy is always watching. RB
  3. I do love disk brakes - so easy to R&R. I haven't paid a shop for service in a long time - usually when away- and no choice - ie- a fuel filter and oil change 1/2 way in last trip. I don't plan to even look at my brakes until after this summer - bearings I've done - only a few thousand miles on last repack. I remember as a young lad - my first drum brake rebuild - did one at a time - I needed the unassembled one for reference! No phone camera's back then. (and little $$$) Almost everybody turned the drums - now - all want new drums - or disks...... I was just curious how many miles - given normal wear and tear. Thanks RB
  4. We have something like this - been using since 1990's. Ours is a wooden roll top - Not produced any longer, but easy to pack and stow. Amazon.com : ALPS Mountaineering Dining Table Regular, Silver (8351000) : Camping Tables : Sports & Outdoors Plenty of options out there. RB
  5. I am curious guys - how many miles did you have on the Ollie when you determined a rebuild was in order? RB
  6. JD -I specifically purchased a second spare for Ollie just for this type trip. The TV - well - it will have to get by on one spare! I did see a tire shop or two in BC - AK is just like home. Bugeyedriver is good on the routing - you can go up one way - come back another. Were it me - I leave sooner than later. I never saw anyone carrying a rifle - other than at the range - a public place near Fairbanks - was not the usual Gun Range!!! And Bison - on the route home - were all over the road - as we went east - Glad we were not traveling at night - it would not have been a good time. Happy Trails
  7. We do fine on the 2000 watt - really don't use it much - but it comes in handy. I have had several - very good units. Put them in my van builds. Microwave - I could do with out. My wife says otherwise. If we have used it 10 times in 2 years I would be surprised. Oliver has completely redesigned the systems since our 2018. The Xantrex does double duty today verses ours. It is a cleaner setup, but I prefer the setup of our Ollie. Popcorn - well very rarely. I would rather have the cubby hole. RB
  8. I was amazed to need Bear spray while walking in Valdez - seems bears like civilization, but do not care for regulations. While in Denali - We had a bear incident happen the day before we set out on a long hike. Seems a large one had assaulted (new wave speak) a couple - on same trail we were headed to - and closed it for a week - for the second time. So we went to the dog kennels and had a great time talking and discovering . Previously in the trip - a similar situation near Glacier - only the biker was "terminated" by a bear - on a trail we were planned to hike. However - we managed to get in several hikes n bikes. I didn't carry - only had spray - as Canada is tough on guns, However, Alaska is very gun friendly, Native AK's usually had appropriate firearms while out in nature. I did borrow something from my son - who resides in North Pole - while in AK. Did not do the Kennecott tour - should have - will next time. We tried to never take the same roads twice - where possible. Most roads were decent - well that was - now - 5 years ago this summer - but the sections of mud and gravel - under construction - were brutal. Large caravans formed, oncoming traffic threw up glass cracking stones, and your own contrails were similar. If we go back - Oliver will be well covered in its front sections. Frost and freeze heaves will sneak up on you - beware - if there is a cone in the road - slow..... Being self - contained will make the trip much easier - and less selective on the where to stay issue. Happy Trails.
  9. Having spent about a month and a week running around BC, Yukon, and AK in 2016 - being in a hurry is not advisable. There is just to much cool stuff to do, see, experience, and catching the Great One - without cloud cover may take time. We didn't have Ollie then. I will tell you - put something on the front surfaces for protection - regardless of the stone stomper - you have been warned. Sept is a little late - but you know what your doing. In Canada - in the outback - BC/Yukon - consider 1/2 tank of fuel as empty - you never know if the next planned fuel source is open. Crowds were not an issue - Denali will need a rez - well in Sept ?? not sure. Great hiking - Bears are and were an issue - we had to change plans a few times........ carry bear spray and a 44 mag. Valdez was a cool place, Homer, a little less - fishing was good for my wife. We did a week on the Talkeetna river - WW trip through the gorge - flew in on a puddle jumper - landed on a sandbar- was really out there. We used 'The Milepost" guide - lot of info - you will just have to pare down what you want to see. When we do this again - n the Ollie - we will spend much more time in BC and Yukon. RB
  10. I have a little of everything: the latest: Metamodern Sounds in Country Music - and And and
  11. I'm thinking a few lifelike rubber snakes - If they get over the fright - after lifting the hatch, well, have at it I say. Course a lock of some sort may also work☠️😳
  12. Thanks - I did everything but squeeze the orange tabs. Wasn't my first rodeo - but apparently it was my first goat rodeo....Doooh All good now. Thanks again.... RB
  13. Ok, I give up - can someone tell me how to remove the Kitchen drawers. I haven't figured it out yet- and don't want to destroy anything.... RB
  14. I added this to my RV search tab last year - but never used it. I am horrible at pre planning. Good to know it works - at least for some situations.
  15. We ended up at a commercial place - first one just above the hot temps. I can't remember the name. Was just ok. We had come across SD from the east - it was about 100 in the flat expanse of the big straight multi lane I State. Any port in a storm that day! Look at Campendium - lot a possibilities. Happy Trails.
  16. Yes - De wintered today! It is always a mystery - what will go wrong ??????? All systems are a GO! Blastoff - T minus and 6 days, plus a few hours. RB
  17. Ahh, a fellow JD TV aficionado. I use mine to also move it around the home place. What is all that white stuff>?? RB
  18. Anita! She has been selling - well - helping customers select the best options for their future Oliver based upon for their situation and desires for a long while. . We were satisfied with our experience and would recommend Anita for sure. However, as was stated - I am sure any of the sales - force - would do a great job. If your aim is to make the best choices - a tour of the plant and thorough research is in order. RB
  19. Thanks JD, eager to hear the long term evaluation. RB
  20. Thank you SeaDawg and KatanaPilot - Oliver is in your debt. I believe you just did 80% of the engineering - get the t stat straightened out - boom, AC and sleep!! Love OLIVER owner's RB
  21. 80/20 is great stuff. If it wasn't so expensive I would have way too many projects built with the stuff - it is so versatile. Nice that you found a solution that works for your needs.
  22. Here - plugged in to AC. Soon to spend its off season days here:
  23. You will be fine. Go enjoy your new addition to the family. Your modern Toyota is well situated to tow an EI. RB
  24. 😩 As Charles B often said - "Good Grief" I remember a former "new" Oliver owner who shared on this forum, his many problems of initial Oliver ownership. He was not a happy customer, and after much back and forth, on this forum, and - as he stated - with Oliver - eventually - parted ways with his new Oliver. Despite a somewhat irregular - ownership experience -and with many numerous posts - I never observed any action -by anyone, Oliver included, that attempted to alter, influence, or diminish the negative posts. As forum readers we see the participants public comments and stated issues, but do not hear the other side of the story. Oliver's official response is kept between the parties. Thankfully we are spared the "Yelp review - he said - no - she said" - back and forth. I am inclined to believe - at times - moderators, and other folks of influence, have given Oliver a heads up - or actually asked for clarification. Us Oliver owners like to believe the mothership is connected to this forum for both good and bad, happy and sad. I believe they are. It is just good business! If I am in error here - well Oliver is missing out. If a tree falls in the woods and there is no one there to observe the fall - did it happen? Quantum mechanics questions the validity. If I was a disappointed, angry, or unsatisfied customer and I wished to share my experience, it would make sense to do so in a site that had participants who not only had an interest in the situation, but also had influence in the community. Rational people usually make rational decisions that lead to rational response. History shows Oliver to be more rational in customer concerns than most SOB's. However, regardless of where one shares the story - actual problem remediation can only be made through the customer/business problem resolution process. In the end - Oliver is the final arbitrator - if the customer remains unsatisfied, none of us on this forum can remedy the situation. However, the majority of people on this forum are eager to help with suggestions and experience backed responses to aid all that ask. Family helping family. I would not think to question the motives and integrity of this forum and it's participants - as my experience here indicates otherwise. Overall it is a civil and positive place to share experiences and provide feedback. I am done here. This thread to the dustbin of concern. RB
  25. I have one we have used since the 80's - from the top of a white gas Coleman - in the way back - to the city slicker modern stovetop of the Ollie. It probably has more road miles on it than I care to admit. Last trip I noticed we had a new one - my wife said she found it on sale - but why? The new is now back in the home storage bin - and the old guy (toaster) is much happier - still useful- not having been replaced by the upstart cheap usurper. One of us is enough.
