Tips on draining holding tanks???
SeaDawg replied to Ray and Susan Huff's topic in General Discussion
Yup, even if we just emptied tanks, I close the shower valve. Open it at arrival. Part of the list. -
Hi, Jaydee, and Welcome. Now that you're registered, you can monitor the classified ads. You could post there, too.

Streetside shade (instead of awning)
SeaDawg replied to Fritz's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
There are many manufactured varieties of window awnings that can be added. I'd probably try a "homemade" version first, and see if it worked for me. If it's a "try it and see "venture, white pvc, schedule 40, already in the garage, would be fine for me. If you're worried about uv resistance, which I'm not, I'd hang it from a branch, and hit it with a coat of Krylon paint. Those frames are simple to make, and replace. If you wanted super easy to break down, and set up, I'd probably thread shock cord through, like tent poles. Or just carry the lightweight things flat, in the truckbed, and never disassemble. Btw, toto fabrics often has Sunbrella awning fabric for under $12 a 60" yard. One of my faves for outdoor fabric. If you are talking about the EZE RV gutter, I think it's a no brainer. It's easy to install, diverts water from the weepholes, etc., and we really love them. As do others. -
That's a beautiful vehicle. Our very good sailing and camping friends from up north tow an Elite with their GL450, and really say it's a "don't know it's there" kind of thing. Plus, they're always chiding us on their great fuel mileage. Even in Colorado, where we camped together a few years back. (They passed us on a wide portion of the Million dollar highway. Yes, we let them.) Yes, the II is heavier, and heavier tongue. Load the car and trailer appropriately, and I think you will really enjoy the ride. The seats in their GL, even the back seats, are awesome. Unlike some on here, we don't carry a half ton of spare parts and tools. For long trips, we carry clothes for 15 or 16 days, and provisions, and some tools and a few spares. Each year, the load gets lighter. If we don't use it in a season, it stays home the next.

You're not the first. Won't likely be the last. But really kind of you to make others aware. I think it's also important to not feel "hurried" at the dump station, just because there is a line. We wait our turns. Those behind us will wait theirs. -
The only real advantage is the wiring is already run, should you decide you want a better antenna, and like watching broadcast TV. I did a lot if research on antenna models when we decided to remove our unused KingDome last year. I decided to just stick with the small portable we stuck in the attic, as we never watch brodcast TV, anyway. We do stream Netflix or Amazon TV, occasionally, but usually on a tablet or phone, as we like different types of shows.

Thanks, Susan. A different model of Discoverer (srx) and size. But, if you have any question at all, you can search your tire identification number on the website. Always better safe than sorry. https://recallinfo.ustires.org/

That looks great, Frankc! The black makes a nice frame, even seems to make the window look larger. And I'm sure it will be easier to keep clean. Do you recall how many feet you ordered and used?

Maybe in your part of the country, but, around here, many, if not most contractors I know drive half-tons. Today's half-tons can tow the construction trailer to the jobsite, especially in my flat urban/suburban area. And, the trucks themselves are comfortable daily drivers. In my area, most of the few 2005 (or was it ) 6 to 2008 Chevy first gen half ton hybrids sold to contractors. Idling, they could run or charge power tools .

When you look ar reviews, it's nice if reviewers include their rig info. What's easy for us, can be difficult for big motothomes and sunblocker fifth wheels.

We had a macerator. Actually, two. And Paul rebuilt the first one, once or twice. They're great, til they're not. But, easy for us to add on, if you want one. -
What a great idea, and so well executed!
-
SUSAN SAID "Wouldn't this look great with an Ollie in tow?" It certainly would!
-
I really like the new fortified bumper protecting the fuel line and gas tank. Good idea.
-
I know this will be a serious disappointment, but the 1973 specs (with tow package) only allowed 100 lbs tongue weight, and an 800 lbs tow rating. 😅

I think it's in the plastic, but not sure. Houghton has always touted "high quality" plastic and uv resistance. Important to us in Florida, but even more so in Australia. We took it out of the box to check it out. Our old Dometic shroud is much thinner. And, the shroud is cracked in so many places that it's probably 20 per cent Eternabond tape, now. (Before anyone gets riled up, our unit is 13 years old, sits outside 24/7/365 , still works, and I could have bought a new shroud.) We really wanted the new unit for space considerations for the sidemount solar adjustment, increased efficiency, and the quiet.

Our Houghton 2801 (9500) arrived today, via FedEx freight. As AC units go, it's quite sleek. And, at the same time, seems to be pretty stoutly built.. Between removing the old Kingdome, and replacing the taller Dometic AC, we should pick up a few inches of height clearance. Our 9500 is cool only, (no heat) unlike Katanapilot's bigger 13500 unit. We were ok with that, as we needed the rooftop real estate for the bigger solar panels we added earlier, and room to adjust them. Everything is a tradeoff in replacing equipment. I doubt this will move off the bench this week. We have sailing plans this weekend. We'll see.

Zarcor tinted window and blind install 2020 OLEll Hull# 634
SeaDawg replied to Patriot's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
A question, Patriot. Is it easy to move the vanes of the blind without opening the door? You can reach the slider thru the little opening for the door handle in the screen door? -

Looks great! I'm sure you will enjoy it! -
The best boss I ever had shared this advice with me, "Talk to your people ever day. And listen. You can learn something every day, from anyone. The newest and least experienced guy in your group may just have a new insight or a great idea." I tried to follow that advice. And, I still do. Personally, I welcome the questions from new members, even if the question has been asked before. I don't mind looking up old threads, and adding links, either. Some people don't have the same skills, or time, that others do. I also very much appreciate the input from older members, who are so generous and kind with their responses, time, experience, and expertise. All if this is why, in my opinion, we have the best forum. It's welcoming, and interesting. And quite often fun. I will open a discussion on FAQ on the moderators' forum. Maybe a group of pinned topics could be helpful. We'll see. Sherry

Probably my smaller Elite, but I think the Elite II might require oxen. An Anderson yoke?

Streetside shade (instead of awning)
SeaDawg replied to Fritz's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Hi, Fritz. I came across this blog post on diy window awnings using pvc pipe and big command hooks. https://wackypup.blogspot.com/2017/06/easy-pvc-awnings-for-your-camper-fully.html?m=1 -
It helps keep the door closed a lot more. Which helps to maintain a steady fridge temp, and also minimize ice /frost buildup. Traveling in cooler temps the cooler is in the truckbed. If it's hot out, in the backseat of the truck, and the dog has to share her lux space. Our friend has a 12v cooler. He keeps it on the backseat so he can plug it in. Those are nice, and maybe someday we'll get one.

Rideandfly, that is really helpful info. I don't think anyone has gone into so much detail before on lp use for the fridge.

I'm glad you have been successful with the dc, Maniac. That should be helpful to dewdev. You both have Elite IIs, right? We have half the battery power you have, in our Elites. Our battery tray in our 2008 is smaller, accommodating only two batteries.
