Compost Toilet V Traditional RV Toilet
dewdev replied to Chris and Lisa's topic in General Discussion
Being a retired engineer that worked at public wastewater treatment facilities, I would not dump either coconut cor or the peat moss from the Nature's Head Toilet into your home toilet. If you have a compost pile at home, after the Nature's Head compost has had its time to compost, add it to that pile. The pee bottle can be emptied into the home toilet with no problem. I would suggest you go to the Oliver University forum and read the Nature's Head Compost Toilet Manual. Some of the answers to your questions can be found there. -
Stephanie and Dudley Did you check the Thule Bike Racks? They have ones for 1-1/2" receivers.

Compost Toilet V Traditional RV Toilet
dewdev replied to Chris and Lisa's topic in General Discussion
We really like our Nature Head compost toilet in our Oliver. My wife and I have never had a problem with urine going into the urine tank, athough I do sit down to make sure it goes into the correct spot. Yes the compost toilet does set several inches higher than the regular toilet. I bought a "Squatty Potty folding Bamboo toilet stool" so when we sit down our feet are placed on the stool for better comfort. I espically like not having to deal with empting the black water waste tank and not having to use fresh water in the regular toilet. -
You will enjoy your Oliver. The solar is the way to go as mentioned in the above posts. Plus the solar keeps my AGM batteries charged during the winter months when my Ollie has gone to sleep.

What Hitch to Arrive with to Pick up my new Ollie
dewdev replied to AlbertNTerri's topic in Introduce Yourself
I agree with JD in the above post. I took my trailer to a certified scale when I was ready to travel and after loading all my gear in the trailer (no water in tanks or groceries) I returned to the certified scale and and my hitch weight was 480 pounds. very little increase -
Greetings from Michigan - upgrading to 2 5/16 coupler?

I have the 2" ball with a Andersen WDH and pull it with my 1500 RAM rebel. No problems what so ever. I think the large ball is overkill and no necessary (unless you have other trailers with the larger ball). -
For work that takes more than 1 day, I am guessing that people find a motel for the night. Then if you get the Ollie back in the afternoon, can you stay another night at the Oliver CG? I guess I could ask Service that question, but maybe someone has already experienced that situation.

I want to restate that I love my Ollie. Out of the 5 campers I have owned over the years, this is hands down the best. I would not trade it for a different trailer manufactured in the US (or anywhere else for that matter). Yes I do not like the noisy AC unit but I have lived with it as it does work and does the intended purpose. I like that the Dometic controls which control both the AC and the furnace. I have not really camped in the deep south US so have not had to use the AC at night. Camping up North, I just use the AC in the late afternoon to cool down the trailer and then turn it off when going to sleep and use my fans. Works for me. Mossemi - Looks like you were kidding about selling your Ollie. Stay on the forum (not Facebook) as we like you ideas and opinions!

I love my Oliver. I wish it was possible to change out the standard microwave for the convection oven, but service told me that was not possible as the size of the hole in the fiberglass is different. I wish that Oliver would look into an offer a AC unit that is not so noisy? Has/is Oliver looked into this possibility of a quiter AC unit?

Yes the Pellandent gasket is pricey but you will only hopefully be doing it once. Install is quick. After all the Ollie is pricey. Why compromise?

I like the idea of the EZ gutters but concerned about loosing access to be able to recaulk the top of the windows. Comments please.

John - Unbelieveable picture with the June bugs. Where is that located and remind me not to go there at that time.

Heat Management of Lithium/Solar/Charging Upgrades
dewdev replied to Geronimo John's topic in Ollie Modifications
I am just strating to research upgrading from AGM's to Lithiums batteries and have been following the various forum posts the last few months. Question: Is it necessary when making the LItuium upgrade, to install a new DC to DC charger if you are not depending on the TV to be charging the lithiums while traveling? -
I also used both Meguirs products on my newly purchased used Olliver this spirng. I found that the 67 One Step Comppound took off the water spot markings easier than 2 other non-Meguiars products I tried. I used the Meguiar's Cleaner Wax this spring after the 67. This fall I used the Meguiars Flagship Premium Marine Wax. The Premium Marine Wax was a lot easier to apply than the Cleaner Wax and appeared to leave a far superior finish than the Cleaner Wax. Having owned a few boats in the past, these Meguiars products are a lot better than any of the other waxes I used in the past.

I just replaced mine with black. I ordered 18 feet (as recommended in a past post) which was enought to do the 3 large windows and the bathroom window, with a little left over, but not enough to also do the back window which already had a black gasket. If you want to do all the windows including the back window, I think you should order around 21 feet. You should take your own measurements to confirm the length though. The black looks really good, a lot better than the white.

Spike - I started this spring using the Tire Tracker brand TPMS system. I ordered 2 extra sensors for the spare tire on the Ollie and the spare tire on my TV. The system works great and I have not needed to use the reapeater which came with the system. You can order extra sensors for your TV as well as the Ollie and the display system will show all of them.

Has anyone installed the BMPro LP Tank Smartsense sensor and how has it worked out for you? Any recommendations on alternate measurement devices? Thanks Richard

Generally I have either been at CG sites that have good cell service or no cell phone service at all. The one time I tired the booster was at a CG site that had 3 bars of strength and the booster did not help in that case. As far as the lagun table, I store my in the closet against the interior wall of the Ollie closet. I put in some strips of velcro tape to hold in it place and put the bracket on the top shelf. This way they take very little space and are easy to retrieve and replace.

Steph and Dud B: Thule has a wheel supported bike rack that can be ordered for either a 2" or 1-1/4" receiver.

I like to look at the bright side of things (Glass being half full) You now have the time to plan or make Ollie upgrades. Alternately start planning on where to camp next year. I want to do a couple of tours to different parts of the USA next year so I have a lot of research and planning to do. Maybe one of the trips will be going to Nova Scotia and PEI, which I went to when I was a kid camping with my parents (the good old days when you did not worry about anything).

I went on line and bought my hypervent directly from a retail establishment instead of going to Oliver. Although a little expensive, well worth the investimate to protect my very expensive KTT mattresses. My experience with the hypervent has only been this spring, summer and early fall. Summer in New England was very humid this summer. I also crack open the two ceiling vents at night when the Ollie is occupied and the heat is running. Happy to say I have not had any moisture problems, other than one morning when a little moisture formed on the windows one cold night (but no dripping) when I forgot to open the main cabin vent but the bathroom vent was open and bathroom door was left open. That was my lesson learned moment and I made sure the main vent was open each night after that.

One of These Things Is Not Like the Others…..
dewdev replied to Mike and Carol's topic in General Discussion
Granted but size is not the best measure of reliability and performance. (Wish I was ex-military so I could get into those CG's.) -
This is a access covers so you could switch valves thorugh the access hole instead of lefting the mattress and access hatch. There are other access covers around the Ollie to allow someone to get to wiring.

Yes, I do the reverse when disconnecting. (By the way, I used to have a couple of Coleman pop-up trailers over the years. I really loved them but got sick of cranking up the roof and having all that canvass to dry out. Love my Ollie, as we can go camping and do not need to depend on CG facilities during the COVID times.)
