  1. So, everyone's camping style is slightly different depending upon their needs, wants, and desires - that's been discussed here regularly and it's a good thing, IMO, to recognize that we all have different ways to "roll." Right? Regarding the shore power cable... It's rare that we use the cable (or the Honda GENSET, for that matter) anymore. They both live in the bowels of our TV. We're happy with just letting the 540Watts of solar modules ramp up the BBs... We rarely find ourselves in a "pay for hookups" campsite, unless it's necessary for a particular route to get to a boon docking site. But hey, if it's WOXOF out there, we'll definitely dig out and use the cable/GENSET to top off the bank, if needed. Both items are considered backups at this point. One is none, 2 is one. HA! Cheers!
  2. Our 2017 wasn't configured with the positive locking drawer hardware - so we stole JDDavies' suggestion for adding drawer straps. I had taken a couple high-G turns on one of our first trips and launched the right side middle drawer (with a heavy Dutch Oven inside) into the passageway. The "JD Fix" with Footman Loops solved the problem:
  3. The dry-bath would be incentive to get into a larger Oliver - but we wouldn't be interested in a 30-footer. We had a 31' AS and although comfortable inside, too limiting for our particular camping style. OTT would get our attention If they offered a dry bath 27' - because any larger of a rig wouldn't fit in the Man Cave... HA! Those "Plugs" that OTT uses to form the hulls are not a cheap date, just like @topgun2 mentioned. Offering a slightly larger dry-bath rig with other amenities would definitely worm OTT into Airstream market space - 100% concur w/ @HDRider's comment.
  4. ....what about the outside shower? Do y'all clear those H&C water lines pneumatically? Just curious
  5. We sure did...🤣
  6. Ha! That’s amazing! Stayed 2 nights at Picacho Peak SP in their “rustic” area (no hook-ups). Awesome hiking there. Enjoy The Q!
  7. …and then there were three at The Q:
  8. Returned home yesterday afternoon from a 13-day Quartzsite trip. Spotted 6 OTTs during the 1576-mile run. Hull #’s 1441, 148, 50, and an unknown # were seen in person, 2 others were seen while driving on I-10 in the opposite direction. Not bad, IMO, that’s 0.46 Ollies spotted per day…. Ha! FYI: both of the OTTs on I-10 were spotted yesterday- the first one was at 10:50am westbound about 10 miles west of the AZ/NM border, white pickup TV. The second one was about noon yesterday at approximately mile marker 65 in NM also westbound being towed by a dark colored pickup. Anyone know who they might be?
  9. Ours runs a weekly 15-minute “Built-in-Test” . The BIT results can be pulled up on the app. Its peace of mind knowing it’ll startup after sensing a loss of utility power.
  10. Headed to @ScubaRx's location now... 6.3 miles north west of my current location...
  11. The boys and I had our 2nd "Oliver Sighting" today on DAY-11 of this trip... It was Hull #148 from FL, the TV was not present so it's unknown who the owner is. Spotted this very nice looking rig in the Dome Rock Camping Area just west of Quartzsite.
  12. I got bored - had to do something...
  13. Hey @jd1923: QuartzFest 2024 officially opens tomorrow, but early registration started today. They're expecting 800+ rigs from all over the US and Canada... Planning to depart mid-week and head back to my lovely bride who'll be just getting home from Chicago - everything regarding the return route, at this point is WX-dependent. It would be great to get some "dueling Oliver" pix, right? We'll keep you posted in any case... Cheers!
  14. Thanks @Geronimo John: We've got a fairly small house and the 12.5kW fits us perfectly. All our 120vAC demands are met with this unit. However, the cave isn't tied into the standby GENSET, that's why we'll be installing a standalone solar/battery bank back-up system this spring for the cave (what we do to keep our beer cold, right?). But this unit can run both LNG or LPG and it comes with the second set of jets to do just that. Real easy to switch over to the other type of gas.
  15. Hey, @topgun2 - that's the 3 axle 30-footer with 3 slide-outs, right?
  16. Awesome report @jd1923! Can't wait to get ours connected to the system. About how far is it from your LR to the Dongle?
  17. We've been members since 2012!
  18. MASSIVE! Very impressive! Thanks for sharing the results... What was the disposition of the night stand? Just curious.
  19. "Red sky at night - sailor's delight?" I'm thinking those adages don't apply to this particular geographic region - the nearest major body of water is about 360 miles west of here. They call it the, "Pacific Ocean." HA!
  20. We're not as lucky, @topgun2. We'll experience several power outages annually, some lasting many hours to days. Always seen to happen in the colder months. But so long as LNG doesn't go off line at the same time as grid power - we'll be OK. That's why we're planning to make the "Cave" off-grid, worse case scenario - we move from the main house to the cave during extended LNG/Power outages... That scenario hasn't happened in the 19 years we've lived here... BUT....?
  21. So we moved to a campsite about 4.5 miles south of The Q to BLM land that outside of LTVA fee-areas. We're closer to the QuartzFest HAM Radio campout which starts tomorrow. The boys and I volunteered to help out the organizers by hauling their registration tents and accessories from their storage location in downtown Q. The QF started officially in '96 or '97 and draws north of 800 rigs from all over the US and Canada. It will likely start getting a bit crowded around here by this weekend! FYI: Here's the latest sun rise from the Sonoran Desert taken a few minutes ago: Cheers!
  22. Not to highjack the thread, but - same here, @Patriot - we installed ours about a year ago, but had been wanting to do it for quite some time. Our installers wired the standby power system into the main house panel via an ATS which is in addition to the 6.8kW of solar on the roof. Solar's not going to help us during a power shortage as ours goes back into the grid as we don't have battery bank storage (soon to change). We have ten 300W modules in storage from another project that we're designing to power the "Man Cave." Currently it's energized by a 75A sub panel from the house. We want to make it completely self contained/off-grid later this spring. Just another "honey dew." HA! We've experienced actual power losses and the system kicks into action in 50 to 80 milliseconds after detecting grid power loss, the digital clocks in the house don't even notice the changeover. We're also glad we did this.
  23. So, I decided to move to a location adjacent to where the annual QuartzFest HAM Radio "campout" will start on Saturday. It's about 4.5mi south of the RV Show at MM99 on the west side of HWY 95. It's on BLM land that is outside of LTVAs, so there's no fee. Much less crowded - at least for now, this event usually draws north of 800 HAM rigs from all over the US and Canada.
