You might as well get three if you want to stay in the race!😁

Replacing Window trim - what brand is it?
topgun2 replied to wolfdds's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Given the glass - I'd bet that it is a bathroom window. -
Maverick has good advice above - reading all you can is your friend and you can learn just about all there is to know about the Andersen from both sides of the debate. As far as delivery of your Elite ll is concerned relative to the Andersen, all you have to do is arrive at the appointed hour with a tow vehicle that is capable of towing the Elite ll and have a two inch receiver on the back of it ( note that if you have some sort of "special" tow vehicle then you should advise your Sales person of this so that they can either tell you what you need to bring or so that they can make sure that they have the correct parts). The Oliver Service gang will take it from there by installing the Andersen on your Elite ll and adjusting the Andersen parts that go into your receiver so that they are at the correct height. In addition to reading, be sure to view all the videos you can regarding the Andersen WDH (just go to YouTube and in the "search" box type Andersen weight distribution hitch). This way you should be familiar with how it works and what to do in both ordinary and extra ordinary circumstances. Bill

Condensation problems with fiberglass walls?
topgun2 replied to AuthorSP's topic in General Discussion
Instead of purchasing what I thought to be rather expensive materials to insulate my mattress from both the bottom and the walls - I went down to Lowes and bought a sheet of 1/2 inch foam board. I cut a piece for the bottom and then cut other pieces to rise about 6 inches up the wall. That is just enough to reach to the top of the mattress without actually seeing it under normal circumstances. Since I never really had a "problem" with condensation prior to using the foam board I can't really say that it has or has not had a material effect on the condensation. But, when in the middle of the night my "butt" slides over to the exterior wall, I'm certainly not jolted awake by the relatively cold wall. Given the relative cost of the foam board versus the alternative solutions, it has certainly worked for me. Bill -
A bit useless for those few of us that do not carry cell phones.😁

My original Andersen WDH setup was to have 6 threads showing - we arrived at this at delivery of my Oliver by measuring and remeasuring. After that I "toyed" with 7 threads showing and 5 threads showing but have always come back to the original 6 threads. Yes, there have been those very rare occasions when traveling off-road that I've loosened the chains, but, for ALL paved road activities the Andersen has never given me an ounce of trouble. I try to always be mindful of the driving situation I'm in - if there is a big "dip" in the road I simply take that slowly at an angle or if that isn't safe I simply drive on to another gas station. All sorts of things "alert" me to scope out the situation I'm in. If it is a road that has ruts, dips, roots, rocks, etc. I'm already out of the cab taking a look at departure angles, spacing of those rocks, overhanging tree limbs, condition of the road-bed, etc., etc.. So, the Andersen is just a minor part of that activity. All other WDH's that I've used have had these same (or greater) issues. Bill

In my 2016 I requested the addition of a 110, a 12 volt, and two USB's on the street side of the nightstand. I also had production add one 12 volt on the exterior right below the 110 outlet on the curbside. I rarely use the outlets in the kitchen, so, the hanging cords don't bother me there.

That door is held on by "rope"?

EDIT NOTE: See first post at the beginning of this thread for the resolution to the problem. -
Fritz - Have you tried putting a bit more weight in the back of that 3/4?

Truck vs trailer tires, chip-sealing fiasco
topgun2 replied to Fritz's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
THAT is plain nasty. I simply can't imagine the work it took (or will take) to clean the underside of the Ollie and/or truck. Hopefully it doesn't cause you any permanent issues. Bill -
Mossey - You nailed it! Actually a neighbor was moving and was going to throw that putting green away. So, I rescued it to make the mat you see and I've been using it for four years now as a door mat. Bill

No problem. Given that I camp a fair amount in the western Rockies where there can be a bunch of wind, after I had the issue with that latch I made a "holder" for the door. The picture below shows it in action - it is nothing but a nylon rope with a stainless steel hook attached to a bungie that has a hook on it. The stainless steel hook is attached to the interior door latch handle and the bungie hook is attached to the "latch" for the dog house propane cover. This arrangement takes the stress off that Oliver door latch and allows me to keep my door open even in the most windy conditions. Bill

You have NO choice as long as you wish to help protect you liability issues. A WDH is REQUIRED by Ford for your truck. Bill

WOW! Shiny clean Ollie, shiny clean floor and really nice words for the folks at Oliver. Glad all went well for you and that you are now enjoying that camper. Be careful and certainly take your time - this is especially important as you get used to all of the new things around you. Bill

A drill to remove those existing rivets and a reasonably stout rivet gun to replace it. Bill p.s. When I had a problem with mine I happened to be near the Mothership and asked them to take a look at it. Apparently the Service guys had a little difficulty with it (their rivet gun was not feeling well I suspect) but in the end the repaired catch has not moved.

I just took a look and now see that (not unexpectedly) the North America map update is also for other models of Garmin GPS's. So, if you own any Garmin GPS that has lifetime map updates, it is more than likely an update is waiting for you too. Bill
-
Apparently it is that time again - Garmin has just released two updates. A small on for iOverlander takes only about two minutes to download and install. However, the second update is for the full set of North America maps and it takes considerably longer. Bill

I think that whether anyone has had both is a bit unimportant in that it is really up to you to decide. Take a tour of each one (the Sales staff at Oliver can arrange that for you) and then decide. I do agree with you that the Ford Ranger is too small to tow the "II" for any distance from both a comfort and safety stance. Good luck with your search! Bill

It sounds to me like you have several choices: 1. Get your "reseller/dealer" to indemnify you against all liability associated with ignoring the manufacturer requirement that you use a WDH. 2. Get your "reseller/dealer" to fix the problem with the "self adjusting" airbags. 3. Spend a bunch of money to get a new truck. 4. Take the liability risk yourself and/or learn to live with the strange airbags. Good luck! Bill

Just so there is NO confusion on this - the 23.5 inches should be to the top of the ball as NCeagle mentions above. Good luck on your delivery and be prepared for being overloaded with information. Bill

Its OK to call it a "stay up table".
