  1. Our Oliver LE2 is stored in along side our house and is subject to rain, oak leaves, pine needles, bugs and whatever else Mother Nature throws at it in Lutz, FL. It is a constant struggle to keep it clean and off-site storage is very expensive. And until the finance department approves a storage solution, I’ll just have to try to keep up with the maintenance. Florida is called the Sunshine State but we also receive a fair amount of rain. After a 5” rain one day this summer, we found the curbside bench cushions to be wet. I found some ideas about the cause of the leakage in the Oliver forums and determined that cause of the leak was dirt and crud blocking the weep slots. ScubaRx/Steve offered some detailed thoughts about cleaning the window tracks which included the weep slots. So I tackled that project which included removing the window seals covering the fixed glass track. Then removing the sliding window track seal and finally removing the screen and it’s seal. With those items removed I was able to clean the tracks pretty well. I have attached a poor picture of the 3 tracks of the window frame and the weep slots. And in an effort to be clear, the picture does not show the slots very well. The weep slots are between the outside of the window frame and the fixed glass track and between the fixed glass track and the sliding glass track. There aren’t any weep slots to the screen track. So if the weep slots become clogged, the water overflows into the sliding glass track and the overflow runs down the inside wall. This can happen to any of the windows except the door window. The Norton’s had told me about draining the the window tracks by placing a finger at the bottom of the weep slot and creating a capillary effect to drain the window tracks. The window weep slots must be fairly clean for this to work. It’s very effective if you are around your Oliver when it rains. And now my helpful tip. I cut pipe cleaners in half and place one in each weep slot. The slots between the outside and middle tracks line up, so push the pipe cleaners through the outside track and into the middle track. It requires about an 1-1/4” of the pipe cleaner to reach the middle track. I find that the tracks dry out much faster with the pipe cleaners than without. The pipe cleaners also travel pretty well as we didn’t lose any on our last camping trip which included some interstate driving. We hope this proves useful for someone.

  2. We live on Route 66 in mid MO and just drove 2200 miles to pick up our 2009 Elite. We have been retired for 18 years and traveling for most of that time. This is our third trailer and our first Oliver. Let me say I have never had a trailer that pulls so easy. We look forward to many trips with the Oliver and hope our paths cross at sometime with other Oliver owners. Hull #39

  3. Thank you both for doing the hard work of planning the micro rally. Krunch and I had a great time making some new friends and breaking bread bread with some old ones. The hurricane made for some second thoughts about attending but it turned to be a great week for camping. Thanks again, Mike and Krunch

  5. I can’t clear mine either. I’ve notified Jason. I think it’s all related to the software update. Mike

  6. Mirna and I want to thank everyone for coming to the Micro Rally! We had a wonder time and hope everyone else did as well. Our goal was to get to know more Oliver owners in a wonderful campground on the beach and we did just that. Over the course of the week we had 11 trailers and 18 people join us. We traded stories, knowledge and campgrounds we loved to visit and even had potential Oliver owners join us for dinner. While many of us did not know each other well, we left with new friends and bonds that will last a lifetime. Special thanks to Oliver and Matt Duncan for the gifts and Bill (Topgun) for making all of us winners! I would personally like to thank Mike and Krunch for keeping our Fish Fry dry & clean, all of you who brought delicious side dishes to make the meal a true feast! For those of you thinking about doing something like a Micro Rally in your local state, I would highly recommend it. It is a bit of planning but what you create and gain far outweighs the effort many times over. If we can help you think about planning or answer questions about how to do this, please reach out to us. Owning an Oliver makes you part of a wonderful family and getting together is great fun!

  7. Yes they are a great tow vehicle you will love it. On the chains go to tractor supply or some place like that and get two hooks that will fit the trailer hitch on your truck and replace those on the trailer because they will not. You just pull the carter pin put the new ones on and hook up. One idea on the safety brakes is look on the under side if the truck hitch and if like mine there is a hole there get a eye bolt a couple lock washers and couple nuts to tighten up and have a nice place right in the middle under the hitch and chains to hook up the brake switch. I have taken the trip to Alaska several times and the rock tamers are nice and help they are not the complete answer. I would recommend covering the front of the trailer from running lights to the center front. I will attach a pic for and idea. I'm not going there only for reference lots of theory on this subject. 9. Chris - Thanks for putting this together! Please don't tell me that Duke took the last shot of the sunrise over the ocean. Just as I got to Interstate 95 on the way home the sun was coming up and it was simply special. Bill

  10. As I have said or implied in other posts - I like my CalMark cover. However, there are two comments that are appropriate here. First is that one should not be surprised about how heavy the cover is and how "interesting" it is to put on the Oliver. Certainly it would help if two people worked on putting to cover on but I have always done this chore by myself. I first lay out the cover on the ground and then moving from front to back take the cover up the ladder and clamp it to the curbside awning. Then without climbing on the roof I throw as much of the cover as possible over the bath vent, TV antenna, solar panels, MaxAir vent and air conditioner making sure that the three black straps make it over the street side edge of the Oliver. Next I go to the street side and pull those black straps (and cover) the rest of the way over the camper. After adjusting for side to side and front to back I then fasten the black straps and cinch the bottom. Start to finish it takes the better part of an hour and a half to get everything the way I like it. Second comment is that I did not purchase the CalMark wheel covers. These covers are also made of the same fabric as the full cover. I felt that the vinyl exterior of the Camco covers would repel dirt better and be easier to clean than the CalMark's. Except where the storage facility's maintenance person hit these covers with a weed eater I've been happy with them. Bill

  11. I'll second Mike and Krunch's comments! As noted in many news outlets, last week brought some interesting weather to a fair part of the Southeast and devastating weather to some parts of Florida and Georgia. Fortunately, while the weather in the Jacksonville area was a bit damp and breezy at times and required Foy and Mirna and Miguel to do a bit of a two step from time to time, all turned out great. Virtually everyone pitched in to help and there was plenty of time for site seeing, bike riding, running, beach walking, swimming, etc. To me, one of the benefits of having a "small" rally is that there is time to be able to see, meet and talk with most, if not all, of the participants. Try that at the annual Owner's Rally! Bill p.s. Towards the end of the rally there was a rumor that Bob Mitchell was not feeling well. Mike and Krunch and I stopped by his camper on Friday night to check on him. As it turns out, he was taking a nap and there were no problems at all - an annual physical and a day spent with the grandkids was why he was not around his campsite all day.

  12. Flyniah - I'm afraid that what you are experiencing with the Forum has to due with some technical issues we have been having over the past few days. A "PM" that Mike refers to is simply a Private Message (PM) and can normally be sent via this Forum by simply clicking on the Forum member's name of looking up the members name under "Members" which is a drop down menu under "Forums" above (between "see an Ollie and blog). I'm sure that the PM function will be back in business tomorrow (Monday) or Tuesday. However, if you want to get a head start, simply call the office and I'm sure that they will have Jim get right back to you via email or phone. Bill

  14. I had an top of the line ARE cap on my Tundra for 11-1/2 years. Leaked around the tilt out windows from the begining. I pointed out to the dealer where the window glass was not curved properly to seat againt the gasket and form a seal. His response was that it was the glass manufactures fault not an ARE issue and he wouldn’t deal with them! I wrote and called ARE multiple times. I never got a resolution from them. I told them it was not for me to deal with the glass manufacturer, I bought the cap from ARE and they were responsible for fixing it. Crickets. Within a year the seals between the tilt out window and side glass fell out. The tilt out mechanism on one window had to be repaired , then the latch mechanism on the back access window broke. If ARE would have worked with me on the leaks I could have dealt with the other issues. They didn’t so I am going with Lear. A couple of other things: When I requested the Lear quote from 3 dealers via their website; one dealer responded within a couple of hours, one took two weeks and one never responded. The dealer that responded quickly had a much better price than the other dealer. I was suprised at the variation in price. Second, I am very leary when a dealer says they dropped a manufactures line. My experience is that it could just as well be that the manufacture dropped the dealer. The dealer no longer can carry the manufactures line so now they are a competitor and they start bad mouthing them. Just something to consider. You definitely want to have a removable front glass or no glass with cab to cap seal so you can clean the windows. I don’t have my Lear yet so time will tell on that. I do know I will not buy ARE again. -Randy

  15. The picture in the previous post of the silver truck shows our Leer. I went with the 100XL. It took 5 weeks to get because they custom match the paint. Our dealer said he used to carry ARE but had too many problems with them. I'm sure they all bash whichever one they don't carry. The removable front window is a must if you want to be able to clean the back window of the truck. We got a slider too but probably don't need that because when I open the rear window in the truck air still flows through the truck because of the space between the cap and cab. Might open it to help air through the cap sometime but have not done that yet. We also added the liner to the inside and it gives a much nicer finished off look. We had a tonneau cover on our last 2 trucks and the cap is so much nicer and easier to deal with. I have a friend that has a ARE and he is very happy with it. I had a ARE hard tonneau a few years back and it was a very nice product that was on the truck for 8 years. I do love my Leer cap and it seems to be a quality product too.

  16. Funny, but we showed our Oliver, here in Maine, to a couple that live and work in Houston. They happened to be visiting their daughter at college. He had done all the research and was the one wanting. She walked into the camper, looked around for a moment, turned and said: "Sold". A great visit, and I think they were calling to place their order. Good luck with your search, and if you happen to be in Maine, let me know and 'we will leave a light on for you'...

  19. We purchased it from the original owners. In 2017 Oliver went through the trailer and upgraded and redid some things that they had found over the years that could be done in a better way. They also had new tinted windows and a new microwave put in at that time by Oliver. It was just what we were looking for. It is small enough and pulls so well that my wife feels comfortable in driving so I can take a break which wasn’t true with our other trailers. I am use to hand crank jacks and now to just push a button to level it is great. Fewer bells and whistles then our Motorhome we just sold but less worry and we just love it. Happy Camper.

  20. The Oliver requires a 2" ball unless you change the coupler which there is no need to do. This is the one we use on our 2500 HD https://www.etrailer.com/Ball-Mounts/Curt/C45312.html https://www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Ball/Curt/A-90.html [attachment file=20181011_182013.jpg]
