  1. I have been there a couple of times in a lifted Jeep but never stayed at the campground. The area is very interesting. Lots of 14ers. I think it would be a fabulous place to go with the Oliver but like someone mentioned it really matters more what you are driving for a pull vehicle. The Falls are cool to see plus the dunes and if you have time the Huerfano valley is amazing (you can take a shortcut and go through Medano pass if you have a 4x4 straight from the dunes) to gain a beautiful view of the North side of Blanca and Ellingwood if you are into hiking/trekking. The Valley and lots of roads in that area would not be for the Ollie but you could definitely go and have a blast sticking to the main roads. Entrance to the Falls

  2. I start out using two cheap bubble levels that I have near the front jack. To fine tune, I just use the bathroom door as a guide. If it doesn’t swing open or shut, then the trailer is level enough for me.

You can also follow topics by clicking on the 'follow' button on the top right of the page. If you just want to maintain a list of topics rather than being notified about new content, then you can choose 'no notifications'. Under your profile, you can go to 'manage followed content' and see a list of topics that you follow.

  4. We picked up two of these commercial grade extension poles at Lowe’s to assist in draping the Calmark Cover over our Ollie when it comes time to store it. Our intention is start from the front using the poles to lift the cover with one person on each side of the Ollie walking back and slowly draping the cover as we go. I purchased a cheap pack of tennis balls at Wally World to protect the cover from the threaded ends of the extension poles. This is just an idea or lets say a work in progress. The poles extend up to 8’ and are very rigid. We will only need to extend the poles 3’ to clear the 9’7” top of the AC. So we’ll post up our thoughts on how this idea works when we give this a try at some point in the future.

  5. In a pinch, if the bubble level is out of whack, and you don't have another level nearby, a half full water bottle (clear or translucent, not stainless), can work as a crude level, laid on its side. If you can get the tongue "close", you can fix it with boards under the tires and the Jacks. Most of us feel uncomfortable inside the trailer if it is out of level by more than a few degrees. If you're comfortable, it's likely that your fridge is ok, too. Sherry

  6. This is a LOCKED thread. I wanted to put all my links in one spot so that they are easy for folks to find. Search remains a real problem with this forum! This thread does not allow comments. If you have questions, find a dead link or just want to talk, you can comment on the appropriate thread, or start a new thread or just Message me. I will add to this page as I start new threads, so hopefully it will continue to be a good up-to-date reference. NEWEST POSTS ARE AT THE TOP. I am not going to bother to alphabetize them, LOL. I put a link to this page in my signature, so you can get here directly from any of my comments. 9. No worries, we live for questions.... The bumper drops down for access to the sewer compartment, so no, it cannot be solidly integrated with the frame. The bumper is a chunky 1/4" thick rectangular beam with huge pivot bolt at each end. The part that actually drags the ground is the rear cross support for the floor in that sewer compartment. Here are a couple of pics. Show them to your son and he could advise you. And this is what is in front of the bumper: If I were to do this, I would make a steel bracket that wraps around both sides of the frame (a flat bottomed U shape) and install it where it says "Main Frame Member" in the second pic. That cross channel is 1" high, so the roller would extend down about 2 inches below it and offer decent protection and also be very strong, being attached directly to that massive frame member. The compartment cover must be able to be removed for access to the water tanks, so it must be trimmed away to clear any roller brackets If you get an Oille and install rollers, please post a thread about it with pics and dimensions. Maybe your son could offer these for sale as an owner installed kit. A welder for a son, I wish I had one 😉 John Davies Spokane WA

  10. I found this picture from the Zapata Falls Campground in Google Street View. If the same person graded the campground road I would guess the access road looks as good. Make your own judgement, but it looks smooth to me. Mossey

  11. Finally found a picture that I took in the Oliver showroom where they have a little dinette setup for you to mix and match options. This is not what we eventually chose, but it shows Mont Blanc counter and and Flannel cushions together, and I believe it is the Baron floor.

  12. The theoretical angle calculations for a self contained RV are far different than for a trailer being towed, where you can have a situation where the tow vehicle front axle will drop down into a deep depression or rut, forcing the tongue of the trailer upwards, and this is all going on independently from what is happening back at the trailer wheels. The real worry is not smaller holes or drop offs, but protruding rocks or ledges that can’t be avoided. The variables are so many that I don’t think these angles are useful numbers. For a single vehicle like a Jeep, they certainly are important - dragging expensive hard parts over fixed pointy rocks is to be avoided as much as possible! Rollers can work great on smooth pavement if properly located and with proper (really strong) mounts, but on an unpaved forest road they will just dig trenches or get completely stuck, and not do anything at all to protect the frame or a low hitch. They are a band aid fix at best, ideally you raise the frame higher by altering the suspension so that dragging simply won’t occur. Or buy something other than a LE2 If somebody wants to do a project and add rollers, these are my choice, welded to stout steel plates in the back corners, bolted to the frame rails. They are plenty strong and hopefully won’t be a nuisance by hanging down too much. The roller brackets are just 2.375” high...... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071RVYCSK/?coliid=I1A99Z99XZLVXI&colid=1X5H11EH41351&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it John Davies Spokane WA

  13. I would choose upholstery first and then choose the countertop. When we actually saw the upholstery side by side with counter samples and floor samples in Hohenwald, we changed our minds about some options. Finally chose black cabinet doors, Samba counters (black) and flannel upholstery (dark grey) and Baron floors. (Baron has a much more grey vibe overall than Knox.) Sounds like a lot of darkness but in the actual trailer it looked great against the white interior. Maybe ask someone at the sales office to put together the options you are considering at the sample dinette there and send you a photo. Wish I had photos but our Oliver won't be ready till the fall. Will settle for this photo of one of the throw pillows I have made to add color.

  15. Krunch and I went to Zapata Falls when we visited Great Sand Dunes NP&P in 2009. We were exploring Colorado by rental car and spent 3 days in the area. We drove up to the Zapata Falls parking lot and hiked up to the falls. The trail starts just past the campground road. I don’t remember the road being a problem, but I was probably driving something like a Chevy Malibu. Zapata Ranch is very close to the falls as well. It is a working ranch owned and operated by The Nature Conservancy. By the way, Lake City is 136 miles west of Zapata Falls, so maybe I’m talking about a different campground. Mossey

  16. I've seen comments on just about every brand forum about the noisy ac units dometic and others sell for US units. And, every RV I've ever used or delivered with a rooftop ac since the 70s had a noisy ac. I'm wondering when Dometic will offer certain other more efficient, quieter inverter compressor units like the Australian Harrier and European Freshjet 3000 in North America? Australia sells probably ten or 15 per cent of the rvs sold in the US, but they seem to get all the best gear first. 😒 The inverter technology seems to be like that of some minisplits. Run longer, but run at only the speed required to maintain the requested temperature, nice and even. Not that constant cycling on and off of our single speed compressors. I saw a test on a Harrier on a youtube from Australia. With inverter compressor and fan both running on highest setting, it drew 48 amps from the lithium battery, and no startup issues, as the inverter/variable speed compressor tech is a "built in" soft start. I think ramping up from 2.6 or something like that. It ramped up slowly. If low setting amp use is say, half of high, you might possibly enjoy ac through the entire night on a lithium set up like Overland's, on battery. And, one of these had a dc upgrade kit, can't remember which, but I think Freshjet. Wouldn't that be nice? The new for 2020 European dometic freshjet 3000 looks suspiciously like the Harrier. The photos attached to the Dometic press release even showed Harriers, when I clicked over to the next page. Either they made a mistake in photos, or it's rebadged for Europe and the UK. I feel like sending Dometic USA an email. I know there are a number of us who are willing to spend a little more for a quiet night's sleep and the ability to run on lithium or a 2000 watt generator. Probably not of interest to a lot of Elkhart manufacturers, who want to cut costs at every turn, but I think it would be of interest to a lot of people, here. Sherry

  17. Doesn't seem like it, but the more people who ask, the greater the chance. Oliver moves slowly - they talked about Lithium for three years before offering it. I think that the main issue with Oliver and the comfort plus is in managing the production line. The regular Truma and the tank have the same plumbing, but if they switch to the comfort plus, then they have a plumbing change to manage. Seems like a small thing, and it probably would be if it were the only option; but in the larger picture things get complicated. I suspect that Oliver limits their options to things that can be easily fitted or fixed after the hulls are together. You don't want to figure out after that point that you've got the wrong plumbing in a trailer, or someone cut the wrong hole for the fridge.

  19. I just read through some descriptions. Sounds like fun to me. Given some of the rigs that people in the descriptions say they were towing (34' 5th wheel, for example), I'd say just plan extra time to take it as slowly as you need. Sounds like the road is wide and I didn't see any mention of mud. How are your repair skills, just in case? 😉

More Ollie owners and more members equals more potential friction, and sometimes things get said that shouldn't be said. Everyone makes mistakes, that is expected. I do greatly appreciate it when intentionally harsh or overly aggressive posts are removed promptly. Bravo. The same for spam posts with links to other websites - they are usually taken out very quickly if flagged right away. Sometimes I post in the wee hours of the night if I can't sleep, or I am in a hurry and my words do not come out exactly as I intended. I hope that anybody who might take offense understands that no harm is ever meant. Once written, words are hard to take back. John Davies Spokane WA

  21. We have the Winegard Walk out satellite antenna which requires a specific Dish receiver. I ordered the receiver from Winegard. You won’t need a splitter - just choose either antenna or HDMI from the TV source input. The only difficulty encountered was the coax jacks on the Ollie were mislabeled. Once I figured out that the “cable” and “satellite” inputs were reversed, all worked perfectly.

  22. Yes they do fit nicely. The crates themselves are pretty light weight but you can load them pretty heavy as they are very sturdy. I use a boat hook attached to a piece of pvc pipe to pull them out. Good luck, Mike

  23. We plan to go back next fall, too. It was a fine trip, while camping in UT, a camper next to us told us about Valley of Fire SP, we camped there and enjoyed it. There was a very loud, high wind, rain & lightning storm (no hail) about 2:00 in the morning while camping there, Ollie handled it great. Thanks,

  25. Reed, Yes, Seals would have fixed the problem after cleaning valve. Debbie soaked lower valve portion with blade for a day in water & white vinegar before cleaning.

  26. Reed, Happy to see you back posting again! :) We had a problem with the cable handle shaft when the valve was opened, the handle shaft would come out of the bulkhead threaded fitting under the bed. Shortened wire 3/8" where it connected to the 3" valve. Works properly now. I may be off topic, but wanted to post how we resolved 3" valve bypass. Posted this in another thread, too. We purchased Ollie used and the black tank 3" valve was bypassing when we purchased Ollie. Tried Thetford drain valve lubricant poured in black water tank and adjusting/lubricating cable, both without success. Replaced blade valve and seals earlier this week following Valterra video instructions starting around 3:10. New Valterra 3" black tank valve body and seals: Valve located under dinette seat: 3" Black tank valve on RH side: Loosen 3" black tank hose to allow removal of the 3" blade valve: Removing cable mounting bracket: 3" Valve removed: Build up on seal surfaces contacting valve blade causing bypass: Silicone lubricant used on seals and blade rod. https://www.danco.com/product/0-5-oz-silicone-faucet-grease/ New valve/seals installed and working great: https://www.valterra.com/product/waste-valve-body-3-with-coupler-seals-hardware/?pcat_id=1445

  27. Actually I use two separate runners - each about 6 feet long and an entry mat. I use the two runners because I find that they are easier to handle - particularly when shaking them outside - and, the one in the "bedroom" has a thicker pile which is nice on the tootsies. The runner in the kitchen is similar to those indoor/outdoor mats that can be rinsed off with a hose in the event something nasty gets spilled onto it. Of course they are matching colors! Bill
