  1. After our install of Alcan leaf pack we decided to tour the Grande Mesa National Forest here in Grand Junction. We also highly recommend the Colorado National Monument a must see if you’re in this area. We also took the ski lift up Powder Horn ski resort the views from the lift were epic at 10’ elev. It was really cool to see that they allow mountain biking in the off ski season. We had a light lunch at the base of Powder Horn before our lift ride to the top. The weather was perfect. As you can tell, no traffic to speak of and no crowds. We are convinced that after Labor Day is the perfect time and temp to visit out west. Happy and Safe Travels! The Beast even got in on the action… IMG_1617.mov IMG_1627.mov IMG_1630.mov The good food at Powder Horn hit the spot! My sweet bride!

  2. Have you poured any water in the p trap of your shower drain lately? If you pee trap has no water in it, it will allow any odor from your gray tank to off gas into your shower. We periodically when traveling just add water to the p trap. No odor after doing so. Also it does not hurt to pour a little water and dawn or tank treatment down the p traps. Hope this helps!

  3. I've seen your mod and it's truly something that Oliver should consider from stock! It was on my list..Brilliant!

  4. Doubt it is a black tank issue. Gray tank yes. We had our tanks cleaned at the Rally and use a Pine-Sol mix. We always use the black tank flush after emptying and flush out the gray as well.

  5. Hey Everyone.... Update and closeout of this thread. We test drove both the Ram and Duramax 2500 trucks. They are awesome tow platforms but.... a bit too high for Donna to climb up into with her back situation. Our TV would be about 1/3 towing and 2/3 regular driving. I think we have found a good compromise and I will have a post on that in a week or so. Thank you all again. Nice to have knowledgeable people to bounce ideas off of. Happy Camping!

  6. You will be totally fine John. Lew and his staff at Alcan are really awesome to deal with.

  7. Oliver did ours and I checked the bolts on our way to East Tennessee at about 70 miles and then at about 120 miles. Final check was when we got home, a couple thousand miles. Each time some tightening was required. Not much on the final. I’ll probably check again before our next trip (Inks Lake Oliver Rally). Mike

  8. Before you rip the vanity apart - it is worth the shot to tap on that under the kitchen sink valve. Just sayin'. Bill

  9. That is a good idea. I agree with @jd1923 and @Mike and Carol the vent pipe connection could very well be your culprit. Persevere!

  10. Looks like you’re going to have to open it. I put mine back with 4 screws, drill 5/32” holes, rubber washers and a white rubber seal, no caulk. https://a.co/d/5G5pVZd

  11. One more thing to check (I speak from experience here), open up the area under the sink in the bathroom. In the back on the left you’ll see where the vent pipe connects to the black tank. On our trailer it was not glued, just stuck into the hole on the top of the black tank. It had come out and was sitting on top of the tank off center so part of the hole was open. The vent pipe is now epoxied into the black tank. Mike

  12. Yeah, I'm an avid 'flusher' even with no TP in my tank. I'm pretty sure this is black tank odor..in my opinion, they're both bad but distinctly different. I'm not a fan of the pine scent in Pinesol so I use their other scents with addition of the Calgon beads...but it's not a cure-all.

  13. I have access to a camera snake; I may try shooting it down the vent before I start ripping things apart.

  14. I've got 1 1/2 suggestions: 1 - have you checked the valve under the kitchen sink? you will need to remove 1 or 2 drawers on the left side as you face the sink. Then look at the plumbing and you are looking for a vertical pipe. There are times when the valve in the vertical pipe will become "stuck". Tap on that pipe with a small hammer, piece of wood, crescent wrench, etc. and see if that "reset" the valve from open to closed. 1/2 - after having a similar problem for the past couple of years - as with your case my problem would come and go - I got serious about sticking my nose very close to all of the places from which these kinds of odors emanate. Not being able to locate the source, I too was about to give up and bring in the troops. But, early in this year's 2 month western fly fishing trip my Mr. Buddy propane heater ran out of propane. So, as per usual I picked it up (its normal location while I'm camping at altitude is either just outside the bath door or just inside the bath door on the shower pan) but before I was able to unscrew the used propane bottle I noticed a fairly strong scent of gas. Of course I then screwed in a new bottle but later that day I again picked up the heater and again noticed the same smell. Long story short - this was the source of my problem all along. Good luck with the valve "reset". Bill

  15. Got it. Hopefully someone else will chime in with a fix. Hang in there as there are no problems only solutions! A famous quote by?😊 Having exhausted all other possibilities, I do think you may want to check that vent pipe. It may save you a call to the mothership.

  16. Yep - Looks like 5 to me too. Bill p.s. I suspect that somewhere alone the line Mr. Oliver decided that given the weight he was adding to the Beast, he should upgrade to 5 leaves from the original 4 leaves. However, the pictures I recently posted are valid for the Beast as recently as 3 weeks ago.

  17. Perhaps a little dab of E6000 on those tabs and then a couple of strips of painters tape to hole everything in place for 24 hours while the E6000 dries would take care to the issue while still allowing for removal if necessary? Bill

  19. I only torqued the Ubolts this morning. @500 mile mark check Spring wet bolts, they should be good with the HD nyloc nuts. Alcan will provide a very detailed work sheet when you have the springs installed. 👍🏻

  20. Thanks! 👍🏻😊 I like the 2 1/2” HD shackles. In fact I like just about everything HD or over engineered. Glad I got this spring/shackle upgrade completed.✅ The Team at Alcan are top shelf!

  22. Nice. I will talk to you when we are together to discuss the torquing. I'm a bit confused looking at the drawing. I'm sure when it gets explained to us by Alcan it will make sense.

  23. This morning we had the 5 leaf pack installed on Hull #634 XPLOR at the Alcan shop here in Grand Junction, CO. We had an excellent experience from start to finish. We opted for the upgraded heavier duty wet bolts, nyloc nuts, Alcan HD 2 1/2” shackles. Our Monroe shocks are still in good shape with less than 2500 miles on them. Over all very happy with the work performed by Tucker at Alcan, he has installed the custom 5 leaf pack on a number of Olivers. Lew the owner was excellent to deal with and explained everything in detail. If you have questions about the install, parts or pricing, give Lew a call. Now we can get on with our trip to Utah, Wyoming and maybe Montana. Onward & Safe Travels! Drop off early morning - yes we hit the loves to top off with diesel, saving 76 cents per gallon with our TDS Open Roads Fleet card. We love LOVES. Ha! Thanking Lew 2.5 hrs later after the new leaf packs were installed. Gotta have a little swag.. Decal swag - Optional upgraded wet bolts. Torque specs -

  25. Finally, leaf springs do not hit the Easy-Flex. Installed the 2 1/2 in shackles Lew sent me without difficulty. Two jacks, 13/16 socket, 11/16 socket, 13/16 wrench, 3/8 and 1/2 in torque wrench, hammer, vise, Impact wrench, wrags, and LockNLube grease gun. I know I was 2 out 1500 on the coupler issue but I can't believe that I am the only one this was happening to after upgrading to the ALCAN springs. Happy that I did not cut them to fit and theoretically the increase in 1/2 in shackle length should lower the camper by the same. So the first pull up the driveway will be the test but I did cut off about 1/2 in of bolt length on the back of the bike rack to make up difference. Again, just happy that everything is back together and working. Looking forward to fall trip and going on the ALCAN eventually! Best, Mike BEFORE AFTER
