I saw my first spruce grouse ever this week in Two Medicine GNP. I thought it was a ptarmigan but the ranger corrected me. You see ptarmigan don’t visit that area. He added that the NPS had just finished a study on ptarmigan camouflage in the wild. Of all the adaptations in wildlife, silent p is the most rare. 😁3 points

So, do you climb up and deploy the starlink mini each time you use it?2 points

I also did the POE injector method for powering the Mini. As far as mounting I initially had it on top of my flagpole but the ended up being a problem with the cable and the flags getting bunched up. This is my current method for mounting on the Oliver. It has been working great so far. Links below. Yeah, it’s pretty simple. I’m 6 feet tall so I just stand on the Oliver ‘bumper” to attach it. I put it together on the ground and once it is attached I fire it up and let it sort itself out. Once it has figured its position I just reach up and align it.1 point

Thanks for the idea! I should do a magnet mount version, since I have power and Ethernet wired to the top of our tow vehicle. Our router is inside the TV too. @SeaDawg raised one issue and the back of the Oliver is not level, so you have the get the mount angle to the north of course, and at the same time the angle off the horizon must be the same as the Mini kick-stand. Your mount has great flexibility but likely would take climbing up there a few times to get the proper angle. Thanks again and best wishes.1 point

The power for the brake disconnect, and the LP/CD detector, comes directly off the battery with no fuse on the brakes. I believe they are connected to the line side of one or both of the main breakers. The jacks, and the 12 volt panel are powered via the 60 amp main breaker, and the inverter from the 300 amp main breaker. If you switch-off both breakers, then you have effectively turned off 99% of the parasite loads (exception is the LP/CD detector). However, the solar panels, brake disconnect, and the LP/CD detector will remain in service, which I think are good things. The breakers are also there to protect the circuit in case of a fault. I think a solar disconnect switch is necessary, as I explained earlier in this thread. But I think a main battery switch is redundant, and only useful to someone who knows where it is. Fire departments will just cut the battery cables if there is a fire concern. It's perfectly okay to have one, but they introduce unwanted circuit resistance due to more terminations, contacts, and wire. Hope this provides a better perspective! Cheers! Geoff1 point

@johnwen, your guess was correct. The switch mounted on the forward basement wall connects to what had been a spare circuit on the fuse block via a junction. Three wires are connected by a Wago lever connector: wire from switch wire to the Mini Router wire to the fuse block If you used the same lighted rocker switch as I did, it has three wires, one smaller than the other two. This small wire needs power for the LED light in the switch. Don1 point

Thanks, Don, I have the Rj46 pass though, lighted wall switch and POE injector mounted and have the backside of the passthrough connected to the POE injector. I'm going to attempt wiring everything together today. I am easily intimidated with wiring things up and wish I had a simple diagram to follow showing connections, but I think I understand enough to keep myself out of trouble...big ha ha! I don't have a second router yet (probably will be a router mini) but I'll wire it in later. Wish me lots of luck :) John1 point
