  1. There has been quite a bit of interest in a Maine gathering. It has slowed since the government here has limited the numbers that can gather. I am sure the weather has played a part too. A casual count has placed at least 10 Olivers in southern/ midcoast Maine. I can't think of any that have a Maine symbol, but we have not seen all of the newer ones, though we know they are out there. Thinking we might have to be careful about having a gathering. Once when mentioned some from Mass. wanted to be included. Then a Missouri based one said "Please include me". Next was a Casita owner wanted to join in, ( and there are Scamps around). The Oliver factory said they would help with logos and stuff. Next thing you know, we would have a full blown Rally. And everybody wants to go to Acadia and eat lobster. Where do you think we could all gather? And how many would show up?
  2. Just went outside. Last nights snow is almost gone. Found two dandelion blossums on the lawn. Get your wax ready...
  3. Welcome from hull #211. Agree that Robin and crew at 'Banana Banners' does a fine job, and are creative and friendly folks. Real easy to work with. ( probably help get the old one off?). With the state outline and the lobster you should be great. I find with my design folks "from away" and while out of state, people know where we are from. However in state, especially up north, with the state outline and the state seal and color, we have been mistaken for the State Police Crime Lab. As they hide inside you can see the curtains flutter...lol. Where is your "home port"? If you want to talk about the trailer or need a hand, be sure to reach out. We are not that far away from Brunswick. I think now we have on the high side of over 10 within 30 miles of here. A side note: the 54 Chevy will not haul the Oliver, it's only 6 volt...
  4. Sounds to me maybe a tank top and shorts, with flip flops, while commando, means less to wash??
  5. I thought maybe a used AS was the way to go. Some of the ads said the floors had been repaired, or maybe only one or two soft spots. Whoa. Started looking at the floors. All exposed to the elements was particle board. Yuck! Then somebody said what they were charged to polish. Eight hours a foot, times how much an hour? Then an Oliver was mentioned. We researched, visited the factory, ordered new. Only seven foot wide, so can see down both sides with standard mirrors. None of that shaking from extended mirrors. High ground clearance. Can wash and wax with spray on Maquires. Only real downside? People will follow you for miles to get a look at your Oliver!
  6. Was traveling solo, to eventually meet up with the spouse in 10 days or so! Some where, can't remember where, there was a city park type place. An old stone mill building, by a stream, with a turning water wheel. Lots of grass with gravel pull outs. Split rail fence. Half an hour at a picnic table eating supper, and then an eight hour nap. Would like to go back! It was late winter/early Spring. You could tell, and smell, the grass wanted to start growing. Two nights south, out of Maine, at least the roads were paved, but not all had yellow lines...
  7. Love it. Bet it would sell in the Oliver Owners Store. Nice to look at, and take Home, after touring the plant and placing an order. Something to "Show and Tell" while waiting. A buy with the hat, mug, and vest...
  8. Welcome from Maine. Remember the trip, as well as the destination, is part of the adventure...!
  9. Now to paint the Oliver black, and put the "Bat Signal" on front?
  10. Happy New Year.... May the roads less traveled be open to us all!
  11. Welcome from Maine. Of all the options I don't believe there is a 'camper stretcher'. Is the bed in the Elite I wide enough for a "Longstride"? As the bed goes side to side as opposed the to 'for and aft' for the Elite II. Plus the panty and extra drawers provide some real nice storage for extended remote stays. At 23.5' the Elite II is still shorter that most pop-ups today and with the higher ground clearance will fit where most campers won't. Of course depends on tow vehicle too. Merry Christmas!
  12. Our 12v powers a CPAP machine. We found using the 12v cord a lot more energy efficient than running the inverter. The inverter also consumes power...
  13. Where is there an outside 12v outlet?
  14. Ours has the solar with 4 wet 6V batteries. We have not plugged in at home, since bringing it home 4 years ago. It is always charged up and ready to go. It has given tours, acted as a TV room, a reading room, and an occasional guest room. You would never know it wasn't plugged in (AC is not often needed in Maine). A remote CG on Moosehead Lake runs on a generator for an hour, three times a day. With the solar you never know, or really care, whether the generator is on or not. Went for a solo trip once that lasted 8 days. Never plugged in once. (The best night was alongside an old stone mill with a turning waterwheel). As you might guess, our vote is for solar. We don't have a plug for a suitcase, or a need to run AC. But it still works in the winter. Runs the blower for propane heat, and gives us light.
  15. Don't forget to get "permission" to use a dollar store picinic table cover. Easier to slide around on, when under the trailer. Also you don't leave any unwanted grease residue laying around for the next site visitor. All said and done..I don't find the grease task all that difficult. Guess the hardest part is trying to get up, after laying down to grease, or maybe deciding whether or not I can get under the axle or I should go around?
  16. Question for QuestionMark? Do you have a big ? on the front of your unit?
  17. Welcome from Maine. You so will enjoy the "hard side". Come in from a hike, soaked and chilled due to a sudden snow squall or thunder monsoon, turn on the heat. Take a hot shower, cook a hot meal, get into a warm bed; no fluttering canvas or water dripping on your nose. Just be prepared, as you are sitting outside, enjoying a fire, to have folks stop by and ask about your camper. (It happens at rest areas too). It is kind of amazing where it will fit, being narrow as your tow vehicle. It is shorter than most pop ups. The sights you will see, as you travel further a field. Take pictures and a log book...
  18. Have not covered since bringing home in 2017. Have seen no adverse problems. We do use Maquires Wash and Wax as part of our winterization process. Three reasons we have not used: we have seen wind take covers and tie downs flutter enough that they have worn through the finish. We have seen where the cover was snowed and iced in preventing the camper from moving in a late winter/early Spring excursion, unless cut off. The solar panel still works with some ice and snow on it. Very little humidity in northern climes. We tried a tub of DampRid (it was given to us). It did accumulate some. We have to assume it was early and/or late season. We did spend and hour or two in there here and there. Maybe our breathe?
  19. Actually a Mainer owned and staffed ultra fine Italian shotgun store... Coles Gunsmithing. Worth a visit..
  20. Nope, not on payroll. Do like to mention a small business, off the main road, that does a fantastic job. Just nice to see a business that can make an artist idea and design come to life.
  21. Nicely done. Looks great. Special touch swimming through the turbulent side graphics, AND making it!
  22. I carry a 30 to 15 adapter with a circuit tester plugged into that. It rides in the door pocket of the TV. It gets plugged into every pedestal. I learned to do this at a campground. A lady said she didn't have any power in her camper. The breaker at her box wasn't tripped, but reset anyway. Went to her sub panel (at request of CG) and that breaker was ok. On to the main panel. That was ok. Back to the camper. Found out she had plugged into the pedestal, but had failed to connect the cord to her camper. The adapter device would have saved a lot of frustration and walking. There was correct power at the pedestal. We have the portable Progressive EMS. It was the only option when we got our 2017 Oliver. Remember we have already checked the outlet before unhooking and setting up. The EMS gets plugged in. The dancing lights gives us all the info we need, a 'one stop shop'. We don't have to get up and go anywhere. One caution: the dancing lights get noticed by curious passer-bys. Some are just curious by what the dancing lights are. We use a cable lock, designed to secure a pistol, to lock the EMS to the pedestal. Next to figure out is how to secure the cable to the box. More pistol locks? Just don't want either to get "borrowed"...
  23. You mean this evolution thing never stops??
  24. It would be nice to have the display inside the basement door, so it can be seen while hooking up? Then you wouldn't have to go around and go inside? Is the display waterproof? Could it be mounted against a window?
  25. So so agree! These awning lights remind me of the midway at County Fairs or a Marquee. NOT a camping experience. I may have to try the yellow film on the light near the door. Would a red film preserve your night vision like on a boat better, and be less of a distraction to yourself and any neighbors. If I need lights that is what flashlights and lanterns are for. It is called 'Camping' after all, not hotel ing!
