  1. Our home electronic locks give a low battery warning a few days before the batteries actually die. Is that not a feature on the electronic rv lock? Disappointing.
  2. In another unrelated thread, @MAX Burner brought up the idea of the relatively new Nomadic 12v ac unit as a possible upgrade to his trailer. Unlike the Dometic 12v ac, this one fits in the industry standard 14 x 14 opening. Runs directly on 12v, no inverter necessary. It's more expensive than comparable Houghton (what we have) but relatively quiet, very efficient, and runs directly from battery power, 12v. Has anyone seen one in person? And, importantly, heard it? https://nomadicsupply.com/nomadic-cooling-x3-camper-van-air-conditioner/?attribute_pa_exterior-color=black-ripstop&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAtt2tBhBDEiwALZuhAFXBEbtCmjNVSFgPvJI4CQkisC2N42rSn6As7vae9b-G3Y1XOrDHGBoCRIEQAvD_BwE First video is a comparison with a traditional 110 dometic, power consumption and temp coming out of ac.
  3. Your rear window is likely double pane. The clips, as photoed, appear to be wide/ created for double pane. In Florida, I'd have taken the mess to Suncoast Design. I'm sorry for your troubles. I don't have your windows, so I'd open a ticket, and ask for installation instruction manual, specifically. Possibly just shims. The clips served a purpose, at some point. Best of luck to you.
  4. For those of you who've never seen the inside of a first gen Elite, here's a photo of the infamous "stripper pole." It's quite helpful as a handhold if you're the person sleeping next to the hull, climbing over your sleeping spouse, to get to the lav in the middle of the night. We had many jokes about it, back in the day. (Apologies for the thread drift, @Ronbrink)
  5. @Nancy_D, Grumble and twist haven't dropped by the forum in a few years. Might try a pm, with a link to the thread.
  6. Have you tried removing the offending drawer, and resetting, with @John E Davies instructions? If you've done that, correctly, then you have a different problem. Blum does use some orange covers, but if the slides are Blum, you'll see their stamp somewhere, probably on slides themselves. Do yourself a favor, and do open a ticket, as @John Dorrer suggested, after you've tried removing and reinstallation. We've always received good response to tickets opened. And, gives both you and service documentation trail to follow. I have a love/hate relationship with self closers. When they work, awesome. Definitely not so easy to remove and reinstall as typical drawer slides. Blum is my hardware of choice.
  7. I never got that email. Interesting.
  8. @Steph and Dud B, I have used that same ladder for a number of years to access my upper kitchen cabinets (I can only reach the bottom row), cleaning ceiling fans, decorating the Christmas tree. It's light, sturdy, and stable, indoors, and doesn't take up a lot of room in my cleaning closet. I liked it so much we bought one for our daughter. Let me know how you like using it outdoors.
  9. Well, surprise, surprise. Here's one for rent on outdoorsy, in California. (He also rents out an Airstream. ) https://www.outdoorsy.com/rv-rental/woodland-hills_ca/2023_oliver_legacy-elite-ii_357251-listing
  10. Truth is, we humans generally find extreme discomfort in change. Big or small, change is a challenge. Let's give the new plan time to grow, and mature. Oliver is no longer the fledgling company we took a big fly on in early 2008. The family management is smart, careful, and I'm sure they've thought this process through, very carefully. I'm rooting for them, and all of us future and current owners who can benefit.
  11. To my knowledge, Escape is still factory direct only. Bigfoot has dealers (they call them "outlets" ) scattered all over the US, including Alaska, and most of the provinces bordering the US. (Nothing in Saskatchewan or Manitoba, nor northern provinces and territories, probably because of smaller populations?) Northern Lite has probably twice as many dealers, both in Canada and US. A few dealers west of the Rockies would be a big boon for Ollie owners, I'm sure.
  12. People following behind you don't "know" that you're dumping clean water. They might just think the worst (black water.) Easy enough, for me, to dump clean water in the yard, at home.
  13. For those of us with sometimes lengthy power outages, a whole home generator or big battery backup definitely make sense. Here in SW Florida, it's a selling point. Do make sure, if you buy the genset, that it has the automatic test feature. I know several friends with older systems that couldn't start their generator when needed. Sticky carburetor, dead start battery, etc. (Mark calendar for battery replacement.)
  14. I think the regional shows will be bigger advantages to the dealers. At the huge (80,000 plus attendees) Tampa show, most manufacturers have assistance (or vice versa) from the local dealers. Obviously, you want to spend the big bucks marketing to your own area.
  15. I don't "cringe," but I prepare myself for hours of diagrams, conversations, research and ordering, hours of installation, etc... Much more fun with upgrades than repairs, for sure.
  16. Nor do I want to drag a "home" behind me. We bought the Ollie to camp. We did not want to drive or drag a rolling "billboard" through the winds. It's definitely not fun. Been there, done that, and done with it, 16 years ago. It's actually kind of amazing, but we spend close to six months, some years, in the space of my walk-in closet. Well, not actually. The outdoors is huge, where we really live.
  17. You could just fill the 14 x 14 opening with a low profile, inexpensive roof vent. Remove the manual operator handle. I actually thought about doing this, as we rarely use ac, when we swapped the Dometic for the small Houghton.
  18. @Steve Morris, sounds like you two are doing a "springs" themed tour of Florida... I think you've mentioned three so far! We have so many beautiful springs (21 of our Florida state parks contain springs) that i haven't seen them all... Bill Belleville wrote an amazing essay on Blue Springs. He was an amazing writer, Florida naturalist. Glad you are enjoying your time here. Best time of the year to see the manatees!
  19. Way back in the day, in our family's less complicated trailers and motorhome, winterizing in Minnesota was blowing out the lines. Thanks for the memories.
  20. In Minnesota, back in the day, we'd just camp winterized. Some of my friends who routinely travel south in the winter just leave their trailers winterized, and work with water jugs. Dewinterize when way south of the Mason-Dixon. That would be my (risk averse) choice. Plus, easier to work on sanitizing/flushing in the warmth, in a comfy campsite with full hookups.
  21. Tastes like chicken, right? My uncle tried to convince me of that....
  22. After a week of power outages after Hurricane Irma, sharing our 3000 watt Yamaha with the neighbors to keep a fridge, some fans and lights in each home, and our gas water heater going, we ordered battery backup for our solar-powered home. It powers one a/c unit, most of the first level of our home, and essential services, like the oven and microwave, one washing machine, and many other outlets in the workshop. (Yes, the kegerator is powered.) You will really enjoy it. Ours changes over so quickly I often don't know we've had an outage, until I check the app. Really came in handy two weeks ago, when a transformer blew on our street, and I had 30 people coming for a baby shower brunch at 10 am! No one knew, until they saw the Duke trucks in the neighborhood.
  23. I dub you first, in the south. Please step up and accept your prize. 🍺 PS, hope you actually didn't lose power for long.
  24. I'll apologize for our cold weather during your visit. (I blame it on my brother in-law. He almost always brings rain and cool weather with him from Western New York.) If you have time, there's a cool and crazy kind of restaurant just about a mile or so from Silver Springs Park-- Mojo's. Usually a fun experience.
