Opening Up Storage Space Under Bath Sink...
SeaDawg replied to MAX Burner's topic in Ollie Modifications
Suction cups change capacity at altitude, and high temps, in our experience No problem 0 to 3500 elevation. We have a number of fixtures with the "red ring. " works well . You can always try command strips. -
Opening Up Storage Space Under Bath Sink...
SeaDawg replied to MAX Burner's topic in Ollie Modifications
I have several suction cup baskets on our bath wall that are 15 years old. How are yours mounted? -
You have many more state campsites, I think, in Texas, than Florida. Where I live, pretty much straight south on i75 and i95, coastal, is Canadian and northern visitor heaven. Don't get me wrong. We love our seasonal visitors. But, it does stink that we also can't get weekend reservations with kids to introduce them to camping. The times we've camped in popular state parks have been few. Booked ahead, or midweek. For us, not a tragedy, as winter is also sailing season. We don't care so much. But for our daughter, trying to get the little guy out camping on a free weekend is difficult to impossible, without traveling to the hinterlands. There are always places. Just not an hour's drive away. That's important for young families, with limited time.

Wow! Great installation. Hats (or baseball caps😄) off to you! Looking forward to a photo of the drinking glass holder install, as well. Have fun on your trip, and, please, watch the fire/smoke maps, en route.

Lithium Now vs wait for lower cost
SeaDawg replied to Sofaman's topic in Welcome to the Oliver Forums
If you never use your Oliver, honestly, put it up at a fair price, and let someone else enjoy a beautiful trailer. Few people actually "need" lithium, but many, many folks benefit from them. We still use agm. But, honestly, I'd rather install my own, than wonder about the prior care and maintenance, and installation, if I were buying a used trailer. Unless you need to replace your current batteries, I'd kick the can down the road. Buy a nice, quiet inverter generator that will run your a/c, and call it done. Especially if you're waffling on keeping the Ollie. You can always keep the genset for other uses. My opinion. Others will vary. -
has anyone tried the new Dometic fresh jet 2200?
SeaDawg replied to Roadlotus's topic in Ollie Modifications
I see that, now. Is it really almost 4000 watts to run it? Or is there some iso formula I don't know? They claim an eer of 8.2, so that would be more like 1650 watts running at 95 degrees? Which would be awesome. -
The Roadrunner (Hull #364) is at its new home

Welcome, and congrats. Looks great with your truck, too! -

That's a very good point. Has anyone seen the USA specs yet? Seems there are differences with the European and Australian units ( no heat in USA unit.) -
Our personal experience: Several of us installed maceration pumps in our Elites, back in the day. Paul rebuilt the first one when it failed (🫣) , installed a new one a year later, and we removed it a year later. Out of the two pumps, I think we got three, maybe three and a half years. Then, we gave it up and went back to a good quality black hose. Probably will work better for you, since you're not bouncing it down the road in the small space of the bumper compartment. Flush it out well with fresh water, when finished, obviously. Btw, not had a problem dumping in our septic, over the years. And, many/most rv dumps are either septic or pump-outs vaults. The maceration pump is very helpful, though, if the tank is a great distance from parking pad. That was the original reason for our pump. When we built the new house, we put a dump port by the parking pad.

Discount Tire refuses to sell me LT tires for my trailer
SeaDawg replied to John E Davies's topic in General Discussion
I "think" when I checked with our Costco, they would mount if I brought in the tires and rims, but they can't accomodate the trailer. That was five years ago, or so, and I haven't checked back since. I've had that "bring in the rims and we'll mount your new tires thing" done at Sam's and Walmart, for the boat trailer and other small trailers . We take the Oliver to a local independent tire shop. He sells good tires, does a nice job at a fair price. Quality ST tires have come a long way. We have run on ST tires for 150k miles, and 16 seasons. No reason for us to change upnow, imo. -
Our Oliver Galley gets a new 3 quart insta pot.
SeaDawg replied to Patriot's topic in General Discussion
That reads very much like a truly fabulous soup from one of my favorite St. Pete restaurants, Bellabrava. The fennel and seasonings in the sausage flavors everything. They boil the starchy potatoes (russets) in the broth. No dairy, no thickener, just the starch from the potatoes. Thanks for sharing. I'll skip the half and half. (I asked for the recipe, that was declined, but several questions answered.) -
YouTube Video Series Tips/Organization/Products for the Oliver.
SeaDawg replied to Katjo's topic in Introduce Yourself
That's a good price, too, @Katjo. Same stuff at walmart or auto store is much more expensive, but still cheaper than gouged hands... We used similar back in the day on our propane cowl. Paid more at autozone. -
Quite true. All the rvs we've delivered to Alaska had indoor switches, gas and electric, by the door . We have an indoor switch in our 2008, for the 12v dc igniter, only, inconveniently located under the bed. I tape over it, so we don't accidentally hit the switch with one of the storage bins we keep under the bed. The resoning may be that folks will hit the switch on a dry water heater, and burn it out . I don't know. If we camped regularly with hookups , I'd want that switch We don't, so never thought about it til now. Thanks.

While cleaning a composting bathroom...
SeaDawg replied to nrvale0's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
A 2" knockout test plug might also work. Idk We have standard toilet. Don't know what the depth I'd beneath the nature's head. If in doubt, there's always duct tape, which we all have -
Need to replace the slider in the curbside window
SeaDawg replied to nrvale0's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
If it's fogging (broken seal between panes) you can take your trailer to a service center and have the windows pulled,,resealed, and done. We had three big windows done at Suncoast Desgin in Hudson FL for about $1200. lifetime warranty, and great folks. There are services like this around the country. Google "rv window fogging repair" and your area. The bath window may be cheaper to just replace. It's so small. -
So, we bought the Pioneer 520. Got lucky that one popped up with our sales rep in Florida. (Original guy ordered it, decided too small, bought a bigger CanAm) We lucked out. Towed it up to WNC. This weekend, we added winch, bumper, windshield, mirrors, and roof over the rollover cage. Swapped wheels and tires from the Axis, bigger and badder, but same bolt pattern, just to check the ride with bigger tires.. (Slightly different offset.). 🤣 Fun little machine. We'll put it to work.

We spent the day maintaining our trails on our camping property in WNC, deleting invasive species. Last year, we spent the first Saturday In June at a forest conservation program, followed by a long hike through game Conservation and restoration area. The weather in western North Carolina had been amazing the last few days. We also celebrated the start of the day with a campfire breakfast. Awesome to share the day with friends. (I ate the egg with the broken yolk. 😋) not pictured, amazing breakfast sausage from Lidl, cooked on hot dog cookers. It was great!

Small 3" Shelf when Dinette Converted to Bed
SeaDawg replied to Coddiwomple's topic in Ollie Modifications
Nice idea. Others have done the under table storage mod. I probably would have used wood, as our older skin is "thin," plus wood is very easy to work with. Maybe even just buy some picture rail, like this. Thanks for including all the components. Very helpful. -
Repositioning Water Pump Switch/LED in the Head...
SeaDawg replied to MAX Burner's topic in Ollie Modifications
Nice mod. In our vintage 2008, we don't have a water pump switch in the bath. Then again, in an Elite I, you can "almost" reach the main switch from the bath. I think Oliver started installing the bath switch because several owners modded theirs, as you did. Good on you for using a marine grade, booted switch, and I really like the protected placement. 😃 -
Maybe do a search for dimmable touch lights puck. I came up with this. I'm sure there are more. We have certain essential lights on our boat, both dimmable and color changing (red doesn't interfere as much with night vision when sailing). Replace a few, turn the rest off, is what I'd do.

We've used a bulldog collar, towing or not, plus a ball type lock while camped, for 16 seasons. More locks to defeat, more time needed for the jerk... Some people also deploy locks or chains on wheels. We don't.
-
Good idea.

Keep your carry list as short as possible, as @AlbertNTerri suggested, imo. Whatever you being, make sure you know how to use it. There's so much to learn about your new Oliver, you don't need another "learning curve" thrown into the mix. We camped one night near new owners. Their suv was so chockablock full, they couldn't find breakfast supplies, coffee maker, or paper plates. Way too much. Label bins with contents. Pack the bins so stuff you'll need the first night is easily accessible. (Bedding, clothes for a few days, towels, meds, entry mat, rugs, bulldog collar lock, pot and pan, dishes/paper plates, silverware, bottle of champagne, etc.) If your TV is a pickup, as many of us use, carry a foldable two step footstool and a boathook or similar to pull stuff forward. Saves some aggravation. As @Patriotsaid, try EVERY button and system before you leave Oliver, or a close-by park . Even if it's 95, make sure you run the heater, and know how. If it's 32 degrees, don't skip the step of testing ac. You may want to just treat yourself to dinner out the first night. Most of the restaurants in Hohenwald are surprisingly good, for a little town. And Hohenwald people have been very friendly and nice to us, over the years.
