What happened? Get it unstuck? Bill

Sorry - this was not a dash camera. Basically it is just a add on camera mainly used (I think) for rear facing cameras. I just tried to extend its range (too far) and reduce the number of screens I had in the cockpit via having the signal feed into the Garmin. Patriot is the only person I know that has the Garmin dashcam. Bill

I've got the Garmin 890 and tried the Garmin camera with it. After installing the camera on the back of the Oliver, I ran the transmitter as far forward (with an extension cable) as I could get it - to the cubbie above the microwave. I did this because Garmin states that the distance from the rear of the Oliver to the front of the cab of my F-150 is too far for the transmitter. While the camera did work - it tended to cut in and out while on the road. In turn, this causes the screen on the 890 to change from the road map to the rear camera view whenever it senses that the camera turns on/off (i.e. cuts in or out). To be fair here - note that these cameras operate on very low voltage. My use of an extension cable could have caused enough voltage drop such that this is what caused the "cutting in/out". Therefore, I dismantled the entire arrangement and now have a camera just sitting down in the workshop waiting for my next idea. Bill

Two Day Old Owners In Fisherville, KY
topgun2 replied to Tony and Rhonda's topic in Introduce Yourself
Congrats! By this time next year you will be really ready to see what others have done and be able to show off things that you've thought of. Welcome to the Family and don't forget to look over the Oliver University as well as the wealth of knowledge and mods that are here on the Forum. Bill -
As far as I know - Garmin does not produce a "satellite phone". I can send SOS messages, and, email type messages. It also maps where I've been and am currently located, shows and store places on a map that I designate, and proposed trails, fishing spots, sight seeing spots, etc. Bill p.s. the mini's primary function is to get assistance to you if you need it by whatever means is necessary.

You're more than welcome. Now, there are three things additional you must do: 1 -activate your new Mini 2 by selecting the "Garmin plan" that suits you. 2 - remember to keep it with you when you fish, hike, travel. 3 - remember to turn it on - if you have it "plugged" in to a power supply, it will automatically power off when it it senses that the power supply has been turned off. For example - I have a USB plug in the truck that I have my Garmin Mini plugged into while I travel. When I stop at a rest area or gas station or .... and turn the truck off, the Garmin will shut itself off automatically. Then when I get back on the road I have to remember to turn the Garmin back on. This is not a big deal but you do have to remember to do it or the tracking function will not be tracking you. Bill

That's why they call it "fishing" and not "catching"? Unfortunately, those fish get hit so hard by so many fishermen that they are very well educated (PHD level). There are many streams in the Yellowstone area (both inside and outside the Park) that are not as well known but do provide excellent fishing opportunities. Bill

Don't miss the Yankee Fork which feeds into the Salmon River. Trout Unlimited and others have done a good job on restoring the Yankee Fork. A tour of the Dredge (GPS: 44.377737, -114.72268) is in order while here and so is the ghost town of Custer (GPS: 44.38767, -114.69656). Pole Flat Campground (GPS: 44.30335, -114.72012) is fine with water and pit toilets - the best sites at at the northeast (top) corner of the looped campground road (Forest Service Road 40369). The last pic below is the hot springs just west of Yankee Fork Road right on the Salmon River (free).

I use the Garmin InReach Mini. When I'm out fishing or hiking I simply clip it to the top of my fishing vest or day pack. When combined with a cell phone (with or without cell service) I can see exactly where I am on a topo map. Garmin has come out with a never version of mine called the Mini2 - HERE. There are models that have maps and other features right in the unit but I wanted to be as small and light as possible. Bill P.s. While on the road I use the USB connection and place the Mini on my dash. Using the maps that Garmin provides plus Google maps my wife and a couple of close friends can not only see where I'm located but they can (using Google maps) see the stream I'm fishing or trail I'm hiking.

Rear Electric Stabilizer Jack adjustment - help?
topgun2 replied to tallmandan's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
OTT DOES fabricate these mounting plates "in-house". There were a couple of earlier models (in the low 100's hull numbers) where the welds did fail and Oliver both repaired these and changed the way these brackets were manufactured. Bill -
In my opinion - if you are going to spend virtually any time in the out of doors and/or where cell phone service can't be guaranteed then (if you can afford it) having one of these satellite communication devices is not a luxury but a necessity. Most of these can be used for many functions in addition to their SOS feature. These include: messaging, real time tracking by friends and loved ones, trip planning, "bread crumb trails", weather, etc. I spend the better part of two months each year in relatively remote places fishing and hiking - usually alone. Certainly it is comforting to know that I can get help in the event of a medical emergency and I can let my wife know that all is OK. I must admit however that I never considered many of the uses that are noted in the report above. In addition, during the hurricane Helene back in October, 2024 we were without telephone and internet for about 5 days (many others had it much worse) and the only communication that we had with the outside world was via our satellite communication device. We also (now) always carry it with us when going on trips in the event we have a vehicle or other issue. Bill p.s. No, I do not own stock in Garmin nor any other of these companies.😁

Each year Garmin provides a "year in review" which shows the kinds of activities, places, reasons for users asking for help, etc. for users of the Garmin InReach satellite rescue device. There a number of these types of devices on the market, but this report by Garmin highlights some of the reasons for using any of these. The Garmin report can be viewed HERE. Bill

I too have been using a dashcam for a number of years now - so many years that (as far as I know) they didn't produce a camera that used anything but the cig lighter for power unless you wired it to a hot and negative yourself. However, there are a couple of things to be on the lookout for. I got both the dash and rearview cameras and with this there is almost a 360 degree of the vehicle. Make sure that you get a fairly big memory card for your dashcam. Having a "parking mode" (this is when you are parked the camera still records) is very helpful for things like someone trying to break into the vehicle when you are not there or if you are hit in a parking lot. GPS integrated into the dashcam can be a blessing and/or a curse - it will show speed and location. Certainly this is helpful IF you are doing the speed limit at the time a problem is recorded. My camera does not have an interior view but I've read that this view can be helpful in the event you are the victim and have to go to court. Good luck choosing in that there are a ton of these cameras on the market. Bill p.s. mine is branded as Apeman for what its worth.

Awning wire sheathing deteriorating from sun exposure
topgun2 replied to johnwen's topic in General Discussion
Have you tried contacting the awning company about this? Good luck! Bill p.s. a spray of Aerospace 303 Protectant every now and then might help slow down this problem too. -
A couple of members (like Patriot) have used a small foam kneeling pad like THIS. Bill

I've noticed that you have not received any replies to your question. Perhaps others are having a bit of the same difficulty that I'm having in understanding exactly what you are having trouble with. Pictures might help. Which Ollie do you have to include the year and floor plan. Have you tried a bit of WD-40 or anything else of that nature? Bill
