Buffalo National Grasslands is about 6 mi south of wall...park right on the edge of a cliff 🙂 Boondocking of course.

Great spot - unless it is windy.

There's not exactly a bunch of things near the Badlands to block or even slow down the wind.

That wind comes down off the mountains to the west and can really blow.

I've been there when it is calm (relatively) and not crowded.  It is a special place at both sunrise and sundown.

From my experience, don’t leave anything outside without an anchor that’s bigger than you think you need.

Even worse April-May. Remember camping near Moab where we could not grill outside, nor want to sit outside. Find campsites with lots of junipers to block the wind.

Wind is created from the mix of hot and cold air which is a given out here, where just a few miles away the elevation is 3-4000 higher or lower. We had a calm day today, likely because the stratus clouds kept the heat down. Enjoy the calm days! Was a great day and now ready to leave on our trip!

We did an overnight at Gun Creek, COE in Benton, IL. $9 electric only with our America the Beautiful pass and it worked perfect. We enjoyed dinner at the Gun Creek Golf Course Club House and followed up with breakfast this morning.

We made pretty good time east bound and are now in a KOA in Crossville, Tenn. Pretty nice digs for a KOA overnighter. Naturally we haaaaaad to make a stop a the Buc-ees here. YUM!! Ha! This Buc-ees sells diesel too at $3.04 a gal, not bad.

Gun Creek COE. We have never been so happy to see trees again!

Buc-ees in Crossville, Tenn is much smaller than the Sevierville, Tenn super store. We still got our Buc-ees fix! 😋Ha!

Safe Travels and Happy Camping All!

We’ve stayed at Gun Creek, nice campground.  Cumberland Mountain State Park in Crossville has a nice campground, especially area 5.  Buc-ee’s usually has the lowest price gas and diesel, we usually stop.  We’re getting a Buc-ee’s here in little old Boerne Texas on I-10 in a year or so.  Mike

We enjoy the sensory overload of a Buc-eyes stop. 😳😂We have been using our Open Roads fleet card for diesel top offs when we can and have not found anyone lower in price. How about that Buc-ees Brisket? 😛

We have been known to order a pound of brisket, set it on the console and much away while driving.  It can be a little messy but they do a good brisket at Buc-ee’s.  Just pick up a few extra napkins.  Mike

We brought (2) large brisket sandwiches home with us from the Crossville, Tenn Buc-ees in our frig. That will be our lunch today! 😛Gotta get out back and give XPLOR good detailing on this cool 54 degree morning.

Landed at Rivers Edge CG in Cherokee County, Murphy, NC. Concrete pad, F/H and a nice place to overnight on our way to LGSP. It’s good to be back on the road and traveling again. Tomorrow onward to Lake Guntersville SP. See ya at the Rally!

Nothing like the beauty of Western North Carolina! 🤩

Safe Travels!

Arrived at LGSP today after a leisurely drive from Murphy, NC. Beautiful weather and we really enjoyed the Trail of Tears route. As always the check in staff  here were super nice. I think we counted 6 0r 7 Olivers here in the park on this evenings walk. The security gate as you enter the park is not working so no pass code to enter for now.

First true boondocking adventure for us this weekend for our shakedown. No reservations and just showing up to see what we could find. We lucked out to find only us with a spot next to the river in a bird sanctuary. Thank you Army COE!

To be honest, I never thought a camping adventure like this would ever happen!

On our way back from the rally we had to stop at one of our favorite pull offs on the Smoky Mountain Expressway. So glad this scenic highway is in our backyard. Loving all things in the Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge! Mountains as far as you can see.

Each trip there reveals a whole new perspective. We still have a stretch of Blue Ridge Parkway between Boone, NC and Richmond, VA to complete the entire parkway. Last trip was fall of '23, before the devastating Hurricane Helene.
