  1. I hope this isn't a repost. The crank to manually operate the front jack is too short to use with the propane tank cover in place. A regular 3/8 inch drive ratchet extension turned around works as an extension for the manual crank. A 6 inch extension will work but a longer one will allow the crank to clear the propane cover.

  2. Thanks! I never even thought to check and hope that I never need to actually use that crank! Bill

  4. Bingo! I pulled the insulation back and sure enough there is foil on the top side. After I put the antenna on top of the insulation my reception went way up and had no drops in an hour of listening. So, I just used a piece of duct tape to tape the antenna to the fiberglass bottom of the roof behind the Oliver sign and then repositioned the insulation. Mike

  5. I have worn KountryKamper out asking him questions (although he is welcome to answer also) so I will give him a break and ask you all some. What do you use to prop the freezer and refrigerator door open when not in use?

  6. Yeah, I'm cleaning out the pink stuff this weekend, and that's the last I'll ever use it. What a pain. I'm doing the compressed air method from now on. Another tip, which is probably obvious - if you do a 'shock' of your fresh water tank, don't use the tank drain but run that water through the faucets into the gray tank and let it sit there for a bit to keep that funk down to a minimum.

  7. We do the same thing with the fridge and bath door swings to fine tune our leveling. Beats using a level.

  8. I'm fortunate in that when we are at home the oliver is level to the point that if I open the door for the refrigerator it stays in whatever position I leave it in. That is the degree of level that I try to achieve whenever I set up, but I don't get too obsessive about it.

  9. Yep - I take a dry kitchen sponge and place it in the door of the freezer. This holds that door open and, in turn, that door holds the fridge door open plus, I always know where that sponge is. Along this line, when I'm storing Twist for more than a month or so at a time, I crumple up seven or eight sheets of regular old newspaper and place those in the freezer/fridge. When I bring Twist back out of storage I simply recycle the newspaper and the freezer/fridge has no odors at all. Bill

  10. When camping with water connection and leaving camper unattended for the day, should you close hydrant and release pressure inside the camper?

  11. We have a brass wye that connects to the campsite faucet. One side of the wye connects to a pressure gauge and the other is to a regulator. If the pressure is 40 or less we don't worry about it. When we see 80 lbs. or so, we shut the valve off if we leave for a slight extended time. Some city systems never get over 60, unless you walk away. We were surprised that a couple of State Parks we were at had pressures that were 80 lbs. plus. A couple of the commercial parks struggled to (and some of the state parks too) get to 35/40 lbs.. If pressures are nearing 80, off goes the faucet. We never release inside pressure, as that would probably lead to shutting of the water heater element, or maybe the gas. Then we would worry about fridge, and on and on...

  12. Sorry if anyone took my statement to indicate that I was attempting to mitigate or justify his actions. It was only that some of the sources I read gave the impression that it was inside the National Park.

  13. We use a swimming noodle piece about 5 inches long with a slit cut in it to slip over the top edge of the freezer door to hold it open an inch or so. We leave the frig door completely open also while in storage.

  14. Wow. I just spent some time checking out this incident. Check out this article (URL below) if it is still available. If you click on the link to Ryan Andersen's letter of apology in this article, you can read (and write your own) responses to it. I sense that the "sympathetic" responses are fakes. Also note that another arch in Utah has been vandalized with the name "Andersen." Note that this guy was asked to stop but didn't and then told his teenage kids to change the license plates on their vehicle. (Who carries extra plates for purposes like this?) Ryan Andersen's "apology" rings false. So does his claim that he did this on the spur of the moment. He is only worried, in my view, about the consequences he and his business will face. There has been a recent rash of vandalism to national parks and other publicly owned natural sites. It needs a strong response. If one business deserves a boycott for ethical purposes, it is this one. I hope Oliver Travel Trailers does the right thing. https://www.ktbs.com/news/national/east-idaho-family-facing-backlash-for-reportedly-defacing-corona-arch/article_c48df4c8-2fc4-5f0e-b0f4-d987a2ea9b2e.html

  15. We leave our fridge on all the time. Our travel/home time is about 50/50 so we just leave it running since we have 20a at our storage. Mike

  16. Yes, we have a fried that flooded their camper. We we sitting at the table eating lunch and they had been gone for the day. We looked over and water was running out of their camper. It had been cold that night and their hose froze. They got up and their kid turned on the bathroom faucet and no water came out. Problem was she did not turn the faucet off and later when the hose unthawed the water started flowing and in no time the tanks were full and the rest is history and so was their stick built camper. It may never happen but something can leak or break at anytime and you never want to see the sight of water running out. Its been about 15 years but I will never forget that even though it was not ours.

  17. I'm not sure how that lessens what he did. He's a grown man, teaching his kids that they're privileged enough to get away with defacing public monuments. Well, if someone had been planning a lynch mob, I think that should be called off. Otherwise, people who are paid to represent a company are paid to answer questions about their company's, and by extension, their CEO's, ethics. Particularly if it's a tightly held 'family' company, I'd be interested to know how they plan to react. And if people think it's wrong to place Oliver in the uncomfortable position of having those kinds of questions asked at their rally, I'd say that as a promotor of their products, Oliver should be the one asking the questions. So yes, it's easy for me to say I wouldn't have their hitch on my truck because I'd already made that decision since I don't think it's a very good hitch. But you'll have to allow me a certain amount of smugness for a moment about my decision. BTW, I'm not someone who investigates every company I buy from, but I do try to make ethical buying choices when I can. Which makes me ask the question, what would I say if it were an Oliver in this situation? Honestly, I don't know. I wouldn't be happy about it, that's for sure.

  18. An interesting 54,000 acre park. It is so far from the city lights and their light pollution. It has become a favorite amongst the astronomers and campers alike. Even the park got involved by dimming night lights and red shields on the building lights. The stars just seem to be so many and seem to jump off the black sky. During the day it seems you can see from horizon to horizon. The view across the prairie grass is only disturbed by an occasional tree or maybe a herd of deer. Hiking (walking) trails, and biking trails are plentiful. We saw small birds, large birds, even alligators. We did not see one plastic face, plastic cartoon animal, nor a neon light. It is a part of Florida you might miss, or not even know exists, unless you get away from the coast. Reservations are recommended as it is so far in, but the staff did make room for us as walk-ins...
