  1. We have not encountered any fuel problems in Denver NC, so far. Gas prices up to $1.79 to 1.89 per gallon for regular. Seeing 15 cents increase per day per gallon this week since Sunday. Waiting for a resolution to the pipeline issue before heading out camping with Ollie.

  4. Maybe just a coincidence here in Florida a lot of fuel stations are experiencing long lines at the pumps. More than usual it doesn’t take much to start panic these days. 😳

  5. I have received a couple of Messages asking about this, so I guess I should post some pics. This is an older ARB Classic 50 quart cooler, I picked it because it is tall and narrow and that makes it accessible from the rear passenger window of a tow vehicle, I remove the left rear seat of my Land Cruiser and anchor it solidly to home made tie down points. It would not be at all good for it to launch forward during a collision. NOTE: You can't effectively anchor this to an installed seat, the soft foam allows too much motion, and the leather or cloth fabric could be damaged. Door OPEN: Door CLOSED, window down: Because the hinge is on the far side, the lid opens easily. Or it can be removed entirely by "popping" the hinge which has tow little spring loaded ball detents (twist the lid to one side): Tied down hard to the center seat attach point: And in front it is strapped to a length of big chain that is bolted to the two front seat mounts, using 3/8" stainless carabiners for the two ratchet straps to pass through. It is ROCK solid and will not shift on bumpy roads: ***** There are air vents at the two back corners (below the hinges) down low, it is imperative that these be kept open, don't allow cargo or a loose jacket to go down there and block them, or the unit can't cool.***** Note, on a Land Cruiser 200 the AIRBAG warning light will illuminate if you take out a rear seat, so the fix is to install a small resistor in the warning harness connector, the white one at the bottom of the above picture, to fool the computer into thinking that there is a seat installed there. There are instructions at a number of different LC forums, this is very common. Power comes from the center console round 12 volt socket when towing, and from the trailer when parked: ... https://olivertraveltrailers.com/forums/topic/3247-how-to-external-solar-dc-power-cable-using-factory-furrion-port/ The compressor uses about 1 amp and cycles on and off, depending on the heat load, if you reduce that "delta T", the temperature difference between the cabin and the fridge, it will use less power. Add sunshields to south facing glass, park in shade, pop open the sunroof, etc. I normally use it as a freezer and keep stuff really cold, so it can be turned off for a few hours in the daytime or overnight and the contents will not thaw. Highly recommended for long trips, especially to places where food costs are high, or grocery stores are infrequent, like Alaska! https://www.arkportablepower.com/blogs/news/17808136-the-arb-fridge-freezer-and-battery-life-what-you-need-to-know John Davies Spokane WA

  6. Here is a draft delivery checklist prompted, in part, by comments regarding a recent inverter-mount failure (see below). This delivery inspection checklist began with one used by NCeagle for his delivery, to which I've added items. The list is almost certainly incomplete -- what other items would you suggest to help new buyers? Thanks to Oliver for providing this educational ad-free forum, and to all of you for your forum posts that have contributed to this list. This open-dialogue forum is IMHO a huge asset to the OliverOllie Inspection Checklist (draft 4-9-2021).pdf travel trailer brand. I divided the list into two parts: (1) the actual delivery day inspection and (2) items for further inspection at DCSP. I plan on testing the list in 3 weeks when we pick up Hull 792, and will refine the list based on this experience (and with your additions, suggestions, comments, etc). The list is in pdf form. Once updated, I'd be happy to send out (or post) an xlsx version.

  7. For those of you attending the 2021 Oliver Travel Trailer NOT Rally on May 13-16, at Lake Guntersville State Park in Guntersville, AL, please let me tell you about two events that might interest you. 1. In the past, we have traditionally had vendors at the Oliver Travel Trailer Owners Rally in Guntersville Alabama that support Oliver Travel Trailer owners. One of them, Happy Camper Solar displayed a Solar Tracker prototype made for Oliver Travel Trailers at the last official Oliver Rally. After 2 years of development and listening to customer input, there are now fully functional models to display. Although I am part owner in this company, I will be unable to attend the rally this year but my Oliver Elite will be at Lake Guntersville State Park to display the Solar Tracker. Located at the Dog Lot near Section D and the Beach Pavilion, it will have a solar tracker installed on it and be available for viewing the tracker for one day of the rally. This is a fully automated tracking system designed to automatically track the sun all day to significantly maximize the charging of your batteries all day long. It does this by automatically raising and rotating your solar panels on the trailer rooftop to keep them pointed directly at the sun all day long. This system has been designed with many performance features that track safe and easy. Our design and development engineer will be available to answer your questions. 2. If you are going to be in the Guntersville area on June 26-27, and you enjoy racing, you may be interested in Lake Guntersville’s Hydrofest. Hydrofest | Marshall Tourism & Sports (explorelakeguntersville.com) Guntersville has always been known for fast boat races. On June 26-27, 1967 I lived in Guntersville and saw the world’s water speed record broken on Lake Guntersville. The speed was 285.21 MPH. This record was held here for many years. History Part 3 ∞ Hustler ∞ Jet Hydroplane UK ∞ Longbow (jet-hydroplane.uk) My grandfather and I stood on the banks of the Tennessee River very near where Lake Guntersville State Park was later built. We heard the boat coming, saw a flash before us and it was gone. This Tennessee River site was chosen because it was one of the longest stretches on a navigable river with calm water. Come and enjoy all Oliver, it’s owners and Alabama has to offer. Ya’ll Come !! Coy

  8. News reports in the Asheville, NC area claim that some 50% of gas stations are out of gas and/or are limiting purchases to 10 gallons. A Pilot station near Waynesboro, NC (due west of Asheville) is "low" on gas but claims they are getting 7,000 gallons tonight and another 9,000 gallons of gas tomorrow.

  9. Carl, I called Proven industries and told them about my application on the Oliver and they said the chains do not fit inside the lock. I don’t think anything has changed, but given the price of the lock maybe give them a call for further details. They were great to deal with. If you get the Medeco cylinder I highly recommend a spare key.

  13. This is a quote from the Wall Street Journal: The Colonial pipeline runs from Texas to New Jersey and carries about 45% of the fuel consumed on the East Coast, according to the company’s website. The shutdown is particularly worrisome for Southeastern states, including North and South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia; they have fewer sources of fuel compared with states farther up the Atlantic coast. In Raleigh, N.C., area on Tuesday, cars were lined up 30 deep to access a dozen pumps at a BJ’s Wholesale Club. Lines three-cars long waited to fuel up at a Sheetz convenience store near Raleigh-Durham International Airport, one of the rare area stations that still had fuel.

  15. I just got off the phone from speaking with Patriot who told me that they have cancelled their reservations for this year's Non-rally due to fuel concerns. A "ransomware" attack on the major fuel supplier to much of the southeast has caused fuel shipments to be suspended until possibly Friday. This has caused fuel shortages in Asheville, NC and even as far east as Charlotte. Phone calls to the tri-county area surrounding the Lake Gunthersville area confirmed that many gas stations are already out of gas. So, if you are in route to the Rally be very careful in making sure that you have enough fuel and or have enough supplies of food and drink to last for least a week. Bill

  16. Hello Oliver Community! My wife Frieda and I placed an order last week for a 2022 Legacy Elite II to be delivered next February. For over 20 years we've dreamed of owning an Airstream but once we learned about Olivers two years ago and took a look at them, the quality difference became apparent and we haven't looked back. We've been working with Phil and can't say enough good things about his customer service. I took a trip to the new showroom just last week and got my second factory tour. We cannot wait for our trailer. We look forward to getting to know all of you. Scott

  18. I think the Andersen ball mount would greatly benefit from a steel 1/2” square drive receptacle embedded in the very bottom of the lower part, because you could insert the tool you use for tightening the nuts or a long breaker bar…. Using a steel wrench or (poorly fitting) bar through the pin hole will likely cause the soft aluminum to become scarred or distorted after a while. If you do this, it would be prudent to bring along a big coarse file to fix the damage. OK, this is too funny, I am using my iPhone now and the spell checker changed “wrench” to “weird RV”, then when I fixed that it changed it again to “nacho”…. I turned that feature off on my iPad LONG ago but it has much bigger letters on its virtual keyboard. I think hitting the space bar instead of one of the lower letters really confuses it. I should just forget about the phone for posting, except as source for party jokes. Have a nice day. John Davies Spokane WA

  19. Be a bit careful with that "monkey wrench" in that you don't want to bugger up either the shaft or the pin or the housing while you're monkeying around down there. The lug wrench that was supplied by Oliver at delivery almost perfectly fits into the whale tail pin hole and can be used to rotate the shaft into the position you need it. Bill

  24. Hitching up to a heavy trailer with the tow vehicle at a severe angle will ALWAYS be very frustrating, because instead of worrying about just one axis (front to back) you have to struggle with a second one (side to side). When you reverse the TV straight back, the side to side part becomes irrelevant, or at least very small. Move back, when the ball is under the coupler, lower the coupler, make a little front to back adjustment with the TV, maybe kick the hitch or tongue slightly to shift it, clunk, it falls into place. At a severe angle, the slightest motion throws the ball out of alignment in TWO directions. The ball won’t drop down, or else the arm will not latch in place, and the slightest movement of the TV throws it all out of whack again. I spent fifteen minutes hooking up at the last site, which was a very short pull-through with a really tight curve. If I cannot avoid such a site in the future I will remove the whaletail and let it dangle from a 12” bungee cord while I maneuver into position, so the pin hole does not get cocked. When hitching, straighten out the rig and install the whaletail. I hope that made sense. What I described is true for any hitch, but the Andersen with its rotating pin makes things ten times worse. It can be a very frustrating piece of equipment even for somebody who has used one for years. I hate it. John Davies Spokane WA

  25. SNY - Imagine (if you will) what you are looking at in the picture above is the bottom of a shaft. The other end of that shaft is the ball. This shaft rotates inside of the "housing" that is the other silver colored part that then, in turn, is attached to the dark grey/black part that goes into your receiver. This shaft virtually constantly rotates inside this shaft as you go down the road and the Ollie swings one way and the other as you make turns with your tow vehicle. So, there are several ways of "correcting" this issue but the simplest is to re-attach the tow vehicle and the Ollie at the same angle that you detached them. If that is not possible then simply detach the Andersen chain from the Oliver (wrap it around the tongue area for the time being) that will not "stretch" enough to allow you to fit the triangle plate to the bottom of the "shaft". Drive the tow vehicle a short distance turning such that the one chain is now tight and then re-attach the other chain. Or, you can use the "breaker-bar" method you mentioned. HERE is the Andersen You Tube video on this subject. Bill

  26. The angle that the “pin” in your photo is cocked at the angle that the camper was at in relationship to you TV when you unhooked it.... you can either back up to the trailer so the front of the Camper is “square” in relationship to that pin, or remove the pin, insert something ( I think the handle that can be used to lower the jacks if the fuse blows can work) in that hole and spin it til it’s back parallel with your tailgate... then back into hitch up as straight as possible.

  27. Yes it is the shorty, the placement of the rear view mirror in the picture messes up that “instant recognition” the tandem axles give you for the LE2. The bigger trailer has that window sized area of gelcoat between the left two EQUAL SIZED main windows. It is so weird that we are even discussing this…. Phone pictures can fool you. I think we get used to the perspective distortion you get from the typical phone fisheye lens. It can be really hard to judge sizes. John Davies Spokane WA

  28. I guess it depends on how bad a thief wants your Oliver TT. If a thief wants your rig bad enough I suppose there is nothing short of removing the wheels off a camper to prevent theft. We use the Proven lock as a very good deterrent and also proof to our insurance carrier we have done everything we can to prevent theft. We have the upgraded stainless steel puck lock and Medco key cylinder. (Don’t loose the key in big letters in instructions). I can’t imagine trying to remove the Proven lock if a key went missing. In my opinion it’s the best deterrent made for a coupler lock. It fits loosely for a reason to make it very difficult to drill or cut into. Having spent a really long career in Law Enforcement I never investigated or read a report on camper theft. Not to imply it does not happen, but it seems pretty rare. I know I have never read about an Ollie being stolen. We do the best we can to secure your rig and have excellent insurance coverage and choose CGs wisely.

  29. Hello from Ohio! I am Claudia, a new prospective owner of a Legacy Elite II. I couldn't be more excited to join the Oliver family as I've dreamed of owning one since I saw one at our Ohio Casita Rally a few years back. I joined here in 2016 but only occasionally looked at the classifieds. I've owned a Casita for nearly ten years and have loved every minute of ownership..to the point that my trailer was named "OCD" for Obsessive Casita Disorder, LOL. I have lived in my trailer for up to five months while managing a National Forest Campground and have traveled a great deal. I absolutely love being outside and the camping lifestyle. I usually travel with my dog Rex. I'm really looking forward to digging my teeth into the Oliver University and the experience and knowledge from this forum. My success with my Casita was directly related to my membership over at Casitaforum where long time owners freely shared their knowledge and passion. I really hope to repeat that here. My tow vehicle is a 2020 Toyota Tundra TRD Sport and the picture was last year in Utah!

  30. Hi everyone, Mr.J here and happy to be so! I'm one of the few, the proud, the future Oliver owners. It's probably a bit early to do an introduction, but better now since I'm starting to be active searching through the forums and following interesting (to me) folks and conversations. My family is probably a little younger than most, we're in our low thirties, but I've been drawn to RV adventures for a long time. Growing up in urban California, having an RV was not something that was possible, and I was never exposed to it. Let's just say that watching several of my Utah neighbors over the last years pull up their travel trailers load up from their house, and take off for fun and adventures really cemented my journey, which should begin here (anticipated delivery January 2022) in a few months. I spent a year searching and browsing, looking for the right choice for us, but learned along the way of the generally horrible build quality and resale value. I noticed that several popular RV enthusiasts were swapping trailers/rvs every 3/2 and sometimes every year. They would say new features enticed them, new layouts seemed better, but putting it all together, I saw a confirmation that most were good for 3 years max before needing major repair/investment. So a few years ago, my search stopped. Fast forward, and now we have on the market several African/Australian style options, and a huge surge in popularity of teardrop/overland style trailers and travel. Add the Wuhan flu. Then add, traveling out to explore in 1/2 day trips around Utah and in the middle of the disastrous pandemic I saw hundreds of families out and about, living their best possible life, living a normal kind of life. Camping, biking, exploring, and all with their own little piece of privacy and convenience. Expedition style trailers seemed to make the same kind of compromises on quality (at least the American market options) and for the price of a nice teardrop, I don't see the added value of the small usable space, I don't own a rock crawler. And they are pricey too! I don't know how exactly I found Oliver, it wasn't that long ago, but it was definitely around 2 AM on the internet, so safe to say it was a blur. I'm hopeful that all will be well, that my small family, mom/dad/baby will enjoy our new travel home, and that it will enhance our lives to the fullest, and provide us with some amazing opportunities. We have on order an Elite 2, standard floor plan. Planning on sharing the king(-ish) bed with the little one, which is perfectly fine for us, and one day maybe adding a nice 4 season tent to our arsenal for when the extra sleeping space becomes important. I am working on a design for a custom dinette table that will simplify the process of transforming from bed to dinette, and some strategies and custom work to simplify making up the bed in the morning. If I stumble across anything great, I'll be happy to share along the way. Special thanks to Jason (at) Oliver and @DavidSfor doing a walk through with us. David, you'll know us from our matching tow vehicles! Best to all! Mr.J

  31. All, Quick note back to the other Ollie owners out there to let everyone know the new "longer" shackles arrived on Friday and were installed on Saturday. Happy to report that the installation went fairly easy and the upward travel is now ~1.5" as designed. Thanks again to Jason and his team on getting me the new shackles in a short timeframe and working with me on getting the trailer ready for our next trip.

  32. Update to the original post, I've installed the single LifeBlue 200ah battery. The battery is only 58lbs - less than a single 65lb AGM. I used 3/4" pvc trim boards to make spacers in the tray. The only issue I had was the supplied post bolt was not quite long enough to accommodate all the connections (about 3 threads short). The converter/charger was able to bring the battery up from 73% to 100% in about 4 hours (the fan is on all the time for the higher lithium setting). EDIT: The charger fan runs continuously WHILE charging, but shuts off once charging is complete. Battery and inverter are performing as expected. No trouble running the teapot or microwave. Bluetooth connection with the app works well. Very happy with everything so far.

  33. Elite I Oliver Owners, Jason confirmed with their QC/Engineering department that the LE1 trailers should have 1.5" of upward travel. Therefore the upward travel on our trailer was not within the design specs. Jason offered to have our trailer inspected by their shop or a local provider to determine what might be our issue. Upon further discussion with Jason and a few more photos sent to him, we quickly determined the source of our issue was the incorrect Dexter Heavy Duty Kit Shackle was used on our single axle setup. The correct shackle kit (K71358) has shackles that are 4 5/8" in length whereas ours was the shackles you would have used on a dual axle trailer with a length of ~ 3 5/8". Ergo, our trailer is sitting ~ 1" lower that it should. I requested he send me the correct kit with new bolts, nuts, bushings, and shackles for me to install sometime next week. My best guess is someone in the factory just picked up the wrong shackles and installed. I am sure Jason will provide them with the feedback required to establish a QC process that inspects this area so it never happens again. I would however, recommend other 2020 LE1 owners out there inspect their shackles to ensure the correct ones were used on their trailers.

  34. We just took down the Clam, fire pit, cooking table, etc, and packed the truck. I think we’ll head home tomorrow. We’ve had a good month out in KY and TN. Hate to miss our last week and those going to LGSP, but I think it’s best we head west tomorrow. Mike

  35. There was no problem in Dunlap, TN yesterday. The news reports I just read said southeastern states are affected. Once the pipeline is open there will be a lag of some sort before everybody is resupplied. We could probably get home by going north then west to I-35 before heading south. Looks like OK and TX aren’t affected. If stations around Lake Guntersville are out or running out we may have to cancel too. 😠
