Looking for a birthday gift for he-who-never-locks-a-door, I started researching keyless entry locks & came across one made by Bauer that is also bluetooth. On Amazon it's $255. Direct from manufacturer it's $275. Although the keycode entry is all I really wanted, for $30 more, the proximity feature & being able to lock the door when already tucked into bed are nice perks. Your thoughts? Chris

2021 - Oliver's Travels -all share
ShallowGal replied to BackofBeyond's topic in Campgrounds & Parks
Sadly, we're wrapping up our travels, for now. Time to start planning our fall adventure to to add West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois to travel map. Any "must see" suggestions appreciated! -
It was great to meet you Pat!

We are twin bed loungers as well. The dinette isn't bad but ours is usually covered with stuff. When trapped inside I use a bluetooth noise-cancelling headset so I don't have to listen to Grit TV. 😁

Memphis to Guntersville. All gas stations are business as usual.

Just spent five days at the Prairie Creek COE campground on Beaver Lake in Rogers, AR. Ticks (Lone Star) were falling out of the trees. Would not have believed it if I hadn't seen it.

Unable to find a previous thread about what books you listen to on the road, I'm starting another. Please share any audio books you recommend to help make those long days on the road fly by. Here are some of our favorites, most of which were suggested by fellow Ollie owners. (Thank you!) Ordinary Heroes The Boys in the Boat A Man Called Ove Michener's Alaska (especially if you're going there) A River Runs Through It Beartown Girl with a Dragon Tattoo The Way I Heard It The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared Floating Twigs Where the Crawdads Sing

We use a 9x14 purchased at Walmart for $50ish that works well & cleans up easily. However, when it has served its purpose & is dumpster bound, we may get two smaller ones instead. Sometimes the 9x14 is too big & I would think smaller ones would be easier to handle & store.

I consider the x-chocks a theft deterrent. If they were to hook up & try to drive off, the trailer isn't going anywhere. Sure, they can undo them, if the have the wrench or socket or time, but hopefully the jerk has deemed my Ollie too much of a hassle & moved on.

What are you listening to? Video Thread

I wish there was a simple way to dump all of these to a playlist. -
Truth. Sadly, we learned this the hard way.

2017 Furrion TV & Furrion stereo Although we've had our camper 3 years, we rarely used the television until we wanted to watch the Superbowl a couple weekends ago. Wanting to pipe the sound through the stereo speakers I set out to learn how to make it happen. Searched forum... 😬 Watched video... our settings menu is different Unplugged & replugged cables on television & behind stereo... 😬 Just started pushing buttons... Success! It appears, in our case anyway, that the stereo mode needs to be set to ARC, not AUX. And it takes it several seconds for the sound to switch. And if the stereo is on ARC when you turn it on, the sound won't switch to the speakers. You have to cycle through all the modes & go back to ARC. This seems darn goofy to me which makes me think, "there must be a better way," so please chime in with your thoughts. Attached is my reminder for the next time we want to listen to the tv through the stereo speakers. 😁

Goosebumps! The Blue Angels perform [almost] every year at Lakeland's huge airshow, the Sun 'n Fun Fly-In. I hear the roar & run outside to my private viewing of their magnificence. Goosebumps & tears every time.

Being Floridians, we, too, have seldom RV camped here. Places we have stayed & enjoyed are: Jacksonville- Kathryn Hanna Park St. Augustine- Anastasia SP High Springs- O'Leno SP Sopchoppy- Ochlockonee River SP (Only stayed 1 night.) Pensacola- Top Sail SP Chipley- Falling Waters SP (1 night, not much to do once you've seen the falls.) Lakeland (home)- Sanlan RV Resort (it's where we taught ourselves how to use camper. Nice pools & trails through reclaimed phosphate pits.) Pre-camper days we enjoyed tent camping with our boys at Fort De Soto CP, Hillsboro River SP, Lake Kissimmee SP, & Myakka River SP. Friends whose opinions we trust like Hardee Lakes CP, Colt Creek SP, & Kissimmee Prairie Preserve SP. We're looking forward to seeing where you go!

Generator for 2021 and beyond
ShallowGal replied to Ray and Susan Huff's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
We purchased the Yamaha 2400 Inverter Generator for our 2017 Oliver Elite II, it works great with power to spare. The only down side is it's weight but will put up with the additional weight as it is an outstanding generator. -
Single best spot you parked Ollie.

My (Chris) favorite is a secluded boat launch on the Tsirku River about 30 miles outside of Haines, AK. It is primarily used by folks who have homes on Chilkat Lake that are only accessible by boat. https://maps.app.goo.gl/qXKAupauU1tLi9N2A -
Congratulations & welcome! We LOVE Harvest Hosts! The only place where we have stayed on your projected route is Paw Paw's Pecans in Atkins, Arkansas. It's not too far south of I-40. Another great option for one-nighters is Cracker Barrel, especially after an unusually long drive day & cooking is the last thing you want to do.

What DO I need to buy before I pick up Ollie Elite I?
ShallowGal replied to Moonlight Mile's topic in General Discussion
Too funny! Baxter State Park was the inspiration for our boy's name. I must warn you, when you are screaming his name (because he & his sister are playing tug-of-war with a possum) it sounds like you are saying something quite inappropriate. -

Doggy preparedness: 1. A dog first aid kit & book. 2. Skip getting a pretty rug for inside the door. Get two turf-like/shoe-scraper ones, one for outside & one for inside. Grass & sand will still get beyond them, but not as much. 3. Cordless stick vacuum. You don't want the little short ones because the exhaust sends into orbit what you're trying to suck up. 4. A broom with a small head. I found a great one at the dollar store. 5. These towels because, like our dogs, terry cloth never dries. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RSQH0N4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_nShgBHG4HMpAn 6. A way to restrain your pup while on the road. We use this harness & seatbelt thing. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014IJNP3C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_PK3MFbZD2V7KW?psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D8XRNWR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_mJ3MFbEC4DWCQ 7. We built a platform for the back seat of truck. It keeps dogs off upholstery, makes it easier for them to see out the windows, & provides extra storage underneath. 8. What seems like a lifetime supply of poo bags. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MBY2694/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_c82MFbK96X5RE?psc=1 9. A length of cotton rope & a couple carabiners to give you flexibility of where you tie up your furbaby & the ability to do it quickly. Those plastic coated wire lines are friction burning neck breakers. -
Feedback requested for winter Southwest trip.
ShallowGal replied to Mattnan's topic in General Discussion
We have no experience camping in the southwest, yet. Only 2 cents I can add is to suggest the River View RV Resort that is right across the river from Natchez, MS in Vidalia, LA. We were there a couple weeks ago because hubs wanted to stay somewhere with a view of the Mississippi. The place is spotless, sites are spacious, and the rates were amazingly low. I must admit it was fun to watch the barges go by. https://www.riverviewrvpark.com/ If you go, request site #2. -
