Plumbing upgrades with SharkBite fittings
dewdev replied to Nick R.'s topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Nicky: Did you reuse the valves and the PEX tubing on either side of the valves? When you removed the PVC elbows, was the PEX tubing the correct length when installing the brass sharkbit fittings? -
Some people here have removed the insert in the Oliver receiver that then makes into a 2" receiver but that leaves for very thin walls on the remaining 2" receiver. You could remove (unbolt) the 1.25" receiver and buy a 2" receiver but then you need to figure out how to attach the 2" receiver. I had a welder weld ears on either side of the new steel receiver and then drilled new holes to mount the receiver on the frame. I used some small backer plates under the frame for the bolts to go through. Then painted the steel receive with a silver paint to match the frame.

Ray: Thanks for posting the Ranger pages. My Ranger is in a 2018 Oliver, so it is a little older (based on the Ranger ID #) but the pages are essentially the same as the ones you posted. I did make one change on the WiFi tab to match what yours had. I then went back to the Maine Tab and hit connect (on the left side) next to my home WiFi name. When I did that the message under the green Internet tab said "Searching". After awhile it change to "Off Line" so it is not picking up my home WiFi even though it is a strong signal. Thinking that the Ranger did not like my WiFi for some reason I changed to a different Network with a "Open" designation from somewhere near me. Same result, with that one as it tried to "Search" and then went to "Off-Line". Kind of frustating, but thanks for your assistance. At least I know I am using the correct procedures.

Ray: Yes I am able to get to the Control Panel and have tried to connect to my home internet. It keeps failing. I have sorted using the Core as well as the SkyPro with no sucess when clicking on the "Connect" button.

Ray: Thanks for the information on the #5 light being normally on. That eliminates one more question I have. I think my next step is to set the Ranger back to the factory settings, try starting it up again and if that does not work then wait for a call back from Ranger people to try and figure out what is wrong.

Having difficult time twisting off sewer cap
dewdev replied to Sak's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
I also find it dificult to get the sewer cap off. I find that it helps to use two hands and it twists off easier. -
After owning my Ollie for a few years now, I finally decided to give the WiFi Ranger a try. (It was never used by the first owner.) Even though my Ollie is only 50 feet away from my house router, I could not get the Ranger to acquire my home WiFi. I talked to a fellow Oliver owner, who is/was a electronic/internet expert who has sucessfully used the Ranger in his Ollie and we could not figure out what is up with my Ranger. I have also watched the Ranger video on how to do a Quick Start so I am positive I am using the correct Start procedures. Hull #354 was a demo model for Olliver Travel Trailers prior to being sold to the first owner. I am wondering if they had used the Ranger and set things up for their use which is not working for me. I have a phone call into the company but they have not called back yet. I did hear on WiFi Ranger phone message that they did say that sometimes the Ranger will not be able to pick up some signals. I also noticed that when my Ranger is powered up the #5 light in the upper right corner is lite red all the time. For those that sucessfully use their Ranger is that #5 light supposed to be on all the time the unit is powered up? Any helpful suggested would be appreciated. Thanks Richard

I asked Oliver sales about what Truma AC unit they are installing. I was told it was a 13,500 btu unit. I went on the Truma web page and the only unit I found that is 13,500 btu is the Truma eco. There is no heat pump capability on this Truma eco AC unit. I would be interested to know if anyone else has better or other information from Oliver. A AC unit that is a heat pump would be beneficial.

John Davis: FYI, Looking at the 2023 Build (rate) sheet under "Water Heater & AC Packages" it states the following options: Ssuburban Water Heater & Dometic AC - $0.00 increase or Suburban Water Heater & Dometic AC with Micro-Air Easy Start - $450.00 or Truma AquaGo On-Demand Water Heater & Truma Aventa AC - $3500.00 or Truma AquaGo On-Demand Water Heater & Truma Aventa AC & Electric Antifreeeze Kit - $3800.00 No Furnace combo model is listed. In the catalogue, it only lists LP Ducted Furnace, no brand is given. Maybe the web site gives more information

Kirk: Sounds like a good move as now you will be getting the quieter Truma AC unit option? What Solar/battery option are you thinking of getting?

Congratulations on your new to you Oliver. Welcome to the Oliver Owner's forum. You will have lots of fun in retirement with King’s Ransom. Where is home base?

Renogy 100w portable solar panel question ?

rideand fly: Do you have any pictures of the Victron 500A Bluetooth SmartShunt and the connection wiring? Thanks -
YMCA camp when I was 10 and again when I was 11. My dad bought a Apache pop-up camper when I was 12.. It had a double bed (for my Dad) and the pop-up canvas went to the side and made a side room. We had two cotts on either side of the door, one for me and one for my best friend who was from NYC. We went all over New England and Canada each summer. Mom stayed at home and worked in her restaurant. (she did not like camping anyway because there was no toilet in the popup or so that was her excuse). We would eat supper and Dad would go visit with the neighbors while we boys were assigned to washing the dishes. Those were the good old days as a kid. We never needed to get a reservation at campgrounds so we just traveled whereever Dad drove us.

Bringing the bikes into the trailer while towing the Ollie is a bad idea. Damage to the Ollie and/or the bike. Best to use a exterior bike rack on the Ollie or if you have a pickup truck put them in the back with a bike rack in the bed.

My Ollie sleeps outside in the winter. The solar panels keep my AGM batteries charged up all winter. Even when there is a couple of inches of snow on the solar panels, the panels still generator electricity. If the snow is 6" or more in depth, I take a push broom and push the snow off them. Not sure what I will do if I decide to change to Lithium batteries! If I do, I will likely have to remove the batteries in the winter and put them in a heated space and monitor their charge level.

My RAM pickup, with the trailer towing option, has a mileage screen that keeps track of the mileage for when the 7 pin trailer wiring is connected from Ollie. This screen page also provides me with the way of adjusting the braking gain. A very nice option. No paperwork and it is accurate.

they are good at hiding.

David: I am guessing that you use the cover only when not camping and remove the cover when traveling. Is that correct?

Covered storage, AGM batteries & Zamp controller.
dewdev replied to Keith-n-Jill's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Assuming you have AGM batteries: 1. I do not believe so as there are other equipment that uses 12V power that will drain the batteries. 2. The charger will work when connected to 110V power. -
@Steph and Dud BDid you happen to ask about their proposed 28 footer that they are in the planning mode?

SeaDawg: You might want to try a newer RAM 1500 truck just for the fun of it. My 2018 drivers seat is very comfortable and very adjustable. Not so much on the passenger seat but still good. My truck has the air suspension system so I can adjust the height of the truck off the ground. This suspension (so I am told by people at the dealership) provide for a real softer ride than the standard shock assorbers, even in rough pavement conditions.

Services, memberships, apps, etc for long trips
dewdev replied to John and Jodi's topic in Campgrounds & Parks
We use: 1. Harvest Host for free camping sites at breweries, winerys, farms, golf courses, etc. This is a web based site and there is a membership fee for this site. 2. Rvparky which is a web based site and free. We plan out our trip before leaving home, add in our anticipated stop locations and it will tell you the miles and extimated travel time between locations. At each stop you can click on camping locations and there is a list of a lot of camping sites listed, including Walmarts, Costco's, TA locations, rest areas, etc. 3. A Garmin 890 GPS which has camping sites and points of interest that can be accessed at each location. -
Albert: Interesting information, thanks for posting. My 2018 RAM with the 5.7 Liter engine has a max payload of 1,889 pounds and a max towing capacity of 11,610 pounds (with the 5.7 liter engine). Mossey - what kind of mileage does your Land Cruiser get with and without towing the Ollie?
