AGM Battery Mount Problem
rideandfly replied to Mike and Carol's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Removed batteries and battery tray from #75 2015 LE2 Ollie this afternoon. There was a little damage caused by the strap hook and rivets to one of the batteries, but battery is OK for use: Going to clean, prep and paint tray. Will also sandwich & secure 1/8" UHMW plastic strips between battery and tray where rivets and strap hook contact batteries. Ordered 1/8" plastic material from Amazon. You can see corrosion formed over the years: Plan to sandwich rubber sheet material between tray & fiberglass where tray rails bolt to fiberglass: -
AGM Battery Mount Problem
rideandfly replied to Mike and Carol's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Other batteries may be larger than my Duracell 12V Marine/RV Group 27 batteries. Need to measure overall interior width of your battery tray to see if 1/8" material can be placed on both side of your batteries. Noticed rivet clearance problems with both group 27 AGM 12V batteries in Ollie's battery tray during discussion in thread here. Rivet and battery hook contact made with batteries can be stopped with 1/8" plastic between the battery and tray on my Ollie. There is enough clearance on both sides of my group 27 batteries for 1/8" plastic. Cutouts can be made in the plastic to accommodate the rivets and strap hooks to prevent battery damage. 1/8" plastic cutting board or 1/8" plastic (UHMW) from Amazon could be used. Other types of 1/8" materials could be used, too. Just have not gotten this project yet -
Ray and Susan, Congrats on your beautiful new Ollie!!!!!!

I can see the potential for battery case damage, should have seen it earlier. Cutting board material, probably UHMW plastic, is tough and cheap. Easy to saw, drill and shape. It would be perfect battery protection for vibration applications. I'm already using it in the battery compartment to keep the batteries in place and made a backing plate for the Furrion Solar port installation, too. -

Like Overland posted, the tray is 14" X 21" on the LE2. Just looked at Ollie's battery tray and saw the next Ollie project. There are pull or pop rivets protruding 1/8" on both interior sides of our tray front & back. Going to place at least 1/8" thick plastic, stealing one of Debbie's cutting board again, between battery and tray with holes drilled at rivet locations to keep rivets from damaging batteries. The actual width of the tray is 14 1/8" to 14 1/4", but rivets protrude 1/8" on each side making 14" wide tray clearance. You could gain up to 14 1/8" to 14 1/4" tray width by installing flush head rivets or flat head screws pointing outward from the battery, if additional width is needed. -

Battleborn 100 Ah 12V LiFePO4 Deep Cycle Battery size: 12.75" × 6.875" × 9" tall Going to measure Ollie's battery tray today, length and width. We currently have two Duracell Platinum group 27 AGM 12V marine/RV batteries: Size 12.75" x 6.75" x 9.875" tall -
John, That's a good price, Thanks for the link. Started looking at this unit to upgrade to Lithium batteries recently when Mike posted about his progressive unit. Replaced the original unit a couple years ago with a non-lithium charging unit. Lithium batteries were not on my radar at that time. It's easy to replace.

Beautiful shot! We have not visited Maine, yet!

Took this shot at Valley of Fire, too. Plan to visit again next time in Nevada: We like Bryce along with so many beautiful places out west:

Thanks! 👍 Took a Miata on Tail of the Dragon a few years ago, and really enjoyed it. Had the top down and Debbie was hearing a scraping noise behind us in the curves. It was a motorcycle dragging his pegs through the curves. Later that day, Debbie said I had to install a roll bar on the Miata. Installed a Hard Dog roll bar during the next couple months on Mr. Miata. 🙂

We enjoy roads like Tail of the Dragon TN, Devil's Whip (NC80) and Diamondback (NC226A) on two & four wheels. Debbie & I riding "Tail of the Dragon": Riding the "Devil's Whip" (NC80) going up the hill on same section of road Patriot posted:

Here's a photo of mine before installation during 2017. My Progressive unit is different from yours. Will call with the serial number to see if I need a new Progressive unit for charging Lithium batteries. Thanks,

mjrendon, Appreciate information on Progressive Dynamics module. Replaced our Progressive module during 2017, so will check if we will need to buy a new Progressive module when we upgrade to Lithium batteries. Thanks,

Anderson Jack Blocks (The red buckets)
rideandfly replied to Naegele's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
We use the Camco stabilizer jack supports. They work fine for us, too. How about cutting a round piece of plywood like Hardrock mentioned to further distribute load concentration. Wood we use for Ollie storage is painted for durability, too. To help reduce rear jack stabilizer load we also use Camco banana wedge leveling system for rear wheels similar to what like KWRJRPE mentioned. In the reviews for the Camco leveling wedges, some users reported slippage, so we cut out rubber matts for use under wedges to prevent slipping on hard surfaces, working fine so far. It's easy to replace wood when it gets in poor condition, like John and Sherry mentioned. -

Jordanelle SP UT is on our list of State Parks to camp at during future western trips! Would be nice to visit during a rally in the fall. -
Susan, Our Diamondback on a 2016 Tundra is the SE model. Hope these photos help. https://diamondbackcovers.com/products/diamondbackse?variant=32626020089955 Edit: If you are asking about bed rails that locking rods insert into, bed rails were standard on our SR5 Tundra and probably many pickups. They are almost flush with the top inside of the pickup bed: Measuring from bottom of cover: Measuring from top of truck bed: Exterior lock lever: Interior lock:

Sherry, Our Diamondback cover is the lowest cost unit they make with 400 pound maximum carrying capacity on the cover. The more expensive models like Mac's has much higher load carrying capacities. With both top cover doors closed, the tailgate opens easily. Don't need slide out drawers with both top doors that open, but need a folding stool to reach over each side of the pickup bed to reach gear. Have not hauled anything on top of our Diamondback cover, yet. Have to admit, after seeing Overland's thread about a Tonneau cover with built in solar panels, been "thinking for now" about installing two Renogy 30W removable solar panels on both Diamondback fold up doors to increase solar capacity by 120W in addition to our 100W Renogy suitcase panel.
-
Susan, Yes, Happy with the aluminum diamond plate material, no corrosion. Had the option to go with black powder coated finish from Diamondback, but wanted the bed cover to blend with chrome parts on the Tundra and aluminum wheels on Ollie. Thinking about installing aluminum wheels on the Tundra, too.
