  1. Yes. Completely separate functions. Turning the inverter off has no effect on the converter (charger).
  2. Your statements are mostly correct, but let's be a little more specific. The Xantrex unit is really two devices: a converter and an inverter. The converter takes shore power (120v AC) and converts it into DC volts to charge your batteries. This happens automatically when you plug your trailer into shore power. However, the Xantrex has nothing to do with solar charging. There is a separate device for that. You didn't post the year of your trailer, but your hull number tells me it's new. Our trailer has a Zamp solar charge system, but I think the newer units use Victron(??). Either way, there should be another control panel somewhere inside your cabin for solar charging. That system should also be passive/automatic for you. It'll work when there's sun without any interaction from you. The inverter part of your Xantrex does convert 12v DC battery power to household 120v AC for your outlets, etc. but it requires interaction from you. Turn it on (silver button pressed in) when you want 120v outlet power from the batteries. Turn it off when you don't need it because the inverter draws power from the batteries even when you're not using the 120v outlets. The green LEDs and display on the control panel tell you what it's doing. (You can press the OK button to wake up the display at any time.) Hope this helps clear it up a bit for you.
  3. Sorry to hear you all got sick. On the bright side, that was actually a pretty good shakedown trip. You were able to test for leaks in the rain, test the furnace, get a feel for the capacity of the batteries, and get a sense of the living space available when one person is sick. Hope you've all recovered a bit now. Yours was the first picture I've seen of the new bathroom door. Would love to see a full length shot of it if you get a chance. Also, we've been thinking of getting another dog after retirement and figured the dog bed would go where you put yours. How big is your dog (photos?) and how did it work out with his/her bed there?   8. Excellent advice! I saved some 2x6 cutoffs for firewood and some sheathing/roof cutoffs for shelves, etc. but a lot went to waste, and we paid for all of it.

  10. I'm assuming this is a steel building? If they use roll up doors, there won't be anything over the trailer, but they'll need enough height for the rolled up doors at the ends. For our conventional garage doors we installed side mount door openers instead of hanging them over the bays. They're very nice.
  11. That seems like a good size. However, if you build a pull-through, you lose any storage on the back wall. Something to consider if you want to store some camping gear in there, too. We just built a 30'x30' wood framed garage with two bay doors, each 10' wide by 12' high, and some storage/work area on the side. The trusses are 14' up. The 10' wide doors are fine for an Oliver. No trouble backing in. I use a traffic delineator post as a target for the rearview camera. You can see it in one of the photos. (We couldn't do a stripe on the floor because our dually's hips block my view of the trailer wheels.) We didn't install a 30A plug because we don't intend to run the trailer A/C in there, but we do have a 20A circuit for battery charging, etc.

  13. The other thing that can make them act strange is low voltage. Are your batteries charged?
  14. Never in 24 years of winterizing various trailers. That's a combination CO and propane detector. Make sure your propane tanks are off.
  15. No specs. The most expensive LE2 is $106k. Single awning, 30# tanks, standard toilet, no bike rack. I'm assuming one of the Lithium packages? The others are around $97k. I assume OTT will have a couple of standard option lists they offer at dealers?
  16. Also check all your brake wiring and brake operation. I've heard of SOB trailer owners having melted wires and/or damaged brake magnets from this scenario.
  17. Air pressure should not be able to build up in any tank. They should be vented through the roof, even with the dump valve and toilet closed. I suspect the tank and part of the vent stack was completely filled with fluid. That would absolutely create a toilet geyser.

  21. Our garage is almost done. Just need electrical run and installed before Eggcelsior can move in. Hoping to have it indoors before the first real snowfall.
  22. Don't know about any commuter lots or other free parking but we've stayed at Cherry Hill Park campground in Maryland. They had a city bus stop in the campground that took you to the Metro for the trip into the city. Maybe they have an overflow lot or something similar you could use.
  23. I don't think this is correct. Setting #28 limits the maximum draw of the converter section to X amps, with preference going to any internal 120v loads before the balance goes to the converter for battery charging. For instance, if it's set to 15A, and you have 5A of internal loads (TV, cell chargers, etc.), 10A will be used to charge the batteries. They'll still charge, but slower. I've done this many times when connected to a small generator or to a 15A circuit. Look at it this way: your solar panels still charge the batteries and they don't come anywhere near 150A of charging current. Limiting setting #28 to 15A will slow charging but not stop it unless you have 15A of other draws running in the trailer.
  24. Yeah, it does that. Try turning a wifi hotspot on on your cell phone, then connect the TV to your hotspot. Once it's connected, you'll be able to switch back to antenna. Next time, make sure you're on antenna before turning it off. It always tries to go back to Wi-Fi if that's where you left it last time you used it.
