  1. A couple of years ago I was camped under a tree that was covered with ants. They dropped onto the Ollie and found the "weep" holes in the window tracks and were soon inside. A quick spray took care of the problem and they have never returned - of course, I've never camped under that tree again either. Over winter storage I've placed "sticky traps" inside, but, have never even caught one spider let alone anything else. Bill
  2. The "un-mentionable"
  3. Nice of you to "mention" it!
  4. DMc - Yes, all new Olivers come with nitrogen fill tires. Bill
  5. For the sake of privacy on what might be a personal issue regarding whether you do or do not have a safe on board, you might want to send a PM to ScubaRX in this regard. Bill
  6. The wooden door was/has been used in the past when the owner opted to not get the microwave. However, it appears that this has recently been changed so that this is now at least a frosted panel/door. I'd guess that you can order whichever panel/door you would prefer, but, I'd also guess that the wooden door option has been discontinued. Hope this helps. Bill
  7. Yes! The Winter after receiving my Oliver I spent a fair amount of time fabricating a carpet covered super-dupper shower floor. Unfortunately it made the floor too tall for me to be able to stand in the shower without having to bend over. So, I gave it to another Oliver owner who is somewhat under 6 foot tall. Still not liking the feeling of the "cool" fiberglass under foot I started looking for a bath mat that would fit that space, dry quickly, was machine washable and that I could place on the outside of the shower when things really got damp in there (i.e. a place for my wet feet to land after a shower). After a year of searching I found this: https://www.campingworld.com/idry-bath-mat---pewter-71553.html Bill
  8. Just saw this YouTube video yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7GQ_E40DcM Bill
  9. This “departure angle” issue not only applies to "rough uneven forest roads". Particularly in the Western States roads are built with fairly deep gutters for rain and snow. These can pose a "departure angle" problem when pulling into and out of gas stations, grocery stores, laundromats, etc. Particularly when one is in a hurry due to traffic considerations. And, due to the fact that these are not dirt roads, the damage done can be much more severe. Bill
  10. I guess that there might be a few reasons one would want to secure the bathroom door in the open position. I know that since I travel alone 90% of the time, I prefer to simply leave it open. Obviously this is difficult to do if the Oliver is "tilted" towards the curb side. Another reason is you want to leave the bath door open as either you are using the bath and/or getting/putting things in or out of the bath. And yet another - you want to exhaust air with the bath fan while bringing air into the Oliver with the MaxAir fan. I'm sure there are more but I'm guessing that you get the idea. Bill
  11. The cushions that I have for one side have a "tab" with snaps on the "back" of each cushion in order for them to be attached to each other. Certainly you could ask for these tabs to be left off or you could leave them on an mix/match for either side.
  12. Mike & Carol, Since you jumped in (thanks!) - do you know what the measurements are of the shade you have? Bill
  13. For anyone considering the purchase of one of these sun/wind screens (like me), you might want to consider one that comes in two pieces and zip together. Mike & Carol purchased one of these in Quartzsite a couple of years ago and the advantage is that when temporarily leaving the campsite or stowing the awning for the night, you only have to unzip the lower portion of the screen and then roll up the awning. Mike tells me that when traveling they remove the entire screen since the short portion does not entirely roll up into the case with the awning. https://www.amazon.com/13-Charcoal-Vista-Shade-Zipper/dp/B00DV7F8AQ/ref=sr_1_5?crid=3PG9UJ6TVOKPD&dchild=1&keywords=vista+shade+with+zipper&qid=1591543597&sprefix=Vista+Shade+%2Caps%2C163&sr=8-5
  14. Yes, thanks for the kind comments. We Moderators are Oliver owners and Forum members just like everyone else on the Forum. In addition to our "moderator" duties we too have opinions, emotions and overall views of our world that may or may not coincide with virtually any particular topic out there. However, we try our best to be guided by the "Oliver Forum Guidelines". If anyone hasn't read these Guidelines in awhile, now might be a good time to do so. They can be found under "General Discussion" - "Read First: Oliver Forum Guidelines". Bill
  15. In reading the warranty it sure seems to me that you have a legit claim. Good luck! Bill
  16. I was wondering why I had a craving for "milk bones" 😃! Seriously - I'm trying to get all my around the house chores done prior to a planned departure for Wyoming just after July 4th. Hopefully NFS campgrounds will be back open by then or I'll have to cancel and be stuck with chasing North Carolina trout all summer- could be a lot worse I guess. Bill
  17. If you posted a picture - I'm having great difficulty in seeing it. If the picture is in your computer - simply click on "Choose files" below and go to where you have that picture stored in your computer. Then double left click on the picture and wait until it is uploaded (usually 30 seconds or so). Bill
  18. Bobfirst - I see that your Ollie is a 2017 model but it would be helpful if you could post a picture of the specific faucet you are talking about. Thanks, Bill
  19. I had the good fortune of being able to watch a mission liftoff several years ago. If you ever have the chance - don't miss it! Even at ten miles away the whole thing is stunning from both a visual and physical perspective. Even watching this SpaceX mission on YouTube brought chills. Perhaps SeaDawg might organize an Oliver Space Rally one of these days? 😃 Bill
  20. Nancy - 1 - I believe that most people going this route use the foam on top of the existing cushions. I've heard of at least one person that made a cover for the foam and that served as a "bottom sheet". They claimed that this made making and deploying the bedding easier each day. 2 - I use a number of throw pillows for the purpose you describe. This way I can use more of them or less of them depending on the situation and where I want to sit/relax. At least one former Oliver owner (Windcrasher) purchased "wedge" pillows (roughly shaped like a triangle) in order to reduce that distance while at the same time providing for more back support. You can purchase additional "back cushions" through Oliver - I have one side of my twin bed designed as a couch. Bill
  21. Papabiker - Do you rent yourself out for that exterior polishing? Sure must be nice to have a relatively level driveway. If I set up that scaffold in my driveway I'd be in the next county by the time it stopped rolling! Bill
  22. For a number of years now I have cautioned about simply purchasing a large portable waste tank due to the size of the tank and the weight of the tank when full. Smaller tanks of this sort can be stored and handled much easier and all of these tanks can be fitted with an indicator that "warns" you of how full they are getting. In addition, I always carry "Double Doodie" (or WalMart's equivalent) bags: https://www.amazon.com/Reliance-Products-2683-03-Double-Doodie/dp/B0024O0W94/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2GENF1YIDNWHC&dchild=1&keywords=double+doodie+toilet+waste+bags&qid=1590930131&sprefix=double+doo%2Caps%2C169&sr=8-2 These bags can be placed and used inside the existing Oliver standard toilet in the event I am concerned about not being able to find a dump station. Or, they can be used outside when I have my shower tent set up for longer boondocking situations. However, back to Landrover's thoughts, it might be interesting to have an RV toilet that is a combination cassette and black tank. Use the black tank when you need longer term storage of waste matter but have the cassette when you know you will have places to empty the contents more frequently. For a time I was very interested in composting toilets. But, the more I learn the more I found out that I would only be swapping one set of issues for another. And, as Sherry has said, the job of emptying the black tank is really no big deal and for my kind of camping the water saving "feature" of the composting toilet is really not sufficient to justify the kind of money charged for those things. Bill
  23. Peter - I'll also add my welcome to you. Don't worry about lack of Forum use - you'll get better the more you interact here. The most important thing about picking up your Oliver is to enjoy yourself. All the other stuff can be learned - which is half the fun. Review as much as you can here on the Forum before you go and specifically take a look at the Oliver University for your model of Ollie - https://olivertraveltrailers.com/oliver-university/ AND, if you have not viewed it certainly take a look at the what to expect video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TES5Qhr7DQc Finally, let all of us know how it went for you and if there is anything we can do. Bill
  24. Slightly off topic but this idea can be used even for the awning support pole guide lines/tie down lines as well as for the Clam. I've placed these "bungee hooks" at the end of my Clam's tie down lines to help absorb some of the shock caused by the wind. This started back in the old tent camping days but has always been very successful in keeping things tied down and the bright color of the bungee helps keep everyone on their toes, so to speak 🙂. https://www.amazon.com/Vispronet-Pieces-10-75in-Heavy-Duty-Bungee/dp/B074TY6C38/ref=sr_1_202?dchild=1&keywords=bungee+hooks&qid=1590843251&sr=8-202 Note: The ones I have are only 6 inches long, are red and I've usually found them at Ace Hardware. Sorry I could not find an exact picture.
  25. I hate myself for saying this but - Time Files! Seriously, it really does. During the three months of waiting you have a bunch to do (besides dreaming of all the great places you can take that Ollie). The Oliver University is a great place to start and since you are already here, there is a bunch of information contained on this Forum that will help ease you into the Oliver world. Welcome and please do not hesitate to ask questions along the way. Bill
