What are these keys for?

Recommended Posts

These three keys were on our camper key ring.

  • #1 is used for locking/unlocking the external compartments (basement and batteries).
  • #2 and #3 are mysteries to us.

We'd appreciate any help.

#2 is a cotter pin which Oliver gives to you as a spare. I want to say it is for something to do with the hitch setup but not sure.  I would assume #3 is the door key.

Correct, #2 secures the latch on the Bulldog hitch to keep it from unwanted opening.   I keep it as a spare, I use a small hitch pin which is easier to use and more secure.   Key #3 looks like it might be a door key.  Do you have the electronic lock?  That key might be the one to open it if batteries go dead.   Just a guess, I don’t have the electronic lock on the door.

We have the electric lock door which has a remote and key identified by the brand, RVLock, so I don't think it's the door key, but, I admit, I didn't try it.

Our Bulldog hitch has a hitch pin to keep it's lever secure. However, the pin we use to secure the Anderson weight distribution hitch uses a cotter pin for security....Hmmm, that could be it for #2.

I believe the #3 key is to the lock on the super secret hidey hole. You will be told its location after six months of ownership. 😂🤣😂🤣

Kerrville is a nice spot to camp.  Downtown is nice and there is a big park down by the river.  Some great restaurants too.  We’re headed up to Austin today (Lake Georgetown COE) and will be back next week.

As an aside, while the cotter pin or locking pin are fine for travelling, don't rely on that locking pin for security. Simply cutting the thin-gauge wire clip will allow the hitch to be opened. Per several posts on this forum, I've purchased "The Collar" hitch for the Bulldog coupling on our in-process Oliver.

Absolutely right.

Even for those times - while on the road - I "lock" the bulldog with something like THIS.

Steve Morris is correct that these are fairly easy to defeat as is simply using wire/bolt cutters to cut that fairly thin "wire" that holds/operates the sliding collar, but, it does keep the "casual" kid from opening your bulldog while at a rest stop or having lunch in a place.

No, but I recognize the locking pin as the mechanism we use to secure our propane tanks. Didn't even look in there. Mysteries solved and got a few good tips on securing the Bulldog hitch. Thank you community!

One other takeaway is that I can put the cotter pin in with my other spare parts (fuses, etc). It doesn't need to be on the keyring.

If the trailer has a propane tank lock (it locks the big wing nut that secures the tanks) it looks similar to this lock.
