  1. I would have agreed with this statement up to the point when a couple of years ago I was taking a shower after a day of fishing in Yellowstone. As I was drying off, I looked out my partially opened bathroom window and there was a young boy of about 8 or 9 years old staring back at me. While he was NOT tall enough to be able to see "anything", I could not help but to think about this kid going back to his parents and telling them that some old guy had just "flashed" him. So, I immediately got to work on making a curtain for that little window! Bill

  2. Despite the faulty switch, our new Oliver is highest quality camper I've every been in. Many years ago we rented a couple RVs. They got us there and back again, but they were garbage. We've owned a Scamp trailer for 9-10 years, but we have completely outgrown it. That Scamp is a joy, but sadly we've put so many rough miles on it, is has basically rattled away into a bucket of parts. One foot into the Oliver made it clear to me that it is another step in quality above the Scamp. 99% of RVs out there are complete junk. And while I can't know that I won't stumble onto another problem, I can't wait to bounce down rough roads with such a solidly built trailer.

  3. I have no reason to doubt Anita, she was transparent and honest when we began the order process some 5 years ago. Even if everything checked out on final inspection, things happen. After delivery your Oliver is going to bounce around as you travel and things loosen, dislodge, etc. Travel trailers, even if perfect when delivered, will develop issues. With Oliver you’ve got pretty instant response from the service guys, not something you find elsewhere. Mike

  4. It is not much help - but I have offered rv space on my property to a few traveling Oliver owners. (just hit me up - we are in Mid TN.) Water and sewer, and with a little Macgyver-ing, 120 service. Any port in a storm - six foot rule - not with standing.

  5. Here is a continually updated STATE by STATE guide of closures and restrictions, courtesy of Campendium (a great app)... "Some parks and campgrounds are closing or changing their procedures for camping due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. If you would like to add info or a place to this list, please submit closures here: Campendium Form. During this time, campground policies are changing quickly. It is wise to call ahead before traveling to your destination." Campground Closures and Responses by State There is a long Corona Virus (Covid-19) discussion in the GENERAL FORUM .... please post general info and chat there. ... https://olivertraveltrailers.com/forums/topic/4016-sars-cov-2covid-19-and-travel/ Thanks, John E Davies Spokane WA

  6. January 5 2018 I bought my Oliver for work. I live and work from the Oliver 3 to 7 days a week. February 2018 a horrible smell develop, and I discovered a small leak from the joint at the connection next to the black tank; just a drip. Called Rich and Phil about my problem, and they said they would call me back. When they called back, Rich and Mr. Oliver where on speaker phone, and said "How can we make this right?". I said "I want this fixed with the least inconvenience for me as possible". Rich said "We can bring you an Oliver to live-in while we fix yours, or put you up in a local hotel until we can get yours back to you". I realized at that moment why I bought an Oliver. 1 year 5 months, 10 years to go. Dr. Donald C. Neal with no mechanical skills what so ever.

  7. It sounds like you've pretty much got it: You need a generator to run AC off the grid. Short answer is yes. If you opt for the MicroAir soft start, then you can run your AC off of a smaller generator or even your batteries for a very short time. You need two 2000w generators if you want to run AC and something else at the same time. It depends on what else you want to run, but I think most people's experience is that you can't run the AC and the Microwave together, for example. I think most just switch off the AC while they use the MW. Some parks won't let you run your generator at certain times. Is this common? Oh yes. So, no AC at night unless you are hooked up to power, Wondering if parks in the warmer climates let you run your generator at night if its 90 degrees? Correct. I can't say I've really paid attention if they have different summer hours. If you are hooked up to a 30 amp. are you using any of your battery power for other stuff. For practical purposes, no. If you are hooked up to 30 amp. and run your AC all night do your batteries get charged at the same time? Yes, the AC will only pull about half the available power when its compressor is running, and the surplus will go to the batteries and anything else you're running. Thinking with today's technology that much of the power identification is automatic but this is all new to me. Do you have to manually flip switches to tell system if its using solar, battery, or ...not sure what you call it, shore power, park power, grid power. The only thing that you'll have to manually turn on and off would be the inverter, which you'll use when not plugged in. But even that will be automatically bypassed when you plug in, so you don't have to worry about damaging anything if you forget to turn it off. Shore power is the right term - we're all sailors at heart, I guess. Can I get by with just one 2000w to run the AC with the soft start up? Yep, that's the main advantage of having the soft start.

  9. The only thing I dislike about covers, is they are like wrestling with an elephant. Things you need are tall ladders and a wife that feel comfortable on one. My wife is considering the $15,000 wood cover option, so far we don't have a cover as of yet, but she is winning so far. trainman

  10. Mike, We appreciate your reassuring thoughts. Your right things do bounce around and loosen up when rolling or in transport. And yes Anita has been very honest and transparent with us, we enjoyed our time spent with her. We also have no doubts that Oliver will make things right should we have an issue. However, reading about issues on new Oliver trailers soon after purchase admittedly does shake our confidence level a lot. -Patriot -Patriot

  11. Overland I’m not surprised you said this you always seem to be on the defensive for Oliver. I’m content that My issues were resolved. And there were many. What has irked me the most, my decision to buy was based on the Oliver video claiming several QC checks at each step of the process. And then a final QC inspection at the end before its released for delivery. They also claimed the same at the factory tour showing the inspection sheets they use. If this was half true major problems should have been avoided. I’m sure some of the problem is there under the gun pumping out more units than ever before but still not a valid excuse.

  12. I have read some of the comments, and was surprised that I have one of the "terrible 200's". I don't feel that way about our unit at al!. We read the forums before ordering and decided that we wanted the Ez-Flex system which was optional. It is now standard. We added a 4" marine hatch to our propane cover, so we didn't have to take the cover off. They now put in a 6" hatch as standard. Our porch light has occasional black streaks. They changed the product supplied to them and newer units have no problems with them. Our unit had a drawer problem from too short a screw supplied by the drawer maker. The factory corrected it and those affected. All the while as they geared up production to almost double the assembly, they cared about the existing customer. if I can't pull a switch and ascertain it is bad, or put a panel back up, over some wires that vibrated loose, what will I ever do when time to figure how to dump? Or need to sanitize the fresh water tank, or winterize for a sudden storm coming? Or bring more fresh water through the outside port? We took these things as learning experiences as we learned about our unit and grew with them. As we encountered, an opportunity, and discussed it with the Oliver staff, we think we learned from the experience, and maybe more important, so did they. The listened to us...

  13. gatorewc - Not having the lights work took a bit of shine off the new trailer, but as I said above the hull and frame is amazing. As someone mentioned above it is possible the switch was working during qc checks, but failed later (during the road trip out here). If this is the only problem I have, I won't mind. It wil be hard to test everything until winter ends.

  14. Update: With OTT's help I was able to determine the 'Master Switch' is bad. Therefore, it will be an easy fix. They will send to me a new switch in the mail, along with a cover to the light in closet which is missing. The switch turns on two circuits simultaneously. The current switch fails to close one circuit. By jumping across the switch I was able to confirm that all my lights work. To other 2020 E2 owners, I learned that the wiring schemes are a bit different from early 2020 to later 2020 trailers with regard to the lights. In the end, slot 12 is now used for some lighting, but mine wasn't wired this way despite the new labeling. Also, they should label the in interior courtesy light switch it just sits there all alone on the wall below the pantry. This is especially true since the 2020 manual says that the switch is located on the Main Switch panel instead of its true (and better location) near the pantry. On to testing other systems ...

  15. Adco also makes custom RV covers from Sunbrella fabric. I've owned both over the years and strongly believe that the CalMark covers are better - and slightly more expensive. The reinforcing webbing that CalMark uses decreases the pressure on the fabric thus makes the cover stronger and longer lasting. Also, the CalMark has a "draw-string" in the hem at the bottom which allows you to tighten the cover around the bottom without the need for additional rope underneath. The only real problem with both covers is the weight. Getting the cover to the top of the Oliver (or any RV for that matter) can be a bit of a challenge - particularly if you try putting the cover on by yourself. However, I've never really had a problem taking the cover off given the smoothness and shape of the Ollie. I know that CalMark has the dimensions of the Oliver and, therefore, does not need you to measure yours for them. I would guess that Adco also has these measurements but do not know this for sure. If you have any other questions, fire away. Bill

  16. Yep, Calmark is the go to brand. They're not cheap, but the quality is top notch and the sunbrella fabric can't be beat.

  17. Calmark makes a custom fitted cover, they are expensive to the tune of around $900 plus shipping. topgun2 has one and might chime in on his ownership pros/cons. Here is the linky... https://calmarkcovers.com

  18. I took my EII back to Oliver due to a non-working furnace, and had a few minor issues addressed. Other than the drive time to and from, (left the unit there) and the actual waiting for the time slot, I was extremely pleased with the service. Ritchie and his team took care of my issues. I doubt any other RV manufacturer would be as responsive. One thing that should be considered - for the premium price we pay for our Oliver's, top notch customer service should be a given, and I am pleased that is the case.

  19. Access to the black tank is pretty good, all the downstream connections are wide open under the front dinette area. I personally would never travel to TN for a simple repair like that. Can you post a pic of what is leaking? If it is the flexible rubber slip joint you can try tightening the hose clamps. I would also check the ones on the smaller grey water line and at the back of the tank itself. That might take care of it. Five minute job, max, once you find a screwdriver... John Davies Spokane WA
