Because most of the better bike racks come with 2" receivers, and customers who buy better trailers tend to also buy better bike racks.4 points

Really good pointers. I ordered the Pur filter John suggested already. The reason i am considering the dual stage filtration is to use in iffy boondocking situations. While the system will be regularly "shocked" to clen out critters, I feel it may be worth the effort to prevent that sort of contamination from happening in the first place. Ctshort09, do you think the on board pump would have the suction to pull water through a 50' hose and dual filtration system? This could be a likely scenario if grabbing water fron a stream or lake. I would assume that pump is more appropriate to the short hose (with standard el cheapo RV filter) scenario you described. Susan, thanks much on the reassurance on the on board surge protector. Really great to know it will shut things down when needed. I will have a small genarator and opted for the impressively pricey lithium based solar package, so should be good to go. BTW, 2020 still offers a solid solar system federal tax deduction which, as far as my research shows, does not depend on the trailer being claimed as a second home. 26% if memory serves me well. We are slated to pick up just 3 days before you. Not sure how long we will be at the campground but lets keep in touch. It would be great to meet you. The goat head is part of my business logo. I have an ocean based, rough water instructional and event thingy: Surf, rock gardening and tide race play. Some of the folks I work with call my an old mountain goat (I used to teach mountaineering). Thanks for all the input. More newbie questions to follow.1 point

And, I would add that having a 2 inch receiver makes it easier to take that 2 inch bike rack off the Ollie and put it directly on the receiver of the tow vehicle. But, to suggest the change "was a lot cheaper to produce" due the 1.5 inch hitches versus the 2 inch or to "Artificially limit what we use our for" seems a bit unfair to me. And, from what I know presently, I agree with katanapilot regarding the choice of batteries but I did say "on average" basically due to that very issue. Bottom line is that if I were to get the bike rack option, I too would prefer the 2 inch versus the 1.5 inch. I simply don't believe that either of the two statements I refer to is entirely fair to Oliver. Bill1 point

John, Thank you for your reply. I have noted that hydraulic crimper. I still need to choose cable, lugs and tie downs. bhcnb posted a link to imperial supplies which has quite a selection. I had my Progressive Dynamics module replaced under warranty last year and the new module is Li compatible according to Progressive support team. Otherwise I would only get small portion of the new Lithium battery filled when attached to shore power. The ZAMP controller will support Lithium as well with a small adjustment to the settings. I will be in Hohenwald next week but unfortunately they will not be able to do a Li retrofit yet (2021). I will ask them to check out the charging system, if that is not part of the annual service.1 point

I can easily overload my entire trailer, use a dangerous tow vehicle, fail to configure my brake controller, fail to inspect and maintain wheels, etc... Artificially limiting what we can use our receiver for is pretty silly given the already high level of potential danger involved in towing. Oliver should simply put a load sticker on it like everything else and give responsible owners a 2 inch receiver.1 point

Just a few thoughts. Have you actually gone out and measured the voltage of each individual battery? Have you checked all the battery terminals and made sure they are not corroded or loose? Are the lights dim? Will the tongue jack lift the trailer when plugged in vs not plugged in? I am not familiar with the current wiring layout, but I believe that the problem will turn out to be a connection issue. This one reason I've never been a fan of the Zamp system. What are the amps doing? With no shunt and no way to monitor anything other than volts, it's very difficult to tell what's going on.1 point

From what little I know on that subject - it is NOT true. I was told that the reason for reducing the size was concern that users of the 2 inch receiver were more likely to overload the assembly's posted limits. Certainly this overloading, not reading of posted limits COULD have led to litigation, but, to my knowledge, it never did. I believe that Oliver was simply being conservative and cautious by reducing the size of the receiver. Bill p.s. perhaps the words "possible litigation" was what meant?1 point

Forgot this important fact, if you do have a dead battery, you can disconnect it and one more battery, and connect the remaining two good ones to make a single 12 volt source, essentially you have half a battery bank. It will work perfectly fine, but you shouldn’t try to run your inverter with a high draw device like the microwave or a hair dryer with this setup. It might be enough to get you home safely, without curtailing your vacation trip. Maybe find an RV shop or mobile RV tech, to check things for you.... John Davies Spokane WA1 point

Welcome . . . . . you'll be right behind us. We pick our Elite II up on December 7! You've done the right thing by joining this forum . . . . . . what an awesome group of folks ❤️ Also, take advantage of the Oliver University on Oliver's webpage where you'll find manuals for all the Oliver components. Don't be afraid to ask questions. . . . . . there is always someone willing to answer . . . . . and one day, you'll be the one answering the questions. And, if you make your way to the Pacific Northwest, we've been most everywhere in Oregon so can steer you to some great boondock, USFS, BLM, etc campgrounds (once the fires are out and the forests open back up). Welcome back, it has been a while. Glad to hear things worked out. I went back and re-read the entire thread, lots of good information here. Mike1 point

John, On the few occasions I need to use a generator, to charge the batteries, I want to do it as quickly as possible. I hate the sound of a generator. Andrew1 point

Welcome back, for “removable” sealer I much much prefer this: https://www.amazon.com/3M-Marine-Adhesive-Sealant/dp/B07MMTDZGR You can make very neat lines using blue masking tape, smooth the bead down with a gloved finger, remove tape. Pretty. It kicks off in the tube after a few months, so plan on a new one if yours gets a little old. We néed pictures. John Davies Spokane WA1 point

Yes, nice to have you back in the saddle. What an ordeal but it is gratifying to hear that all has turned out well in the end. With regards to your numbers - give Jason or Anita a shout and I'm sure that they can get the size(s) and font for you. Bill1 point

John The mainstream RV wiring are like rats nests Airstream included Oliver has the best wiring I’ve seen. I’ll admit wiring is one of my weak points. The Oliver is easy traceable A least my 2019 Ollie is.1 point

We get the HH news letter and I read the recall list. Quite long. We’re going on five years and we haven’t had any expenses other than normal maintenance (bearings, brake wear, etc). We had some warranty items but Oliver covered the expense for them or they corrected the issue. At this point, looking back, I’m not sure an extended warranty would have been worth the cost.1 point
