  1. I agree with you 80%. Though it does sound like you had the wrong fridge. I think that compressor fridges have a marginal value over 3-ways, but only if your particular needs fall in the areas where they excel. And, only if you're willing to up your electrical storage and solar to match their consumption, because they will definitely pull some power - and it's a power drain that you can't just cut off if you're low on battery. It would be nice if Oliver could offer a compressor fridge as an option for those who want them. So, get one if you want one, but don't if you don't. IMO, for the same expense and work, adding a nice compressor fridge/freezer in your tow vehicle will add far more value, and will really impact the way you travel.

  2. The back screen attaches differently than the larger side screens. The back screen has four little clips that attach to the window frame. It doesn’t really slide. The side screens have a compressible piece that fits inside the window track allowing it to slide. You can see the difference if you look closely at how they attach. I remove and clean the screens a few times a year while I clean out the window tracks, you get used to taking them out and putting them back in. Mike

  3. I didn't want to cut and have the drill twist up into the insulation so I just peeled it back to find the center and used some spray adhesive to put it back when the job was completed.

  4. Nope. If water is getting into the tank from the city water port, it has to get through either the valve or the pump. That, or your ports are mislabelled.

  5. Get the anti-freeze kit. Not only will it help when traveling through cold weather, but it comes with a plug for the exhaust that can serve double duty keeping insects out during storage.

  6. I would like to weigh in on this conversation having owned a compressor fridge back in the days we had our T@b before purchasing the Oliver. Let me just cut to the chase and say I hated that compressor fridge, it was a Dometic. I would never do another compressor fridge based upon that experience, and in fact it was so bad I ended up taking the darn thing out of camper and using the space for more storage. FWIW we have camped at high altitudes and never had an issue with our 3-way fridge in the Oliver and the freezer keeps my home made ice cream frozen solid. Just a few weeks ago we were camped at 8,000 feet for an entire week with no issues what so ever, and its dead quiet compared to an RV compressor fridge. In addition we have towed well over 20K miles using the auto setting on the 3-way and even with extremely steep, out of level ascents and descents out west the fridge has never cut off. While I always make an effort to have our Oliver level I also think people are making a mountain out of a mole hill regarding the leveling use of propane for the cooktop, furnace and fridge. On numerous occasions while stopped and way out of level all components worked just fine and again regardless of altitude. For anyone thinking they are going to obtain the home equivalent of a Bosch, LG, Samsung, GE compressor type fridge made for the RV industry is in for a rude surprise. They are noisy and very inefficient compared to the high quality versions made for the home. There really is no comparison in this regard. I certainly don't mean this as a diss on SeaDawg for their apparent success which seems to be very positive, but it certainly is not a route I would take or suggest. From my perspective there is a reason why 3-way fridge's are so prevalent in the RV industry. Hope this helps.

  7. I am known for asking silly questions, so please don’t be offended. When I look at the 2017 plumbing diagrams, I don’t see how the water from the city water inlet can reach the freshwater tank unless the valves are in the wrong configuration, they are defective or it is flowing backwards through the pump. Am I missing something? Mossey

  8. We did our own install. Not difficult, for us. It is not noisy, at all. I hear the fridge more outside the trailer, than inside. Inside, I hear a tiny ping, when it starts up, and a quiet hum, depending on where I am in the trailer. If anything, at all, in the bed. Why do you want a compressor fridge? We replaced our 3way because it died, and the compressor fridge was the easiest swap for us. It does stress power requirements, if you live on solar, as we do. We use 60 to 70 amp hours a day, just for the fridge. Do we love it? Yes. Would we do it again? Yes. Would i replace a working 3way? No. Our fridge is a truckfridge tf130, similar but much less pricey than a marine indel (same compressor and body) stainless of same size. We like it, because it works. Cons, much more power draw than a 3way.

  9. I haven’t seen many Ollie mods posted in awhile. I thought I’d share one of several i did recently. while camping with full hookup i keep my grey water valve open. I didn’t like the idea of having the basement door open while the valve was open. And having the valve open slightly With the door closed didn’t seem like a good idea. The pictures show what i came up with. Just a note. This access hatch is stainless steel one of the reasons for it, was its a 3in opening smallest available. All the white plastic versions are 4in and larger. I will say it does look good in stainless. Install was straight forward a 3in hole saw stainless hardware, measured 90 times then measured another 90. Wiped the sweat of my head and did it. My first major cut into Ollie.

  10. We're Todd and Laurie Hoffman from Maryland, !1August 2021, Hull 1131 well be ours next June 2022, Hopefully time well fly by until then! It well be our 3rd RV, Really impressed with the Build quality, hopefully Oliver well keep it up! unlike all the best of the company's out there. Love the dry camping potential ! still debating lithium pro vs lithium platinum though. really like the large reserve of the platinum setup and ability to run the AC as needed. We look forward to joining the Oliver get-togethers and meeting other Oliver owners!

  11. Hello! We picked up our new trailer on Friday and just wanted to join the discussion. At some point, I’ll figure out how you all add tow vehicle specs at the bottom of these posts. Also, can someone point me towards an insect screen that works for the Truma? This could probably be in the delivery section but I’ll add a pic here.

  12. If they are in your area, Discount Tire can order the AT3 XLTs and you probably will not find a better price. I have not driven in rain yet with mine. But I don’t see why they would not do well. John Davies Spokane WA

  13. I know this response is late to the party, but I don't know of a single Oliver employee that owns an Oliver TT. There are several trailers that are owned by the corporation.

  14. I'm sorry -- I don't recall. The fridge was purchased for, and installed in, our 2008 Sprinter. So about 13 years old...

  15. That's good to know. The one I have on my spare is the LT vs the XLT. Looking at them online, I think the only difference is the added sidewall protection. I think I'd like that, but I can't find anyone online selling them. 😒

  16. We too had a small Dometic compressor fridge in our van prior to the LE2. I found it to be noisy, and thought that the LE2's 3-way Norcold would be a big upgrade. The Norcold does keep food cold, and I like the freezer, but dislike the exhaust smell when getting in and out of the trailer, and the noise when sitting under the awning. I'm wondering if it would be possible for Oliver design for and construct an exhaust vent further up on the roof (like Airstreams, for example).

  17. I do not have a composting toilet so there is a lot about them that I don’t know. But the one thing I do know and that’s the exhaust tubing is the ugliest thing in an Oliver. I always thought that if I moved to a composting toilet, I would try running the tubing through the floor and over to the vanity. Now I’ll ask if that’s even feasible? Looking at Overland’s pictures, I can’t tell if there is room to run the tubing along the grey water drain pipe back below the toilet. Mossey

  18. Great thread Bill. I hope I can remember how to find it when I do need to get in that silly cabinet. It's annoying that it's so very sealed. But, I bet it won't leak inside the cabinet.

  19. Read this thread. My original cartridge was leaking. I replaced it and have not had any more problems.

  20. We had lots of rain the last two months as we went to Maine and back. The trailer tires did just fine in the rain. Overall, I’m really happy with them. Looking at them for my truck, only in something like 35X12.5. I have 20” wheels now, but am looking at going down to 18”.

  21. @routlaw, that's not a diss, it's offering your experiences, which is what Southbird was looking for. I am surprised that your Dometic was so noisy. I wonder if it used a different type of compressor? Most marine brands (vitrofrigo, isotherm, etc.) and truckfridge use the Danfoss/secop compressor. Or, if you had a bum fridge. I've never seen or heard a Dometic 12v running, so I couldn't comment there. I, too, think folks get a bit carried away with the leveling for the 3ways. Pretty much, if you're comfortable in the trailer, the fridge is fine. I think our Dometic manual said either 4 or 6 degrees out of level was OK, and we never had any problems in the mountains, either. In many ways, the 3way can be the ideal boondocking fridge, as it doesn't use much dc power running on gas.

  22. Most folks add insect screens to appliance openings (hot water, furnace, fridge). In some areas of the nation we have to deal with mud dabblers, wasps, etc that like to get in and build nests. Most screens can be purchased off Amazon or at Camping World. It is not specific to the Truma. Mike

  23. That’s not my problem the overflow and drain line exit just to the rear of the steps the video that you sent would indicate a leak on the left rear probably indicating a broke closed valve on the city water hock up

  25. Wasn't sure where to place this post, but here it is. Just something for newbie (myself included) to look for. I didn't notice these metal shavings before returning from last weeks camping trip. Didn't see them when we took delivery in May. I imagine they made their way to the end of the channels after a few recent miles on a very bumpy road. Yesterday I dropped the rear compartment door to add an additional hose and I noticed metal shavings on both sides. I don't know if this is normal or an oversight in quality control, but it would of been nice if Oliver had ran a vacuum in there before delivery.

  27. I replaced the stock Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza Plus (4-ply rated) all-season tires on my 2020 RAM 1500 with Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3 (10-ply rated) all-terrain tires in preparation for towing our LE2. They have a little over 1000 miles on them at this point. The stiffer sidewalls make the steering a bit crisper, but not at the expense of ride quality. I was initially concerned about the more aggressive tread pattern being noisy, but I can't discern any significant difference compared to the original all-season tires. I've only used Michelin tires on all my vehicles for many years, and was planning to buy 10-ply rated Michelin LTX A/T2's for the RAM, but they have been unavailable for many months, so I took a chance on the Bridgestone, and I'm glad I did.

  28. Just removed all metal shavings from my Elite 1 by using a small diameter 8’ flexible plastic rod with a hunk of Duct tape on the end ~ worked just fine.

  29. I just replaced the BF Goodrich tires on my trailer with the same Coopers that Oliver is now using. I’m very pleased. Over on the Ram HD forum many members are huge Cooper fans. As soon as I get a few more miles on the Goodyears that came on my truck I’m going to replace them with Coopers. Mike

  31. Welcome and congrats on your upcoming Oliver. Good advice from LongStride. Plan a few days at pick up to check things out before leaving the Hohenwald area. We’ve had almost 6 years of fun traveling all over this great country in our Oliver. Mike

  32. No but I built a couple of Pygmy kayaks (they're based in Port Townsend, WA) which was a rewarding project. They use stitch and glue technique with marine plywood, and the result was a pair of very seaworthy, light, and pretty boats.

  33. We have not been outside of Tupelo since returning from Quartzsite and California in late January. We've not been inside a restaurant. We have not been inside anyone's home including our children/grandchildren's. No one has been inside our home. We have taken the pandemic very seriously but we will be attending the gathering at Lake Guntersville in September. just like ourselves, I know anyone planning to attend will have thought long and hard about that decision. We plan on using good common sense and all appropriate precautions will be taken including masks and distancing. I think that most everyone is thinking along these same lines and I believe we can all have a good and safe experience.
