Overland Posted April 17, 2019 Posted April 17, 2019 Oliver vs Unimog, Angel’s Peak BLM campground south of Farmington NM. Nice couple from the Netherlands touring north and South America. Great free campground about 6 miles down a well maintained gravel road. Nine sites, I think, most of which are better separated than these two. But these are the two with a view so it’s a decent trade. On the other hand, the wind is gusting to 40 now so after a quick hike we’re hunkered down inside. Maybe the wind will blow all this dust off... 2

John E Davies Posted May 4, 2019 Author Posted May 4, 2019 Yesterday I stayed one night at my favorite COE campground, Hunters Campground on Lake Roosevelt, in northeast WA. Cost was $9 with the Geezer Pass. I got site 22 which is one of half a dozen right along the beach. The place was practically deserted, due to chilly temps, school in session and a huge Spokane fun run scheduled for Sunday (the Lilac Bloomsday Run) which has kept a lot of folks near town. Up to 60,000 folks will run, walk or roll in a chair, not me, but my wife has entered..... https://www.nps.gov/laro/planyourvisit/cg-hunters.htm I found another use for the Stone Stomper. Stephen and Kelly Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Fogo Island, Newfoundland – July, 2017 – with my own personal iceberg. My wife and I just recently got back from a trip to Newfoundland (where I am from). We spent a day driving up to Bonavista and saw several campers docked cliff-side in fields just off the road overlooking the ocean and watching the whales swim past. There is no doubt that our Oliver will make an appearance up there in the near future. 4

ADKCamper Posted September 27, 2019 Posted September 27, 2019 Blue Ridge Parkway, Rockfish Gap VA to Cherokee NC, April 2019 Great drive with lots of scenic views and very little traffic this time of year. Almost all of the on-parkway visitor centers and campgrounds were still closed, but we had no problem finding campgrounds just off-parkway. ADKCamper Posted September 27, 2019 Posted September 27, 2019 Hah - That's pretty funny! We spent 8 days on the Blue Ridge Parkway, staying at four different campgrounds, for 2 nights each. We moved the trailer every other day to a different campground further down the parkway. On the alternating days we ranged 50-75 miles up or down the parkway with just our tow vehicle, revisiting some of the more interesting sounding overlooks that were not visible when we went by them the first time, or hopping off the parkway for attractions that required more time to absorb than we were willing to commit to on days when we were relocating the trailer to the next campground. Maybe not the most efficient approach, but definitely more relaxing than breaking camp every day... 1 Tom & Holly 2018 Oliver Legacy Elite I #409 - 2017 Silverado 1500, 5.3L Gas, 4x4 Z71, Dbl Cab, Std Bed
JMSpoff Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 Had a great trip at the end of 2018 through Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, New York (Niagara Falls, Lake Erie), Acadia National Park, Boston, Arizona (Grand Canyon and Chiricahua National Monument). Spent 14 days boon docking in the red rocks region behind Sedona AZ that was a lot of fun. Thought I'd share these shots of the Ollie in the wild. We had a blast and plan to do Utah, AZ (again), Quartzite, Tennessee and Alabama (rally time :)) starting in January at quartzite. John E Davies Posted May 9, 2020 Author Posted May 9, 2020 (edited) I thought I would revive a stale thread. I was rotating tires today, checking brakes, doing the Dexter brake recall and other stuff and decided to eliminate the chrome wheel bullets: I never cared for them- they are way too long, they dent and they look dorky IMHO. Now I can easily check hub temperature, pop the rubber plug to inspect the condition of the grease, and pop the cap to adjust a slightly loose bearing without removing the wheel. Also it is a little easier installing the lug nuts. The new bearing caps are stainless steel so they will not rust, and the paint is Duplcolor ceramic brake caliper paint. Very good paint, no primer needed, fast drying and very tough! They also offer the paint in red (the fastest color for sporty cars) and silver, if you wanted to make the hub blend in with the wheel. My Land Cruiser has no center caps, now the trailer matches. I am sure it will be faster now 😀 John Davies Spokane WA Edited May 9, 2020 by John E Davies 3 SOLD 07/23 "Mouse": 2017 Legacy Elite II Two Beds, Hull Number 218, See my HOW TO threads: Tow Vehicle: 2013 Land Cruiser 200, 32” LT tires, airbags, Safari snorkel, Maggiolina Grand Tour 360 Carbon RTT.

I don’t want to derail this Ollie photo thread, but to answer your question our understated swooshes which we like and preferred are silver met and yes we felt that 4 days was long enough for our shake down. In the sun the silver met swoosh’s are really very light colored and matches our Tundra paint as close to perfect as we could ask for. We farm blueberries aka (super food) on a small scale, so we needed to get back home to the Blue Ridge foothills and get super busy. Leaving on a Saturday was perfect as the weekend campers were all settled in and we had the road(s) for the most part to ourselves. Hohenwald is only 450 mi from our home. A great trip home through Tenn and Western NC. We are fortunate to be able to park our Oliver at our home. 2 2020 OLEII - Hull #634 aka- “XPLOR” TV 2021 F350 6.7 liter Diesel Lariat Ultimate Tremor Retro upgrades - Truma Aventa 13.5 AC, Alcan 5 leaf pack, Alcan HD shackles & HD wet bolts, 5200lb never lube axles. John E Davies Posted May 13, 2021 Author Posted May 13, 2021 I bought Timken wheel bearings quite a while ago and finally got started on replacing the old ones. I always hand-packed bearings, what a mess that makes. I finally decide to treat myself to a Lisle Handy Packer. No more messes. Well, at least they are not as big.
