Galway Girl Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 I’ve done a modification to add an Optronics 7-Way trailer harness plug protector. Here’s the link to the part I used from e-trailer.(Including shipping and tax < $10 https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Plug-Covers/Optronics/ACP7B.html 7 Way Plug Protector - by Optronics And here’s where I mounted it…on the back of my Tongue Box. I used stainless #10 bolts to mount the unit. It could be mounted with zip ties to the bottom of the tongue as well if you don’t want to drill holes. The cover is a semi rigid type of rubber material but with enough flex to make it easy to insert or remove with one hand. In any case, I switched to this after my original “rubber cover” leaked. 2 2019 Elite II (Hull 505 - Galway Girl - August 7, 2019 Delivery) Tow Vehicle: 2021 F350 King Ranch, FX4, MaxTow Package, 10 Speed, 3.55 Rear Axle Batteries Upgrade: Dual 315GTX Lithionics Lithiums - 630AH Total Inverter/Charger: Xantrex 2000Pro Travel BLOG: https://4-ever-hitched.com
Townesw Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 @Galway Girl How has this Optronics 7 pin plug holder worked out? I read some reviews that said it was hard to get the plug in the holder and some reviews that said that the “latch” wouldn’t hold the plug if mounted vertically. Jim_Oker Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 Ours is working fine. I used 3M VHB tape to mount it to the cargo box instead of bolts. I used the primer that 3M sells for the tape on both the plastic holder and the metal cargo box. It's been holding up quite well thus far. It is a nice low-stakes test of using VHB tape on the outside and w/o any caulking to protect it - 3M says this is usable "indoors or outdoor" and that it "Creates a permanent seal against water, moisture and more." 1 1 Jim and Yanna, Woodinville WA 2004 Ford E250 camper conversion Oliver Elite II hull #709

We haven't had either issue (and ours is indeed mounter vertically so as to make it tough for any water to get into the open end of the plug) 1 Jim and Yanna, Woodinville WA 2004 Ford E250 camper conversion Oliver Elite II hull #709

Keeps water out, and no problems with plug retention. 1
dewdev Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 I have a 7 pin plug holder mount on the front of the storage box which I do not use. The previous owner told me a no cost option. Tuck the 7 pin plug in between the fiberglass shell in front of the propane tanks and the frame of the trailer (the fiberglass shell is the one you can see in FrankC's picture.) This location works great, the plug stays in place and no moisture or water gets into the plug. 1 2018 Oliver Elite II, Twin Bed, Hull #354 2024 RAM 1500, 4 x 4; Gas. 5.7L V8 Hemi MDS VVT Torque; 3.21 rear axle ratio w/TIMBREN spring rear suspension Maine
taylor.coyote Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 Yep, had bugs living in my 7 pin plug . this was the catalyst for me to get a plug storage cover. this option is a no drill solution that installs with worm screws that tighten the bands around your front jack. takes 5 minutes the install. its clean and works well https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MFFC0IU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Click image to open expanded view 2 2 2016 Legacy Elite II, Twin Beds, Hull #124 Tow Vehicle: 2019 Ford F250 4x4 / Short Bed / Crew Cab / 6.7 Diesel Fieldbrook, Ca

We bought one; attached it to the tongue (we don't have the storage basket) with zip ties, to see how it worked. My husband doesn't like that the holder fills up with road dirt while traveling. Unless you wash it out before storing the plug, the dirt transfers to the plug. He thinks there are better ways to store the plug and protect it from the elements. 1 Ray and Susan Huff Elite II Twin "Pearl" - Hull#699; delivered December 7, 2020 2013 F350 6.7l diesel Super Duty 4x4 long bed crew cab 1UP-USA Heavy-duty bike rack 2017 Leisure Travel Van Unity Twin Bed (sold)

Some of the time, I see these mounted the other way around and that is definitely a problem. So the protective cover needs a protective cover. ThomB87 Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 Maybe because mind is attached to the basket and higher up than the tongue, but I have no issues with dirt or other debris when traveling. Bill Thomas 2019 Elite II Hull # 534 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500

We have yet to encounter that issue. Possibly having mounted it to the rear side of the storage tray rather than to the tongue has helped, or perhaps we'll see more of this when we spend more time on dirty wet roads. 1 Jim and Yanna, Woodinville WA 2004 Ford E250 camper conversion Oliver Elite II hull #709
LongStride Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 The one that attaches to the jack post with plastic worm gear clamps is a great option for those who shudder with trepidation at the thought of drilling holes into their Ollie. I have yet to drill a hole in mine, although I am certain the day will come sooner than later. Mike and Yasuko 2021 Legacy Elite Hull #820
