Beyond all the other weight ratings, truck mfgs specify a maximum Cargo Weight Rating for the bed area and a Center of Gravity range for load placement. When both are observed, overhang is accounted for. What they don't specified is a maximum trailer tongue load hanging off an unknown length hitch extension. Suspect neither RAM nor Ford would warranty either of these two failures. Always load your beer and ammo as far forward of the rear axle as possible.3 points

Thanks for all that replied. I was able to download the Xantrex app and set the "charger current" to 10 amps and was able to power up the AC using the Honda 2000 watt generator. This is a big deal since I don't have to carry the heavy Honda 3000 on trips anymore.1 point

I went out this morning to scrape off a dusting of new snow…… what did I find? Hmmmm. Not your normal vehicle, skinny tires, narrow track, and the driver goes in at out over the right front tire. https://japancardirect.com/blog/what-is-the-best-kei-truck-to-export-from-japan-part-4/ Sure enough, there was a package on the porch. No surprise here. It’s the same as registering any other vehicle here in PA. Have to pay sales tax, title fee, plate fee, etc at time of title registration. And PA also requires annual safety inspection of the trailer.1 point

We knew it was coming in CT, but your post is a good reminder for others to check their tax liability before taking delivery.1 point

Do you hear the click click of the furnace trying to light? Gas flow is okay? Are your new batteries AGMs too? Why did you need to charge them when you arrived at your site? When we had AGM’s they were always at or near full charge after the drive, combination of solar and truck charge. The furnace does not draw much from the batteries, basically just the fan. I’m confused as to what may be going on. Mike1 point

I expect most of the cost is the Texas use tax. Use tax is the way states collect tax on vehicles purchased in another state. Since the "sale" occurs outside the state, Texas cannot collect "sales" tax. But, if you want to "use" your trailer, you must license it, so states with sales tax normally tax the "use" of the vehicle at the same rate as if it was purchased in the state. If you lived in a state with no sales tax (like Oregon), you would normally pay no use tax. When you buy a vehicle in another state (like Tennessee), you are not required to pay Tennessee sales tax. But, you must pay use tax in the state in which you title and license the vehicle, in your case, Texas. We were not surprised by our high Idaho title, use tax and licensing fees, because we knew we were bound to pay the use tax when we titled our Oliver.1 point

It was. I encountered the same issue when winterizing our new Elite II a couple of weeks ago. I learned I had skipped a step. Try opening the cold external faucet valve, with the external faucet head button depressed and locked into the "on" position. Then pump. Once you see antifreeze coming out of the external faucet, stop pumping. There is no need to repeat with the hot water valve open. See the below video at 3:41.1 point

Double check all the valves under the bed to make sure they are all in the winterizing position, and make sure at least one faucet is open.1 point

The early original Elites had an awning exit window , not a slider. If it's a slider, like new trailers, window, there's a vertical divider in the middle. If it's an awning window, no divider, just a big single pane. I don't know the cutoff hull #. Either version is opening/operable whenever you wish. The red handles are for emergency use. They push the whole window out for emergency egress.1 point

I went with a 12ft high x 14ft wide and it is 30 ft long. I really like the 14 ft wide, for being able to work on the Oli and it gives me extra width for getting backed into place (still working on the backing skills). The extra height is also nice to get up on top. I had enough room I could have gone 36ft long, and I wish I had. When I was going over things with the contractor he told me that for resale I should do a 14ft high opening, and max the length out. We had set a financial limit on what we could spend on Oli, truck, RV port/garage, and accessories to get going. When it comes down to it, we hope this house will be our last, and we will never go with bigger RV/Trailer. I had a GMC greyhound bus conversion many years ago which was fun, and it had lots of room and storage. Although it was to big to get in placing that I can get the Oli into. We really like the Oli trailer setup better, and I no longer have to take care of a towed vehicle. So my decision for the RV garage was right for me. My Children will have to worry about resale in the future, I hope to be to darn old to worry about it. What I do regret is that 10 years ago I built a 10ft high x 24ft wide x 36ft deep garage with 2 stalls . I wish I would have be more forward thinking and built a 40ft wide x 36ft deep with 12-14ft height with 3 stalls. I would have saved 1/2 of the cost of the RV garage doing it all at once, and had more room. Good luck with your decisions.1 point

I designed a floor plan for a house we planned to build a couple of years ago. When the garage and adjoining shop reached almost 4000 square feet, I decided we probably didn't need to build an 8000 square foot house at our age. It would have been nice though.1 point

@Geronimo John Oh, it's real! Get a flashlight, and go stand next to the farthest tree out back. We'll chase 'em your way. 😉 But seriously, yes, this is how we do it all the time. Toss in entire ear of corn, and cook on high for four minutes times number of ears. Then chop off the stem end and squeeze the corn out from the other end. Almost no silk left, and perfect every time. As you've likely figured already, serving more than a few ears takes considerable time. You can cheat a little, cooking six ears 20 minutes, but not a lot less. More than that, we report to traditional boiling. This was the guy that became famous for figuring it out.1 point

Speak and ye shall receive … Merry Christmas. https://olivertraveltrailers.com/forums/topic/6892-how-to-connect-a-standard-sae-4-pin-harness-or-4-pin-with-backup-lights-to-your-oliver-factory-7-pin-wires/ Warning - the color coding may be different in your brand new trailer. An extra strong warning - do NOT cut open the light bar harness itself!!! The wires inside mine were incredibly tiny and treacherous to splice, maybe 30 AWG. My light bar works great. It is a very cool and sexy mod, even with nothing on the rack. John Davies Spokane WS1 point

Trailer Corn on Cob: I have always gently pulled down the leaves and removed the silk. Rinsed off the corn and re-layered the leaves, and secured with a rubber band. Then nuked them about 2 minutes rolled over and 90 seconds more. I have heard some just toss the whole ears of corn into the microwave and the result is the same with a LOT less effort. Is this a snipe hunting story or for real? If for real, seriously how do you do it? Thanks GJ1 point

When cooking for a small herd, I make them my Geronimo John International Cowboy Special: Pan fry well several cans of diced low sodium Spam with just a bit of butter. Drain well. Dice many pounds of potatoes and pan fry a bit crisp with some olive oil. Salt and Pepper. Mix Spam and Spuds in skillet and get it hot. Whip raw eggs and mix into hot skillet with the above. Mix some while cooking. Add lots of cheese, Pace Picante Sauce, and some sour cream on top. Then sprinkle Tabasco (Depending on the crowd: If children, about two drops. If Texan, a lot. If Cajun all you have!) You don't know how many times I have been asked where I got the delicious ham I used. Seriously.1 point

The attic and the storage compartment above the rear window are one in the same thing. Not being familiar with your Ollie - mine is a bunch older - are you sure that you're not confusing the little switch on the cable antenna booster box? The cable not connected to anything is most likely the other end of the satellite cable and is used to connect to a satellite decoder box. Bill1 point

We spent part of this past October in Cumberland Mountain State Park, just outside of Crossville, TN. There are 5 camping areas, we started in area 4 but moved to area 5 after one night. Area 5 is at the top of the hill and is a newer area. There are 4 or 5 FHU sites in area 5. We had W/E. Our site in area 4. Older, lots of trees and shade. Our site in area 5. Nicely spaced with a view of the sky! Campground chef. Checking out the fall color.1 point

We use X-chocks as well and also added them to our arrival/departure checklists. They do add noticeable stability to the Ollie. We like checklists and yes always use them thanks to my bride/copilot. Forgetting an installed X-chock would not turn out well at all.1 point
