  1. Water supplies that are not chlorinated will do that. Tanks that sit full for a long time without use especially so. Change the anode, flush well and treat. Drain, remove anode, flush and flush again, treat and flush again, install new anode, fill and burp (TP Valve on Top) before turning on!. Here is one I have used often in facilities maintenance: "Using a hydrogen peroxide solution of 2 pints 3% peroxide to 40 gallons of water, treat tank and run some of the solution into water lines. Let the peroxide solution set in tank and pipes for 2 hours. Solution is not toxic and requires no rinsing It kills off the bacteria." it says no flush necessary... but I flush it anyway. 2. Unfortunately, the disk kits are the long pole in the tent - out of our price point range... The larger 12" drums will suffice for our needs for some time. The additional/high cost for disks doesn't make up for the benefit gained in braking performance, maintenance, and overall peace of mind, IMO.

  5. I would pick a location where you want the freezer to sit and install one of these near it. You would probably want to run a new power line from the distribution center under the dinette to power only this receptacle. You can pick up the negative side from the buss bar under the aft dinette seat. You'll need a 1-1/8" hole saw to cut the mounting hole.

  6. Welcome Kathlyn! I head out every year with my Elite I and have stayed out traveling for stretches up to 7 months at a time. The 10lb dog and I enjoy the small spaces and, when befriending someone in a Class A motorhome, I'll sometimes tell them that "I have everything in my trailer you do, except the wasted space". (Hahahaaaa) I've also met more than a few full-timers in their sixties and seventies living in small trailers similar to ours. It is certainly doable, but, you may need to figure out how to dispose of a house and all of the accumulated "stuff" that has gathered over time. A life without lotsa "stuff" can be very freeing, mentally. Also, with some Google searches, you can find ways travelers handle their mail and establish a state residence for tax purposes. It is totally doable. Enjoy the journey . . .

  7. @Geronimo John - That's a Phase-3 upgrade for us down the road, amigo. The electric over hydraulic disk brake conversion kit's price point has skyrocketed over the years - a decent setup using the preferred Dexter K71-651-00 1600PSI brake actuator runs north of $1,100/wheel; can you spell, OUCH ? We're thinking the larger 12" drums on the new running gear will meet our braking needs and RV camping style for quite awhile. That said, the disk conversion will still stay on our radar, for sure. OBTW: We never come close to the 7k# max GVWR for our camping style, even in the winter months when carrying more gear. We encourage others to do the same, no matter what suspension upgrades are present. "Roll-On" and have fun out there, All! Cheers!

  12. Maybe I’ve just had bad luck, but I would delete a water heater entirely before going back to a tank style water heater. We had issues with the water reacting with the sacrificial anode that created h2s, so in the truck camper and the Airstream, we left the tanks drained and bypassed. For us, the Truma is a godsend.

  14. FWIW: We like the Suburban water heater. We're used to it, having had one on a couple previous rigs. For our style of camping, it's a nice benefit having that extra 6gal of water along for the ride. Easy enough to winterize, too - if that's in one's storage procedures. Occasionally, we've had to replace the AC and/or DC thermocouples - no biggie, cheap to do. We keep extras in the spares compartment. That said, since we've got no experience with the Truma system, we can't comment - but it would be nice for hot water on demand... @Going Coastal - Very glad you're in the "Happy Wife - Happy Life" mode, brother! It's the preferable mode to stay in, IMO. Thanks so much for posting your project, well done! Cheers!

  15. As they say, "you win some and lose some." I believe it was all the changes we went through on our trip getting here, but simply stated, we played like cr@p! We started the day losing but, in the end, we won big and had a great time at the tournament! We're thinking next year we'll just come to watch. They had a very short format for us amateur players. No time to get truly warmed up and play well. Long story short, we watched 4 great matches courtside. The best was a with an ATP tennis pro we have followed since he first turned pro as a teenager in 2011. Jack Sock was a recent great US tennis player. His highest ATP world ranking was #2 in doubles, #8 in singles, and he medaled in the 2016 Olympics for the US. He retired from tennis last year and he says his second career in pickleball will be all about having fun! What a great player, humble/polite guy (always takes his hat off when shaking hands at the end of a match) and crowd favorite as he kids with the crowd regularly. The pics will tell the story, but after catching an out ball, and a free Selkirk hat, Chris snapped the picture of me and Jack!

  20. For the most part - everything is possible... Just let your imagination and engineering skills mesh! HA! But seriously, it would be a cleaner mod, IMO, to leave the AC outlet as is - acquire a weatherproof outlet like one described in this thread, and install where you think you'll use it based on your personal camping style and needs... Actually, it might be cool to have both a 12vDC socket and a couple USB ports for charging access out of doors:

  26. We camped at Snow Canyon SP at St. George UT and Valley of Fire SP NV in September a few years ago. It was hot at both State Parks and had a wild rain/thunder/wind storm one night at Valley of Fire, but we did have shore power at both locations. Beautiful areas, hope the weather cooperates for the remainder of the trip!

  27. Chris and I met playing tennis in 1991, and 3 years ago we transitioned to Pickleball for the community and it's also a little easier on our older bodies! Chris has competed in a bunch of tournaments with her Ladies partner, and we have played a few mixed doubles together. Loved our visit to St George for this tournament last year and we are playing it again this week: Selkirk Red Rock Open in St. George, Utah | PPA Tour So, it had the makings of a great Oliver trip. Thought we would boondock a first night just 2 hours from home, then 2 nights at Valley of Fire Nevada on the way. Starting tomorrow, we will spend 3 nights at a St George RV park right in town to be close to the tournament. This was our first night, off Signal Rd in Wikieup AZ (pics below).

  28. I recently replaced our Truma aquago with a Suburban DEL hot water heater in our 2017 OE2. It wasn't that difficult of a project, but took a little time. A few things required: Spliced into fridge 110 line under sink w weatherproof box. John Davies created a very detailed post on this. The DEL model has both gas and electric switch inside the trailer...Installed switch where Truma switch was...had to run some wires to switch, then to HWH. Move gas line over as suburban is on opposite side of Truma. Overall, not a bad project and wife is happy to have hot water again!!!

  31. Hey, Rodger! Great move to decide coming back to the forums! Wow, Cavalon! -- Nice! Love the Rotax - Cavalon sports the 914, right? I fly a CT-22 with the Rotax 1630, fun stuff, for sure. Is yours the open/closed cockpit? Tandem/side-by-side? Just curious... You'll be interested to know there's owners living in Hawaii full-time and travels the US in their OTT during summer months, much like you've described you'll do from Thailand. Also, regarding finding an Oliver - you may have some luck on Facebook. There's usually several for sale here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/OliverforSale/ Good luck with your search and keep us posted with your OTT plans. Welcome back! Cheers...

  33. Nor has any other facility I've ever been to. Trailers in repair centers often get moved around, a lot. The most I've ever seen is a scrap of 2x6, to protect the center's floor, or asphalt in the parking lot.

  35. This is why I preach always use blocks under all three jacks. The service team should alway place a six inch block under the front jack foot when readying a trailer for pick-up.

  36. I too use blocks but they were not put back during pick up.

  37. For product details, go to powerwerx.com and search ‘environmental boot’. These boots are completely sealed when installed, front and back. Here is a pic of the ‘source side’ and ‘load side’ boots joined to power the DC-DC in the Oliver, the caps also mate up. Here is a pic of a plug extension wire (‘load side’ boot) I assembled to enable use of the bumper-mounted Anderson to operate my Dometic dual-zone staged under cap in the TV bed, as necessary.

  38. If you have the Isotherm Cruise 130, it draws an average of 400 watts per day, or 16.7 watts per hour, if what I have read is correct. Your 260AH batteries have 3,120 watt in them which will run this fridge for 7.8 days from 100% charge to 0%. Of course they would shut off before that to protect themselves. Your 240 watts of solar should produce 900 to 1500 watt-hours per day assuming it is sunny, and they are clean, which should allow you to run this fridge indefinitely by itself. You should probably look at other electrical items you are using.

  41. Yep they do work on the spares. Researched and then called the MFG and they confirmed my faulty memory. Have re-written my above post accordingly. The transmitter sends a milli-second burst of the ID number, pressure and temperature data whenever there is air pressure from the tire to the monitor. It will be read on the monitor IF: It is within it's range Has a good battery AND it is not shielded from the monitor (Such as under the vehicle was for my Toyota Sequoia For my Sequoia the tire sensor was shielded well and did not work. I'll be re-installing the sensors on my spares this summer! GJ PS: For winter storage, recommend the Egg Carton storage suggestion with removal of the batteries from the sensors to protect from potential battery generated corrosion.

  42. We just returned from a 5 week trip west in our 2021 LE1 with 260 AH of lithium newly installed and 300 W of solar - 200 W on top and an outboard extra 100W panel. We had several 5-day boon docking sessions and never had a problem with keeping power around 100% - or getting it back up to 100% after a cloudy day. BUT, we had mostly sun and we have the 3 way refrigerator running on propane. The bigger challenge in boon docking was running out of fresh water, or needing to dump grey or black tanks. Full time would need water and sewage hookups, at least, we suspect. And electricity via shore power or a generator in cloudy seasons. One other challenge - we needed to develop careful choreography and rhythms to live well in a tight space. And our dog had to learn them as well!! We actually had a lot of laughs as we figured them out!! Geoff

  44. I purchased the Powerwerx plug @Steve Morris highlighted, but returned it because there is no weatherproof way to seal it when in use. Even if mounted inside the propane tank housing there is a chance of moisture intrusion. I keep my Dometic dual-zone in the TV under cap and primarily operate it on a solar portable power station. I’ve never considered taking it out of the TV when at camp; it’s very heavy when loaded, and like keeping it out of the elements and secure from theft. However, as backup I can run it from a bumper-mounted Anderson. Although this particular plug can be fitted with an environmental boot as shown, it is not flush-mount and better suited for a forward rather than a side Oliver mount. I also use this Anderson to run the Viair.

  46. Kathlyn - Welcome to the forum! To answer your originally post. We have not met anyone living full time in an Elite 1. As long as you are comfortable in a smaller trailer I bet you will do just fine. Personally we would not choose to full time in our larger LEll for many reasons, it’s not for us. That said, we certainly could if we had to we had to. Enjoy you Elite 1! Happy and Safe Travels!
