I've looked at everyone's designs and decided that I liked the ones that utilize the existing square tubing on each side of the rear deck. The engineer in me just couldn't handle mounting a rack in the existing receiver. Not that it won't work but, I really wanted to minimize the distance from the rear of the trailer as well as the height. I ended up using a router to bring down the 2" aluminum tubing about .040" on each side for the inserted section. Next time I will pay a shop to mill it since it was time consuming. I also cut out the bolt clearance slots with a circular saw after drilling holes at the end of the slots. I guess I should probably post pictures of that as well but, there are some others who have done a way better job than I. Each 1UP bike tray is secured with 3 SST carriage bolts in the T slot on each end along with washers and lock nuts. There are center carriage bolts that go through the 2" tubing and the channel and then 2 carriage bolts on each clamp. I just couldn't trust one bolt through the square tubing even though some of the roof racks run that way. The two main tubes will be trimmed once I determine where I want to mount the rear brace. Brace, license plate mount, and lights next. Finished up wiring the Starlink yesterday. Almost rally ready...6 points

Tempting for sure! Upgrading to the 5.2k# Nev-R-Lubes this week in Hohenwald... Nice match with the Alcans. Will send updated posting of the process later this week for those interested.4 points

Looking good. I totally agree with @MAX Burner Starlink is a game-changer. Based on second picture, your tow vehicle might need some attention before heading out! 🤪3 points

Good plan, however some precautions: Be sure to properly ventilate by cracking some windows; many question the safety of propane heaters like the Mr. Heater variety, but just heed the warning(s) when used indoors. Also, based on my experience there will be an increase in humidity and condensation in the cabin, a byproduct of hydrocarbon combustion. I have seen condensation run down the interior wall and wet the bedcovers and dinette cushions, especially during a night of use. This can be somewhat mitigated with more ventilation than thought needed.3 points

Passed by an Elite II Sat April 13th on I-57 South between Mt Vernon and Benton IL... Washington State plates, "Urge for Going" on the back. Still kinda rare in the wild... this was the only one we encountered on the highway or in a campground during 18 days and about 4,000 miles through parts of NY, OH, IN, IL, MO, AR, TX, LA, MS, AL, TN (not near Hohenwald), VA, WV, MD, PA. Also saw a couple of Casitas, and a Park Liner; no Scamps or Escapes either. Can't always see the opposite side of the highway, so some might've slipped by undetected 🙂2 points

Nice work! That's the route I originally wanted to go with my rack. But we wanted the option to move the rack to the truck, so went with the 2" conversion, instead.2 points

LOL! My son was doing a brake job on his truck at my house. Thought that might get mentioned!2 points

The Wilson WeBoost cell signal booster available in the 2019 LEII, did explain in their instructions that we need to register our phones as being behind the cell booster using the carrier's URL. I noticed about a year ago that the Verizon link was inactive so I assume something has changed since Wilson first introduced this technology. If there isn't a requirement for identifying which numbers would be permitted by the cell booster, then naturally I would assume that anyone sitting in your trailer would be able to use the booster. Back in the day, the telecommunication industry was deregulated and they were dragged unwillingly to the 20th century. I had purchased a Western Electric handset and had to take it to the local NE Telephone office to have it certified for attachment to their network. It saved us about $7.00 a month in phone rental charges. Naturally that isn't required anymore. I suspect we are seeing something similar here as the cell booster has blossomed, first with truckers and roving sales personnel, and now with the mobile RV industry. The technology is solid and signal strength improves with a booster, but bandwidth for smart phones, tablets and hot spots are only as good as the bandwidth at the towers. Many a time my wife and I have seen our phones perform well during the middle of the night when most people are sleeping and then barely work during peak usage hours in spite of a strong signal.2 points

We spotted an Oliver yesterday on I-40 going westbound near Tucumcari, NM connected to a white pickup... any clues who they may have been? Staying at a HH near Palo Dura canyon and headed to FT Smith, AR this morning, we'll be on the look out for OTTs! Cheers!2 points

Chris: If you have water coming inside and onto your bunk, and it is not coming from above the window (As you determined), then I would clean the window tracks. It is a common source of water intrusion that many of us have experienced. Here is my cobbled together DIY for the task. GJHow To Clean OE2 Window Tracks.docx2 points

We are staying at the Meriweather B&B tonight while we get some work done at Oliver. We checked in an hour ago, it’s really a pleasant surprise. Melisa was very accommodating and said she loves it when Oliver owners stay here. Very clean. There’s a downstairs suite and an upstairs suite. We’re upstairs, big bedroom, separate sitting area/TV, big bath and a kitchen area. We highly recommend it! Mike2 points

Thanks to @AlbertNTerri I was able to field repair the truma unit. Their note described the specific burner feed line that was loose. I removed the burner assembly and found the main connection inside the burner was loose. The connection is the brass fitting in the pix. That connection was loose, not even hand tight. I tightened it back to spec and checked all wiring for any burns and they were all ok. IMG_7603.mov Tested gas pressure and it was correct. Cleaned soot from burner Assembly and reinstalled burner. Checked for gas leaks then lit off the Truma. No more whoosh/boom. This was made possible because an Oliver forum person posted the repair steps that a Truma tech did to repair their unit. I asked Jason to let truma know about this unit failure, and suggest they send out a service note on this topic. I ask those going to the rally to point out this issue to Truma Reps at the event. I will submit this as a new incident NHTSA as it was dangerous. Unit info: Model Serial No: DLE 60G 32123091 direct vent automatic instantaneous water heater Regards, Craig Short Hull 5052 points

Mike, we didn’t get as far as what kind of a trade in value our trailer would bring (and I would probably never do that), but he did look up what a bank would be willing to loan. Like you and Art mentioned, our trailer is well broken in, and I like it. The thought of a complete Truma system, a big Lithium battery bank, and never lube axles is tempting, but in the end was not worth the kerfluffle to go new.2 points

Art, that’s kinda where I’m at, too. There are a couple of things I’d like to upgrade, but don’t really need to, which is why I decided to not purchase a new LE II.2 points

Did you ask about any trade in value of yours? Might be interesting to know. I’m with Art, ours is nicely broken in and has become our second home. MIke2 points

TBOM (The Boss Of Me, also known as The Bride) and I were strongly considering buying a new Oliver, and reached out to the dealer here in Oregon. In addition to finding them pleasant and helpful folks, I was shocked at what I considered to be a very good deal on a new LE II. I may be kicking myself for not purchasing, but I couldn’t justify spending the money. Especially since we like our 2018 LE II so much. If you’re thinking about upgrading, now might be the time.1 point

After 3 nights at Parowan Gap, it was time to start heading back south. Wanted to stop on the way to see the Dino Cliffs Trail that @topgun2 suggested, but they had the Interstate exit closed and traffic was backed up everywhere. Turns out Saturday was the "Ironman 70.3 National Championships” in St George. This was not going to happen this year. Bill wrote me, "I'm guessing that those tracks will still be there for the next time!" An hour on I-15 with winds getting stronger all day, was enough for me! I found a great route south where we could avoid the majority of I-15. Love to avoid Interstates (we've driven many times to and from Austin and Prescott, 1100 miles and NO Interstates, nice). The route is "Old US Hwy 91" which runs along the historic Old Spanish Trail. Starting in Ivins UT (St George NW suburb) ending in Mesquite, NV. We boondocked on the way at the entrance to Beaver Dam Wash National Conservation Area. Winds over the weekend got up to a constant 40 MPH with stronger gusts. We could see the Nevada valley ahead looking thick like a dust storm. We wanted to spend the night at elevation instead. There was a tiny camping area at the entrance to the NCA. Noticed it out of the corner of my eye and turned around for it. We camped on a level site with dense cedars on the side. The cedars cut the wind so much, we were able to sit outside in the evening. Stayed there to 2 PM the next day when the winds were finally slowing. What a beautiful area! Beaver Dam Wash NCA Fact Sheet.pdf (blm.gov)1 point

Turns out the Oliver we found (pictured above), is owned by @Allen Lee Rohner. Too bad we did not get to meet, but they left us a nice note outside. They must have got back to camp after dark and had an early departure planned. We slept in 'til 9 AM (testament to after 2 1/2 weeks I'm finally getting used to sleeping in that short Oliver single! I sent them a text this morning, inviting them to Prescott. It would be great if they would, and we should talk soon. We ran Illinois plates too, from the 70s to the late 90s, Chris and I both being born and raised in Chicagoland.1 point

I do wish the A/C had a heat strip or heat pump as a backup but it wouldn't have mattered on this trip because we were dry camping. We do have a Mr. Buddy propane heater but didn't pack it because there was really only one cold day in the forecast and we've never had a furnace failure in 25 years RVing. What were the odds, right?1 point

Haven't converted to 12v yet. Ordered the hardware but probably won't have it before we head south. Works great so far but we have it at our house already as it was the best option for our rural location. Cheers!1 point

Hmmmm, I’ve never turned our booster on. Here at the house with Verizon, we get a blazing 2 bars (on a good day). I do believe it’s time to see what it does.1 point
-
We use our stand-alone at times as the Truma dehumidifier feature of the AC sometimes makes the trailer too cold.1 point
-
Checked it just now, FTR - with 3 bars/5G showing in the iPhone register, switching on the booster the signal strength jumped to 4 bars after several seconds, switching off, back to 3. We're not registered to anything, FYI. Better than nothing, I suppose...1 point
-
According to SureCall registration is not necessary. I had tried to register ours prior to callling SureCall and the call center at AT&T had no clue as to how to register the cell booster. Don’t expect to see a huge boost in signal strength, typically one bar improvement if the phone is very, very close to the antenna.1 point

Hulls 110, 113,117 are all old girls! The crack must have come from fighting with the hose. I’ve been using ours quite a bit lately and the hose will often not fully extend. From your pic, I can see it’s getting caught on the hot side PEX! I’m going to cover or wrap that plumbing with something so the hose can be pulled out unhindered. hope you can source the cracked part without replacing the entire faucet assembly.1 point

Love this! This is the state my wife and I are hoping to get to (traveling to camp and playing some pickleball). We just got back from Mt. Vernon doing the Tulip Tussel. Doing Airbnb for now until we get our Oliver someday we hope. Warming up at tournament play is always a bit tricky. We had the same issue plus it was 50 degrees. The concept of combining travel with stops for pickleball tournaments or open play across the country is quite appealing. Especially, if we can do some PPA tournaments and combine amateur play with watching the real pros like Jack Sock! Should you find yourself in the Coeur d'Alene, ID region and are looking for a pickleball match, feel free to reach out.1 point

It would be helpful if you listed your hull #, model and year in your signature line. That way we would know a little better just exactly how to answer your questions. Bill1 point

Aren't we all?😁 There just has to be somewhere else to buy that replacement part! Many times the cost via the Oliver Service department isn't bad. Bill1 point

We had a similar issue one time. [While on the road] We called Mike in service. He had us hookup a fresh water hose to the boondocking port and run briefly. That took care of the problem. Thanks Mike!1 point

Like the simple design @Snackchaser showed. I will do our mod this summer. I’m also thinking of deleting the bed area duct. We’re camping in colder weather last few days and I have this one shut as much as possible which helps the air flow in the bath. The bed area duct is too close to the return and we like the cabin warm but cooler air where we sleep.1 point

Turns out he is a Georgia boy living in North Carolina. Super nice folks. He is a long time Ollie owner and active camper. I learned a lot from our short conversation. I suspect that is just a taste of what we might learn at the owners rally.1 point

Hull 505 - Reports back Our SN for the failed unit was Hull 505 - SN DLE 60C - 29289053.. Another SN reported is.... Hill 1125 - S/N DLE 60C - 32153014 There were other reports before and after hull 505. Maybe Truma needs to reveal and report all suspect unit S/N to NHTSA?1 point
-
It may be prudent for Oliver to address the issue in the forum’s News & Announcements for good measure, as well!1 point
-
@AlbertNTerri a very solid report and glad you have your issue fixed. Thank you for letting us all know. What I find really disturbing is that Truma knowingly admitted to you that they were aware of the collar nut not being properly torqued which resulted in a gas leak and a fire. Wow, very disconcerting. At a minimum one would think that Truma would have initiated a safety recall via serial number and address this serious fire hazzard. This could have really turned out to be a fire that might have completely destroyed your Oliver. I am so glad it did not, and you took all the appropriate steps to prevent further damage. Again, so glad you are both safe and your Oliver did not suffer and damage as far as you can tell. Hopefully Truma will do the right thing and immediately initiate a safety recall to address the torque issues on ALL serial number units with improper torque specs. Patriot🇺🇸1 point
-
PS. thanks Galway Girl, per your recommendation we submitted a report to the NHTSA and they called me the next day for additional info. The guy I spoke with was not aware of your report last year, I made him aware of it and pointed him to the Oliver Forum to see your post about it. He commented that since Oliver has such a low production number that they probably didn't do much with it, but now that there's been two reports, they may move forward with investigating this. After seeing the problem, I'm thinking this is more of Truma issue and not so much an "Oliver" Issue.1 point
