Looks good, though for the $7 per month subscription you only get notified once per hour when it's moving. To get one minute notifications it costs $15 per month with a yearly contract.2 points

I suppose anything is possible. I removed the speaker from the tag, to make it very difficult to locate without hearing it.2 points

I have an Android phone hidden in the attic and use the Google "Find Hub" app to show the location. Have the phone on a Mint Mobile 5gb monthly plan for $15 per month for connectivity. Seems to work well and shows real time location, though it does have it's limitations. The phone can shut down if it overheats and can also possibly lockup at any point and need rebooting. So far neither has happened though I do reboot it fairly often. I should probably move to a dedicated tracking device and look forward to hearing what others here are using.2 points

Last time out, we stayed one night... Let's call it a shady campground and I don't mean the fact that it was up in the woods! Too many homeless today living out of cars and vans! Last year we drove into a city park in central NM and as soon as we pulled down into it, we headed right back out! No way Chris and I would have spent a night there. It was like one of those refugee scenes from a disaster movie! I worried about the Mini since I had to place it a distance away from the Oliver to get clear sky. I fell asleep that night leaving it out there and in the morning I quickly looked out the dinette window to thankfully see it where I had left it. If they take our Mini, there goes the $450 plus tax we paid, $20 for the wiring kit and another $140 for my 10Ah DeWalt battery! All brand new stuff and they would probably even take the milk crate that I use to prop up the Mini above ground! The next loss is continuing the rest of your trip without satellite connection, and bummed re the loss. There is no way simple way to lock down a Mini. Lock it to what? Stretch out 50' of cable with a 50' chain? 🤣 We just have to be careful.2 points

We don't have this grill...yet. It's been around for years at over $300, but hard to resist for just $201. It gets high marks from several reviewers and does well in comparison tests. Since the PitmasteRx reviewer didn't show its regulator in his video, I was pointing out that the manufacturer offers a low-pressure RV connector. If this grill had high pressure burners it wouldn't be possible (or at least not practical) to use the RV quick connects. I have a Camp Chef stove with two 20,000 BTU high pressure propane burners. Its regulator has to be connected directly to a propane tank to get full heat. I've rigged it to connect to the RV propane quick connects and it works, but the burners just put out a fraction of their maximum. The main complaint reviewers have with the TravelQ PRO285 is with the short (20 inch) hose for 20 lb tanks, and that it's incompatible with 1 lb bottles. I agree that even a 6' hose is too short. If we decide to get one, then I'd put a quick connect nipple directly on the grill. We already have several quick connect extension hoses of various lengths.2 points

Heck - some of us are scary enough even without getting dressed up! However, a mask just might do me some good.😁 Bill2 points

Still a better option than mine. Same monthly price but you're getting a dedicated tracking device.1 point

We keep it simple and just use an Apple air tag. No monthly fee, so far it works great and we just replace the battery each year along with all the rest of the batteries. We store our Oliver at our home not in public view.1 point

That's a good idea, @CRM! I was looking into the Trak-4 tracker, and their subscription is $7 a month, after purchasing the device for around $15 on Amazon. So the phone would actually be a costlier method, but I like your ingenuity!☺️1 point

I like the OEM equipped sliders! Though until I added the fan, we had not used the rear slider and it’s very difficult to slide. Laying in bed, it’s a simple one-handed slide to open and to close when it gets colder late at night. Can’t do that with an awning, lock bolts on each side, requiring you to stand up, lean over using both hands. I’ll keep our sliders and with new external rubber they are in great shape considering 10 years of age. Now we could wish for blinds 3/4” thick vs. these clumsy things that stick out 3” into our living space, my big body or arms hitting them every night, and you can't fully lean back sideways at the dinette table. We don’t, though some have issues with them falling off on bumpy roads.1 point

I tried to help, notify our fellow Oliver owners of this good deal, but this is quickly going into the "snooze you loose" category! I truly respect the way they handled the charges. When ordered, they put only an AUTH on my card. They did not fully charge for the item until confirmation of delivery. Both charges and the $5 credit are still pending on my account today, should close tomorrow after the holiday. Nine days ago, the price was as listed below. When I started this thread, it had gone up to $228.65 and I just did a refresh today and it's $279.65! Maybe they had old pricing on their website and after selling one to us at little profit, they updated their pricing. It's still $50 plus tax less than pricing anywhere else. I paid $150 more for our Starlink Mini vs. the sales price today. With this purchase I'm about even!1 point

While I agree with everything you said and do, I have some campgrounds I love that occasionally have issues with some interesting people. It happens in almost every CG I have visited. That said, most thieves are not only stupid but opportunists. They see something of value, they grab it, not realizing it can’t be used because it is tied to your account. They grab, try to pawn for drug money or such, get nothing and do it again. It is ridiculous, makes no sense, but it is human nature in its most basic sense. I leave nothing to chance on valuable items.1 point

Great question. My SL Mini is tied to my account. If stolen it becomes a useless brick of no value. As the owner I can advise SL that it was stolen and they deactivate the account completely. After 48 days out west last fall, we never had a concern about our dish being stolen. When we leave our site to go XPLOR, we temporarily store it in our Oliver until we return and then redeploy. So far zero issues. The portability of the Mini is awesome, I will likely never permanently mount it for many reasons. If we are in a CG that I feel like I need to lock the Mini down with a cable, we have probably picked the wrong CG and will move on. We vet CG’s pretty hard when traveling and like gated SPs, and privately owned CG’s. Never had any issues with theft the entire time we have owned our Oliver. I always carry an extra cable lock, I find it much easier to just secure the dish in the Oliver if we leave.1 point

Jason, I’m not sure about the Overland brand, but there are brands available with integrated day/night shade screens. Yes I have seen people complain about scratching, but you can polish them out. https://youtu.be/N1vh-ETtRgE?si=-CqN8-Kbm2MV50VI Here’s a good video from The Fit RV on why you want dual pane acrylic windows in your RV.1 point

1) This☝️ 2) Yes, depending on the style of the awning window, I prefer the awning style windows where the entire window can be pushed out (see pic) vs just a small section at the bottom awning style, or half of a sliding window (like the Oliver window) Please report back on what style windows Oliver will be switching to.1 point

It has water proof plugs. Our Mini has gone through a serious rain and even a hail storm had zero issues. The custom case adds a little weight to the Mini and does a good job of keeping in grounded during light wind conditions. With high winds I will use a bungee to secure it to a table or just place it on the ground. I run an extension cord from the Oliver exterior outlet into the bed of my TV. I have a camper shell so water is not a concern when I plug in the Mini and our Truma cooler in during bad weather. Just how we roll. 😊 Here is a pic of a chilly 28 degree morning while camped in Yellowstone at Fishing Bridge last fall. Our Mini was working great. It has a built in heating element (you must go into your IPhone app to turn it on) to keep ice or snow from collecting on the dish. We love cold weather camping! 🇺🇸🇺🇸1 point

Definitely, good advice! The one I listed comes in 12’ and then we have a 12’ with a splitter that we use for grill and fire ring.1 point

We hope to attend next year. It would be our first Oliver rally.1 point

You may want to consider a much longer hose than 6’. We use an 18’ hose from the LP QC’s on our Oliver. 😎1 point

Yeah Ken, I tried this when you first mentioned it to me. Didn't help on our valves. I found the reason when I got inside of the valves. The black cable was hard to pull due to 2 bends in the 12' cable. The gray valve had soooo much goo on the blade from past owners putting who knows what soaps and/or additives in the drains. I did silicone grease those rods per your advise during the install. A few trips and dumps later bother valves are still very smooth.1 point
-
Both of my drain valves were extremely difficult to open and close as well. I used some silicone plumbers grease (the same stuff that I use on the toilet flush valve) and coated the metal rod that the cable connects to. The valves now operate very easily. Probably better than when new.1 point

We've had the same issues with our blackwater valve cable. Impossible to pull out and when closing the valve, it never closed completely so I always had to go back into the trailer to push on the metal stop to ensure it was well-seated. In the last few days, we installed a Barker AutoDrain. The switch is located along the upper edge just inside the basement. We placed it there because the switch is too large for the space created when we removed the black tank handle. We also located it where we felt the risk of damage would be reduced, but we still need to be careful when stowing supplies in the basement. As long as we are talking black tanks, I have been perpetually annoyed when, after dumping the black tank, having to go back into the trailer to turn on the water pump so I can wash my hands. To address this minor annoyance, I added a marine-grade, water-pump switch that is mounted where the black tank valve handle was previously located, and I can now turn the water pump on and off from outside next to the shower. No more going in and out of the trailer at the dump station to wash my hands.1 point

I don't own an Oliver, but am going to the factory tour next week. What don't you like about the sliding window? I think awning style would provide a better seal, but less airflow when windows open, making me prefer sliding. Though awning style could be left open in rain without needing to have the trailer awning open. What else am I not thinking about?1 point

In our 2 years, we haven't been able to make one yet. I never know until I'm offered an event calendar for work. However, Fall season is more likely an opportunity for us and the weather has got be be better, certainly given the rainout which occurred this year!1 point

@Zodd -- thank you, this is definitely of interest to me! Also the scenic hikes. I'm very excited about seeing the landscape there.1 point

I’m committed to my 50th reunion at West Point in Oct ‘26 (class of 1976) so we won’t be attending. We’ve got plans already for all of Sept/Oct. Fall at Lake Guntersville should be nice, though! Mike1 point

Though I’m sure this stuff is great for lubing the valve blades/gates, I’m convinced that the issue I experienced was because of the l-o-n-g cable and the two 90 degree bends, not the valve itself. The valve I removed also showed zero signs of wear, buildup, deposits, scoring, etc - it looks new and the seals were fine. My original symptoms were a black tank T handle that was VERY hard to pull out - to the point I was sure that the plastic T handle would break off. OTOH, it pushed in very smoothly and easily. From past experience with cables of this kind, the cable “core” wears into the cable housing or sheath. This wear happens on the “pull” stroke to the inner radius of the cable bends. There are two 90 degree bends in the blank tank dump cable. Anyway, since I wasn’t keen on temporary fixes like lubing a compromised cable, I opted for the fix OTT suggested: installing an electric valve. Problem solved.1 point
