In Oregon, veterans with a service connected disability are eligible for free entrance and camping at State Parks, additionally we can have one vehicle license that is permanent.  The one time fee for the license is $100.  Ours is on our Ollie, as RVs are more expensive to title and register.

We’ve been traveling from south Texas to Tennessee and arrived in the Memphis area this afternoon.  We’re at a military campground on Midsouth Naval Base just north of Memphis.  It’s small, but somehow there’s an Oliver parked right next to us.  The spot we are in was occupied by another Oliver last night.  Small world.  Our neighbors just picked up their trailer yesterday, Mike and Barb - Hull 1428.

Very cool, Mike!  Nice pic!  Seems like the older we are, the smaller the world gets....  Go figure!

Lubec Maine, Sunset Point RV Park; Most Easterly Campground in the U.S.

Great Campground.

In town, there is a short bridge to Campobello Island in New Brunswick where FDR had his 34 room summer cottage. Very Interesting to hear the history of the Roosevelt House and the family.

@dewdev, are the dahlias still in bloom at Campobello? The cottage was interesting,  as was the lighthouse, but the dahlias are my best memory.

Great view from your campsite. We stayed on deer pt island, in new brunswick, and took the ferry over. Deer point is really interesting  (the maelstrom!) If you haven't been there.

SeaDawg - Yes the dahlias were still in bloom my in the last stages.

We were there almost this same week, maybe a week earlier. Some of the dahlias were dinner plate size. I'll never forget that. So very beautiful.  The wind at night was cold, but the days were cool and bright,  and totally awesome.

Wishing you safe travels, and thanks for the memories.

Where to next?

On that trip (we called it the tides trip) we saw the maelstrom /whirlpool off deer point, the river running backwards at st. John, and the crazy tide at Hopewell rocks.

The trip home, with the leaves, was really amazing. We followed the leaf change south.

Envying you now. Enjoy the beauty!

We camped at Herring Cove Provincial Park on Campobello in July.  What really struck me about the Roosevelt's home was the unpretentiousness of it.  It looked like a place anyone could be very comfortable in. I want to go back and walk more of the trails. David really liked the golf course.  Paula

The Wonder Egg is enjoying a week camping at Seadawg’s secret mountainside retreat in the Appalachians of North Carolina. Scrumptious breakfast, lunch and dinners prepared with panache over the open campfire. Life is goood on the mountain.

So...  here we are in Wilcox, AZ wine country attempting to avoid sub-freezing temps in Northern NM.  It's 75F here without a hint of wind.

Harvest Hosting for a couple nights at Pillsbury Winery near the Chiricahua Mountains and Dos Cabezas Peak. OBTW: the new install of the Victron DC-DC charger is pretty awesome...

Small world!  We've been to Bodega Pierce before and plan to do so again today.  We're also going to Aridus tasting room near the railroad tracks in Old Downtown Wilcox today - we'll plan to have a noon-ish lunch at Big Tex BBQ right across the street...  Join us?

But, even if you offered to pay the speeding tickets I don't think I could make it in time from Western North Carolina.😁

we played golf on the Georgia side the lake.

Are the green's cups bigger over there?😁

I've also past that aircraft many times but instead of being able to tell you what it was, I always wondered exactly how they landed it on top of that little post!

THAT really does look like a great campsite!  How was the weather?

Cups must have been larger, we had good rounds of golf and it was not because of our golf skills. 🙂

We were looking for something a little warmer than temps at home during  January.  On our last day temps were 65F. Had a little rain, but mostly pleasant weather. Campsites 43, 44, and 45 were nice, we were on #45. Folks were fishing, bicycling, and boating there.

Took this photo south of Augusta Georgia of a Beechcraft 18.

Oh, what a wondrous noise that Beech 18 makes!

When I was a kid, Grimes Manufacturing in Urbana, Ohio, manufactured lighting for commercial and military aircraft. They had a 1953 Beech C-45H transport (the military version of the Beech 18) that they purchased in 1963 for aerial testing of their lighting systems as the Grimes Flying Lab. It would have strobes and lights all over it, looking like a UFO. According to their web page, it currently uses 75 lights.

We'd see and hear it flying at county fairs, holiday events, etc. It still flies around Ohio's Indian Lake every Labor Day during the lake's "Ring of Lights" flare lighting event, with thousands of road flares around it. I love hearing it fly!
