  1. I changed out my Xantrex 2000 watt inverter due to a warranty claim. I found that the required Chassis Ground cable was never installed. It’s the small center terminal between the two large Positive and Negative battery cables, between the two cooling fans. You can just reach in with your hand and feel for a heavy gage wire there, or use a small inspection mirror. The installation manual specifically requires a BIG cable here, minimum size 8AWG which is pretty hefty. They suggest that one the same size as the other two cables be used. There is a potential danger of shock (“Death or severe injury”) if the unit should fail without a chassis ground. Max load is 250 amps for this unit. That is a heck of a lot of current, so huge wires are required. I used a pair of 4 AWG battery cables and installed crimped and soldered terminals. You can make a cable yourself, if you have the skills and knowledge. If you don’t feel OK about this, a professionally crimped cable should be installed. I ran the cables forward to the battery box support column, using a 5/16” bolt and self locking nut. I used an existing hole that was missing it’s hardware. ;( That support is welded at the bottom to the left main frame rail, so it is an excellent ground point. I alerted Oliver Service and requested that they issue a service bulletin and send out cables as needed to all affected owners. Here is my fix: Please inspect your inverter ASAP and respond here, and submit a Service Request if needed. 2. For Oliver owners, I'm offering up my place to camp if you're between planned stops, and would like a day or two to collect your thoughts. We have a "farm" with plenty of open space, water, and a place to dump your tanks if needed. Electricity is available, but most likely just a 20 amp circuit. We are located on the south side of Tim's Ford Lake, in Winchester TN. Our location is about 20 min to Jack Daniel Distillery, Lynchburg, TN about 40 min from George Dickel Distillery, Winchester, TN. We are about 1 hour to Chattanooga, and 2 hrs. to Nashville. Lots to do if you have never spent much time in this area. Easy entry off a paved road, and grassy treed area for camping. For more information you can contact me by email : rrbounds gmail.com This an exclusive offer to Oliver Travel Trailer owners only. The cost to camp is about what this post cost me...

  3. We've been lurking for a year and finally pulled the trigger on an Elite II. We decided to delay pickup until May 14th so we can travel in better weather and then continue on to the rally at Lake Guntersville in May. We've made our reservations for the rally and are really looking forward to meeting everyone. What a perfect shake down trip! If we get confused about something, we'll be surrounded by Ollie Veterans ? We're really looking forward to boondocking and doing a different type of trailering that we've done in years past. LOTS to learn, but hey..... you're never too old to learn new tricks right? ~ Steph and Steve Kimball from Jacksonville, OREGON

  5. EDIT 08/11/18 Uploaded a (corrected) Numbers Revision 01 file and a (new) Excel Revision 01 file. Note: I will keep any future major updates or important comments in this first post. I do not want for them get lost in subsequent replies. If you are at all familiar with Excel or Numbers, this may be helpful. I was keeping my records in a variety of forms, and the data was getting increasingly messy and hard to interpret, so with the help of my wife I now have an all-in-one spreadsheet that I can update on-the-fly, as long as I have an internet connection. I back it up in the Cloud, so I can do data entry from my iPad at a campsite as easily as I can from my iMac at home. It has four tabs or sections. The first is the Trip log. The Date column "self-formats" so all the dates look alike. The Total column automatically updates when you enter the Trip (daily) number of miles. Don't mess with the figures in the TOTAL column. [attachment file=Trip log capture.png] The second tab is the Service Schedule/ Tech page. I have service reminders (stuff I need to do soon), torque values, service info and my Squawk List (aka the "Honey-Do List") - stuff I either want to or need to address, eventually. [attachment file=Service Tech Capture.png] The third tab is the actual Service Record, which includes all routine work, repairs, and mods. I did not include extra columns for cost and detailed lists - I summarized since a future owner would only need that rough data. The paper records are there if I need to get down to small part costs. [attachment file=Service Record capture.png] The last tab is an Inventory section, for me to keep track of loose stuff that is carried in the trailer, in case of loss. [attachment file=Inventory Capture.png] The sample file, which includes the data shown in the screen captures above, but not all my history, can be found at my Dropbox page. Follow this link for the NUMBERS file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u4fmo7ko7oxde6y/DAVIES%20SAMPLE%20RV%20LOG%20Serv%20Rec%20Inv%20REV01%20%20NUMBERS.numbers?dl=0 Follow this link for the EXCEL file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/07kvpx7u1d9l7bc/DAVIES%20SAMPLE%20RV%20LOG%20Serv%20Rec%20Inv%20REV01%20%20EXCEL.xlsx?dl=0 I strongly suggest that you save your file as a Master, duplicate it and work with the copy in case you mess up some how. Change all the entries and headers as you see fit. I hope it is useful to some of you. The first and third tabs print very nicely in Landscape, the other two work in Portrait. Use the "Fit to Page" option, print one tab at a time, and they will all stay on one printed page, so they are easy to read. Please let me know if there are any problems downloading or opening the file. I know very little about spreadsheets, but way more than I used to ;) John Davies Spokane WA

  6. Three years ago (shortly after I took delivery of Twist) I found that I could not see the hitch on the Oliver very well when using the on-board camera in the truck. Buzzy (another Forum member) had the same problem and we both came up with a similar solution at about the same time. We painted the hitch florescent orange. Certainly this made it visible, but, that paint fades in a very short period of time. I tried repainting again and top coating with clear sealer, but, the end result was the same. Last year I again repainted the hitch but used "hammered" silver. This has worked much better, keeps the hitch looking new and is easily seen from the truck. While at it I also lightly sanded the areas on the rest of the hitch assembly that had rusted and gave then a couple of quick coats of Krylon Black Satin. This matches the original fairly closely. Finally, note in the one picture the small strip of closed cell foam that I glued to the top of the release handle on the hitch. This prevents the tailgate on my Ford F-150 from hitting that handle and scratching/denting either one. Temporally I left that one small area un-finished for comparison of before and after. The Krylon dries quickly (less than an hour) while the Rust-Oleum takes overnight to really dry.

  7. I figured I might hear from you. :) I have enjoyed your posts & refer my husband to them frequently. Are you planning on making a "how-to" on grease packing of the bearings? Steve is planning on doing this in about a month. Also, I have downloaded your .xlsx. I am an info-holic so I am all over stuff like this. Re the 3M product ---- do you have any idea if it would work on mildew? I should have stated this in my original post & topgun rightfully pointed this out. We live NC where it is quite humid. I looked at the 3M product page & it did not say anything about mildew. I did read that I can use white vinegar & water. This is my standard household cleaner & I did use it to remove the bulk of the mildew. I would really like to make the 'band' shiny white again, if that's possible. :) Thank you for your time. grc ps: I saw your Amazon review for the 3M product. :)

  8. Did you remove the built-in unit? We have a portable Progressive and have been pleased with the electrical problems it has made us aware of. And we are made aware before we plug the camper in. With a portable you don't have to go inside to see the results. It does have fancy "dancing lights" while plugged in, so we use a pistol cable lock to secure it to the pedestal post so it doesn't get "borrowed". Probably a good bike lock would work too..

  9. When we visited Moab last year we stayed at Horsethief BLM campground. They have 60 sites, no reservations. We were there last September driving from Mesa Verde, CO and arrived around noon. We had our choice of campsites. It’s just outside of Moab in between Canyonlands and Arches NP’s. Nice level gravel pads, picnic table. No hookups. Very clean vault toilets. $15. We would stay there again. Mike

  10. Another Oliver owner suggested that I use products produced by a North Carolina company call Duragloss (www.duragloss.com). Previously I used Rejex but after I received a "free" demonstration I was sold - at least on the interior products and for a quick cleaning of the exterior. Using 4 parts Duragloss "Fast Clean & Shine" (923) mixed with 1 part Duragloss "Aquawax" (952) a quick spray and wipe with a microfiber towel cleans and shines EVERYTHING on the interior - including the mirrors - without streaks. I use this same combination for getting bugs off the front and general cleanup of the exterior. I also bought Duragloss RV wax but I've not had a chance to use it yet. While most of us can afford it, Rejex is certainly not the cheapest product around and Duragloss is cheaper even with the shipping included. If the Duragloss exterior wax is anything like the other two products that I've used I will not return to Rejex. Bill

  11. From what I see on my post above, I seem to have succeeded. However, instead of copying the URL, I just copied the map itself. Does it appear the way it should regardless of the method? (That blank spot above Arizona will be filled in this month.) Thanks, Jason.

  12. When we purchased our EII, I thought I could tow it with my then 2004 GMC 1/2 ton. It was wishful thinking, good on flats, not so in the hills, and for sure not in mountains. Anyways, I got the Anderson, now with the 2500, I use it, it spreads the load, its not much effort to use, but I would not purchase if I knew my TV was going to be the 3/4 ton truck. I think I could find a better use for $700.
    1 point
  13. We still use it for that reason. It helps with the porpoiseing although there is not much with the 2500 without it. I probably would not use it if we did not already have it.
    1 point
  14. In your situation with that size TV I would think that the major benefit of using the Andersen would be that it helps to dampen "bouncing" or "porpoiseing" normally caused by bridges on Interstates. That and the fact that in using the Andersen there is an additional attachment point between the TV and the camper which makes me feel a tad safer. Bill

  15. I would think that it is not necessary with an F-250. I have one and use it on my Ram 1500. It is not a pain to use and I like the extra margin of safety. Mike

  16. Ok think i can put this problem to bed. The problem was the main surge protector unit. Figuring this all out was a real PIA . So if you run into this''' this is what i think you need to consider. First get a good Electrician that is educated in Campground power supply installation only'' . 2. Don't rely on Progressive to figure out your issues'' they are Code directed from readings from the remote monitor. 3. Progressive tech support changes out parts'' thats it! 4. A portable EMS is the first defense against any bad issues thrown your way and the built in Oliver EMS has no issue with this Portable EMS being in line ahead of it. 5. A portable EMS is easy to change out'' just unplug. (Caution I hear people like to steal them). And last the Power Cord supplied by Oliver will not fully fit in Remote EMS I purchased '' the pull handle interferes with the WX cover. Thanks to all that helped with this issue.......Yukon

  17. For over ten years, we've used 3 m ultra marine paste wax. We use the same wax on our boats. Does well in the Florida sun. It's expensive , and a pita to use, twice a year. But it works Sherry

  21. Bill, While I was at the "Mothership" last week I noticed that that bolt covers are now included on all new Olivers and said something to Jason and Richie about it. I guess that they felt sorry for me because when I got Twist back from some minor repairs, the covers were there. If you are interested, the bolt size (according to Richie) is 1/2 inch and the covers/caps are available at Lowe's and probably Ace and Home Depot too. Bill

  22. Bill, Good write up! Sometimes would have same problem seeing a black hitch when backing up over black pavement with back-up camera. Also painted a white stripe for lining up with the back-up camera line making a one person operation. Painted ours with gray Rust-Oleum. Like your protective caps installed on the threaded ends of hitch bolts, too!

  23. Great idea, if you need it to be highly visible. A light color will make the inevitable rust very visible, unlike black. If you keep it touched up that won’t be a problem. This is why trailer hiches are black ;) My go-to paint for small jobs like this is the Duplicolor Brake Caliper Paint. It is found in any auto parts store, has ceramic for durability, has a nice gloss, flows out well and is long lasting. Plus it needs no primer, just a light sanding and good degreasing. The only downside is that it is more expensive. https://duplicolor.com/product/caliper-paint I use it on all my calipers and they stay looking great for years. Once you try this, you may not go back to “hardware store” spray paint. When are you going to send me some pics from Palisades Reservoir? Check your PMs. John Davies Spokane WA

  24. Were Sally and Mark from Washington State and picked up our Legacy II on 24 July Hull #364. Long trip back getting familiar with all the systems and operation of the Ollie. We ordered out trailer last October and selected the delivery date to coincide with Sally retiring and completing a house sale in Seattle before heading out East. We took several weeks to get home and like the trailer more each day. Since returning to the nest several modifications have been made. Thanks to all the Forum members that post their mods and advice. In the 9 months awaiting delivery we learned so much and had to chance to order the bits and pieces for the mods and that has made the experience even better. I've posted some pictures of a few things and I have done. Chime in if you recognize your intellectual property ! Thanks for all the great conversations on the forum and Sally and I hope to see on the road !

  25. We also opted for the storage space instead of the microwave and we love it! It is so big and the wood does break up all the modern white/glass of the trailer. It is a great spot for large items like pots/pans, but I’ll admit we seem to use ours as the bar - it fits liquor and wine bottles great!

  26. Steve Thanks for the info. Actually we like the touch of wood on the door. Adds a nice contrast to all the white. I was very leary when ordering but as soon as we walked into the camper at delivery we loved it and the added space. We keep our coffee pot and insta pot both in it along with some adult beverages.

  27. So I took John's advice, bought the REJEX. Starting in small areas, as I am a one-armed bandit for the next 6 weeks. It does not apply as visually clean as the Meguiar's I use on my vehicles, but it seems to look as good. I hope the long lasting claims are valid. However, the south bound lower end of #359 looks pretty darn nice. Now for the other 90%.

  30. I have used Meguiars Marine wax for over 10 years on Casita's, Escape's, and now the Oliver. I have tried several other products but have always gone back to the Meguiars. https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-M6332-Flagship-Premium-Marine/dp/B0000AY60S?th=1
