  1. That is why we won’t allow these types of discussions on this forum. Leave current events and political views out. Target shooting is a legitimate interest and popular sport. Let’s keep the discussion there. Mike

  2. There are multiple categories of forum threads. The General Discussion forum says “feel free to talk about anything”. Adds some interesting topics. Otherwise we’d spend all our time just discussing what the best tow vehicle is 😂.

  3. Next Monday is my last day to cancel my order without penalty. I think we are committed. It is a lot of money, but after studying RVs for over two years now, I simply do not see other brands being as well built and the culture there at Oliver in Tennessee seems to be all about building a good RV. I am excited, and to be honest a little nervous. My expected delivery date is early August. More about us. My wife and I have been married for a long time. We have two grown kids who don't live close by. I retired from corporate life about six years ago. We spent that time decompressing from suburban life and the demands others placed on us. We now enjoy the country life. Over the last six years we stayed close to the farm with our cattle and sheep. That really helped me come back to life after sitting behind a desk for almost 40 years. We sold the livestock last spring and are now anxious to hit the road and see this great country. I am learning patience. We are waiting to take delivery of a fully outfitted LE II. I hope to see you Ollies out and about. Stop by our camp and say hi!

  6. I just had a nice long conversation with John about this hobby. The average distance used for pinpoint accuracy competition is 11 yards, about 33 ft. Some folks who live alone may even set up an indoor range within their home! Even though Bosker is a tiny short fella, my main concern would be his great big radar ears picking up too much noise, even with the suppressor that comes mounted on the airgun. (Guess I could always keep him downstairs as I plinked.) The "deer blind" he uses is for keeping him warm in the unheated shop. A small ceramic heater keeps him cozy as he hones his skill, mid winter in Washington state. As with any hobby, it is a potential money sink if you opt for some of the higher end equipment. What a fun looking hobby. I'm always looking for new ways to spend my kids inheritance! Don't worry Bosker, I'll get you ear muffs.

  7. This is an update based on data gathered over the past 6 days using the Varioheat furnace during cool weather on the Oregon Coast. We kept getting an error code on the CP Plus wall control unit advising that either the supply ducts or the return air vents were obstructed. It would shut down, then re-ignite. We ensured there was nothing under the bed on our standard floor plan Hull #1291, but the error codes persisted. So, I removed the air filter I installed as described in my original post on this thread. VOILA! No more error messages. I have concluded that the Varioheat furnace is calibrated to function without a filter, and that my addition of a filter set off an airflow sensor causing it to shut down. So, my experiment with a homemade add-on filter created an unintended failure. I plan to leave the filter off of my Varioheat. I recommend you do the same.

  10. I replaced the tires (BF Goodrich) that came on my 2016 a couple of years ago. Plenty of tread left but each tire had some cracking. Put Coopers on. Didn’t feel the need to stretch the life of the original tires. Mike

  11. If it has the original tires from 2016, then they're 7 years old. Search online for "RV and trailer tire maximum age" and you'll find opinions vary widely, but 5-6 years seems to be the most common recommendation. Consider replacing them, even if they have plenty of tread.

  12. Linda, Good for you that you can try and get back out camping with your Oliver. Along with the above recommendations and since your Oliver has been sitting so long please don’t overlook checking your spare tire pressure. Make sure your tires are not old and out of date. Welcome Back! Patriot🇺🇸

  13. If your water heater has had water in it all this time, pull the anode and check it out, allow the tank to drain and flush water through your entire system for several, several minutes. Sanitize the water tanks and lines. While doing all this, check for leaks. Check out each system to make sure it works properly: fans, water pump, refrigerator (both 120V and propane, A/C, wheel bearings should be repacked and Dexter EZ-Flex greased, tires inflated properly, furnace, cooktop and batteries fully charged (I assume they have been maintained all this time). Change out batteries in any devices that used them. If the entire weight of the trailer has been on the tires, they will, most likely, have developed a flat spot where they contacted the surface under them. This may or may not come out after you have driven it for a number of miles.

  14. OK, so here's a good one... One of the discrepancies I noted on a "walk-around light check" during a recent weekend trip was an INOP license plate light. I checked the DC power at the pigtail connection behind the spare tire cover with the trusty multi-meter - good battery voltage. No biggie, right? Called up Ryder at Oliver parts department and he shot me a new light assembly (just south of 20 bucks, FYI) which arrived in about 3 days time. Did not bother testing the light - connections appeared totally correct. After removing the wire loom from the 2-wire harness, I noticed "white to white" and "black to red": Original wiring.pdf R&R'd the assembly, connected power and energized the circuit. Nothing, nada, zero light. Hmmmmmph? Double checked all my splices with the MM, all good - but still no light. HMMMPH, again. So, using the plug-in type splice connectors, I reversed the wires from the assembly to the pigtail to: "white to red" and "black to white"... The light fired right up. New Plug In Connectors.pdf I can only guess that either from the factory, or at some point in time, a previous owner miss-wired the assembly. I connected the original light reversing the polarity and found it was good to go all along! So, Hull #226 has been running around for quite some time without an operational license plate light. A major "AssUme" error on my part thinking the wiring was correct because it "looked" correct. Could have saved $20 if I just tested the light before talking to Ryder. I got a spare light now. Lesson Learned. Fix Issue.pdf

  16. FYI...I am from rural Wisconsin and I own a traditional three generation family rifle. Numerous whitetail deer are shot on my property every year. However the gun topic and killing (even of children!) in this Country is out of control. A recreational travel trailer website should not include guns of any sort. I encourage the Moderators of the website not allow gun discussions on the site because even tho the narrative is not "political" the photos are with no words

  17. Nice set up John. My son was on the rifle team in high school and while at West Point. I worked with a guy at Fort Huachuca (AZ) who had a nice indoor range for air guns on his ranch in Sierra Vista that we used to spend time at on weekends. Good clean fun. He’s still a shooting enthusiast. Mike

  18. Wow John! That's quite a target range setup you have there in your shop. Those thirty tiny aiming circles in front of your safety barrel (ie: sand bucket) sure are close together. Do you enter club competitions in your area or is it all for self improvement? Is the gizmo strapped to the front something for measuring the specific velocity of the projectile? Lots of discipline must be involved to make it all come together for the win . . . What are the normal distances you use for target shooting? General comment: Folks, this discussion about John's hobby does not need to take a political turn. Let's keep it focused on the hobby.

Between this Forum and the Oliver University there is more than enough to keep you entertained over the summer. Start planning all of those trips you've been wanting to take and things you've been wanting to see. Get everything else in your life ready so that you can not feel guilty about neglecting anything while you spend time pampering that shiny new Oliver and/or while you're relaxing at your favorite camping spot. Would love to do this - but - where might this camp be? Bill

  35. If you winterized, you'll need to de-winterize. Video of Jason showing this procedure linked here. Check your tire pressure (most people like about 60lbs), make sure batteries are fully charged, operate everything you can in/on your trailer before going anywhere, check that you jacks are operational, check your propane level, check your trailer's brakes, grease all zerks on suspension (8 per side), if you have solar, check to make sure the knobs holding the panel are tight, make sure you have fresh, clean water in your hot water heater before turning it on, make sure you have some fresh, clean water Probably a few more things to check but here are at least a few things to get started on... Edit: Scuba just posted so there may be some additional or overlapping comments between us.

  36. Thanks to a member of the forum, I was put in touch with some folks at the Red Bay, Alabama Girard plant. Once I explained my problem, they knew exactly what the problem was. Fortunately it was a 5 minute fix! The motor/spool assembly is held in the cassette by three phillps head screws on each end. They are visible once the end caps are removed. He said the roller assembly fits inside the cassette with very little clearance. Sometimes the screws are tightened enough to slightly torque the assembly causing it to rub inside the cassette. The solution is to loosen the screws by about one turn. I tried this and it worked immediately. His suggestion was to leave the screws in that position with no worries of them loosening further. He also confirmed that the spring arms do all the work when extending the awning. All the motor does is spool out the tarp. Thanks again to Geronimo John and dewdev for their responses. I now know more than I ever wanted to know about the operation of the Girard 750!

  37. 2021 LE2 For my Aventa installation, I provided the Truma service center with the Emerson thermostat. However, Truma recommended that we re-use the existing Dometic thermostat. (they added a resistor or something to the ceiling box) The Dometic furnace works fine and we still have the original OEM Dometic thermostat "look" and thermostat power source. Steve

  38. Hello, I am not really a newbie but sort of one I guess! We have a 2016 OTT Elite 2 #111. We have had it in our heated garage for the last 2 years due to illness and other life events. We are getting ready to head out for a short trip next week. I would like a list of what we need to check before we head out. It seems overwhelming as we will be relearning (again) how to use "Olivia". I know we need to santize the water system but I haven't been able to find a list about taking it out of storage. So please direct me to one if it exists. Many Thanks, Linda

  42. Mark, Welcome to Oliver ownership and the forum. For your truck specifics, look at the RECEIVER of your F150 Hitch for a Rating Sticker. The one below is from a 2018 F150 with max tow package. It shows two sets of numbers, Weight Distributing: States max trailer weight and max tongue weight for the hitch if you are using a weight distribution trailer hitch (like the Anderson used on Olivers). In this case 12,200 lb trailer and 1,220 lbs direct downward force of tongue weight. An Elite II full of food and gear weighs between 5500-6500 lbs. The tongue weight is about 10% of that and can range from 525-700 lbs depending on how you've loaded the trailer. (10% of Trailer Wt calculated as tongue weight is a goal for a very stable tow with the Oliver Elite II) Weight Carrying: States the max trailer weight when you are NOT using a weight distribution hitch. This is just dropping a trailer on the ball and driving away. Note it's set to a 5000 lb trailer (like the Elite single axle) and 500lb's max tongue weight. Most of the time you'll find that a loaded Oliver Elite II will have greater than a 500lb tongue weight. (Ours runs in the 620+ range because we have a front basked full of gear. Implication: If you have an F150 with these receiver ratings, you should be using a weight distributing Anderson hitch with your Oliver Elite II for safety purposes. Hull 505 Galway Girl Craig Short

  43. I noticed that the awning on our 2014 Elite II sometimes takes a while to get it fully retracted. On closer inspection, I’ve discovered that Tali’s arm was giving out at about half way and she was having to rest a while before finishing winding it completely in. Glad it wasn’t something more serious.

  45. Excellent comment.... but only up to the point of running out of roller. The root cause of "barber polling" is likely that the canopy has been stretched and is no longer a rectangle of the size it once was. This can easily happen over it's lifetime. Or it can be the direct result of owner error in adverse weather conditions such as high winds and/or heavy rain. Mine appears to have been caused by my lowering the outboard rear end support brace to the ground for the purpose of forcing rain to drain near the rear (Away from the door area). Was a great idea...up to the point that it wasn't. When it stretched they generally become a parallelogram. The amount of "barber poling" that a given set-up can tolerate is dependent upon how much extra top roller space you have. If your canopy is say 14 feet wide and your top roller shaft is two inches longer, then you can adjust the canopy left or right to allow for up to 2" of wonky roll-up. This is what my OEM Carefree (SIC) OTT canopy had. Problem was that I needed three more inches of top roller shaft.... For this reason, when ordering replacement canopies, I recommend buying one at least several inches narrower than the OEM canopy My new one has four inches of such space. With that space, it is possible to do as you suggested several times and not have to replace the canopy. Which I hope to make a moot issue by not being creative in my canopy drainage plan..... Cost Saving Rule of Thumb: Don't let water pond on your canopy. Crank it in and lower the leading edge so it drains well if rain is in the forecast.
