Thought I would share my latest projects… We enjoy boondocking mostly. While we enjoy the utility of our Ollie inverter, I’m trying to convert as many appliances to operate on twelve volt as possible. 12 Volt Television Conversation We sometimes enjoy streaming video or playing a downloaded movie at the end of our day. I looked into 12 volt televisions but good ones like the Jensen are expensive and besides, the Oliver installed Vizio works satisfactorily. So, I found a way to convert the Vizio to operate directly from the Ollie battery. Opening the [TV] case I located a Tiny Whoop 12 volt input. I purchased a Tiny Whoop JST-PH 2.0 male plug for the input. I was concerned about the sensitive electronic [Vizio] components given the variability of the voltage of our batteries. I solved this by integrating a Voltage Stabilizer DC 12 Volt Regulator/12 Volt Surge Protector. This was mounted to the rear of the [TV] case. Finally, I integrated a fused 12 volt charging cable with cigarette lighter type plug. I plug into the outlet in the cabinet above the TV when needed. Works great! TV operates normally. 12 Volt Security System Where we often find ourselves camping in secluded desert or forest we are a bit concerned about security when we’re out hiking or otherwise away from our Ollie. We use many devices to immobilize the trailer but we’re still concerned about someone breaking in. So, I purchased an inexpensive KERUI Alarm System on Amazon. It’s designed to be powered by house current with an adapter. I eliminated the adapter and wired in a 12 volt to 9 volt DC Converter, Voltage Regulator to power the alarm; plugged into a twelve volt outlet. It uses a handheld remote to activate or deactivate and I use the included motion sensors inside. Works great! Alarm is very scary!!! 12 Volt UV LED Water Treatment System To complement our three stage water purification system we installed the Acuva UV LED ArrowMAX 2.0 Water Treatment System at the galley sink. (Okay, so I’m a bit obsessive about our drinking water.) The system comes with a 12 volt adapter to use with shore power. I eliminated this by wiring a 12 volt line to the fuse panel. 12 Volt Portable Freezer We like to store plenty of food for grilling and extended travel and so that we can purchase frozen food in reasonable quantities. Where our Ollie freezer is so limited we use the Dometic CFX3 35 Refrigerator/Freezer for this. I ran a 12 volt line to the basement storage area and installed a marine grade 12 volt outlet. The CFX3 35 runs on 120 volt or 12 volt. So, when we’re traveling, the freezer gets plugged into the 120 volt outlet in the bed of our pickup. When we’re camped, the freezer is positioned just to the rear of the Ollie and plugged into the basement 12 volt outlet. Uses very little power! Next project Adapting the Starlink to run off 12 volt…4 points

The inline fuses I know about protect from over amperage, not over voltage. By simple math, to a point, that can be interperted as a power control method, as Power = V * A. But the failure it protects is amperage. Also, the typical inline fuses often have a 250 max voltage limit. Not a level we want to see anywhere in our OTT's. GJ4 points

The procedure for Sanitizing is on the Oliver University section of the forum. I suggest that you watch that prior to doing the sanitizing (and take notes as I did). I agree with SeaDawg that you might want to sanitize twice. Make sure to drain the fresh water tank completely before starting the second sanitizing effort.2 points

A potential source is that one or more of your ducts have come apart. This happens often in flex duct applications. GJ2 points

Also available from Amazon if, like us, you live a 1+ hour drive from the nearest Walmart. The one linked below is 1/2" thick, the size I prefer to work with. https://www.amazon.com/Winco-CBWT-1218-Cutting-Board-2-Inch/dp/B001D3LQVA/ref=asc_df_B001D3LQVA/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=459434780851&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17772694070414201680&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9029558&hvtargid=pla-448665261987&th=12 points

Many of us DYIers use wallmart poly cutting boards and cut them to the desired size. Cheap and easily found. I recommend buying their thicker ones. Also I JB Weld it in place with thru wall SS bolts with fender washers. GJ2 points

Try this earlier thread on the same topic: HDPE "Marine Board" is good for some things, PVC "Foam Board" is good for other things...2 points

Got it back together Friday. Laying on the ground to get the adjusters close, what a pain! You have to turn the power up on your brake controller when first towing. Pulled the Oliver some on Sat and Sun. Used the controller actuator to get them to kick in often and adjust. Got the brakes nice now. I can't understand wanting manual adjust shoes, not me. And the wheels had quite a bit of up-n-down play before. Not anymore and it's done finally.2 points

I just spent a day at the Mothership and Anita is back at the office, doing her usual great job helping folks find their forever trailer. It was good to see her again.2 points

We had an electronic lock on our last trailer and really liked it, so we ordered the RVLock Oliver installs. Don't like it as much as the one we had, which seemed to be better quality. It was made by LatchIt. It's an easy self-install. Same here. Great on the highway and I also use it if I have to back into a site solo. I put an orange leveling block on the ground as a target where I want the back of the trailer to end up. I'm going to use it backing into the garage, too. (Always better to have a human spotter when you can, though!) We like our upgraded non-KTT mattresses, so that's a matter of taste. You should go to the factory and try them out if you can.1 point

Aluminum tape is amazing. I used lots of it on the furnace and ducts when after delivery I discovered some problems. Sticks great. Haven't tested any noise- dampening qualities yet, but I have to imagine it will help, especially after I'm able to crawl into the basement area (claustrophobia?) and put reflectix on the ceiling and other walls of the basement.1 point

Looking at the thermostat temperature data during the over-night period after stabilization when there is likely very little activity i.e., door/window opening, movement etc., the control looks pretty good. It looks like single-cycle variance of the thermostatic control algorithm is approximately 2 degrees with a cycle period of approximately 30 minutes per cycle consistently throughout the over-night; pretty good. The average temperature over the entire over-night control period is very consistent with negligible wanderation suggesting good control. I doubt that my house control is that good. It’s hard to say what factors influenced the data prior to and after the over-night periods, possibly activities within the trailer; hard to say. I’m not sure what would cause the temperatures to be what they are inside the equipment bays, it might be interesting to see what the skin temperature of the furnace itself is as it may be radiating heat towards the water pump area.1 point

LOL, my guess is that he is parked on a steep upward slope, there is no way in this universe that an Ollie can actually be towed with a foot and half of droop at the hitch. If I am wrong, please post some pictures. And yes, leaving the fridge on in any mode at that angle is very very bad for it. https://olivertraveltrailers.com/forums/topic/8865-fridge-fires-if-you-have-an-older-hull-you-really-need-to-pull-out-that-fridge-now/ John Davies Spokane WA1 point

My adventures in reflectix have begun. The first photo shows one single layer cut to fit the basement door. No glue or tape, just cut to fit and pressed in. We'll see if it stays in place when on the road, otherwise I'll use some double sided tape. The second photo shows the two hatch lids under the street side bed. The fourth shows how I used some foam strips to keep about 3/4 of an inch space between the two layers for increased R value. Per advice above, I used the spray adhesive only to stick the foam pieces on the reflectix, then used aluminum tape around the edges. Next week I'll continue working on the basement area.1 point

A couple of years ago there was a thread that discussed this material and related materials in some depth. Bill1 point

Most boat parts/supply shops carry the material. You can also find it on Amazon. Marine Board HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) Marine Board is known under many different monikers, such as Marine Grade HDPE, Sea Board, Star Board, Marine Plywood, and Marine Lumber. Despite having numerous names, all forms of Marine Board are made of specially treated high density polyethylene, or HDPE.1 point

Two different systems, and never the twain shall meet. However, the same black gunk you talked about may very well have caused your Truma problem, as well. If I remember correctly, you bought a 2019 trailer. Did you drain, refill, and sanitize the plumbing system? No matter how meticulous previous owner tried to be, gunk can grow. You don't know how long ago it was sanitized. When you get home, I'd do the sanitizing routine at least twice. And rinse all the crap out of the water heater. After sanitizing twice, fill tank with fresh, and run all faucets (not at once) to drain. Get that gunk out.1 point

Wait for the upcoming larger EcoFlow River 2 Max, I have the 600 and it is stellar but a little too small in capacity. A larger one of around 1000 or 1200 watts is expected. I will buy one and gift my 600 to a relative. They are blowing out their older models with regular fire bomb lithium batteries and soon I expect to see all of their products to have LiFePO4 battery technology like the Olivers have. Sign up for emails and they have excellent special member deals. https://us.ecoflow.com/ https://thetechnologyman.com/ecoflow-river-2-max-review-best-500w-portable-power-station/ John Davies Spokane WA1 point

Yes...that's it. Just be certain that your new panels have their own solar controller and that the polarity (reversing adapter (if necessary) are there. Bill Just to be safe - you might also want to check the fuse on that Zamp external port.1 point
-
The zamp connector, as installed by Oliver, requires input from a separate controller. It's set up for "suitcase solar", ie, panel(s) with their own separate controller. The zamp connector connects directly to the battery bank, via an inline fuse to protect against over-voltage. If you want to upgrade your portable panels, you must provide a separate, appropriate controller between the panels and the batteries, in the standard configuration. So, yes, you can upgrade to 200 watts, add a controller that accommodates the new panels, and you'll be fine. What you CAN'T do is send unregulated power from panels without a controller to the port.1 point

On our way over to Cortez CO we detoured into the town of Telluride aka “ski meca” with our Ollie in tow and actually scored a spot to park right on Main Street. The Aspens are just popping in peak color in many areas. We enjoyed a great lunch in town and took the free gondola ride up the mountain. It was short sleeve weather and really a great day. We will do a little exploring in Mesa Verde NP today. Onward!🇺🇸 Telluride from the mountain side State route 145 is a really beautiful drive especially this time of year.1 point

Reaching New Heights- Yesterday we drove through the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. We have had excellent weather and it was a beautiful day. We had the park pretty much to ourselves. We entered free with our senior pass. A must see for sure. Onward to Cortez CO today for more exploring. IMG_9898.mov1 point

It’s a must see for sure! 👍🏻 A few more photos taken today while touring the Million Dollar Highway…amazing. My Bride, Navigator and Copilot shot a few beauties! Sept and October is the only time we will visit Colorado for many reasons. We had the road to ourselves in the Beast. Tomorrow we will tour Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Then Friday morning we take off and move our base camp to Cortez, CO. ⭐️ A link worth a read if you decide to drive the million dollar highway aka Highway 550. https://www.durangoherald.com/articles/million-dollar-highway-named-to-list-of-most-dangerous-roads-in-the-u-s/ Onward!🇺🇸🇺🇸1 point
