  1. It's been that way since we sold our 5 year old 2008 Elite in 2013.

  2. We picked up last Thursday and our fridge was not on and the trailer was still winterized, even though we requested it be flushed and ready. I would just give them a call the day prior and make sure they are aware of your requests.

  3. Soooo, this was an interesting project. I had tested the ball on the end of the zerk fitting before seeking input above on how to remove the wet bolt. pushed it with a small nail punch and it seemed to work well. I did spray both the inside and outside of the wet nut with a penetrating oil. It probably helped some but I feel that the load on the shackle was preventing the nut from being hammered loose. I took most of the weight off the tires on that side and let it sit on a couple of floor jacks, one each on the appropriate jack points in front and behind the tires. I then used a scissor jack to see-saw the Dexter suspension rocker to minimize the tension on the shackle encasing the wet bolt. Jason, the Oliver shop manager, wisely suggested backing the nut to the end of the thread of the bolt to give a larger surface to hammer on. Too bad for me that I got that info after going to town with a hammer. Oh well. The nut did break free - finally. used a float punch (wide head punch) to drive it out of the shackle which turned out to be smart cause the punch itself was what kept the two parts semi aligned when the nut popped free. I tested the nut and zerk by pumping grease through them and they worked fine. After talking to Dexter, my conclusion is that the nut had been installed incorrectly. The little hole that the grease comes out is supposed to be at 3:00 or 9:00 and, turned facing say 6:00 or 12:00, will not dispense grease. Could not find a replacemt local and did not have the stomach to wait for shipping for the $10 part so used a $4 thread cutter to repair the mushroomed threads (damaged by my misguided removal process) and reinstalled. Took some tweaking to line up the parts of the shackle but none too ugly. Guess I did OK as it took grease as it's supposed to. John was right that allowing the penetrant time to do it's thing seemed to be key. Wish I had read the Neuman's post before reinstalling as an application of anti seize would have been prudent but I did grease the nut well so hopefully that grease does not wash out or dry up and works as a lubricant when I replace the nut when it's time to grease the bearings. Will certainly pick up a can of Kroil too. Thanks all for thoughtful responses.

  4. Anyone wondering the difference between the GUTS of Battleborn vs. Lithionics may want to watch this from the Fit RV. A teardown that compares the GTX3 Lithionics Battery to the Battleborns.

  5. Don There is a wire that goes out the back to the light for the license plate, there is plenty of room to run the extra wires and this is all very accessible. Paul

  6. I wouldn't think that Oliver would winterized your new trailer, as I would think that most would be camping the first night after delivery. Ours was inside the building (July) and all was working for the delivery demo, Phil was great. trainman

  10. Pulled Tail #1052 out of the Ollie hangar on 17 March, stayed on the OTT ramp that night. Day 2 we departed for a Harvest Host winery about 15 miles east where we spent the night, then a Harvest Host brewery on night 3 in Alabaster AL, before landing back in the FL panhandle on Sunday. Trip went well, love the camper. Thanks to all the awesome forum members whose knowledgeable contributions went a long way in helping us prepare for our delivery. Still much to learn, but so far so good! BTW, I'm not smart enough to figure out how to rotate the pics left or right...

  12. Even if the fridge is running/cold at delivery make sure it operates in all modes: AC shore power, DC battery power, and propane (if you get the 3 way fridge). A few owners have had issues with the fridge AC plug not plugged into the AC power outlet receptacle.

  13. 770 was not flushed, filled with fresh water nor was the fridge running when we arrived for PU last May. Expect to have to perform all this stuff upon delivery. It was however, very clean and otherwise ready to roll.

  14. It might also show up in REI's Outlet online -- not being near a storefront, this is a great place to start.

  15. Your asking questions that no one can answer, Oliver is a top rated trailer, so you would have to assume that it will stay that way, but if the economy really starts to falter then everything goes down and RV's and hobbies are the first to go. As far as NADA, it's only a guide on prices, but how can they even say what Oliver prices are, there is virtually only a hand full for sale at any given time. At this time I would say that sellers of Oliver's are getting probably just about all of the purchase price back on resale, but no one knows how long this will last. trainman

  16. Hi John. I did not drill drain holes in the bottom of the support bars. The plugs are only in the outer exposed ends, so any water that gets into the bars should drain or evaporate from the open inner ends under the trailer. Thanks again for the inspiration to make this modification.

  17. I finished installing mud flaps on our 2021 LE2 today. The street side mud flap does not clear the basement door, as on JED's trailer, but the door does open fully when the upper part of the flap is bent forward a bit. That's not a big deal, but I do wonder what the difference is between our trailers. The 1"x2" aluminum tubing I used is attached to the forward part of the lateral angle that is part of the sub-frame, and the flap is attached to the front of the aluminum support as in the photos of other installations. I suspect that the lateral angle piece is welded to the sub-frame further to the rear of the trailer, rather than there being a difference in the size of the basement door opening. I added plugs to the exposed ends of the aluminum supports to give a more finished appearance. I bought them on Amazon (where else?). https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CNCCR7S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  19. Paul, That is very helpful information. Separately, I heard from Jason Essary, Oracle Service, who appears to recommend the same access approach (although is wasn't something Oliver Service had ever done). He mentioned the faux wall in the basement must be removed to access the wiring to the lights. I will pursue this course. Thanks, Don

  21. Just arrived back in Maine after leaving Nashville on Sunday. The Ollie is back in its barn! 4 months and 12,000 plus miles without incident. No issues with the Ollie in temperature ranging from the mid 90s to 5 degrees. Elevation from sea level to over 8000 feet. We saw and experienced a lot. We have achieved what we set out to do when we purchased the trailer. Our plans were fulfilled. We will begin preparing for summer on the coast of Maine. We will be making some changes so we will be following our original plan and listing the Olliver for sale very soon. This was our plan all along after this trip. We will be including some extras that will be helpful and cost saving for a new owner. Oliver provided full service on the trailer in December. Keep your eyes peeled in the classifieds on this forum and on the Olliver Facebook forum. We expect to be listing the trailer soon!!! Thanks

  24. Ask 10 people and you’ll get 10 different answers. I’ll second the comments by Jim on considering the GM 1/2 ton with the 3.0L Duramax diesel and 10 speed transmission. So far I’ve put 13k trouble free miles on my 2021 Silverado 1500 3.0L and about 4k towing our Oliver. That’s not much but I’ve been very pleased. No doubt a 3/4 ton has more power and payload - if you need it. When you consider cost (3.0 diesel is only $950 upgrade over gasser) and amazing fuel economy in a full size 4x4 pickup, there is a lot to like. It’s a new, from-the-ground-up designed engine and I worry a bit about reliability but so far it’s flawless. Smooth and lots of torque at lower Rpm. Tech and towing package are great

  26. We just pulled our #1049 home from birth to Shenandoah, Tx this weekend. I want to make sure do not do anything to harm her so I want advice from the educated to supplement the owner manual. The Ollie will be in sitting for a few months. Thanks in advance, Glen & Rhonda Patterson

  27. Will the trailer be at your home? Easy to monitor? Assuming you have the Platinum Package (630 ah) ... I would reduce the charge to 13.2 volts per the manual and then turn the batteries off using the BMS power button. Get one of those weather stations with a remote temperature sensor to monitor the temp inside the battery box. If it looks like it's going to get above 86 degrees you may want to take them out and put them inside where the temps will stay in that 14 - 86 degree range. Good Luck and please let us know how things are working out. Scotty PS.. just realized you have the PRO package... I checked the Lithionics manual for those batteries and the storage requirements are the same as for the larger batteries. I would also download the manual and read it thoroughly.

  32. I'd refer to you to the storage instructions for Lithionics batteries (see below) in Oliver's knowledge base. Your storage approach depends on the length of time in storage and temperature.

  33. I'd echo what Mike says. However, make absolutely sure that each time you go by her you say hello. New Ollies are particularly sensitive to those that don't "care"!😊 Bill

  34. If you have a REI store near you, keep an eye out at their Garage Sale section. The rotating valve appears to be confusing to many, so it gets returned and can often be had for $40-70. Get the XL model and don't worry that the corners are square as they will conform to the contour of the hull.

  35. If it was me I would just park it. Let the solar charge the batteries each day. There will be some discharge overnight. When I asked my Battle Born rep he said open storing would be fine. They just don’t like the charger to be on all the time. Since you won’t be hooked up to shore power that isn’t even possible. Hopefully we’re done with freezes, especially around Houston. Hope your return trip went well! Mike

  36. I use one of these, wrapped in a colorful, patterned wool blanket, on top of the factory cushion. Then when it is time for bed, out comes the sleeping bag and ZZZZZ. In the morning, the sleeping bag goes in the stuff sack and into the closet, along with the pillow and the colorful wool blanket over the sleeping pad stays in place. This sleeping pad fits the twin perfectly and is just as comfortable as my custom, handmade mattress at home. https://www.rei.com/product/147924/rei-co-op-camp-dreamer-xl-self-inflating-deluxe-bed

  37. To be fair - my sleeping bag system is actually a four part affair. I start with a regular twin size mattress pad/cover. It is "form fit" by using those stretch tightening clips (like THESE). I then place a bottom sheet (custom fit by my wife) over the mattress pad. Then comes the rectangular sleeping bag - more room for the feet versus the mummy style bags. Finally I add a light weight sleeping bag liner like THIS. Not only are these liners very soft but they can easily be taken to the laundromat with the rest of the dirty stuff. In turn, this keeps the regular sleeping bag clean and the liner can be used on top of the regular bag when it is hot, inside the regular bag with the regular bag open when it is "normal" temperatures and everything totally zip together when I'm at altitude with the water freezing! It certainly works for me. Bill

  38. HI Marv Not to say I have all the answers so I will tell you my last twenty years of towing. First i just sold my 2008 Airstream 25 (5600 lbs dry and 960 in hitch weight), my wife and I put 65,000 miles on it towing with a 2014 Silverado 1500 with a 5.3 and 6 speed trans. The truck had a max tow PKG and a 373 axle . The mpg around home 19/20, towing if i stayed in the 65/70 range was 11to 12 mpg . The last trip in TX and AZ running 75 to 80+ milage was 10 to 11. I never use cruise unless it flat with no wind. With all that said I am waiting for my Elite 2 in June and my new 2022 chevy 1500 with the 3.0 and 10 speed. For the last 20 years at work I have towed boat all over Michigan and other parts of the country. I have used GMC 1500 ,2500,and 3500 both gas diesel, tow from 5000 lbs to 19,000 lbs. When I grab a truck to tow I always when i could a truck that was rated for twice trailer as the load i was moving. By doing that it was a lot nice drive, and it also gave me the best tow milage. On the 5.3 i had it ran down the highway towing @ 2200 to 2450 rpm in 5 gear and would up shift in to 6 on fall roads or with a tail wind. The Oliver weights less then my own boat by 1000 lbs a nd the hitch will be about the same. i tow the boat all over MI with out a weight equalizing hitch ,but with Sumo Springs installed. Boats do not tow near as good as Airstreams or Olivers. So with all that said I have a 2022 chevy 1500 with a 3.0 max 4 wheel drive with a 10 speed . 12900 lbs tow rating and a 2100 lbs payload I my add Sumo Spring ( 1000 lbs units) mostly to stop the bounce when towing the boat , they create a lot more bounce than travel trailers. The GM 6.6 gasser are testing a 10 speed for 2023 to help them get some milage ( family works for GM trans) lots of power for heavy loads around town but I wouldn't buy one for la daily drive or long hauling.
