John E Davies Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Franklin Mountain State Park outside of El Paso. Neat! Can you post a pic of the actual camping area? This may sound weird, but are there often ticks in that brush? Around where I live there is mostly sagebrush in the desert parts and it is open to free range cattle, plus lots of wildlife, so ticks sometimes are super abundant. They practically leap off the bushes at you... very disheartening. I walk with a stout cane and sometimes use it to whack a bush before brushing past it, in an attempt to dislodge the nasties. Thanks. BackofBeyond Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Living here in the SE, ticks are just expected. We spend a lot of time in the forest/brush/tall grass. In season its normal to do a tick inspection at days end. A good spray of Cutters helps, but is not fool proof. My dog gets special treatment - an oral pill every 3 months - works very well, but not on humans, alas. Quite honestly, its not something I worry about, I should, I suspect. After 30 plus years in the area, I just accept it and go on. I never worried about it when out west - didn't think Lyme had spread that far, perhaps the spotted fever is there however. Weird, in my younger days I spent a lot of time working in and around the swamps of South Louisiana, and I don't remember ticks being an issue, snakes and alligators, yes, ticks no. Oh, and mosquitos the size of hummingbirds..... The good old days. 1 Cindy, Russell and "Harley dog" . John Davies Spokane WA Franklin Mountain State Park only has 5 RV sites. No hookups and no dump station. $7/night. It’s basically a small loop with three sites on the outside and 2 on the inside. Sites 1 and 2 are not very level. Site 3 (our site) was better. 4 and 5 on the inside are pretty level. We didn’t venture into the brush, it was just an overnight stop on the way to Quartzsite. We walked the road down to the tent sites. 4 1 Texas Hill Country | 2016 Elite II #135 | 2020 Ram 2500 6.7L

We’re at a COE campground between Fresno and Yosemite. We’ve been working our way up CA, head to Napa tomorrow. We had a great visit to Death Valley NP and also Yosemite NP. Yosemite was a ghost town yesterday, hardly anyone there. Great weather but 5 feet of snow forecasted for today and tomorrow. Hidden Lake COE campground.... Dave and Cindy Posted May 5, 2019 Posted May 5, 2019 Horseneck State Park, Westport, MA This was a nice spot overlooking the ocean. We were in row two and there are no electric or water hookups. We used our generator for the first time to make coffee in the morning. Not the reason we have it but a nice perk. (Please note the hard earned pun!) The park was about $30 for the night. There were a lot of spaces but it was also pretty full - lots of fishermen. It was convenient for visiting New Bedford Whaling Historic site. The park is between RI and Cape Cod. The pretty sunset a bonus. 3 Dave & Cindy #076 Photographer * Traveler www.twolanetouring.com Posting Daily - National Parks, Camping and more.

John E Davies Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Roughing it along the Snake River SW of Pullman WA, NW of Lewiston ID, on the east bank of the river. There is a nice 9 spot county campground a little north of here (Wawaiwai County Park -no hookups $15) but the free dispersed pullouts along the highway a mile south of there are the best. This one is at Granite Point, a granite dike in the horizontal basalt beds that are so typical of this region. It can be very windy, especially if the direction funnels it along the canyon. There is a train track nearby, we saw two short slow freights in 18 hours. Highway traffic is local, minimal and non-existent at night. There are a few barges making their way along through the locks, and an occasional fisherman. There is a lot of wood debris, sometimes big logs, in these lakes, which are downstream from Hells Canyon .... a sturdy boat is best, like a Duckworth Jet, or you risk prop damage. Just south of the county park is the rowing center for the Washington State University rowing team. There is a public boat launch there and a viewing area so you can watch the training runs and competitions. Our spot got lots of sun once it got above the surrounding hills. I got to test my new flagpole and spinner wind art. I’ll post a separate thread about that. I love these COE lake spots.
