  1. Great to see another Ollie on the hoof! Nice wave and a big welcome smile as I sailed past. Whomever you are - thanks for making a long drive memorable! Bill

  3. We’ve been camping around Colorado since early June and we’ve passed a couple of Olivers on some back highways. We’re currently near Steamboat with a Scamp on one side and a Casita on the other. There’s an Escape just 50 yards away. Can’t beat this weather! Mike

  4. We had the retrofit completed on 6/23 and have the following observations: Truma Aventa Improvements over Dometic Penguin: Drastic reduction in noise volume. I can hear it but unlike the Penguin I can talk over it with normal voice and be heard. I can watch movies and listen to music now without resorting to absurd volume levels. From outside the trailer it is almost impossible to determine that it’s running. At Camp Oliver, I noted the latter on two other OEIIs, one new and one other retrofit. Having a remote allows control without having to get out of bed. In high humidity environments, the dehumidify mode can quickly cut the relative humidity in half (about 15 minutes, not measured). I haven’t measured it yet but it does appear to reduce trailer maximum height by a couple of inches. The interior feels more comfortable with the Aventa than with the Penguin. It distributes air better and cools more quickly. Anomalies: According to Oliver and Truma, the filters are not cleanable and must be replaced at an approximate cost of $30/pair. (The filters do however appear to be cleanable.) The Penguin has cleanable filters. Dehumidify function is not available on CPPlus control. The CPPlus and IR remote controls are independent. Neither learns all of the settings performed by the other control (the CPPlus does learn some settings). This is not relevant to the water heater which can only be controlled by the CPPlus. The CPPlus rotary push button has a very stiff feel. I often have to push it multiple times to get it to work while avoiding applying excessive force. I wonder if this is a defective unit? The dehumidify function may drastically lower the temperature. I noted a nine degree drop (to 62) the first time I used it. On subsequent uses, the drop was more like 3-4 degrees. The dehumidify function is free-running with no added control. For example, there is no way to set a desired relative humidity nor a temperature limiting range. The lower panel cover on the IR remote is mostly in the way. Commonly used functions such as Dehumidify and Night Mode are hidden. I slide the panel open and then do not latch it closed unless I’m traveling. The IR receiver is too precise, meaning that one must accurately point the remote at it for the function to take effect. This results in a common error, meaning the Retransmit button should also not be hidden below the sliding cover. I have found that the sliding cover is too stiff and difficult to open. There is no illumination on the remote making it impossible to use most functions in the dark. About the only thing that can be done is to change the temperature or turn it off/on. The CPPlus is illuminated. When, for example, Auto Mode has previously been set by the IR remote, changing this from the CPPlus control can be challenging. First, one must set Cool mode and the temperature and wait for it to take effect (the panel reverts to normal idle display). Then one can set the fan speed. Before Cool mode has been set, any attempt to control the fan speed will show only the Auto option. Except when using Dehumidify mode, it almost makes sense to use the CPPlus panel to do everything. When the Aventa is On, the fan is running. Auto mode will not shut the fan off when the cooling cycle ends. Perhaps I’ll become more comfortable with this over time, but I find this control system to be unnecessarily complicated and not very user friendly. For this level of product, this is an area where much more attention should have been paid. For example, the ease of controlling the AquaGo with the rotary switch (rotate one position from Off to Comfort) is replaced by: press button to wake-up; rotate to water heater; press button; rotate to COMFORT mode; press button to set mode; press button again to confirm 120 degree water temperature. When fully equipped (2023 models), the CPPlus becomes a common point of failure for the AC, heater, and water heater. Let's hope it is very reliable. I opted for the CPPlus because it provided a redundant control, and in the hope that Truma/Oliver will eventually offer the VarioHeat as an upgrade. The CPPlus panel and IR remote do not appear to be software upgradable. Once you’ve bought into it, what you see is what you get. The CPPlus panel says that it’s iNet Ready. Truma discontinued iNet on 1/1/23, replacing it with iNet X. They show a picture of a different control panel than the CPPlus that Oliver is selling. Truma still sells CPPlus, calling it their “basic” operating panel. iNet is an external box that must be wired into the panel, and would probably have to be installed below the Oliver dinette seat. Truma offers the iNet X panel as a retrofit for the CPPlus. The iNet X panel can be updated via the iNet X app. There is no mention of an upgradable remote. AFAIK, there is no external box, only the iNet X panel and app. It is unclear whether or not the iNet X panel will physically fit into the required space in the OEII. Also note that depending on model year and possibly other factors, Oliver installed the Truma AquaGo rotary knob, Xantrex panel, and SeeLevel panels in different ordering, which may also have an effect on the ability to install an iNet X panel. Having noted these anomalies, also note that we are very pleased with the Aventa itself.

  9. FYI: We bought 20 clips for Casablanca from Ryder Cogdill at the OTT Parts team... We replaced them all and now have several extras in my spares kit. They're running about $2/clip as I recall... Bottom line: Prior to buying new clips --- we had at least one blind fall after a routine towing run, you can carefully spread the clips, but we actually broke a couple doing that. With new clips installed and 2k+ miles later - no fallen blinds, (knocking on wood).

  10. And thank you to John, HDRider and MAX Burner, for your kind welcomes! We spent a few nights on top the AZ High Country. Our camp site was at 7580 ft with afternoon high of mid 80s, when home in Prescott was high 90s (Phoenix 112)! Very comfortable in the shade of the pines. We were on the base on Kendrick Mountain, with a short hike we could see the San Francisco peaks and the slopes of the Arizona Snow Bowl. We could only see Kendrick when driving to and from the site, since we camped at the base of the mountain. One picture below is from just north of Parks AZ, looking back at Kendrick Mtn. Our Oliver got quite dirty on the back roads. We drove a good 20 miles of dirt getting to the campsite and she got a good pressure washing when we got home. Our only complaint is the tanks! I thought the % tank readings would be more accurate on the Oliver but found that the readings change drastically when the level of the trailer changes. When can you get a trailer exactly level? Not in Arizona and not on our property when filling the fresh tank. I think we had only 20-25 gallons filled when fresh water came running out of the overflow. Good thing we equipped our TV with a 35-gallon fresh-water tank purchased at TSC. We pumped in another 20 gallons, and all was good! One future project for me is to reroute some plumbing to change these water valves w/o removing the bed! What were they thinking? It would be time to add a water accumulator too like I've seen on a newer EII.

  11. OEM Aventa on 2023 Elite. I concur with all of the above, except my measured height is ~2 inches higher than spec. I didn't have older AC to compare, but specification says 9 ft. (0 inches) I measured approx 9 ft 1.5 inches. Hopefully I never cut it that close. BTW, I did operate the AC on shore power 20A ckt, started and ran flawlessly. Onboard power monitor shows 6A when operating (after startup).

  20. Great report Chris. The super quiet “Truma chiller” as we now call it is a game changer full on! With the Truma being so efficient on low, I don’t think we will ever really need to run ours on med or high. I also really like the use of the original Oliver OEM condensate drain tubing which really makes for a sano install on the retro fit. Happy and cool! 😎

  23. @SeaDawg I don’t find that to be an issue, silicone bakeware is completely nonporous, it does not absorb odors/flavor from what you have cooked. I have found that it does at times add a bit more baking time than metal pans but not much.

  25. Those cube or rectangular shapes worked so well, stacking in the chest freezer and upright. We canned and froze everything in summer's bounty from the garden, and orchard, as a kid on the farm. Cleaning and plucking chicken was my least favorite task. I much preferred working with the fruits and vegetables. 😉

  26. I was curious, I did not see any type of sealer in the end, just more black plastic. I do not recall the brand, it might be the one that came on my trailer years ago. This has been sitting on my workbench literally for years. I think it is pretty cool, but I do tend to geek out on odd things. John Davies Spokane WA

  27. We used an edging material (available from Amazon that "edges" the doghouse exposed fiberglass edge and the spare tire cover edge) on the bed frame lip and around the edges of the upper cabinets - no more bloody fingers after making the beds or grabbing the plates stored in the overhead! Cheers! "Ravel-ON!" regardless...

  29. Not if you have a factory lithium package. They don't connect that 12v pin to the batteries. We used to carry a 7 pin socket wired that way for use in an emergency. If you had to leave your trailer on the side if the road at night because of a breakdown it would light the running lights while you were gone. (Should have incorporated a flasher unit, now that I think about it...)

  30. I got the EZZ Tire TPMS a few years ago and have been satisfied. Batteries are easy to change too. As rich.dev says - ANY TPMS is better than nothing! Whatever you do - get a TPMS with 6 sensors. You will need 4 sensors for the Ollie tires hitting the ground plus a 5th sensor for the spare tire. The 6th sensor is for the spare tire on your tow vehicle. Bill EEZ Tire can be found HERE.

  34. "That guy" is who none of us want to be. Years ago, at Gooseberry falls cg in Minnesota, I thought we were having an earthquake, or an air attack. A guy near us got up (before quiet hours ended), fired up his extremely loud genset, and probably just made coffee. Lasted 15 minutes. But, of course, I couldn't go back to sleep. Good on Truma to take care of you, and your neighbors.

  35. Thanks John. I couldn't either, but I like how quiet it is. After I turn the A/C off lately I have run the vent to maybe dry the inner parts of the unit. Not sure if it's necessary, but that's what I do now. John

  39. @SeaDawg Yes, it all works. I freeze many things. Olive oil and fresh basil is great frozen into cubes (ice cube size) then just drop them in the pan when you need some fresh basil. So many things you can freeze to make eating on the road so easy. The nice thing about the Souper Cubes is they are silicone so they release much easier than in plastic and you can bake in them too, multi purpose. I’ve baked mini loaves in them for camping, zucchini and banana bread. They can be used in a convection oven as well. “Souper” great product!

  40. I just freeze stuff in freezer baggies, flat. Use a pan that fits the freezer. For my freezer, just baggie between two cookie sheets. They do look nice, though. I sometimes freeze lemon juice or other things in an old ice cube tray. It all works. When I was a child, we'd freeze corn and other veggies in 1 lb butter cartons, in thin baggies, tied off. No zip locks in those days . When frozen, remove the big rectangular cubes, and re-use the carton forms. Same idea. But, pretty much free. Very stackable.

  44. If you install a DC fridge you will need a better way to recharge. For your gas fridge, use the propane mode when towing, but always be aware of the wind direction when refueling at a gas station. I have done this forever and have yet to blow something up. You can fix the lack of TV charging for the factory lithium batteries relatively easily, but you have to be able to fabricate a mount and run wires or hire somebody to do it. If your TV has a “smart” alternator you have to run a small gauge voltage sense wire all the way up to the engine bay, but most TVs do not require this. https://olivertraveltrailers.com/forums/topic/5270-how-to-redarc-dc-to-dc-11-amp-output-trailer-charger-installation/ Consider a separate DC compressor fridge located inside your truck, it will be very useful for stocking extra supplies. I carry a mid-sized ARB one for any trip longer than two weeks. I haven’t camped at over 8000 feet, but so far the gas fridge (running on propane) has been fine, even going over 10,000 foot passes. Run with what you have before getting too worried about upgrading..... John Davies Spokane WA
