  1. Hi Bill, I already cut the corner aka radius, it was easy with the electric knife. The mattress is 10” thick and the blue cooling foam is on the top side of the mattress that you lay on. It took about 2 hrs to complete the cutting. We already installed the new memory foam mattresses in the Ollie, it’s like sleeping on a cloud ☁️. Very pleased with the outcome. (Note the Southern Mattresses were 8.5” in thickness.) -David

  2. After sleeping on our twin Southern Mattresses in our Ollie, my wife and I both decided that the comfort level was not what we hoped for. We were experiencing pressure point pain in our shoulders and hip joints. We don’t experience this pain on our memory foam mattress at home. After some research, we decided to purchase the Casper “Element” memory foam mattress in a standard Queen size. We learned that Target is a retailer for the Element. We called our local Target store and found one in stock, asked them to hold it and we bought it. The element has many strong 5⭐️ reviews so we thought we would give it a try. After the purchase we brought it home and actually slept on it for a few hours on the floor of our home and are very happy with the comfort level, especially no pressure point shoulder and hip pain. Truly a night and day difference in comfort level from the Southern Mattress which uses coil springs. Naturally we wanted to be sure that this mattress was going to meet our comfort level before the cutting began. (Casper has a return policy if you don’t like the memory foam you can return it). After we were satisfied with the comfort level of the Element the surgery plan began. We used our Southern Mattress twin as a template for the radius and marked the foam. Then used an electric meat carving knife to carefully cut the 10” foam in to two halves for what Oliver calls a twin sized mattress. Essentially we made two 30” X 75” mattresses naturally with the radius to fit our Ollie. Choosing the 10” thick Casper Element allowed us to use our existing AB lifestyle fitted water proof mattress cover and fitted sheet and blankets. (We sold both the Southern Mattresses to a nice couple from Georgia who are taking delivery of their OLEll in Dec). Happy Camping! A few pics - note- Naturally mattress comfort is very subjective. So what feels comfortable to some may not be to others. 10” thick Memory foam with mattress cover after radius cut- Memory foam before cutting the radius-

  3. Just saw this news. Colonial Pipeline is shutting down the pipeline. Just thought I would post up since this pipeline supplies about 75% of North Carolina’s fuel. Hopefully there won’t be a run on the pumps, this is wishful thinking.. Not a lot of info in this article, but be aware. https://www.wcnc.com/article/news/local/colonial-pipeline-hurricane-ida-shutdown/275-3f202108-3427-449d-bafc-2ae9575dd778

  4. KOA’s are a last resort for an overnight stay for us when traveling. The sites are very close crowded and cramped in our experience. There are two in the Asheville NC area which we drove through just to look at a few years ago. East Asheville KOA is very tight and one can easily hear the interstate. The West Asheville KOA is not any better. The KOA in Boone NC is ok, but still close and cramped. The KOA in Fancy Gap, Va is ok for an overnight stay as well as the one in Travelers Rest, SC however both are pretty cramped or tightly packed. The KOA in the Cherokee territory in Western NC is another very crowded CG. That said, they still manage to book sites and pack lots of “campers” in. KOA’s are not what we consider a great camping experience due to the high density of cramped campers. We always jokingly ask ourselves when we see super cramped CG’s. Could they squeeze at least one or two more campsites in between the existing sites? 🙄😂

  7. I don't know anything about the Casper mattress, but I'm a big fan of their pillows. I'm impressed with the work - you obviously know how to wield an electric knife. Great job with the cover also.

  10. The switches themselves are the same as used elsewhere in the trailer and are not waterproof. An optional splash-proof boot is used on the bath switches. On my 2018, Oliver used ZF/Cherry RR and SR series switches , part numbers: RRA32H3FBBNN (DPST for light) and SRJ23A3BBBNN (SPDT for water pump 3-way). The optional boot is p/n 00150751. For later model trailers, I'd recommend pulling one of the more accessible switches by the door and verifying mfg and numbers. It might be easiest to just source them from Oliver but Digikey stocks them I believe.

  11. The original Elites, like our 2008, don't have a pump switch in the bathroom. It has never bothered me, as it's one step in our small trailer to reach the switch by the SeeLevel. A few original owners added a switch in the bath, and Oliver adopted the idea. (Pretty sure Scubarx and dckiefer added the switches early on.) You should able to find a similar weatherresistant switch and boot at NAPA, but if it were me, I'd spend a few dollars more and buy a weatherproof labeled blower rocker switch at a marine supply. I'd be less likely to accidentally turn off the fan. Do the new Olivers still have the little low light that illuminates the floor? If so, I'd borrow that circuit instead. We never use that light, and you'd still be able to run the blower if you turned off the main pump switch, as we do every time we leave the trailer.

  12. We ended up using the manual low fan speed and it definitely helped. Also adjusting the temp up a degree or so from where it was set seemed to make a difference as well.

  14. I'd add that I've generally found that KOA amenities are amongst the best for that type of campground. However, their prices are also generally right up there at the higher end of the local scale. Bill

  15. @Time2Go! that looks like a great solution. I found your drainer on Amazon, for anyone looking. Very nice price, still, compared to Umbra.

  17. We made it across the border! What a royal PITA. We had to find a local source (Rite Aid drug store) for Covid tests, that would do a Canada approved one, and also turn it around promptly, because if it is older than 72 hrs when you show up at the border, they will turn you back. We wanted to wait a day or two at least to cross, we knew it would be a zoo the first day (Monday). Tested on Sunday noon, we had to prep completely for “a trip”, either to Canada if negative, or to Montana if positive. We were all packed up and got the good results Tuesday evening. So I ditched my firearms (I decided trying to cross with an approved long gun would be adding fuel to a fire) and Wednesday morning we booked north two hours to the nearest border crossing, getting there an hour before our 72 hour period expired 😳. The agent questioned us meticulously for a full twenty minutes, scrutinized our vaccination and covid info, asked all the “do you have anything to declare” stuff, and then said have a nice trip, adding that as foreign nationals we were being allowed to enter as a courtesy, and were required to mask up in all public spaces, regardless of the local policies, and we could incur a big fine if we were caught maskless. We also had to fill in info at ArriveCAN, upload documents and provide a quarantine plan, in case they did a surprise Covid test and we had to self isolate. That was tricky, we decided that reserving a commercial spot and using that address would probably get us by that hurdle, and it did. We went as far as Nakusp Municipal CG, a delightful resort townlet in a stunning alpine setting in SE BC. Unfortunately the wildfire smoke was horrible, with ash literally raining down at times. Visibility varied from merely bad to less than half a mile. Our window smoke filters worked most excellently, combined with a floor HEPA filter. None of the locals wore masks, not even for the smoke. Maybe they are used to it? We spent two nights there, recuperating, then went 330 miles NW to try to escape the worst smoke and the building “heat dome”, which is crippling. We found an ex-KOA CG, with full hookups, so we can run the AC and empty and refill tanks. The owner was ecstatic, we were the first Americans to stop by since March 2020. He gave us a 10% discount, just for that, and he wouldn’t stop talking. We are headed up to Prince Rupert and probably White Horse YT, we have four weeks to explore, at the end of that time we have settle down near the southern border, near an urban area, get MORE Covid testing for the US station, then cross when we get negative results. Or quarantine if they are positive. Kind of like Border Russian Roulette. We decided to not attempt Alaska since that would double the number of tests we would have to take… and pass. It is cool being among the first Americans to visit, we are getting a lot of interested remarks and double takes on the WA license, plates, and at our very first rest break somebody collared my wife to ask about the “cool rig”. I guess Ollies are still pretty darn rare here. I will be pretty much incommunicado for weeks, If I can, I will try to give a few updates in a new thread, but cell coverage will be nil the further north we get from the mid-point, about Prince George. 18. The settings inside the inverter are dependent on the type of batteries, number of batteries, incoming AC power, and how it is used. Below is a link to the Xantrex Inverter Settings article for best setup. You may find that some settings require a change as not everyone uses their camper in the same way but we have reviewed these settings and set them based on majority rule and least amount of callbacks for issues. You may have to change some of the settings based on your current location, current shore power connection, or if you make a change to your battery bank. https://support.olivertraveltrailers.com/portal/en/kb/articles/xantrex-inverter-settings If you need assistance changing your settings please contact the Oliver service department. If you are able to download the Xantrex App and Bluetooth connect to the inverter remote it is much easier to change the settings. How to connect via Bluetooth is included in the article link above.

  19. Not sure if this will help your problem? My Ac would cycle often if it had been a hot day. I found when you first start your Ac open all you cabinet doors your pantry, closet and the bathroom door. A lot of heat gets trapped in those areas. Once all that radiated heat is removed the interior remains cooler. And the Ac unit didn’t cycle as often. In stead of every 5 mins it was 20-30 minutes. Worth a try.

  20. This is a LOCKED thread. I wanted to put all my links in one spot so that they are easy for folks to find. Search remains a real problem with this forum! This thread does not allow comments. If you have questions, find a dead link or just want to talk, you can comment on the appropriate thread, or start a new thread or just Message me. I will add to this page as I start new threads, so hopefully it will continue to be a good up-to-date reference. NEWEST POSTS ARE AT THE TOP. I am not going to bother to alphabetize them, LOL.
