  1. Ralph, We recently ran into the same issue while out at the beach in +95F temps. We use a fan inside the frig for circulation but we likely had a little too much food inside. We also have screens installed, top and bottom. We could not extend the awning to provide some shade due to high winds. We ended up using a little 120v fan sitting on a little table blowing into the base of the unit with both lower and upper covers off. This helped a lot. The stock internal fan was working - just not enough heat exchange going on. A quick online search reveals ammonia cycle refrigeration is challenged in +90F temps. Lots of ideas for extra fan kits to help out. We opted to try our own tapping into the frigs 12V power and using a normally open 30C temperature sensor switch. Temp mounted on aluminum bar with lots of snap-lock strips (not sure how the adhesive on these 3M strips will hold up in the heat). We be testing soon to see how it works.

  2. That is an interesting idea, but I would not count on it. It would mean extending the trailer frame and the upper and lower flat sheets, and that would be expensive if it were done to every unit made. Structural aluminum, especially the great big 2x5” rectangular beams, is very expensive. I wonder what percentage of sales includes a bike rack…. Maybe 10%? I personally would not want the frame to go back any further, it can already drag, and that would make the “departure angle” even worse. You can always remove the cover completely and store it if you are worried about scarring the gel coat while loading a bike. But that requires relocating the license plate stuff to over the left lights (where it actually should go). I really don’t know why they chose to position it right in the center …. ? 3. Hello all, I started a new series of YouTube videos all about products, storage solutions and optimizing space for the Oliver, as well as a tour of my Oliver/decor. I have tons of great tips/products to share and really enjoy the challenge of organizing small spaces. My previous camper was a 16ft Airstream Nest so I’ve learned quite a bit about optimizing space and functional organization. I really hope to grow my channel for Oliver users since there are so few organization videos specifically for an Oliver. I’am not affiliate with any business, I do not get paid for links shares. It’s just me sharing ideas and products I love that work well in the Oliver. Please like and subscribe and I hope you enjoy the videos. Here are the links to the videos thus far.

  5. There is this Yakima Stage Two 1.25" that is approved for RV, not sure it's approved for travel trailers. I am not using this one myself. I'm probably going to swap out the 1.25" hitch to 2" because my TV has 2" receiver and it would be cheaper if I can use the bike rack on both TV and the Oliver. 6. I very seldom make posts other than to individuals on the forum but I thought this was worth passing along today. We picked up hull 836 in June of 2021 and we have logged 10,400 miles on her to date. Yesterday I had the wheel bearings re-packed for the first time which I believe is well within the recommended timing for doing so. If I remember correctly the interval for doing this work is one year or 12,000 miles? I was very surprised to find that the bearings were nearly dry of grease. The service location and I could find no visible damage to the bearings or axle shafts but if I had not done this preventive maintenance now I doubt I would have survived a longer trip without finding myself stranded on the side of the road somewhere. I have an obsession while traveling at every stop walking around the trailer and putting my hands on the wheel drums to check if any are warm. Doing this I had consistently found one of the drums to be hotter than all the rest. I had thought that perhaps one of the brake pads had been hanging up a bit so I specifically asked my service folks to check that while they had the wheels off to re-pack the bearings. There was no issue found with the brakes but that particular bearing was the driest of the four and that is likely what was producing the heat. I will probably drop a note to Jason on this at Oliver in case there may be some systemic problem with the Dexter axle supply. Not sure if Oliver packs the bearings or they just come in from Dexter pre-packed. At any rate I would encourage all to get your bearings checked and repacked sooner than later if you were in last summers crop of new trailers. Mike

  7. FYI, I just took these pics showing pedal clearance with the handlebar resting on the rear window glass. This is a custom rack that is not elevated like many “plug-in” types. John Davies Spokane WA

  8. Kudos to Panther RV. They responded promptly to my query with a link to the correct part, and I have placed an order.

  10. I believe this is the parts explosion for your awning https://youngfartsrvparts.com/pages/dometic-9500e-power-case-awning-12v-product-id-201-parts-list?_pos=1&_sid=cbd8213ae&_ss=r And, a portion of the parts is below. Rh or lh is as you face the awning (if i remember correctly.. verify!)

  11. This is a great point, not only is it not a good idea, it is very bad. A used race with a new bearing will probably cause failure in a short time because the used one has some wear, even if it isn’t visible... New Timkens are sold as matched sets, meaning the two parts were machined for a (nearly) perfect fit. Cheap poor quality no-name ones, especially counterfeits, most likely were not, even if they come packed in the same box or blister pack. It is definitely a buyer beware situation. Don’t be a cheapskate if you tow a lot of miles, and never be one if you tow in really remote locations. Also, keep the removed bearings separated, keep track of where they came from so you don’t accidentally install one into the the wrong wheel! That actually means you installed two wrong ones, with two possible failures! I put a blue paper shop towel on the ground at the axle and put the drum and the removed bearings on it, then I take the parts to my bench to clean, lube or replace one set at a time. That greatly reduces the chance that you will have a “senior moment”. But that can still happen, I recently drove in my last inner seal backwards. 😳 I caught my mistake right away but I had to drive to a bearing store for a replacement, and to buy a spare… John Davies Spokane WA

  12. These had 13K miles on them, the bearing cups/races looked fine. RB, Not certain if you replaced the bearings AND the bearing races. I do hope you replaced both the race and bearing. Just replacing the bearing is not a good idea. Steve.

  13. We use the Thule bike rack, Really like it. Has a removable adapter 2” to 1-1/4” fits close to the hitch to help eliminate the cantilevered force on the hitch witch is only rated for 150# weight and a 24” length. We load the bikes on the two closest mounts to stay as close to the 24” as possible. Its would be nice if Oliver redesigned the rear bumper and storage area to add a extra 7” to allow for the bike rack and bumper to line up to keep the lines looking good and help protect the top of the spare tire cover with the bumper. Safe travels from Hull 901 in MD.

  14. Hi, Mary, and welcome to the forum. Could you tell us the year, model, and hull # of your trailer, please. Oliver has used two different shade manufacturers, I believe. What's wrong with your shades?

I received a complete set of replacements and they were just as bad as the original set.

  16. Hello! This week I sold my 2021 Lance 2075 and ordered an Oliver Legacy Elite II. Having previously owned a Casita, I know it's hard to beat the quality and longevity of a molded fiberglass trailer. I toyed with ordering an Escape 5.0, but in the end, the Oliver's 4 seasons capabilities and strong solar/lithium options won out. I truly hope Olivers are generally as trouble-free and of superior quality as the company's reputation suggests. Anticipated delivery: January 2, 2023.

  18. UPDATE: OTT connected me to Dexter and Dexter was excellent to work with. The problem was the NevrLube spindle washers. A batch of them were not heat treated properly and were brittle, which can lead to total bearing failure and wheel loss. Dexter overnighted new washers to me and I found a mobile tech to come out today (http://certifiedonsiterv.com/ if you need service in central CT). Eric, the tech, was excellent and made quick work of the repair. (Our washers looked fine. No damage done.) Ready for the next trip! 😃

  19. Since Tundras are being discussed, I thought I’d put my two centavos in. We have a 2008 with the 5.7l engine and tow package. I got it to pull a boat which probably weighed 8000 pounds or so including trailer. The boat was wider and longer then the Ollie II. The truck never cracked a sweat though I didn’t enjoy pulling something that big, hopping curbs in filling stations, etc. With our current trailer - Casita 17, I can almost forget its back there. We have hull 1227 coming in August and I intend to start out with the Tundra. I’ve owned Fords, Chevies, and Dodge pickup/service trucks. The Tundra has been, hands down, the most reliable and comfortable truck that I’ve owned. We do spend a lot of time out here in the West with mountain passes, etc. and we are getting the Anderson sway hitch. I am a cautious driver and go slow. That being said if the truck doesn’t seem to be a good fit, we’ll do something different but I hope to get a few more years out of it 🙂. After all I’m 68 and the boss hasn’t traded me in, yet.

  20. It does reduce payload, but it's really nice to be able to look ahead for cheaper gas. And, stay on the road longer between gas stops.

  21. I always describe pulling a trailer as moving a 6.0 earthquake through a Cat 1 hurricane. Screws and nuts will loosen over time. You could spend days trying to check them all. Usually I just fix things if they break, hopefully ending up with a better fix than original. There is one item I encourage everyone to check now. IF you trailer has an additional electrical port (for a generator hookup) you will have a transfer switch located underneath the left dinette seat. Unplug the trailer from power, take the top off the transfer switch box and check every screw in the terminal block. If a screw becomes loose, the resistance in that wire goes up and the result will be, at the least, a cooked wire and terminal block. Or it will catch fire a burn the trailer (and possibly any occupants) up. I repaired this problem on a trailer at the rally and it was very nearly at the point of combustion.
