  1. I saw this on Facebook this morning, and thought I'd share for any of you who plan to be in the Tampa area in January, 2023. Oliver won't be at the RV Supershow, but they will be in nearby Brandon that week, 17th through 22nd, showing the 2023 twin bed Legacy II, and the Elite. You can see details and make an appointment at this link. https://olivertraveltrailers.com/events/tampa-florida-rv-show/ 1832 Chapman Lake is about 8 miles from the show, and about 3 miles from the Tampa Bass Pro Shop. 😄

  4. Thank you Bugeyedriver. I found online suppliers require purchase of 4-6 batteries to avoid $360 shipping charges, or they were sold out of the ones I need. I found a very local place that has several pallets full of the Lifelines that I’m replacing at about $70 less per battery than the online places. picking them up tomorrow. Duane

  5. Probably, possibly, said she (I) who is the wife of an engineer. And was spitting liquids laughing, as she read your post. We spend much of our planning time sorting down from most complicated to simplest. I think it's part of the engineering and brilliance chromosome.... Years ago, I had a cartoon on my wall in my office. Tire swing requested by owner, then as designed by engineer, etc. Something like this, but not quite. When we sold my building, the cartoon disappeared. Wish I still had it. 40+ years as engineer assistant apprentice, still laughing and enjoying our life. Sorry for the thread drift. Not for nothing, but I've found that life works best when we can laugh at our own quirks and foibles. Happy camping.

  6. I think it is insufficient to pull Ollie. LOL PS: Great safety idea of tennis balls on your marker poles. PSS: Equally off-topic, we're having a rough winter here in Hawaii as well.

  7. We love our 6" topper over the stock Ollie mattress. Got the 6" narrow twin and cut the 15" radius with a bread cutting knife. Saved a TON of $$$$. Very comfy for sure. GJ

  9. I went out this morning to scrape off a dusting of new snow…… what did I find? Hmmmm. Not your normal vehicle, skinny tires, narrow track, and the driver goes in at out over the right front tire. https://japancardirect.com/blog/what-is-the-best-kei-truck-to-export-from-japan-part-4/ Sure enough, there was a package on the porch. 11. Picked up our trailer in September and we are throughly enjoying the whole experience. People, places, and learning about RV living. We are heading to Arizona this January and decided to do the Quartzide experience. Saw a Mike and Carol post about Dome Rock area camping. Wondering if Oliver owners get together at a certain spot?

  12. @Steve and Deb ok, sounds good. We are stopping by the Oliver plant on Friday. Let me know if there is anything you might need me to measure on the 2023 model. We will be measuring and taking pictures. BL

  13. There a little dealer in the next town that imports and sells those little Japanese trucks. They are very cute, and I imagine they get good mileage. Apparently, some states are outlawing them for road use now, though. (Vermont, I think.)

  14. Thanks, I remember VIVIDLY an old black and white TV safety commercial circa 1960, a little girl is cutting out paper dolls, seen from her own viewpoint, she gets up with her pointy scissors and runs to greet daddy, and falls. The screen goes black. Very haunting, that is why I think, what if somebody tripped onto that pole. But the bottom line it is so I can see the poles more easily when backing into the garage and when running the snow thrower in poor visibility…. which is why they have stripes painted on them. 15. I'd be willing to bet that Matt Duncan will be there. Even if you already have your Ollie, you might want to stop by and introduce yourself to Matt - he is a great guy at Oliver to know. However, DO NOT agree to play golf with him unless you are very good at that game.😄 Bill

  16. Thanks John, but we are going to go with the coil spring option from The Original Mattress Factory. I just need to figure the corner configuration. I appreciate the input, though.

  17. When I was 6, I saw my first Air Stream (AS). I asked Daddy, "Is that a space ship?". He replied with pride it's an American made Air Stream". I always wanted one and was going to buy a 26 footer in 2018. Until I saw a 26' AS coming out of central Texas with extreme hail damage. The owner said it would cost his insurance $48K to fix. I decided I needed something more durable. Hence our 2018 OE2. I can't even imagine what a $200K AS insurance policy will run a new owner. It was a sad day when AS went to paper thin Aluminum.

  19. AGM batteries are readily available from numerous sources, stores or on-line. When purchasing your batteries, look for the most Amp Hours reserve that will fit within your battery compartment. I've found that when you go above 100 or 110 Amp hours, the batteries become too large or heavy to be practical. Check available reviews and warranty. When I have had 12V issues and discovered one battery has deteriorated significantly and the other is taking up the slack, I have always replaced both batteries at the same time, figuring the only good battery might be reaching its useful life as well. Measure the dimensions of your battery compartment. My 2008 Elite's compartment works well with Group 27 batteries.

  20. I don't believe this was a hijack so much as a lack of understanding of the problem originally presented. Complicated issues sometime take a lot of sorting through to determine what might be actually going on and it's easy to get sidetracked by focusing on specific wording of a symptom. There have been a number of key points presented for both issues. It's easy for me to sift these out and follow the thread(s) because of my understanding of the systems involved, but I was hoping to point out that there are in fact two separate discussions going on and thereby avoid confusion going forward. Bill and Nancy's most recent reply at 1:30 on Thursday must have come in as I was typing my comment but this post does a lot to re-rail things for those that have been trying to follow the thread.

  23. Two years ago my wife and I had a fire in our home office due to the failure of the battery in a laptop while being charged. Thankfully we were only 40 feet away when the individual cells began exploding out the back of the laptop and the fire only consumed about half the office. Buy and know how to use several extinguishers - we have ten of THIS TYPE all around the house and garage along with four LIKE THESE. Certainly they saved our home! Bill

  25. I have received multiple requests to post the inspection checklist I created before we took delivery on our Elite II on November 10, 2022. I have been hesitant to post it publicly, as it was not initially created with public consumption in mind, but only for my private use. My original version contains many personal notes that will not apply to others. I am also concerned that the inspection checklist may create the mis-impression that Oliver makes lots of production mistakes. Please remember that this list was compiled from hundreds of posts on this forum covering more than 5 years, and that only a few posters found multiple issues with their trailers. But, I reflected on the fact that Oliver encourages buyers to conduct careful inspections after delivery, and to bring their trailers back to the Sales and Service Center before leaving Tennessee (like we did) so any issues can be addressed. In the spirit of that commendable policy, I have created an updated and edited version of the document which does not include personal notes, but does include some additional comments in bold font based on what I learned during the delivery process. Thus, a Word version of my edited inspection checklist appears below. It now has fewer items, as I found during our delivery process that some were not relevant to the trailers being manufactured now. Please remember that my thorough inspection after delivery revealed only one production error, of the nearly 100 defects on my original list, in our trailer (a roof leak). It is my impression that Oliver is now paying much better attention to detail than at some times in the past, and that my fears that arose from compiling that long list of defects were mostly unfounded. Please keep in mind that the Oliver team, including Operations Manager Rodney Lomax and Service Manager Jason Essary, did an outstanding job of promptly and effectively responding to the issues we raised when we took delivery. They are great people with outstanding business integrity. It would hurt me deeply if my list were used to cause them grief, after they went the “extra mile” to take such good care of us. SO, PLEASE USE IT RESPECTFULLY AND WISELY. Ralph Pond a/k/a Rivernerd 1010819054_THINGSTOCHECKONOLIVERELITEIIONINITIALINSPECTION.docx

  26. As a born child of the South I found this amusing... A lawyer from the Big City comes to Mississippi to hunt ducks. One day he shoots a duck and it falls in a farmer's field. He figures no one will ever see, so he ignores the "No Trespassing" sign and sneaks over the fence to get the duck. But before he can collect it an old farmer rides up on his mule and asks him what he thinks he's doing. He says he's retrieving his duck. "Well, now," says the farmer. "This is my land and that sign plainly says you may not trespass. I think that is MY duck!" "Listen, you stupid, ugly, inbred hick" says the lawyer, "I'm a rich and famous trial lawyer from the Big City and if you don't let me have that duck I'll sue you and wind up owning everything you have!" "Whoa, now young feller," says the farmer. "We don't go bothering the courts down here over something small like that. We settle it with the Mississippi three kick rule." "What's that?" asks the lawyer. "Well, we take turns kicking each other three times. The man what don't give up, wins." The lawyer thinks the old guy looks pretty feeble and figures he can easily take him. "OK, old timer. You're on. Who gets the first three kicks?" "I do," says the farmer "'cuz it's my land." He gets down from his mule and kicks the lawyer right in the...uh...right there. The lawyer folds up on the ground and with his second kick the farmer removes the lawyer's nose and upper lip. The third kick ruins his right kidney. The lawyer struggles to his feet, barely able to move. "You ready for my turn, you old cretin?" he croaks. "Oh, no need, " says the farmer. "I give up. You can have the duck."

  27. I saw someone recommend those plastic "razors" a couple of months ago and bought one on amazon. It comes with about 100 blades and it was only about $12, WOW, what a great product. I used it to remove the caulking around the access panel on the bathroom vanity and it worked better than anything I've ever used in the past to remove silicone caulk with no worries about damaging the gel coat. I highly recommend it! albert

  29. Well, John, I opted to drill drain holes through the bracket webs as you suggested. See attached pic (sorry, but the Forum software always seems to turn my pics 90 degrees). I went with a 5/16 diameter drill bit. I'm sure that debris will clog the holes from time to time, but I'll just have to keep after them (along with the other 1,000 items that I'm keeping after). I'll let everyone know how/if it works.

  30. Yes! We are shocked. We have noticed nothing peculiar. It is a Bulldog hitch and we upgraded to the new larger size for extra peace of mind. They say the coupler is bent. We are waiting to hear from service again. Service advisor suspected some sort of impact but we have had zero incidents or problems. Hooking up has been a breeze as well. 🤷‍♀️

  31. As the individual cells exploded out the back of the computer they were bouncing off the ceiling and small individual fires were already burning a desk, carpet and papers. Had to unplug the charger first and then hit the fires with the extinguisher. Let's just say that it was "interesting" for a few moments.😵
