Hello Oliver family. After a long wait, Hull 1047 has launched. Our time at the Mothership was well spent. Ryan’s walkthrough was thorough and very helpful. Jason and the crew did an amazing job getting us all set up and ready to go. We took advantage of pickup checklist made by Forum regular Fritz and it was much appreciated. Happy to report we found zero deficiencies. Pre-pickup night was spent at an AirBNB less than a mile from Mothership. Spent first night on site without issue. We are currently camped in southern Indiana east of Bloomington. Temperatures are in the 30’s but Ollie is snug and cozy. She towns beautifully. My biggest learning curve is the brake brandishing process and brake control settings. A work in progress. We will spend a couple of days here in Brown County then back to Northern Michigan. Next planned trip is rally in May but I May have a hard time not getting Saunter out ubefore then.6 points

Update on our SR5 CrewMax 2WD Tundra. One of the features I really like is the electric rear cab (complete) window. Letting the rear window down is a nice feature for fresh air circulation without as much noise as open side windows. The Ollie/Tundra rig is very stable with plenty of power with the 3.5L twin turbo. Some (less than 1%) new Tundra owners have had issues with passenger side turbo actuators, but we have not had any issues with our Tundra. The latest reported Turbo warranty replacement requires removing the passenger side wheel/tire for access to the turbo through the fender well. With 1500 miles on our 2WD Tundra yielded 14MPG in central NC/SC areas towing Ollie at 60 to 65MPH in 8th gear turning 1750 to 1900 RPM. When not towing Ollie getting 22MPG in 10th gear mostly highway driving same region at 65MPH at 1500RPM with over 2000 miles on the Tundra so far. Fuel economy towing Ollie with our 2016 Tundra was 12MPG. I am very easy on the throttle during take off and don't use cruise control while towing. Our Ollie weighs in ready to camp as per CAT scales from 4900 to 4950lbs with empty tanks except for full hot water heater. This Tundra's GVW is 6990 pounds, lower than our 2016 5.7L Tundra's 7100 pound GVW. Tundra's operators manual states a WDH is required for any trailer over 5,000 pounds, since our Ollie weighs in under 5,000 pounds ready to camp, towed Ollie without a WDH and the rig was very stable. Believe 99% of LE2 Ollies weigh in at least 5,000 to 6,000 pounds. We are camping minimalist and reduce gear taken on trips to a minimum. The Tundra's operators manual indicates a sway device is required with trailer weights above 2,000 pounds, so I have an electronic device that activates trailer brakes in a sway event, but honestly the Ollie has such fine towing manners, don't believe we have ever encountered any sway events. The Anderson WDH is also a sway device. Here's CAT scale results of the Tundra/Ollie rig with Ollie's water tanks empty including hot water heater was empty. After following CAT scale results still needed to load 50 pounds of gear in the Tundra and 50 pounds of gear in the front of Ollie before a camping trip in February. The Tundra had two people on board, 30 gallons of fuel, and camping gear loaded, except for what I mentioned earlier in this paragraph. Additional 50lbs of weight in the front of the trailer will put the tongue weight within 9% to 11% of Tundra's recommended trailer tongue weight. With Ollie connected. Our Tundra does not have OEM airbags or any rear suspension enhancement installed, yet. OEM airbags would be a nice option to have.3 points

Welcome to the Family as a fully fledged member. By the time you get down to the Owner's Rally you will be a pro and looking for ideas on even more things that you can do to her. Hope to see you there! Bill3 points

For anyone getting replacement lug nuts, make sure you get the proper type for aluminum wheels. The correct ones are the “bulge acorn” type which have a larger conical seating surface for use on aluminum wheels. Aluminum wheels are softer than steel wheels and require the larger seating surface. The ones installed by Oliver are the correct bulge acorn type so get the same style. “Acorn” type have a smaller conical face and are for steel wheels.3 points

John, Our payload is 1400 pounds. I used to reach 7100lb GVW with our 2016 Tundra with almost everything I wanted to carry, but this new Tundra will carry everything I want to carry being a couple hundred pounds under GVW with Ollie attached. I don't weigh individual items, but make sure we don't exceed front & rear axle maximums & TV gross weight. Initially Toyota dealers removed the cab to replace the passenger side turbo, but recently they started removing the passenger side front wheel to access the turbo through the wheel well. Not aware of driver side turbo actuator replacements, so can't address driver's side access to turbo. We purchased this base SR5 Tundra for Ollie towing duty. The CrewMax cab cloth interior is nice, the front seats are not bad, but not as comfortable as our 2016 SR5 Tundra's front seats. LED lights overhead in the cab work for me, but some folks want brighter interior lights. Understand the higher trim level front seats are very comfortable. Purchased a Garmin 780 RV GPS and use it in the center console behind the smart phone cradle. Around town we get 19MPG and 22MPG on the highway. If I'm at a stop sign with high speed traffic approaching, the new Tundra's acceleration makes it easy to pull out putting distance between me and the oncoming traffic quickly. It's quick when needed. We have never owned an SUV, but if we purchased one it would be the 2023 Sequoia on the new Tundra platform. Place the gear shifter from D to sport mode to see the complete GPS screen when placed in this location:2 points

I was able to find a good mobile guy to fix it. I do have the Easy Start. The repair guy was up there measuring startup currents to the AC and was explaining how it improves the life of the system by greatly reducing the inrush current. So it may be a good thing even if not purchased solely to get the system to run on batteries. Basically the same story on a soft start system that I have always gotten from home A/C repairmen.2 points

The bearings I received from Summit have the QR code as in the right photo and also have raised 'Timken' black print below it. I scanned the bar code from the box on the WBA app. Not sure what else I'm supposed to do besides wait for a reply from Timken as I don't know what 'suspicious' is supposed to mean. The app is fairly basic and not really informative. Summit Racing has been highly recommended by forum members here and is supposed to be an authorized distributor. Just wanted to give others a heads up if these aren't authentic.2 points

I used fitted foam rubber corner guards that they make to protect toddlers from bashing into sharp corners of furniture. They have "peel and stick" adhesive that was easy to remove when I took the cover off last week. They work great on the corners of the solar panels. I am sure that they would also do well on the sharp corners of the rear bumper. I had some rubber gasket material laying about that I used in conjunction with gorilla tape on the bumper because I could only find four corner guards at my hardware store.2 points

You do realize that this huge black umbilical cord was the connection from "Hal's" eye (TV) to his hidden brain laying elsewhere between the hulls so that we mere mortals can't get to it? 🤔 Bill1 point
-
Absolutely! I've been using the ones from the bumper for 6 years now. However, the original pool noodles I used on the solar panels gave out after about 4 years. So, I replaced them with a set of larger diameter ones I was able to purchase at the end of the pool season last year for less than 1/2 price. Bill1 point

Interesting visual! I'm well aware of condensation as I had a fiberglass Casita for ten years with single pane windows.. Double hull is a whole nuther animal!!1 point
-
If it’s below freezing outside that space between the inner and outer hull can get pretty cold, even with the furnace going, and most of the moisture/condensation was probably coming from you breathing while working in that area where the wiring is. Someone posted this previously either here on the forum or on the Oliver Facebook page. People exhale quite a bit of moisture.1 point

That is good news. Do you know if the driver side turbo is able to be accessed the same way, does the steering column have to come out too? What is your payload? How do you like the interior? Thanks for the report, I am quite interested in the new Sequoia as a LC200 replacement if mine burns up or gets stolen, I am trying to accept the location of the turbos, which isn’t at all great, but if you can get to them without removing the cab or entire body, then that is good news. I bought my Timken bearings through an authorized Timken distributor listed on the Timken website. And when I received them I confirmed with the WBA bearing app and they come up as good. As an experiment though I did buy a “Timken” bearing on Amazon (at a ridiculously low price of like $12) just to see what counterfeit bearings are like. A lot of fakes out there. The Amazon ones did show as counterfeit (no surprise for $12 😂) when scanned with the WBA app. Here’s a pic. Counterfeit on the left, legitimate on the right. The fakes are a pretty good looking copy, with most of the packaging details copied, but the counterfeit ones seem to always be missing the QR code on the box. Here’s the authorized Timken distributor I bought the genuine bearings from. www.applied.com1 point

Congratulations and great picture! Glad to hear it went well. You should be able to find a few weekends before the rally to get out for some relaxed camping. See you at the rally! Mike1 point

Turns out it was a loose wire underneath the A/C shroud on the roof. In hindsight, I should have listened carefully for the deeper sound of the compressor kicking in. another way would have been to look at the load on Xantrex app. With just fan running it shows about 400W, and with the compressor running it jumps to 1100-1200W.1 point

Try the coconut coir bricks when you get a chance. We’ve found them better than the peat moss. Easier to travel with too. Good Luck.1 point

There's something "funny" here but I just can't seem to put my finger on it!🙃 The folks with a Nature's Head don't want things too wet while the folks with the standard toilet don't want things too dry?1 point

I suspect much depends on how much time you spend in the Ollie. For us, it’s just a few weeks a year. We are older and can manage without cuddling for the days between trips . At our ages, it’s more important to be able to stumble out of bed in the middle of the night to use the restroom. It’s also more important to be able to easily access the attic storage over the beds. Different strokes for different folks. More importantly, enjoy your travels! ❤️1 point

I have not removed my cover yet but I will within the next couple of weeks and will report any wear issues to the Oliver. I don't expect any primarily because of how light the cover is. When it was incredibly windy the cover would move slightly despite being cinched down pretty well. Even with this, I'm not anticipating any wear to the trailer. Can't over emphasize the need for pool noodles (or something similar) for the sharp corners like the solar. The cover will wear in those spots without them.1 point

Purchased an iPhone and replaced the existing battery indicator and shunt with a 500A Victron Bluetooth Smart Shunt on Ollie yesterday. This system works great for our needs: https://www.victronenergy.com/battery-monitors/smart-battery-shunt#pd-nav-video Extra wire/cable needed to roll out battery tray.1 point

Just arrived back in Maine after leaving Nashville on Sunday. The Ollie is back in its barn! 4 months and 12,000 plus miles without incident. No issues with the Ollie in temperature ranging from the mid 90s to 5 degrees. Elevation from sea level to over 8000 feet. We saw and experienced a lot. We have achieved what we set out to do when we purchased the trailer. Our plans were fulfilled. We will begin preparing for summer on the coast of Maine. We will be making some changes so we will be following our original plan and listing the Olliver for sale very soon. This was our plan all along after this trip. We will be including some extras that will be helpful and cost saving for a new owner. Oliver provided full service on the trailer in December. Keep your eyes peeled in the classifieds on this forum and on the Olliver Facebook forum. We expect to be listing the trailer soon!!! Thanks1 point

Our 2019 model was ready. We had a cooler of food ready to transfer and cooked dinner in our Ollie that evening. We made chili in the little 3 quart Instant Pot 😋1 point

I too carry an infared temp sensor but it really is no substitute for a TPMS. With regards to jacking up the trailer - against the legal advice of Oliver - I use the onboard jacks for the flat tire sort of thing. However, your comment concerning virtually any jacking of either the trailer or the truck being a very risky task is certainly on the mark. Just one of the reasons that I also have a roadside assistance plan - in the event that I do not feel entirely comfortable changing that tire, I'll simply make a call. Bill1 point
-
So, I just have to ask, what else gets carried to safely jack up the trailer, remove the wheel and brake drum to get to the bearings? On anything but a flat, level concrete surface it can be a very risky task. And that darn wheel/tire is heavy! In hoping to avoid such a circumstance as an on the road repair, I carry an infared tool that I can monitor wheel hub and brake drum temperatures. Failure avoidance is my scheme, even a simple hub/wheel temp test with the bare hand can be helpful preventing an overheated bearing or brake problem.1 point

Yep - me neither. There are very few things that will keep you stranded on the side of the road with an Oliver - but - this is one of them. I sleep better at night knowing that I can get off that "side of the road". Bill1 point

As an inexpensive experiment I purchased “Timken” Set4 & Set17 bearings, and the 473336 seal, all on Amazon. They arrived today. They certainly look like Timken bearings with nice packaging and even have the Timken microprinting hidden in the longitude and latitude lines on the globe logo. But the WBA bearing app scan of the bar codes on the bearing packaging says the bearings are likely counterfeit. The seal checks out as ok. The seal was stocked and shipped by Amazon. The bearings were from a third party supplier. I do have an authorized Timken dealer not far away, so I do plan to get actual Timken bearings to use, but it was a cheap experiment, lesson learned. The two bearing sets were only about $25 total for both. I’ve had a lot of experience with Chinese suppliers in my career, but I am still amazed at the effort they will put into counterfeiting a product.1 point

We are planning to order sheet sets and mattress covers from AB Lifestyles, a specialist in RV Bedding , now including Oliver Elite II. They did a custom Oliver order last year using the the dimensions for the Oliver Elite II twin beds. They now have bedding available online for ordering. Both sheet sets and mattress covers are available for Oliver Elite twin mattresses. They say on the website that each set is a PAIR for both left and right twin beds. The PAIR includes fitted bottom and top sheets for both left and right mattresses, and 2 pillow cases (one for each bed) . https://www.ablifestyles.net/road-ready-rv-sheet-set/ They also have mattress pads for the Oliver Twins. This link is to their plush pad…and they also come bundled in pairs (both left and right mattress shape one package) https://www.ablifestyles.net/products/ultima-plush-mattress-pad-for-campers-rvs.html This link for their waterproof covers…also a PAIR. https://www.ablifestyles.net/keep-a-bed-waterproof-mattress-cover-for-rvs-campers/ Finally, they also are a custom RV mattress company should anyone need to order those as well.1 point
