  1. I see Oliver is now offering Extended Warranties on their travel trailers for trailers that are within a 5 year period from there sale date. First let me say I have never purchased an extender warranty on any thing that I have purchased and have never found a repair within the time period offered by the product warranty to cost more then the extender warranty cost. I'm not going to go into all the pros and cons about extended warranties as each one of us have different thoughts on this and I'm sure they will come out in time on this forum. For many like myself I'm pretty good about diagnosing the repair problem and handling it myself, but for those who don't feel comfortable about doing this the extended warranty may work for you. As you know with extended warranties you may be required to take your trailer to certain dealers for repair and you will also find that all dealers may not want to repair your trailer under the extended warranty repair policy and you may have to pay there repair bill and file the claim yourself and take what your extended warranty company says they would pay for such a claim, thus leaving you to makeup the difference in monies from your own pocket. Just my thoughts on extended warranties, you will have to make that decision for yourself, but know all the facts before you buy. trainman

  2. Update on the APP - I went to try to install it today but was told it is not available to the general public yet. It is only available right now to people that have a Customer Account with the forums software. I think this is for testing. I was told it will SOON be made available to the general public. I did go ahead and fill out the form so I might be able to test it out. I will keep y'all update on this. Thanks

  3. I often spend a lot of time discussing big purchases on this forum. But, it's often the little things that make our days (or nights. ) What's your best purchase, under $20, that you use all the time? I have many, but I will start with a few: Harbor freight flashlight. Used to be free with a coupon, now it's under a dollar. The hook on the front I can hang off my collar. I love these flashlights. Two modes, bright leds. I use them all the time.

  4. We needed a solution for both secure storage and carrying capacity and decided on the Diamondback HD tonneau cover. It’s about as secure as it gets, has front and rear access panels, and carries 1600 lbs (Side x Side, motorcycle, etc). Extensions and loading ramps were part of the package. The setup is simple, and removes/installs easily.

  5. Please take a moment of silence for those Americans we lost and those that still suffer from this horrific attack on our beautiful country. Thank you for all those who serve and have served in protecting our great nation. Our flag flies at half on this day every year. May God continue to Bless the United States of America. 8. Sorry about the rotation. This system works for me. It supports 3 different functions so the content of the Decked system can be changed out in just a few minutes. I’ve had camper shells and tonneau covers but this is far easier for me to use and organize and most importantly, access! The Rotopax jugs aren’t in this picture because the Yakima mounts have been unavailable for months. I can remove the rack in just a few minutes and park a 4 wheeler on top. I have 2 Hobie Outback kayaks that can fit on top of the rack which was a priority while pulling the Oliver. Also, we know that in buying the Oliver, we forfeited taking along the occasional grandchild. IF that becomes an issue, we can buy an overland style tent for the rack without losing storage. Probably what makes this work for me is that I have terrible organization skills! Each drawer holds 200 lbs and everything in them stays dry and secure.

  9. I know you know mitigation measures, John, but I'll put it out here for new campers in our group, who may be more accustomed to urban environments. Decades ago, ticks were pretty much just an annoyance. Now, with diseases carried, we're all more careful. What I do: Long pants. Tucked into hiking socks. Spray clothing (not my skin) with deet, if it's season. Long sleeves. Tuck in your shirt. Stay out of long grass, and shrub when possible. Light colored clothing makes it easier to see the critters. A forester years ago told me khaki color is best. Shower daily. Ticks usually wander awhile before they find a sweet spot. A scrubbing shower will usually dislodge unattached wanderers. Check dogs frequently. Comb them. Medicate ahead if time. They're susceptible to Lyme disease, too. Though not likely, ticks can wander from them, to you. If you do find a tick, remove it carefully, properly, and promptly. You can keep it in a jar or zip lock for analysis later. In my years if camping and hiking, I've had some ticks attach, even being careful. Three on my dogs. Even if you're careful, it can happen. Not to panic. Not every tick is a disease carrier. But, it's best to limit exposure. I probably missed some ideas. Add away. Sherry

  11. Yes on chassis based RVs. With all the sophisticated electronics on today's vehicles, DIY chassis repairs are somewhat limited. We purchased an extended warranty on our Leisure Travel Van, in light of the MB Sprinter diesel chassis. In 4 years (2 years past coach warranty and 1 year past MB warranty, we did not use the extended coverage. However, with the warranty being transferable, it made our van more attractive to potential buyers. We sold it, before it was ever advertised and the warranty was a big factor (aside from pristine condition, low miles, and high demand based on brand and Covid conditions). We also purchased a 5-yr extended warranty on a 5th-wheel, solely because we were new to RVs and not confident about DIY repairs nor the quality of mass produced units, and only a 1 year factory warranty (Keystone) We did not need this warranty either. However, when we sold the trailer three years later, the purchase price was refunded, prorated based on years remaining. So, two questions to ask: 1. Is the warranty transferable if you sell to a private party (ours was not if we sold to a dealer)? 2. Is the warranty refundable if you sell/trade the RV before the warranty expiration? 3. Also, does the coverage include towing or mobile service? This being said, I agree with Trainman that it depends on your ability to make your own repairs. Do you want to pay up front and deal with waiting for pre-approval from the warranty carrier, filing a claim and or requesting reimbursement. We will most likely self-insure, assuming Oliver still offers lifetime support, should problems arise. Many makers of individual components offer extended warranties on their products.

  12. Good post, I agree entirely. I think extended warranties may make sense for car or trucks, where the dealers are skilled and located all over the place - especially for turbo diesels that are likely to have very expensive out-of-warranty problems. For a travel trailer, nope. No way. John Davies Spokane WA

  13. Being a turkey hunter i deal with ticks each year, spring and fall. Spraying down your clothes with permethrin is the most effective way to dealing with them. I also use light Camo coveralls uninsulated and insure that pants are tucked into boots. Also don’t forget about ginger’s“ a mite size bug that burrows under your skin. You can’t kill them by washing your clothes . They say the dryer will. And also if you do find a tick on you remove it right away and watch for signs of a bullseye rash that may appear around The site. Also see your doctor if you start feeling poorly Aches fever, etc.

  14. With the help of Jason was able to acquire a new propane and co detector, the latest models were manufactured in 2018 so you are two years behind the curve from the get go. It is my understanding that you can expect around 5 years of service, even though the paperwork that came from the unit stated 7 years. As with most RV parts qualify in manufacturing is poor. Because of that I have installed quick disconnects to our unit. I figure I will be changing it out in a few years.

  15. Permethrin spray used according to the label has been effective for me for the last 30 years. I’m in the field every week of the year 1 to 4 days. This means spraying your clothing and boots before you put them on and letting them dry. I’m diligent in the spring (starting Feb 1st) and summer and I think there is enough residual to carry it to the fall. For skin application, I’ve had good results from picaridin sprays. I doubt it’s any better for you than deet, just less researched! As Sherry mentioned, a single bite does not mean you have one of the many diseases they carry, but ALWAYS look EVERYWHERE after being in their environment. I believe most of the diseases have much higher transmission rates after 24 hours.

  19. Thanks, John. I don't think many of us are fond of insects, as necessary as they are to our environment. All the measures I mentioned, except deet, which I apply only when necessary, are great for mosquitoes, chiggers, and sunburn, etc., as well. Today's technical clothing makes it much easier to protect and cover up, without keeling over from heat exhaustion . I know my photo wouldn't win any fashion awards, but that's the least of my concerns in the woods. 🙂

  20. Yes. The back cushions are 6” thick and fit nicely between the mattresses on plywood pieces I made which results in a larger bed. I did a thread on it, I think a search for “platform” or twin bed conversion will work. We haven’t had any grandkids with us yet, but it is a nice change when we’re tired of twin beds. Mike

  22. We also ordered a 2020 ARE Z topper or camper shell depending on where you are from for our 2020 Ford Tremor. We will have more room than we will need to pack our gear. Taking delivery in mid to end of Oct. I have owned several ARE toppers over the years. They make a fine topper with hidden rear door hinges. The fit and finish is absolutely top shelf in my experience. -Patriot

  23. Sold our 1/2 Ton short bed with an ARE bed cap. Bought a Duramax standard bed. Ordered an ARE bed cap for standard bed but it had a long lead time. In the meantime we used 3 Contico tool boxes for storage. Really worked well. I did use a cable to lock the big cooler to the truck. Picture taken on the Washington Island Ferry.
