  1. Today is a gorgeous 76 degree Western North Carolina day. And a really good cool, breezy day to install this new gen security mount - https://fittingdesignsco.com/products/generator-lock-security-low-profile-mount-honda-generator-mount-predator-generator-mount-camping-travel-mount-truck-mount Here are a few install photos. I measured and cut a piece of 3/4” thick rubber horse stall mat to serve as an additional vibration isolator. The install was straightforward using all stainless fasteners. Due to the length of the 3200i and the design of the security tray, this was the only installation configuration I was happy with. Overall, I am really pleased with how it turned out. This is the tray with the puck lock, which is bolted to the bottom of the generator. When you unlock the puck, the tray lifts out of the generator basket. The basket in the next photo is the basket that receives the tray and then the tray is locked into place with the puck lock. Do to the length of the 3200i and security tray it required a hole to be drilled to allow full key access to the puck lock. (Warning do not loose your keys!!!!) I still need to finish sand off the fresh edges of the key hole. I have ordered a custom made heavy duty cover with our Hull # on it for the 3200i from www.coversandall.com. This should arrive in a week or so. Presently Honda does not sell a cover for the 3200i. This custom cover will be much more robust than the Honda light weight covers. This is where the gen will live. Patriot🇺🇸

  3. We have Rock Tamers on our 2011 Tundra. I had contemplated installing 3M film or Rhino on the nose of the Ollie before our trip to Alaska. Decided we could do Rhino afterwards if we ended up with rock chips. Given the Alaska portland cement that sticks to everything (those of you that have driven the Alcan and other roads know what I'm talking about) - we didn't see the chips that were happening until we got home and cleaned up the Ollie. The Rock Tamers didn't quite do the job. The rock chips aren't terrible and if they bother me a lot, we will do the Rhino. If you will be bothered by rock chips and you are driving a bunch of unimproved roads - you will need something additional besides Rock Tamers.

  6. The Dometic freshjet has awesome reviews in European and Australian markets. Your post is the first I've heard of it in the USA. I'm extremely happy to see it stateside, finally. (I posted a lament years ago that we in the US are the last to get the best in ac). Builtin soft start. Lightweight. Heat/cool/dehumidifier. https://www.diycaravans.com.au/shop/ac-unit-dometic-freshjet-2200/

  7. When our Elite II was ordered, we, too, wanted a larger monitor. Anita Johnston advised that a larger monitor was not an option. So, we decided to go with the factory-installed backup camera, but reserve the option of upgrading to a larger monitor later. Now that we have "lived with" the 4" monitor that comes with the backup camera system Oliver installs since last November, we are happy with it. It provides a clear view of the area immediately behind the trailer. Yet it occupies less dash space, and causes less visual obstruction of the area in front of the tow vehicle, than a larger monitor. We feel no need to upgrade to a larger monitor.

  8. We also chose Rockstar mudflaps for our 2019 Tundra. We like that the assembly covers the full width of the truck. On our Tundra, the Rockstar is mounted inboard of the bumper, placing it closer to the rear wheels. See attached photo. No visible chips yet on Hull #1291.

  9. I decided to get the Rock Star. I chose the full width version that closes most of the gap in the middle. I like the way it looks with the truck, it's solid and easy to pull off when I'm home. At the time I was shopping... they all seemed to be in the same price point. After a lot of gravel roads... still not a nick anywhere on our Oliver.

  10. I took my 2022 EII trailer in to have my loud Dometric exchanged for the Houghton/RecPro. And the tech told me he just finished a training on the new Dometc Fresh Jet and it is supposed to be the quietest AC on the market. it would be an easier retrofit, and when I look it up on Amazon, it says the sound level is 58 dB. That is lower than Houghton, I think. They are backed up for a month so I won’t get it done right away and I’m wondering if anyone else has researched this. I welcome everyone’s feedback.

  11. I wonder if the the Dometic Fresh Jet will retro fit and use the existing condensate drains like the Truma Aventa? Patriot🇺🇸

  12. That's indeed a beauty. Have you spoken with the owners? I'd love to hear the story of their retrofits/restoration. Years ago, at a Walmart in Ontario, we met folks towing a little Boler with a VW bug. Moved on to a Boler rally in Quebec. What some ingenious owners have done with vintage trailers (and tow vehicles) is truly amazing, and labors of love. I had two faves-- a Cameron towing a boler, both blue with a matching racing stripe. And, a pink 40s pickup towing a pink Boler. I'll see if I can find photos.

  16. the tech I am working with just sent me this for pricing: Hello this will be a direct fit no need to retro fit anything. Dometic Freshjet 3 Series, Rooftop RV Air Conditioner 13500 BTU, White. with shipping cost $1027.58 + tax I don't know what labor will be, but because they are Dometic servicers, I am hoping it won't be more than 2 hours time. I can keep you posted, as this seems like the way to go for me. I live in CA and travelling to TN for the Truma is not an option. Plus this is MUCH less expensive and should use my existing thermostat. I don't think the heat pump or remote is available in the states yet. I have asked my tech and also asked if this will match to existing condensation drainage.

Wide open to solar, backed at an angle we can see the surf from the right rear and back windows. And the Verizon signal is better too. We decided to lengthen our stay through the holiday weekend, then we are off to Cape Disappointment SP in WA. John Davies Spokane WA

  21. This thread will make a good informative collection of Tundra information. After reading about catalytic convertor theft, installed a Talon's Garage Powder Coated carbon steel Cat Shield earlier this month weighing in at 38.6 pounds. Used a Craftsman ATV jack to position the Shield making it easy to install the tamper proof bolts. Will weigh the Tundra/Ollie Rig again to keep up to date rig weights.

  22. This is a preliminary CAT Scale weigh-out I got a week or so ago - but the configuration isn't exactly what I want for a baseline weight because I had about 30 gallons of fresh water onboard (6 gallon water heater tank full/30# LPG tanks full). Our Tundra is a 2WD/Crew/Short bed, BakFlip Topper. The 5920 value is Tundra weight with OTT attached, 11220 value is total rig weight... We're planning to get an accurate baseline weight later this week and using a dedicated tongue weight scale to get a direct value...FYI

  24. 2018 Tundra SR longbed doublecab 4wd. ARE topper and firestone airbags. 1450 lbs payload Average 12 mpg towing E2. I also have a 2003 Dodge crewcab 3500 4wd SRW that I tow with at least once a year (16-17 mpg towing). I prefer towing with the Tundra even though I have less payload. Were I to carry more gear in the truck bed I would use the Dodge more or replace the Tundra with a 3/4 ton.

  25. Had rear air bags on our 2016 Tundra and really liked them, easy to install, too. Also had Diamondback bed cover, like that better than the Toyota hard bed cover on our 2022 Tundra. Installed Timbren rear suspension enhancement on our 2022 Tundra, they work fine with a little sag. With the Timbren system installed and if the Tundra is empty, there is air gap between the Timbren blocks and rear differential giving a smoother ride. If you have one or two hundred pounds in the bed, the Timbren blocks contact the rear differential giving a firmer ride. Fuel economy with the 2016 SR5 5.7L 4X4 was around 12MPG towing Ollie. 2022 Tundra 2WD 3.5L Crew Cab MPG Testing: OEM installed GeoLandar street tires on Tundra. TV tire pressures 40 PSI and Camper’s Cooper tire pressures 50 PSI. Camper's weight between 4900 to 4950 pounds with empty grey, fresh, and black water tanks. Rig weight around 11,020 pounds. Check Rig & TV/Camper weights periodically with CAT scales. Set cruise at 63MPH yielding 61MPH GPS speed. Tow haul mode used with 7th gear. Engine speed was 2150 RPM. During the test while climbing a 5% grade reduced speed to 55MPH and dropped down to 6th gear. One way test from Crossville TN (TN plateau area) to Denver NC yielded 15.8 MPG. Round trip from Crossville TN to Howenwald TN and back to Crossville yielded 15.5 MPG. Found the MPG indicator in our 2022 Tundra to be a few tenths lower than actual MPG. Using a CAT scale found actual load capacity to be over 1500 pounds, higher than the operators manual's 1400 pounds. Weighed after installing side rails, mud flaps, bed mat, Timbren load enhancement system, and Toyota hard bed cover. Toyota was conservative with the load capacity on our Tundra. 27. Today I received the first initial production mount of the new Honda eu3200i security mounting system. This came after weeks of collaboration, exchanging measurements and photos, emails and phones calls with fittingdesignsco@gmail.com. Note: You will need to modify your cargo box to use the key to unlock the puck mount. This will require drilling a hole in the side of the cargo box in order for the key to be inserted to unlock the puck mount. The base plate of the mount will also need to be be bolted down in the cargo box. I will add additional photos of mounting this gen security system when we return home from the rally. The unit pricing is $375.00 plus tax shipped to the lower 48. If interested, please contact the company at 530-913-2271 if you have further questions or wish to place an order. 34. If you are unplugged from shore power and turn on your inverter to use an outlet, does item you plug into the outlet function normally and do the "crickets" start singing then? If not, your inverter is likely fine. I heard nothing in your video except the flipping of the switches. Do your "crickets" sing only momentarily, as the switch is turned on, or do they launch into a full operetta? Where do the "crickets" seem to live? Behind the switches? At the lights which were just turned on? Somewhere in the basement?

  35. True statement! You'll not need to be concerned about reaching your TV's max load capacity with the 1-ton, unless you bring a bike along....

  36. @Wandering Sagebrush Yes I highly recommend towing with the F350, we do and we are very happy with long distance comfort, safety and cargo capacity. No splitting hairs on cargo capacity you can carry like our former 1/2 ton 5.7 liter Tundra. The Tundra served us well, but not our choice for the optimal TV for long distance travel. As for Rock Stoppers we ordered these from www.livelymachine.com. They are well made and work extremely well and don’t sail at highway speeds. All aluminum tubing and stainless hardware and well made in my experience using them. The fit and finish is close to OEM. They are closer to the rear wheels than the other after market options. Just another option. Patriot🇺🇸

  37. Thanks, I will check with Oliver sales to be sure, but I imagine it will be the same size as yours. I have a BuiltRight Dash mount and it sounds like I'll have to cobble something together to mount it there. I don't like double-sided tape or suction cup mounts, personally- I'd rather use something from Ram Mounts- the closest thing might be a small tablet holder that grips around the sides. I wonder if the larger Furrion monitors are compatible with the camera... 🤔

  39. Big Cat: Kindly first add to your signature block your trailer and tow vehicle info. It is kind to do so. I see from your profile you have a 2018 OEII. Same as ours. You have some really nice gear you appear to be adding (Solar, Litho's and 3,000 w inverter). Individually they are easy to replace like for like. But likely you are in an upgrade effort and that changes everything from a hazard perspective, as my above fellow owners have conveyed. If you are in an upgrade mode, I agree with the above posts in that this is not a simple plug and play effort. If you are not experienced, get some help. If you are a technical and can figure it out, then at least document your plan with specifics and post it back. Critical elements are cable sizes, terminal connection process (Solder, Crimp, Both?), fuse protection devices and their protection levels, MFG and model of all components need to be shown if you want real advice on the safety and effectiveness of what you are planning to do. The primary concern for the DC side is that you have a potential in your Litho's to sustain 300 amps each = 1200 amps towards the trailer loads. Instantaneous discharge can be MUCH higher. That mandates your verification that your trailer fuse is a 300 Amp fuse and that your cables are sized as such. Some other considerations: If you don't have a master battery cutoff switch, install one! I recommend the BlueSeas 350 amp model. Wear face shield and have have your fire extinguisher handy when working any electrical. Think through you use of the extra power from a larger 3,000 watt inverter. For example, are you upgrading from the stock 2,000 watt inverter to safely allow you to run A/C off your Litho's? If so, I strongly recommend that you install a separate power transfer switch dedicated for the Air Conditioning load. Otherwise you will ultimately overload the existing switch that is either a 15 or 20 amp 120 Volt rated switch. Just a matter of time before somebody turns on a heavy load (Think hair dryer or microwave) while the AC is running. The 3,000 watt inverter is much larger and heavier than the stock 2,000 watt unit. This requires special techniques for mounting. All of the above extra efforts are well documented in our forum by owners who know what they were doing. So, please be cautious and think of your entire electrical system before making modifications to it. Upgrades are not "just a plug and play" effort. GJ

  41. I have the Rock Tamers. After 4 years they’ve worked well to prevent any rock dings on the front of our Ollie. The standard truck mud flaps just behind the rear wheels don’t stop rocks from being thrown rearward towards the trailer

  42. Shortly after arriving home I noticed our TV in Hull 1373 was mounted at it's lowest point on the arm. When in the up position for travel this maximizes the dynamic of bumps and just any up and down movement. I decided to adjust the TV up the arm as close to the mounting base as possible to reduce the length of this "lever" and hopefully reduce the stress to the TV and the under cabinet mount. You can slide the TV up 2-3 inches and it will still hang vertically without touching the bottom of the cabinet overhead when in the viewing position. I don't know if this will significantly reduce the stress on the mounts but it seemed like a good effort at least.

  43. Hi neighbor! I've got site G-10 for next year. Just maybe I'll get a chance to see more of you two! Unfortunately, a number of long time Rally goers are NOT going to have their "usual" sites next year because they were beaten to the punch by others. This will make finding people a bit more difficult thus making "the list" even more important. My apologies to all those people that I wanted to meet but, somehow, I don't even recall seeing them there. Hopefully next year I'll be a bit more organized and the weather will be a bit better. Bill

  45. @rideandfly - JFTR: We also have a 2022 SR5 Tundra 2WD and our gas consumption is within 5%-7% of what you are reporting in this thread. I'm sure the differences are due to a heavier LE2 than yours and my driving habits. We really like the ride comfort as compared to our previous TV, 2015 RAM Diesel Tradesman CrewCab Long bed. We travel with a 55-lb puppy in the rear seat, plenty of room for him and his travel gear. We carefully watch our front/rear axle weights and travel with minimal camping accessories so as not to exceed the max load capacity. We've logged just north of 20k miles on the Tundra but only about 1,350 with the LE2 having just acquired it in March. We're planning a caravan to Puerto Penasco (during the Oliver Rally) and leaving next week - will post a trip report afterwards, FYI. Thanks for the informative posts regarding your Tundra - we love ours so far, it looks like y'all do as well. Cheers, brother... Safe travels.

  46. When our F250 6.7 is fully loaded and hitched, we weigh between 8,700-9,300 lbs. We have found running our tires (Copper TA3 XLT 275 70 18) at 65LBS gives us good tire wear/ handling with a pleasant ride on paved roads. We "air down" when running long distances off road. We love towing with a big truck and would hard for us to go back to a 1/2 ton. Our truck is not used as a daily driver because it has a turning radius of a bus and beats our brains out without a load. Lots written about choices of tow vehicles throughout this forum. Mostly you will find two camps. One that love a high payload 1/2 ton using a weight distribution hitch and the other are running 3/4 ton+ trucks. It's my option the biggest issue when choosing your TV is to truly understand your payload needs. Unless you travel as a minimalist, many 1/2 trucks will limit your ability to bring all the gear you like to have for your adventures.

  47. Don't leave home with the Ranger towing an LEII. It would be a pretty good tow for an Elite.
    1 point
  48. From my time researching the forum, there are numerous people towing the LE2 with the Ford, Chevy and Dodge 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. I would say they are actually optimum tow vehicles for the LE2. On the other hand you would be running the Ranger at its full capacity all the time and would simply wear it out quickly. You would also be at the trucks limit as far as braking and controlling the trailer in less than optimal conditions. I would chose the Super Duty hands down. It's always better to have a significant margin of safety if at all possible. The F350 will not even know the Ollie is back their. PS - You won't need the weight distribution hitch with the 350 and hitching and unhitching will be a breeze.

  49. No comment on the tow vehicles but I used to own an Equal-I-Zer WTH. I think that you will find that the Andersen WDH is generally easier to work with and is less "dirty". Besides - it is the only WDH that is compatible with the Oliver. Bill

  50. EDIT: It is possible that your fridge cord is not quite long enough to reach the new box, You can open up the bottom fridge access panel (outside the trailer) and see if there is some slack there that you can use to make it a little longer. The cable comes in at the very bottom left corner and attaches to the main circuit board under the plastic cover. If you still don't have enough length, you will have to remove that section and replace it with a longer piece of "house wire". Mine reached, barely. If you do run a new wire, be sure to re-seal the opening, That area should be "propane tight" to prevent a leak from penetrating the hull. John Davies Spokane WA
