  1. That company got off to a rough start. Apparently, the CEO was indicted for fraud a few years ago. Here's a link: https://casetext.com/case/united-states-v-spivak Their initial website was pretty sketchy looking. Today, their 27 footer is just a CAD drawing with no wheels. Be interesting to see if they can hang in for the long run.

  2. I saw several of these overloaded diesel crew cab DRW 4x4 3500 trucks in the SW this past Winter. Many had huge, tall truck bed campers with substantial rear overhang (some with slides on rear and both sides), some even with long stinger hitches, hauling dual axle toy haulers which likely had over 750 lb tongue weight. Saw one with all of the above at Walmart in Deming. The poor truck was squatting and they were not running any type of weight distribution hitch. Must have been like a carnival ride going down the highway. I much prefer the balanced, easy to tow experience of the Ollie for enjoyment of the trip down the highway.

  3. @Rolind Hi Rolind, First congrats on your delivery date and a big welcome to the Oliver forum and family. I think @Ollie-Haus did a fine job answering your questions about drop and shank size. Our TV is a 1 ton 6.7 diesel F350 Tremor and we do not use or see a need for the Andersen WDH. The Ford Super duty trucks are extremely more than capable of handling, towing and most importantly safely stopping a OLEll fully loaded and ready to camp. We really like the diesel engine brake as it works amazing on long down hill mountain passes. It significantly reduces brake wear on our truck and our Oliver trailer brakes. Ford nailed it with the diesel engine brake in my experience. My wife and I find our F350 Tremor extremely comfortable and very safe on long trips. The higher stance from the cockpit provides a really nice view when touring. And please know you are not stirring the pot as you have a really fine more than capable powerful tow vehicle. You don’t want the dog ever wagging the tail, so personally, I think you chose very wisely. Your delivery day will be here before you know it! So may I suggest you hit the books and learn all you can in Oliver University. This is a great resource provided by Oliver and will be a huge benefit to you when your special delivery day arrives. Feel free to PM me if I can assist you in any way with other Tremor towing or Oliver ownership questions. Welcome! Patriot 🇺🇸

  6. Not to open a wider topic, but this is why many of us are so adamant about understanding your vehicle's capacities and capabilities, and staying well within a safety margin. Too many think they can get by, but don't know if they can get by. I just don't like rolling the dice with my life and the lives of those around me. Plus it can be a whole lot of trouble and really ruin your travel plans at the least. In this case the other Geico customers are going to foot the bill for his negligence. Stay safe out there friends.

  7. Looks like this owner lucked out. It was denied as a warranty repair by the factory because he exceeded his payload number, but his insurance (GEICO) covered the broken frame, even though he finally admitted he was over his payload rating for his specific truck. Another example of why you should never trust what the dealership/salesman tells you about the towing/payload ratings. https://www.truckcamperadventure.com/insurance-covers-repair-to-pavels-overloaded-and-broken-ram-3500-frame/

  8. 😃 Congrats y'all! As former Airstreamers too, we really are impressed with both the wiring and plumbing design. We thought we'd miss the extra 6 or 8 inches in width, but not so much after all... Tows better than our 25-footer, for sure and for certain. Should I assume your connected with an Andersen? Enjoy your trip with your new rig! Best, Art PS: maybe consider some WWII Army Air Corps nose art... ha!

  9. M&C: concur - very interesting. I'm liking the two-tone paint option - wonder if Oliver has ever considered offering a 2-tone???

  11. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. 😊 An interesting attempt to copy the The Legacy Elite. They might carve out a tiny market share of the fiberglass TT industry. I just don’t see Cortez Campers as a competitor in the same fit/finish class as an Oliver. Actually not even remotely close. Interestingly enough they are actually listed at the Charleston RV show today for $52,981.00, a slight difference from the below internet price. Patriot🇺🇸 A dealer listed this one in Charleston SC. 😳😳😳

  13. Looks like a nice quality build. I do like the awning / swing-out windows. The refrigerator is a nice size too although I would prefer a true marine style refrigerator that you find in some of the over-land camper builds that have separate slide out refrigerator and freezer sections. Overall I would still choose the Olly given the quality build, components, service support, and styling.

  14. There's a long discussion about it on this thread: (Essentially, the Norcold fridge has a hole in a circuit board that lets air through.)

  15. @Steve Morris Steve, I just found out (check the latest walk-through video just poster by Oliver) that the top hidden compartment was removed but they made the drawer below larger. Also indicating that you don't have the room in there for the compartment. We are already used to it so I am abandoning any thoughts of adding a hidden compartment. Just passing it along. Cheers, BL

  16. Hello @Rolind and welcome to the forum. We are scheduled to pick up our LE2 in April. I too have a Ford Tremor and I asked salesman Josh White that question. He said the ball should be adjusted to approx. 24" from the ground to the top of the ball. I have the WeighSafe 6" adjustable drop hitch and with the ball adjusted to 24", the ball mount is about in the middle of the adjustment range. https://www.weigh-safe.com/product/steel-weigh-safe-drop-hitch/

  17. This is the ball mount and ball I’m using on my F-250. I do not use the Andersen hitch. It is not required or recommended for my F-250 specs. I have used the Andersen hitch on previous tow vehicles that required it, and I’m much happier now having a truck that does not need it. A “3/4 ton” truck like an F-250 is a great match for the Elite II. Specs for my F-250 are 12,600 pounds towing, 1,250 lbs tongue weight, 3,334 lbs. payload rating, so a very nice safety margin with the Elite II. My F-250 isn’t a Tremor edition though so your specs may be different. My F-250 has a 2-1/2” receiver socket. The 3” drop ball mount puts the Oliver nice and level when towing with my truck. Draw-Tite 45322 3" Drop Ball Mount https://a.co/d/1tvHOA8 CURT 40056 Stainless Steel Trailer Hitch Ball, 10,000 lbs, 2-Inch Diameter, 1-1/4 x 2-5/8-Inch Shank https://a.co/d/5zjdsM5

  18. Even though this topic of hitch height has been covered many times before here on the Forum - your best bet is to call or email your Oliver Sales Agent and ask - "how high off the level ground should my hitch ball be?". Ford does not require you to have a WDH with the 250. And, Olivers do not sway. Bill

  19. We took possession of our used Oli almost 2 years ago. We like the original decals that the previous owners put on, although we would like to put a decal on that would be our own. My wife saw a cougar on the back of stick built trailer, she liked it, but it is not original nor is it “us”. Me, well I like the Fighting Oregon ducks. This is neither original, nor is it “us”. Thanks for starting this thread is giving me some ideas.

  20. Still have the original front logo but am planning to remove and replace with the attached. If you are thinking it looks as though it was designed by a Kindergartner, it was. One of the kids who used to ride my school bus drew it and I thought it was apt for "Lottie".

  21. Moral of the story - never take the word or advice of a salesman trying to sell you a truck or RV as to its true capacities or capabilities. Know your equipment. Educate yourself to what you will need in the real world conditions you plan to use the equipment. And most of all, always build in a margin of safety. It's never worth trying to find the breaking point of your equipment.

  23. Not sure who that was directed to but, if it was me, no we do not use the Anderson. I have an F-250 which has built-in sway control. When we had the 30’ Airstream we used a Blue Ox WD/Anti-sway hitch. I liked the way it towed but it was a pain to put on and take off. Once we decided to leave it off and I noticed no difference at all without it. Safe Travels, Brian

  25. And now for something totally different. This is an interesting design but I can only imagine the price! It will likely be made from pure un-obtainium! (A rare material that takes it way out of my reach!) Doubt that it will ever see light of day but, it might. Check out this new concept Airstream. Brian

  28. https://www.bwtrailerhitches.com/product/tow-stow-adjustable-ball-mount Hello - F-250 Platinum (non-Tremor) but I do have the 10,000 pound GVW package. I picked up on 3/8 and was worried my lowest setting was going to be too high but actually had to raise it one notch. See the link above for the hitch I have. I chose the 2.5” shank so that there is no need for an adapter and I also chose the 5” drop with the dual-ball 2” and 2 5/16” inches. I chose the Bulldog 2 5/16” hitch on our Oliver. Tows like a dream (no Anderson) and very happy with the setup. Welcome! Brian

  29. They should, from what I understand, the drawer was made taller so it should be “no factor”. BL

  30. You certainly have a very nice setup. I may be underestimating the amount of gear that I will carry. I did some calculations on my gear and weight and I arrive somewhere around 4650 out of 5000 for the trailer and 910 out of 1390. I am more concerned about safety, control and braking as opposed to pushing the engine or transmission while climbing.

  31. Hi John I honestly appreciate your feedback. Here is more info: I have the AWD V6 8 speed XLE. It has sway control but I don’t think I have TV-AWD. I installed a class 3 hitch and a RedArc proportional brake controller. I also plan to add the Andersen Weight distribution option. Legacy I with all my options Dry Weight: 4150# + 32 galons water 260# + kitchenware 50# + Food/Clothing 100# = 4560# TV Door Sticker capacity on driver door 1390# Tongue 450# + 2 Passengers 300# + gear 160# = 910# I would be at 91% Tow Capacity and 66% Load Capacity. Ideally, I would want to be at less that 80% on both numbers but combined the total weight is 5470# for a total capacity of 6390# putting me at 85%. For the next few years, we plan to camp in the North East within a few hours from home because we still have teenagers at home. Going across the country may not happen before a few years. By then, I should have enough experience towing to decide if I want to replace my Highlander with a more capable vehicle. Meanwhile, safety is my most important concern. I don’t mind if the engine struggles uphill as much as I want to have good control and braking. I also selected the Legacy I because it fits in my garage and since my wife and I am 5’9 and my wife is a petite 5’2, we feel at ease with the lower ceiling and smaller bed. What do you think?

  32. Thank you. We’re about halfway through the new video, so hadn’t get to that section yet. We will finish tomorrow, and probably portions once more before we leave to pick ours up. Hmmm, I wonder if Foy’s drawer inserts will still fit? We have them here waiting to go!

  33. I believe I have solved the CO monitor problem. Based on a suggestion I turned my Oliver completely around so the frig, water heater and furance vents are all on the wind leeward side. No CO monitor alarms since. Regarding wind entering via the frig vent. I would appreciate feedback from all who read this whether this is normal on all other Oliver frigs when windy; please reply. Thank-you.

  35. This has been reported before. Your fridge wasn't running on propane? There's a theory that poor sealing around the fridge allows exhaust fumes from the fridge gas burner to blow into the trailer. (Either way, it seems problematic that wind can enter your cabin via the fridge compartment.)

  36. Welcome to the forum. I am not a F250 Tremor owner so I’ll let those members speak up at their opportunity. I will say that I do not know for sure but we may have one member with a 3/4 ton truck that uses an Andersen WD hitch. Most of the members using an Andersen do so because they are required to by the manufacturer in order to not exceed their tongue weight limitations. It all depends on your Tow Vehicle’s limitations and each vehicle may be different. And if you haven’t heard, there will be an Oliver Travel Trailer Owners rally at Lake Guntersville State Park in Alabama May 17-21. If you are still in the area and have time to visit, please do so. The campground may or may not be full at this time, but nearby State Parks may have availability. Mossey

  38. Well I think you nailed it. I was so caught up in the silhouette that I forgot to even read your story below. It's fun when there's a story and a connection behind a picture. We love our borders. Most people have no idea what they are and have never seen one. Edit: don't know if it will be nose art, but the borders will be featured on Ollie-Haus somewhere.

  39. bbrault, If you have questions about capability and hitch set up, I suggest calling the folks at CanAm RV Centre in London, Ontario Canada. The owner is one of the foremost experts on towing in North America and they are more than willing to answer any questions you may have. They will also be able to provide firsthand experience regarding your vehicle, as they set up a 100+ vehicles every month. I found them to be a great resource. Andrew

  40. So from that 1,390 pound payload limit, subtract the Elite I tongue weight of 400 to 500 pounds, then subtract the weight of 3 adults (500 to 600 pounds), and subtract the weight of the Andersen hitch (~50 lbs.), subtract the weight of Rock Tamer mud flaps if you add those to the hitch (~50 lbs.), then subtract the weight of EVERYTHING ELSE that’s ever been added in or on your tow vehicle (floor mats, mud flaps, cargo liner, tools, etc.) and that gives you the remaining payload number left for your camping gear. It gets used up surprisingly fast when you honestly count the weight of EVERYTHING that wasn’t in or on the vehicle from the factory. We started towing our Elite II with large body-on-frame SUVs (a Ford Expedition EL with HD tow package first, and then a Nissan Armada). On paper, both were fully capable of towing the Elite II (both did require the Andersen WDH), but the reality for camping was not ideal. And the EcoBoost V6 engine in the Expedition felt overworked when towing in the mountains. We carry a lot for extended road/camping trips, and while both those SUVs had plenty of cargo/payload weight rating (around 1,700 lbs.) and towing capacity, the reality was that cargo VOLUME became a bigger issue for long camping trips. We carry two camp chairs, a 9’x12’ outdoor rug, a folding picnic table, a drying rack for clothes, a portable grill, an extra 20 lb. propane tank, tools and emergency roadside gear, two bicycles, an ice filled cooler, portable solar panel, etc. so I was getting close to the payload weight limit and also just ran out of space in those SUVs. We now use a Ford F-250 and no more worries. Towing and camping are much more enjoyable now.

  42. Yes, and the inspection is “on-going”. So far, we have had very few issues and the ones that could not be addressed while we were there will be addressed on the way to the rally in May. The build quality is excellent. We are still dealing with “new boat smell” and venting it out every day. The most significant difference between Oliver and Airstream is in the wiring and plumbing. Regardless of minor wiring issues people find here and there, this wiring is head and shoulders above AS. The plumbing is too. We have the best water pressure we have ever had in any travel trailer. I think it is a combination of a good pump, the accumulator tank and short-run plumbing. Whatever it is, we like it. Oh, one more thing. We always said AS is a two-season camper (spring and fall). The insulation is not that great. The Oliver, on the other hand, was cozy and warm. We are looking forward to an all season camper! Thanks for asking! BL

  43. I think error C will come up in any mode if the batteries drop low enough. Also, with a 3500 watt generator it shouldn’t be necessary to change the inverter setting. Something else is going on.

  44. Yup! And the front tiedowns assisted in the constant flexing of the frame during all those miles in which there was "no problem." Charlie.

  45. And to add to what you stated above, If the owner would have taken his loaded truck including the motorcycle hanging on the back to a scale, he would have discovered his rear axil was grossly overloaded. With that much weight hanging aft the rear axil and the diesel engine in the front end with that extra long frame, it broke the frame at exactly the point that one would expect in those conditions.
