  1. So, we finally got around to doing exactly what Dave's describing here and what other owners have mentioned in different threads. We've experienced the closet "meat locker" syndrome several times during cold weather trips. We stopped opening the closet door in the morning to keep the arctic blast of cold air from entering the main cabin. Started this project by installing the first of 3 return vents in the closet door bulkhead just below the jam: ABOVE: Measured the height above the floor of the furnace outputs (4.25") so this return vent would match. ABOVE: Cut the bulkhead with the trusty 4" hole-saw. ABOVE: Used the thickness of the cut-off to trim back the excess material on the stock Valterra vent ABOVE: Used a bead of clear silicon to secure return vent to gelcoat. Next, installed a second return vent between the closet and under the sink: ABOVE: View from under the sink ABOVE: View from inside the closet. Placed the return vent between the two lower shelves. Finally, installed the 3rd return vent under D's forward dinette seat into the bathroom bulkhead: ABOVE: View from under the forward dinette seat looking into the bath area ABOVE: View of return vent which was placed as low and as Portside as possible. The Casablanca has fairly decent furnace output flow in the bath and we have yet to modify the forced air ducts (on the "to-do" list) as @jd1923 JD has described in other threads. Our thought is that the return vents will allow for air to better circulate between the closet, under the sink, and under the forward dinette. We're hoping that this new air flow should aid in keeping the closet "meat locker syndrome" at bay. We'll see....

  2. At the risk of starting a "climate change" debate, I have often wondered if our modern automotive gasoline engines with all of their pollution controls are actually more polluting than a Honda generator? Yes, the Honda meets CARB specs, but I don't think these little engines are really very "clean". We have a golf cart that we drive around the neighborhood (Kawasaki engine) and I sometimes contemplate driving the car instead - as I believe a warmed up automotive engine is actually "cleaner" than the small air-cooled one. Maybe not on CO2 - but I don't see CO2 as a polluting gas. CO2 levels on earth were higher during the dinosaur days and I doubt the dinosaurs were burning "fossil" fuels.

  3. Yes, definitely sign up for the T-Mobile Beta program! It’s a rapidly growing technology that is the future of cellular service. T-Mobile is actively seeking new subscribers by offering the free Beta plan to get a jump on other major carriers, such as AT&T, who have similar satellite-based plans in the works. So the more people that sign up, the quicker the industry will respond. Currently, the T-Mobil/Starlink Beta plan only offers basic SMS text messaging with very limited bandwidth. . . which would be good for emergencies. No calling or data. This will likely increase as more Satellites are launched, but who knows how long that will be. So still consider a Dishy, I think they are on sale right now. Cheers! Geoff

  4. Same here, Dave -- based on your suggestion. We also put it along the bed rails as we were getting sliced by the unfinished fiberglass edge whilst making the beds. Also put it around the spare tire cover to protect it during a wheel change, FYI.

  5. Ever since @Patriot started this thread, I've had the Starlink Mini on my list, TY. Chris made me aware of a new Starlink Beta working with T-Mobile (gotta love Elon)! I'm not sure I understand it fully, so we just signed up for the beta. We have a T-Mobile business account for our cell phones and Pepwave router. Want to add the Starlink Mini wired to the WAN port on the router, but if this new technology comes to fruition will we need the dish? Looks like Starlink may become a satellite based cell tower for T-Mobile. Motorla was working on this with the Iridium Project in the 90s which never came to be. We went with T-Mobile since recently their 5G network is more capable than the competitors and they actually have 5G in Prescott and nobody else does. Verizon and AT&T could be in trouble when this launches! Check out this link FYI: T-Mobile Starlink Satellite Phone Service: A New Era in Connectivity

  8. When we were thinking about retiring in Arizona the only places we considered were high country. Sierra Vista (5000+’), Payson (5000+’), Prescott (5000+’) and Flagstaff (nosebleed’). Our daughter graduated from Northern AZ University in Flagstaff, it’s easy to get used to the cool summer temperatures there! Plus, there isn’t any humidity anywhere which makes the heat very tolerable. 90 degrees in AZ is 20 degrees cooler than 90 degrees in San Antonio!!

  9. Yep, though it's better to call these water restrictors. They restrict flow vs. regulate pressure. Ron's choice of a true adjustable/gauged pressure regulator is what you want. I've posted this picture before, but to show our hull came with BOTH restrictors and back-flow preventers (check valves) on both incoming water lines. However, the OTT plumbing diagram shows only back-flow preventers. There are likely several configurations out there!

  10. I'll second this - On my tour the frame jig was the very first stop on the tour. While Anita was explaining something, all I could do was "lust" after that frame and the welds. I knew at that moment I was about to shell our some bucks for an Oliver! I figured that if this company did THAT good a job on something that in a finished trailer I would not normally be able to see then the rest of the trailer must be good. Bill

  12. I put this on 6 or 7 years ago and it still looks like new. Check the thickness of your cover to be sure the trim will fit. There are different grip ranges available. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QAJJJ3Y?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share&th=1

  13. Concur, John! Unfortunately, we only bought 3 vents (last spring) -- since then, we've come to the same conclusion you and others have described for addressing the "hot box" in hotter WX conditions. Now that we're on a roll, the 4th return vent will likely find its way into the upper closet door bulkhead sooner than later!

  14. I use your method as a back-up plan for my Honda Generator. Reason is running a 400 horsepower engine, even at idle, to create what a small generator can do just as well..... causes me to pause. But if my solar panels and Honda fail to get the job done, then I will for sure be singing praises for your suggestion!

  15. Does anyone know where to find an event calendar for the 2025 rally? Nancy my Wife and I plan on attending the rally in April and are wondering if anyone would like to join us for a bird walk one or two of the mornings. We attended the rally in Maine back in 2023 and led a couple of beginner bird walks and they were a big hit. We were asked to do it again this year but we are planing to attend the 2025 rally this year. If anyone is interested let me know and maybe we can have the walks listed on the schedule of events, if there is one. The other option is to contact us directly and we can pencil something in. The birds should be in peak spring migration so the birding should be great. God willing we plan to arrive on April 29th and stay through the 2nd of May on site #F56. However there is one glitch. I was summoned to Grand Jury duty for 3 days a week for 3 months starting April 7th. I was told because I am self employed, I can get out of it for financial hardship but I need to appear in court on April 7th and tell it to the judge as they say. Wish me luck Bill

  16. Brag to me about how wonderful that AZ weather is during the middle of summer. Certainly weather is just one of the reasons that our trailers have wheels. Change is good for a number of reasons. Bill

  17. Concur 100%. If boondocking multiple days in overcast WX (sans a GENSET), one can always plug the OTT into the TV and "idle-charge" the battery bank at 30 - 50Amps depending on what type of 12/12 charger is installed. With 740W of solar modules, we have not seen the need to haul the 48# Honda EU2000i much.

  18. Managed to complete the job, as well as running the ford remote camera cable through the channel on the edge of the frame and greasing the zerks on the street side. It warmed up nicely yesterday, until the second part of the article air mass came through in the afternoon :-). Glad I did it though, the front street side shock fell apart in my hand. No piston movement at all. The remaining three all were various degrees of bad - wither compressed with one finger push or limited force. Compared to the new ones you could definitely feel the difference. Road testing Reset 2.0 after putting everything back together showed a distinct reduction in “wallow” on the uneven roads in our neighborhood. Two more projects off the whiteboard…

  19. Yay, wired our Oliver for the DC-DC charger today! (TT side only, wire lengths installed hitch to buses, no connections made yet) An injury and then rebuilding the waste valves took precedence. But after Reading @Ronbrink's comment (thanks Ron) about running the wires around the toilet and not having to remove the vanity shelf, I thought since I have the waste valves removed under the front dinette seat, I should get this done before putting them back in. I pulled the two valves yesterday and then thought, a couple of hose clamps and I could pull it all out and inspect for condition inside and clean the area. Good thing I rinsed the toilet 4 times when we dumped tanks. The 4 AWG wire is now laying across the floor in the picture. It made the wiring soooo easy! I stuck my head down where the waste valves were installed and looking forward I could see the OEM installed cables coming through the hull. I'll see if I can take a picture of it. If they truly sold me 65 ft and I have 28 left, then I used 37 ft for the round-trip in the Oliver (2 x 18.5 ft). I ran it as straight as can be leaving some extra length where the buses are located under rear dinette seat, and outside I made it 5" longer than the trailer cable to be safe. The amount left over is enough for the + run to the starter battery (~20 ft) with 8' left over for rear and front frame grounds, and a 4 AWG straight run from battery to alternator. We're leaving to Catalina State Park and the Coronado NF a week from Monday, so completing the DC-DC charger installation is second to getting the waste valves finished. So glad, I got this wiring run today. I'll be happier when the plumbing is done!

  20. I had taken photos of our original equipment shocks when I last did the zerks, and showed them to Jason at the Texas Rally. He confirmed that I needed to replace those based on the photos. So today - in the one warm day in the foreseeable future - I started the project. Took forever to catch the Bulldog HD shocks available, but I finally got them. Started on the curb side, immediately ran into frozen nuts on the bottom of each shock. Penetrating oil, loosening spray, tapping with a chisel — none of those worked. Finally brought out the trusty angle grinder with a metal cutting blade to make the problem go away. Once the old shocks were out of the way placing the new ones were easy. Tribute to @rideadeuce I had to make sure I installed with the labels faced. Unfortunately, with the delays on the frozen bolts I only finished the first half of the job. So tomorrow I get to see how well I do with the street side in close to freezing temps. I will be envying you folks with Ollie barns …

  21. One of our original purchases was a trash grabber: It works GREAT for pushing our milk crates back into the basement. But when removing the milk crates the vinyl flooring hooks the edge of the milk crate. So I tied a paracord "Yoke" to the base of the crate one one end, and to the door hinge on the other. By pulling the paracord "high", it lifts the milk crate just enough to pass that edge. Also a lot faster. GJ

  22. This would be a very informal bird walk around the camp ground. Nancy and I have owned The bird store and more in MA (www.thebirdstoreandmore.com ) for over 30 years and have been leading bird walk in new england for longer than that. Now that we are semi retired and Dezeree has taken over our business we are starting to travel. But we still like to bird so with that said we will be birding around the country looking for birds we haven’t seen. So If any one is interested look us up and you are welcome to join us before breakfast if you want to tag along to see what we can find. Hope to see you at the rally. Bill and Nancy Cormier

  23. Spent our last two days up Plomosa Road a ways. Maybe next year we can start our own Oliver Rally out here! Quiet and beautiful up here, 14 day BLM, great views and sunset. Richard and Thea came up for an afternoon visit! We hit it off and didn’t stop talking for a couple hours!

  24. I knew I shouldn't have done it, but I decided to go down the rabbit hole of looking up the actual law in the CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) based on the DOT 4BA type tanks I have and found these recertification guidelines. Adds even more confusion, but I'm still having it done at 10 years anyway!

  28. Our Canyon is not a gas burner as it has the Duramax Diesel with the (standard on all GM diesels) exhaust brake and is rated to tow 7700 pounds as well. As I stated, I don't tow our EII with it, never even tried. I learned the financial hard way by going from a Chevrolet Tahoe, to a GMC 1500 gas burner, to a Silverado 2500 Diesel and now to a Silverado 3500 diesel to finally get a vehicle that preforms any task I call on it to do.

  29. A neat video promoting the “tubers” RV inspection business, Olivers Travel Trailers, and a good plug for your bird store business as well. Olivers really do sell themselves for those who have the means to spend the big bucks. I did not see anything in the video that has not been really covered in the many Oliver owner testimonial videos and Oliver University videos which I would watch if I were interested in purchasing an Oliver. We purchased at a what we feel was a really good price point in 2020 even got a nice discount due to an end of the month purchase. At today’s price point, only a short 5 years later, we would not be players on a new brand new Oliver. I have seen plenty of newer used 22,23,24 YM Olivers well optioned sell for much less than the original list price for various personal life reasons. Ouch. The price increase unfortunately does narrow the funnel of buyers to retired empty nesters with hopefully “disposable income” given that the OLE2 only sleeps three. Starting at 70k he was obviously talking about the Elite and not the Legacy Elite II. I have to admit the new price increase allows me to smile about our decision to buy when we did. All this said, we are happy with our 2020 LE2 and are sooooo glad we purchased when we did. Happy & Safe Travels and Happy New Year!

  30. I do think that he missed a very good point by not mentioning the rigidity of the aluminum frame structure. When I took a tour of the factory while there to pick our Elite up; the frame structure on its jig for layout and welding was one of the top selling features for me. It's a beefy piece of aluminum art.

  31. The guy forgot to mention that my truck is a diesel and also has Jake brakes. It tows 7,700.00 pounds compared to a gas Canyon with a 5,500 lb tow capacity. I’ve weighed the truck and trailer several times on cat scales fully loaded and with full water, extra water, bikes and Kayaks and I come in more than 300 lbs under gross for the truck and the trailer weighs in at 5,600 lbs and the tongue weight is right where it should be. It’s almost light on the tongue with the e-bikes on the back but is ok. we’ve towed about 10,000 miles so far and it seems fine. Been through the smokies, Catskills and the white mountains with out a problem. Would a bigger truck be better ? maybe we are at its limit, but still within the manufacturers specifications. But getting 20mpg towing and 24 not towing and the truck fits in my garage is worth something. Plus my truck is my everyday vehicle and pulling the trailer is only about 5% of its use. Sometimes you need to make some calculated decisions to make it work. Bill

  32. I was impressed with his review. His diction was perfect and we all should forgive him for mispronouncing Hohenwald. I'm with @Mike and Carol in that these trailers should not be considered light weight just because they have an aluminum frame but it’s not a heavy trailer either. However, my opinion is the Elite II in a ready to travel state is way too heavy for a Colorado or a Canyon to safely tow. We own a Canyon and think it's a great vehicle, we just don't tow with it.

  33. He gives a pretty fair review. I’m not sure the comments about being a lightweight trailer because of the aluminum frame are real accurate but it’s not a heavy trailer either. Your interior looks great ! Mike

  36. Paul, It may really be worth your time to dive in and get it advertised on Facebook Oliver TT for sale forum or just the FB market place. It’s not very difficult to list an item and you will be actually targeting/advertising to folks actually looking for an Oliver. In the last few years I have seen quite a few Olivers sold rather fast in the marketplace or the Oliver TT for sale FB page. If I were selling that’s where I would advertise. Best of luck, priced right it should move fast.

  38. Ooooh, flashlights! Steph will tell you this is my impulse buy weak spot. Everything from no-name Amazon lights to some nice Streamlight and Olight units with my fire/SAR gear. When I was working, this little Streamlight Microstream was my EDC. The blue one was special because the default power-on setting was Low, while the other colors defaulted to High. Not sure if that's still true, but it was important because I used it to check pupils and didn't want to blind my patients. Don't have an EDC now but I added a Wuben H1 headlamp and a second Infinity X1 (Costco) to my assortment of lights over the holidays. And I still have my very first Maglite from the 1980s, with the LED upgrade kit from the original incandescent.

  42. Seeing the ad the first time was fun because we are used to seeing trucks in ads pulling Airstreams. When the trailer pulled into view we realized it was an Oliver and an Oliver ad not a truck ad. The voice over seemed like a familiar voice also.

  47. Thanks for sharing this info. Very interesting. I recently saw a video from some financial guy who said... If you're going to buy a boat or RV, just think of it as putting the money in a big pile and setting it on fire. And for many RV's I would agree. Nice to see that Oliver owners are not in that category. That being said.... As far as Donna is concerned, we will be making our LE2 (hull #145) a true Legacy and leave it to our son after we are gone. When you add up purchase price, maintenance, upgrades, etc. there is a whole bunch of money we won't be getting back, BUT... Just owning our trailer is a joy. And, now that we are both retired and have a new TV, we'll be looking forward to more trips. Happy Camping Everyone! Scotty

  48. Love it or hate it, I have seen a number of Olivers sold on FB -https://www.facebook.com/groups/OliverforSale Used Oliver’s for sale here will also give you a general idea of what price range you should consider listing your Oliver as equipped. The other positive comment I will add is that I have seen a lot of Oliver owners get answers to questions with in short order on the Oliver FB page fairly quickly I might add. A huge thanks to @John Dorrer, Ruth Meilstrup and the Admin team and FB members, who all try and do a really fantastic job of going above and beyond helping out folks who are seeking knowledge or need immediate help with an issue be it large or small. Seems to me that is really what it’s all about just in a kind and decent way helping each other. The other real gain is the connections and friendships made with other Oliver owners. Win win here! 👍🏻🇺🇸😊 Cheers and Happy Travels! Patriot🇺🇸🇺🇸

  49. I happened to find our Ollie on CraigsList but saw several good leads on RVTrader. I had alerts set up on both sites for several months so I had a good idea of what the typical asking prices were, how quickly they sold and could also see when the prices were reduced. We sold our Minnie Winnie through RVTrader in just 2 weeks, but it's a little pricey, CraigsList is free. There are a lot of on-line scammers out there, just be careful to only deal with someone that you can actually meet in person. Good luck!
